Please provide instructions for rooting

I need complete instructions or how to root my g1. I follow the instructions on on xda but cant seem to get it right. I also need instructions on how to upgrade back to cupcake just incase i still can get it. My phone is now on RC29. thanks

Are you serious. There are instructions everywhere on here.

Just try to search before asking!
You should look around before you ask any questions everything you need will most likely be in these forums

Then at the end you can make a guide on how to un brick your phone for everybody that thinks they can unbrick it.

I wonder if the gods...err..I mean mods of xda will let me post a spoof guide and allow it to stay up, or would they ban me, I better start thinking of some new names, how bout reverend gridlock, hey I like that, can we change our names

LOL, I would hope they wouldn't ban you. You could just say your passing along info that you read. And yessir rev I like that. And I doubt we could change our name and keep our stats. But maybe we need a new section, the BS corner.

Ok well since you guys won't help him I will.
The quickest way to root your G1: First you need a car battery and some jumper cables. Take your USB cable and splice into it, wire it to the positive jumper cable, now ground the other end onto a metal surface. Next thing is to press the power+camera+home+menu+back buttons as fast as you can, while doing so start humming the theme to MASH and have a friend tickle the battery cover of your G1. Do that for a good 17 minutes. Now unhook everything and rub one out, then wipe the ejaculate onto your screen and try making a smiley face. Last step, and most important......kill a cat while your power the phone on, not a kitten though and preferably a black cat as they work the best.
If you did it all right you will now have superhuman capabilities and your mother will cry when she sleeps at night.

Wow, that exactly how I rooted mine but I failed the first time cause I used a kitten, maybe you should write the guide codani, you might make a better one than me, don't forget to reserve the first 3 posts for the future

i used a small child to root my phone does that mean i will lose my root when i flash a rom
and now some advice for the OP. do NOT root your phone. you have no clue what you are doing and i do not want to see a thread 2 days from now that says "help i think i bricked my phone" with your name under it. honestly...

Any one know how root on 2.2 instead of downgrading and all this cmd and gold card crap

@huzi7868: Why the hell do you need root for? Where did you heard this word? What does it mean to you?
HTC prepared the phone that is secured against ppl like yourself so they can't break it accidentally. Believe me it is better this way. You just stick to FB and games and you'll be just fine.

Why not just do the goldcard trick and root it? Or even read the thread and use TempRoot!
If i can root my legend and flash blay0s rom with NO POWER OR VOLUME BUTTONS im sure you can do it with all the hardware buttons working.

the post directly below the screen shot on their facebook says htc one jtag and communicating. That's not hacking.

If I remember right, I used them to repair a bricked HD2. It required being taken apart and the ROM flashed directly to the board. I think that was 40 bucks.
When I got it back the volume down stopped working. They claimed it was messed up when I sent it, which is partly true but it still functioned. When I got it back it didn't at all. They stopped responding to my questions and requests.
They got it working again but were a bit rude.. won't be using them again.

While s-off might not be "necessary" right now it is always a good thing to have. There's always a chance htc won't allow proper flashing of the boot.img in future hboot updates.

Ok, i see charging someone to take a bricked phone and directly re-flashing it. One would think it would be a better business move for them to share what they did, that way it could possibly cause more bricked device so they could possibly make more money on unbricking. LOL

I don't understand why people are so heated about this, they're independent people who get to make their own choices. Android and open source in general have great traditions of devs doing their work for free, but that hardly means that every dev owes it to the community to work pro bono.
If you haven't donated to a dev on your own, you really shouldn't be offended about this.

If you want to understand why people are mad, you need to understand the culture a little better. Go read the GPL (and maybe other related open source licences). I'm not saying that it applies to this; just that open source is no where near as open as most people believe it to be.

Not necessarily, you don't make money if people aren't willing to pay. I can only assume that most people on forums like this are less likely to send there phone out to be s-offed,and just wait until one of these amazing devs posts a tutorial(once accomplished). If you mean they would make more money if they don't, by they are hoping people will brick there devices trying, then yes i agree then they would make a lot of money off of that. I do believe Share is Caring...unless its a completely original idea then charge.

That is the problem. You want to do things that you don't fully understand. Anytime you try to flash something there is a chance it will brick a device, no matter how many others haven't had that problem.
Read up on it and if you feel comfortable then do it.

and read the entire thread for your own sake. Open the app then click install CWM. If it was successful then you should have a custom recovery.

How about this... since you seem to be unable to read and search and learn for yourself, just box up your phone, send it to someone like Gotroot, Koush, or any of the other devs and ask them to do it for you...
OR.... you could bop over to the development section and freaking READ FOR YOURSELF and find out what is available.....

Like the title states, would like to hire someone to convert an unlocked m7, new in box to gpe. I'm coming from a nexus 4, which I was able to tinker with myself. However I'm not confident in attempting on this phone. I'm located in dutchess county NY, would rather do local. But I would ship to a reputable member if necessary. Would you be happier if someone here just guided you through it step by step? There are some awesome devs here who I'm sure would be happy to try and help and Gove you steps along the way. Also, there are some very well written guides on here that you can follow, asking questions here along the way and get some info if you are stuck
So if you would be happy doing it that way, we can guide you through it here!
Make sure you have a working laptop and a good USB cable, using 2.0 ports and preferably Windows 7, with working/up to date drivers and adb files

Well 2 problems. I've read the tutorials, watched the videos, and am still not confident lol. The main concern is getting s-off. The other issue is I only have a macbook working at the moment. That's why I figured I'd give in and have someone do it for me. Its not worth risking IMO, I'd rather pay someone with the expertise to do it.
I genuinely appreciate the offer however! I just don't have the confidence. Sometimes things just seem beyond skill level, and you have to swallow your pride lol

I have no problem guiding you over the phone or skype! It is a piece of cake ! If you read the tutorial and just scared to brick your phone, i dont think itll happen! Done it to 5 HTCs!

It is very doable. The tutorials always seem scary but it is very doable!

Well I'll have it Friday I suppose I could give it a shot thanks for the help! I guess I'll post back when I get it and see if/when you're free!

It's prob easier on a mac than a PC, both Android and OSX are based on linux unlike Windows.
