hello all,
i have recently bought a nexus one and wondering wht i should flash? I like sense but they appearantly are all very slow. I hate miui. I like cm7 but hate its ui. What should i flash?
Sense !
I'm using the lastest sebastiaan's ROM , witha class 10 and it's perfect, the A2SD is AWESOME , no lag in game
If you have a class 10 , install now the seb's ROM , but the dowloading is very long (50 min )
Thanks
PS : you must install 4ext recovery , to use the touch installer !!!!
Depends what you like/use your phone for? I wanted ICS so I went with TexasICS, looks very nice but still has some bugs.
You should wait for stable ICS

Do apps like whatsapp, angry birds (ftw!) facebook etc. stilll work on ics? I use them very often. Also is ics its gui more user friendly then gingerbread?

Same here, I hate cm7's ADW stuff they use. Stock gingerbread UI is much better compared to ADW.
You can go with BuglessBeast which is mostly stock gingerbread with few additions like over clocking support.
If you want to stay bleeding edge then install MeDroid or TexasIce ICS ROMs. They both have camera and gallery issues, missing hardware acceleration and calendar sync issue.

In my opinion the GUI is nicer in ICS, but it is not yet stable enough for full time use. I haven't tried games like Angry Birds yet, but I suspect they wouldn't run well, because graphics aren't properly fixed in the port yet.
First of all ROM basically is ur choice how u wanna use ur phone.
As u said that u already used miui, y bothering trying any other ROM? It's fast stable and good looking ...
On the other hand sense ROM is also good but u always have the processing issues unless u have a high class SD card.
Bugles beast is a nice suggestion for u to use gingerbread UI with smooth and minimal usage...
PS: since I've started using miui I've not thought about any other ROM

I've practically tried all the ROMs on here, from MIUI to Sense and I've got a few things to say.
MIUI looks like iOS in many ways, but is VERY themable. There are themes for almost anything.
CM7 (mainly samuaz's build) is a very fast and stable ROM. It basically displays the stock android experience with a minimal UI. Highly themable.
Sense: HTC's firmware now ported to the Nexus One. Features a stunning and hefty UI that takes a lot of resources. I've tried all builds here, but mainly Runny AIO and I have to say that's the best build. I love Sense. It is not really recommended to run Sense if you have a class 2 SD card like I do, but I'll upgrade it for a class 6 one tomorrow.
Ice Cream Sandwich/Cyanogenmod 9. Very hyped, but with all rights to it. ICS and/or CM9 are totally awesome ROMs and well worth trying out, despite their flaws. Even with no real hardware acceleration, they're awesome. Use texasice's version if you want near-stock ICS experience with a pinch of evervolv tweaks and use samuaz's build if you want a Cyanogenmod 9 experience. Sometime this year, we'll get an official CM9 build from the Cyanogenmod team, but texasice and samuaz have done an amazing job with porting ICS to us.
Other AOSP builds. These builds also kind of displays the stock android experience, but with user added features and frameworks. Some are based partly on Cyanogenmod 7 while others are based on something else. Bugless Beast and OxygeN1mod are among the best in this category.
You're free to choose what ROM suits you best, but my vote goes to Runny AIO or any of the two ICS builds.
Cheers.

It doesn't unfortunately. I haven't tried to install DT's A2SD on it because as far as I know the kernel used in Bugless doesn't have ext4 support. I might be wrong though ..

Alternative to Enoms Rom
I am still running Enoms Rom on my N1. This is the most stable and battery effecient Rom I have tried. The problem is that its quite old (Froyo). I was thinking of going to ICS but the stability just isnt there yet. I am thinking of going to Gingerbread instead. Can someone here recommend a good Gingerbread Rom similar to Enoms? I am mainly looking for 720p HTC camera, trackball wake and led notification. Stability and battery life are important as well.

Me either, and i can't see that ever changing. It really is the best of all worlds. It's unbelievably smooth, stable and pretty as hell. Core apps are vast improvements over that which are found in other ROMs.

Without fail daxinfinity's codenameandroid port;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485734
It's at the level where the CM9 alpha should be - great performance (especially with glitch kernel), best battery life of the ICS roms, and the most customization.
Do yourself a favour as well, install the apex launcher - looks and performance of the stock ICS launcher, but cyanogen levels of customization.
I tried cm9 and onecosmic
And now i got AKOP port 2.02
There is no lags , FC , not stuck , A lot of customizion
And it is the best for me

AOKP 2.02beta with Semaphore 0.8.1 is extremelly fast, reliable, stable! highly recommend.
ive just installed daxinfinitys got to say pretty good no problems so far love all the extra tweaks you can do.
Teamhacksung is the best. In my experience, this is the most stable ICS build (currently on build 16). I have messed about with AOSP and AOSK and some of the other versions and at first they seem better but often they seem to have a fault - lockscreen freezes or problems with my external sd card and transferring large files with my laptop. I have found the semaphore kernerl (latest version) really good when setting on battery saver mode. You can also change the boot animation with ROM toolbox - good stuff there!

Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22478522
And here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21367873
is a bad habit.
I am aware of badly implemented search function of xda, but still?
Best practice = read more, try self.
Pattern of phone usage will always be different.
Bro, hello there, I have 2 SGS, one is running CM9 with original kernel, and another one is with TEAMICSSGS RC4.2+Devil kernel 14.2LED, no doubt, TeamICSSGS is my choice, it is fast, reliable, and most major function are working, around 95% of the function are working perfectly, especially the camera video effect, which makes my day..Try it, trust me..=D..have a nice day
Teamhacksung will pwn all the others and still does.
All those 'wow I have a new ROM' which is totally PAWITP's with a bit of my
own (kuch % battery and don't know what other kinda stupid stuff) are so
not comparable.
They call it SLIM ICS because they deleted some apps, wow it has such a
better battery and lightningfast, yeah well every dork can do that (but
they still call it a new ROM mhowhehaha). It's all in between the ears.
Still think there a 2 main ICS ROMS:
- OneCosmic
- TeamHacksung
And TeamHacksung, here flashed on my i9000, is still the best from build #1.
Stable, stock or on Glitch, so no need to flash all the 20 other useless things.
I don't even flash my phone now every week and my phone is kinda stable,
the accu's getting used to the build and with everything on I have a good
phone.
I use AOKP and I am very satisfied.
It has only very minor bugs and is perfectly suitable for everyday use.
I haven't used Teamhacksung as I had the "hello hello" bug in CM7 which others are reporting in Teamhacksungs CM9.
Currently using Team ICSSGS 4.2 with semaphore 0.8.1. Been using this combo for almost two weeks & battery life is awesome with great performance and for what I use my phone for it is super stable, virtually lag free and with no noticeable issues.
While I do miss all the customisations of the CM Roms the "hello hello" bug is a deal breaker for me. There is apparently a solution to actually fixing the bug but this also appears to work for some people but not all. (You can download hbb2_test.zip - http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=4681 if you have these issues)
I agree with inozako TEAMICSSGS RC4.2+Devil kernel 14.2LED, is the best solution....try it
Testing almost all, cm9, CNA ('s), AOKP ('s), MIUIv4 and finally AOKP 2.0.2 is the best, the most stable, the easiest to customize & very good battery.
in my signature no doubt
I haven't tried Teamhacksung's since i have i9000b and it doesnt support it but i did try ICSSGS and i tell you i cant think on a better rom. You should give it a try, since its avalible for i9000, i9000b captivate and vibrant

i have a galaxy s 9000.
i would like to install a new stable and fast version of ics.
i had installed ones but it's very slowly.
could you tell me a compatible version for my phone?
Try CNA 1.4.0 or AOKP 2.0.2 beta 23.
Both are very stable and have a good battery life. I use AOKP at the moment and am very happy with it. It has even a power save mode that can go into no-data or 2g-only mode when the screen is off (plus many other features like auto-sync schedule).
I'm using AOKP 2.02 beta 23 too and am very satisfied. Stable, smooth, lot of options,... And "BHuvan goyal" actualizes it constantly. One of the bests if not the best...

*sigh* what ROMS did you try? Why do you want to use ICS? What was "slow"? If you want a really really stable ROM, you should consider an official (gingerbread) one.
Otherwise: it depends on your needs and your usage (wifi, data, browsing, music, video, taking photos and / or videos, with what resolution, etc.). Try a few to see what fits best to you - my initial approach would be teamhacksung and ICSSGS.
AOKP ICS Rom 2.02
AOKP ICS Rom 2.02 Beta build 23 is great, I am running it at the moment and it is totally stable. I actually prefer the ICS Kernel from Devil, it has some more functions.

AOKP is also something else besides "great" and "totally stable":

AOKP
I have been using AOKP beta 2.02 for the last week and I love it!
It's really great! No FCs, good batterylife, no RIL issue. For now this seems to be a good ICS ROM available.
As far as i tried, i find ICSSGS (onecosmic) more stable than a stock one. It works faster, it doesnt freezes, battery life is good, and it's beautiful. And its AOSP.
I believe this is what you're looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510940
Android 4.0.4 (Port)
ics
I tried ICSSGS 4.1 & 4.2 and it was nice but a little lagging in my opinion. I am now on AOKP 2.0.2 beta 23 and loving it. It's not just the usual ICS but also with a "cusom rom" on top of it. You should try it.
Slim ICS 2.6
I've been using Slim ICS 2.6 for a couple of days now and everything is working great! It is a light and VERY fast ROM.
For me it has a couple of issues but nothing serious, the facebook contacts sync problem (solved it with HaxSync from the market) and the compass isn't working in Google Maps.
But despite these 2 issues I can honestly say I haven't been happier with my phone since I bought it.

Hi,
I've been using the Team ICSSGS' ICS 4.0.3 RC 4.2 since last few days.
I think this ROM is now as good as a stable ROM
The only issue that has been bugging me is connecting to a 802.1x secured wifi network
Otherwise, it has an awesome interface, everything works... and can be used as a day-to-day ROM now.
i tried almost all ics rom , and i believe the best stable ics rom are CodeNameAndroid 1.3.3 and 1.40 , no lag , no FC , just perfect , work all perfect
After trying CM9, i am running AOKP 2.02 for five days now and it's really a good rom. Only one crash of music apps. Batterylife is better than a stock rom. Lots of options. I love it.
I've been running CodeNameAndroid 1.40 for couple of days now and it works great.
However, it seems Dax might be changing project from that to something else, so I might try something else soon.
I'm a satisfied user of ICSSGS RC4.2 (stock kernel) and this rom i'd like to recommend to You. Of course, it has some issues (a few, really) - like any other ICS port - but it is 100% stable and i use it since it has appeared on xda for download. To be sure and to avoid more problems i suggest to stick with native kernel, which is very good by the way
Wow!! So many people using AOKP. really overwhelmed!! Thank you all.

No wi-fi related problems here (speaking about RC4.2) but there is always something to be fixed - mostly minor issues.. but sometimes annoying. For example, i've experienced once when receiving a call i couldn't use my lockscreen because it freezed for a few seconds - it happened just once and i missed a call then :/ But what can i say - we all have to remember that all of these ICS ports are just beta's or RCs so let's hope there will be fully working ICS rom with no issues at all soon 4.0.4 version has appeared after all so i believe it will fix some of our troubles too
AOKP !
I'm using AOKP too
Stable, fast, no FC (I'm using it for a week) and a good battery life.
Dear all users, I'm new to this device but not new for android. I'm seeking your advice what step should be taking on my phone in order to have an ICS look & fell, even not a rom but something semilar. Do you think shall I need to flash any custom roms? If so what is the popular one in the galaxy note development forum? My phone detail should read as follow attachments.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
If you consider that ICS is announced to be released in March I would suggest to wait until the official ICS ROM is released. If you are eager to try ICS there are several CustomROMs based on leaked ICS Firmware - see Android Dev Section
On the other hand there is the possibility to use themes that give you more or less an impression how ICS would look like - for example ICE CREAM SANDWICH DOMINATION. For more details on themes check the Themes & Apps section.
Hope you find something you like...
Hope your loving the note
Hi there,
I think that alot is down to personal preferences. Personally I am not a fan of ICS themes on Gingerbread.
The best ROM for 100% ICS experience IMO is imilka's ASOP. Pure ICS. I love it but it's too buggy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516515
I think it worth a play to see what ICS is like.
I have retraced back to this setup, Stable ICS ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1509703
It's Touch Wiz themed but you can just install the Nova Launcher from market to give you a ICS home screen which is a enhanced version of the ICS stock launcher. Most importantly it's bug free.
Also check out this Battery Saver profile using the tasker app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031743
A nice little gem you will appreciate once you realise u can't put the damm thing down
i think you can achieve a faux ICS look by downloading some alternate launchers in the market (like go launcher pro), and download the appropriate ICS theme.
i mean, you don't have to necessarily "flash" a custom rom to achieve the same look.
IMO.
now if you want ICS feel, the best option is flashing a custom rom. There are plenty of custom roms here, so feel free to try (just follow the instructions carefully).
Personally i recommend criskelo rom, but i'm currently on midnote v2.0, using ICS rom.
Thank all u guys here for ur good advices.

Hello guys,
so far I've been using Rocket Rom (v8 i think) - Gingerbread, Paranoid Android 0.5 ICS, Criskelo's and finally Chrack's Rom on my Note.
I'm still using Chrack's v12 so its time to upgrade.
I wanna keep the S-Note stuff for now, so I want to choose a TW based rom, but I just can't decide which. The differences (at least if you compare the feature lists) of most roms are very narrow.
I'm undecided between Kingdroid V8, Rocket Rom v11 and Chrack's Final (v18).
What do you guys use and what you like or dislike about your roms?
AND while we are already at it: Is there any ICS rom out there which has the statusbar acting as Brightness toggle like it used to be in Gingerbread? I used that feature all the time, but on ICS roms it doesnt seem to exist, or am I wrong?
Question #2: What are the "downsides" of CM10? No MHL and no snote apps right? Anything else?
--
Not trying to get people to praise one rom and bash the others or smth, just looking for some opinions and pro's n contras of all the roms since I don't have the time to test them all out myself. (I mean fully testing, not just flashing and having a quick look)

Hi there, only a personal opinion but I have tried all / most of the ROMS on the Galaxy Note ROM DB and find Chrack to be the best for my personal usage (Music, Browser, Flash video, email, text, A2DP). I have replaced the Snote etc with Papyrus and GNote (I think they are smoother and much less bloated).
The CM10 / AOKP ROMs take up far less memory but A2DP issues, no flash video and problematic SMS make it a no go for me.
Only my opinion though.
Hope this helps. Please hit Thanks if it did.
