HBOgo was working since day 1 for me. I believe I loaded it from TiBu tho.

Thank you OP!
I have been using the XFinity TV app and it works very well on JB but I will try the HBO apk.

I checked last night again and it's working now. I guess they were just having some startup issues

Does HBO Go display 720p video for anyone here? The video quality looks to be sub-480p.
I've tried HBO Go on my PC, Xbox 360, iPod Touch 4, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, and Nexus 7. Xbox 360 is the only version that displays 720p video.

It looks low quality for me too (first few episodes of Deadwoord).
Does anyone have issues with the n7 not timing out and going to sleep? I've fallen asleep watching HBOGO and woken up several hours later and the screen is still on with no media playing. I think it happened with other apps too. n7 is plugged in at the time.

Tv-Out Quality

Hi there, just got SGS but kinda disoppointed with its Tv out quality. Ok I know its standard tv not the HDMI but the videos I saw on YouTube, the playing movie looked so awesome but on my display (LG 23" LCD TV) 720p videos looks ugly and not evrn full screen ... Can anybody have idea how to play videos in full screen mode on tv?
Overall it's a great phone though

For full screen make sure your video player is in the right mode (I use Zimly which has 3 different display modes). Also your LCD may have different options for keeping aspect ration, etc... look to see if it has an 'auto adjust' option.
I love being able to just carry a small cable and be able to watch on the big screen whenever I'm in a hotel, etc..
Ah i see. I'll try different video players. Thanks

Nexus 7 stutters on MKV with BSPlayer&DicePlayer.

I am on 4.2.1 and tried to play some 720p and 1080p MKV with BSPlayer and DicePlayer which works great on my EvoLte phone. I just got this tablet yesterday and tried playing these videos and get stuttering like crazy. I also have HP touchpad with android and it plays smoothly.
I am doing it wirelessly via the LAN and Samba on these players on both the Nexus 7 and EvoLTE. The nexus can't play smoothly. Is it my wireless signal is better with EvoLte(5ghz band) or is it Tegra 3 can't handle MKV's. I have a Tegra 2 and it can't handle MKV's also.

Try using MX Player.

JB 4.2.2 with MX Player Pro (+ codecs) no problems at all.

Same problem here...playing mkv with mxplayer over smb is stuttering. Gnex is playing fine although .

BSplayer
i have never had any issues with BSplayer stuttering.i use it on my nexus 7 as well as my galaxy tab 2 and have no issues.another good player is Archos Video player.just install the codecs with it.its nice.BSplayer though...best imo.
I recommend XBMC. Go to mirrors.xbmc.org, go to test-build and get the hardware accelerated build (feb 19), it can handle more codecs than MX Player.

I will try XBMC with HW accel. I tried the regular XBMC and it was the worse.
The people who have it working smoothly are you doing it wirelessly? I am thinking that is the problem.
I think SMB might have made it bad because streaming with the N card in the Nexus 7 is slow. I think it's one stream N which is barely above G speeds. My EvoLte and Touchpad which have both 2.4 and 5ghz bands seem to play it smooth.
I tried MXPlayer using ES file explorer to find the file. It was better than BSPlayer and DicePlayer in playing.
I will try to put the file directly onto the memory but I only have 8gb which kind of limits what I can put.
Use ffmpeg plugin for mxplayer/diceplayer/archos if you are not. Also makes sure to use HW on dice and HW+ on MX.

With XBMC hardware accel, both offline and streaming 1080p videos play smoothly. If you are paying the video from a flash drive connected through USB OTG it could be the problem due to the read speed.
You can also try VPlayer, it also have DLNA plug-in.
Archos videoplayer is the best videoplayer by far currently, build in SMB support, automatic covers, subtitles, etc, smooth hardware playback of 720p/1080p mkv on just about any device

Codec plugin for AC3/DTS audio

I use it for all my devices, including Android TV sticks

You'd better transfer you MKV to .mp4 before you put it to your Tegra 3/2. I am using Pavtube Video Converter to do the conversion and I think the effect is very good.It can support to transfer any video format to the suitable format for your devices.Have a try of this and hope it can help you as well.

[Q] Is there a way to cast a DVD movie from PC?

Hey Guys,
I have been reading a lot and noticed that there are hacks to play local files.
This sound old school but do you think there is a way to play/cast a dvd disc from my PC?
Thanks!
Your video would be transcended and look horrible. The hacks that you speak of are not available to the mass yet. Well at least the apps that will not transcode your video. Waiting on Google to approve SDK. Basically if the cool apps that may even stream your DVDs was released now,
... It wouldn't work on your device.

In theory yes, you can stream the PC screen while you are playing a DVD on screen to Chromecast, but its a beta feature and its not as smooth as casting from the chrome browser.
I can say that I have streamed the desktop screen and it works, but can be jumpy depending on what's being displayed. Results will vary depending on your router / LAN/ Wifi / PC speed.
How do you cast your screen? I thought you could only cast you're Chrome browser tabs..?

ChromeCast Build 12940 v1.0.1

This update was just recently released and I just wanted to point out some new improvements that I have noticed. Before this update steaming live media (e.g. twit.tv) from a chrome tab on my laptop to my chromecast device was extremely choppy. Since the new update video and audio is impressively smooth but I still have to use standard 480p. If anyone has noticed anything new about chromecast recently, feel free to post any tips or interesting features you may have discoverd. Thanks
Hmmmm...I need to give this a try. Just a week or so ago when I would try playing a local 720 mp4 in a tab, it would play just fine, but it would lag all to hell..let's see what kinda results I can produce... I'll report back in a little while! Thx!

Where is your build # located? Idk if mine has been updated, but it is working really well on 720p. I pushed the 720 high bit rate it was a little choppy, but still watchable. 720 plays well for me now. This is on twitch.tv

If you install the Chromecast app for Android, it will tell you when you click on the Chromecast's settings.

Beyond 720p resolution

I've been pondering if I should get a Note 3 or Note 4. Playing with the Note 3 at the store I realized the youtube app doesn't support 1080p and I´m assuming Note 4 is the same and no way in heck for 4K(downscaled to QHD) for the Note 4, is that about correct? Is it the same if I go to youtube in the anrdoid browser and not in the youtube app? If so there is pretty much much no easy way to watch full quality new trailers without some hacked youtube apps, correct?
LG G3 seems to be the only one where youtube supports beyond 720
The YouTube app does support 1080p and above regardless of what phone you are using. You just need to select a video that is uploaded in the resolution you want

You won't be getting a lot of 4k streaming content anytime soon. Plus, the amount of space it would take up on your phone would be crazy. You will get the clarity when using apps, some games, etc.

If I´m just streaming it and not storing it, it shouldn't take a lot of space should it. YouTube has quite a few 4K vidoes. But it's more not even being able to see any 1080p videos and trailers that I find absurd.

You can select res in YouTube.
BTW, watching HD1080P stuff on the Note 4 still looks sharp, just watched a bunch of vids I took with my S3 and S4.
Checked a bunch of videos on the note 3 on the YouTube app, none go above 720. Checked them on my laptop and had options of 1080p.
The old YouTube app supported 1080 and 1440(I'm using it just now) however it appears to have been removed in the newer versions of the app. You can uninstall the Youtube updates in the applications page and then install the old app version which supports 1440 (it's on the XDA forums somewhere,I think on the G3 forum). I'm sure Google will sort it out soon as they have the QHD Nexus 6 coming out.
I'm using the latest version am I have 1080p option on both my note 4 and note pro12.2.
Sent from my SM-P900 using XDA Free mobile app
1080p is available in the latest version of YouTube on GS4.
Very odd. Note 3 exynos international is the version.
Can someone maybe please post a link to a YouTube video that you can get in 1080p and I will can see what the phone does?
Go to anything by mkbhd

Some of the latest versions have a lot of the resolutions (including all above 720p) disabled for some strange reason!
You can uninstall and reinstall an old version of the apk if you want to get them back.
