Hey all,
Tried the board search for a possible solution to my prob, to no avail so far:
I am using a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, GP5110, android 4.0.3.
Fully rooted, avast! security installed as firewall, running in whitelist mode - I rather allow those few application I like internet access and have everything else blocked by default, with the ongoing permission-hunger of most app developers I figured to be better safe than sorry.
My problem: Googles` Maps App is running perfectly fine, however when I try to download any offline maps (settings -> make available offline) it just opens a tab called "My Places", showing my map indicating 0.0MB/0.0MB, download never starts.
I tried whitelisting a number of different system processes - such as was necessary to get the youtube app running - but was not successful identifying the correct ones.
Anybody out there who could help?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Chris
Can you not turn the firewall off , download the maps you want then turn it back on ? I have managed to download offline maps but avast firewall was not on ..... just a thought.
Would probably work, but I'm rather looking for a permanent solution than a workaround... Thanks for your suggestion though!
Go to settings -> Clear all offline maps
Then open Google Play, uninstall Google Maps, then update Google Maps, Restart Device,
Now it works on mine. There should be a notification section called "Downloaded Maps" which tells you the progress, as well as inside Google maps.

I had to use my company iPhone today because I can't seem to get ANY navigation program for my Samsung Galaxy Camera to work.
- Native Google Maps/Navigation says there is no network connection even though I can go in Chrome on the device and connect and find things (but no step-by-step) using maps.google.com and Gmail and other network programs from Google and others work fine. Since the Galaxy Camera supports a SIM card but I never use it (I carry a WiFi dongle/MiFi) I'm wondering if it is trying to get on AT&T even though the WiFi is active?
- Tried CoPilot GPS, and it insisted on first installing their offline maps that are 13 Gigs. Wouldn't let me set it up to use my SD card, and wouldn't let me use without installing maps first
- Tried MapFactor Navigation and the free version won't let you enter a street address. You can give country, then state, then street, but unless you can find a cross street it knows about, you get directions that are "in the area". Paid version supposedly supports the usual address search, but who wants to pay to find out if it really does?
Anything that I can do to get Google Maps to work right or some other program that will work if I always have WiFi?
After a couple hours of Google Fu, I discovered the issue was with the latest version of the Maps application. When Google removed Latitude it also messes with the setting for whether to report location or not, and gets confused.
To fix this you have to go into Application Manager, go to Maps, choose "Uninstall Updates". Then go to the Play Store and choose to update. When it finishes the update and you see the button in the store change to "Open" make SURE to open the application from there. That will then give you the chance to accept the new terms of service, and to select the proper location reporting setting.
After that it works properly. Supposedly several folks with other Galaxy products and the latest Nexus products encountered the same issue.
Try to use navigation from watch, sits at calculating route, then i get a "check phone to continue". Nothing is brought up on phone. I have reset watch, reinstalled google maps, checked all my location settings, nothing that i have done has fixed this issue. Any ideas?
Navigation not working
Yes, I am experiencing the same thing. Anyone have a fix?
I have also read that people are having same issue with the moto 360. Thats a good thing its not hardware related.
It Works..
I managed to get it to work.. On your Phone go to Apps Manager.. Look for Google Maps.. Uninstall Updates.. This feature doesnt seem to be working with Maps 9.xx.. It has to be Maps 8.xx... then run Google Maps on your phone once.. Make sure you navigate at least once as there are some pop up notifications on the phone the first time you navigate with maps.. The watch does not know what to do handle pop up.. Once you have navigated at least once try launching it from your watch.. Let me know if this works for you.
Talking with android wear support, i will post back with any news
amresh89, that did work. I passed that info onto wear support.
Downgraded to Maps 8, created a route / directions and then closed Maps. Tried on watch and it tries to route and the closes.
UPDATE : Restarted phone and it then worked.

Yes this is a known issue with google maps 9.4. which doesn't seem to be updated in many regions. Fix is to uninstall updates, download google maps 9.5.1 from this link: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/maps/maps-9-5-1-android-apk-download/. Always healthy to restart your phone and smartwatch then resync the apps. This should resolve the issue.
Hope it helps.
Update Maps, works now. 9.5.x
Hello and good morning,
as i have big issues with push notifications (gmail, whatsapp and some other apps),
could you please tell me, the version number installed in your device?
(settings - application manager - all - google play-services)
after long testing, i found at that this issue is being caused by this service,
google search will find a huge thread "Gmail app is not syncing automatically on my phone"
a silent update of google play services installed 8.3.01 (2385995-034) at my device.
shortly after that, push notifications suddenly stopped.
thank you

Have you checked your apps ops settings? Keep awake must be enabled now I think... I just fixed OMNI ROM driven S3 mini of my friend and he still kept the latest official services.
Otherwise, DL Google store 8.4.20 and Google play services 8.1.15 (2250156-034), go in to airplane mode, uninstall updates for these two, substitute your original Store and Services with indicated above in the priv system folders, do the game with terminal chattr +1 on the store, disable update service on the store, reboot, enable the net and voila. Naturally, do all the backups before all of that and you should be good for all times (my One+1 is not updating the store nor services anymore doing these steps). NOTE: I b0rking something, revert to prev. backups or previous backups and thinker it again.
My wife's S3 Mini has no problem , cause of her setup (no apps ops in between and no services disabled).

I think many people have experienced the problem with GoogleMaps Navigation not working. Either there is no GPS lock, or the GMaps doe not continuously update the position. It eill update every minut or so, or just look like it has frozen:
For me this is what worked: You need to disable GoogleLocationManagerService. Google Location manager is flaky.
1. Download app "DisableService" by WangQi. Get only this one since it works for me.
2, NEEDS ROOT to work.
3. Run app....go to "System" tab.
4. Find "GooglePlayServices"
5. Click on it to open it.
6. Find "GoogleLocationManagerService." and UNCHECK it. This disables it and it will become red.
7. Reboot !!
IF IT WORKS PLEAE HIT THE THANKS BUTTON !!!!!!
Google Maps works like a charm for me, without any patch or workaround with 6.01.
Are you sure that you have installed the right version of google play services?
Hi there,
I have the unlocked European S10 with the latest firmware and app updates. No root and no google account installed.
I have the following issue.
I normally keep location off.
So when I fire google maps it asks to enable location which fine but it never finds a location. If I use anothe app e.g. mapsme the location is found instantly. When I go back and kill and start google maps again the location is found. Some other apps never find any location.
I have removed cache of all apps from bootloader and cleared app data from Google maps and Google play services but issue is still there. I tried also safe mode but no luck.
Any ideas what is going wrong? Factory reset is not really an option..
EDIT: Correct gif uploaded
have you tapped the circle with the question mark?
