It depends on the rom. Different roms have different kernel compatibilities. Read the 1st post of the rom thread so you'd know which kernel works on a specific rom.

The safest would be flashing the latest kernel as MiniCm updates goes on along with latest kernel release.

If it tells latest naa...its obvious...use latest version
If it tells naa-xx use the version with the same number
If it just tells naa, then try the latest
If it tells the latest and the thread is very old,try the latest but if you have bootloop try older versions..

it depends on the rom some roms still only support older versions of naa kernel....

This is not true.. For example, the only rom that actually benefits using nAa14 is Actojan's SEMC rom..
nAa14 is exactly the same as nAa13 except for DRM changes..

alfs kernel
thanks to all...i didnt find alfs kernel for joyOS....can any one send me direct link of that??? (direct link)

[Q] best kernel for gingercruzt ?

hi i'm using gingercruzt 8.4 its an awesome rom
i just wonder if any of the kernels floating around is compatible with this rom
thanks in advance
You will have to try some kernels like alfs or linuxDX, NAa kernel. The linuxDX and alfs are made for the gingerDX ROM but may work ok on gingercruzt
Hope you got some insight

Kernel help

Hello. I want to ask is it safe to flash kernel after using the Tom for a few days? Like changing kernel instead of changing it when the rom is flashed? And is squadzone latest cyanmobile kernel the best?
Sent from my GT-S5570 using xda premium
here in galaxy mini a universal kernel had not been built
but almost every cm rom's kernel is compatible with another cm rom but not with miui or other
#1 Post : Yes
Even stock-roms need to have same base (XWKTN must same to get same kernel, etc)

[Q] Couple of boot loader unlocking doubts...

Helloo Everybody..
I will be really grateful if someone found a solution to my problem...
I know that this is not a support site, but a developers world, but after searching and googling, i couldnt help my self.
Mods can close and delete this thread if they want.
My question is that if I flash a Gingerbread kernel(nAa or Alfs) on ECLAIR 2.1...wont it create problems..such as force closing or rebooting sort of problems??
Secondly I read SpydeX thread of unlocking bootloader..i got all the tools ready, but the thread doesnt mentions anything about entering into recovery via kernel on ECLAIR 2.1... the guide just tells that after flashing entr into recovery and flash the rom.
I tried this trick on my friends X8, but no success..
Thanxx in advance
If you flash a custom kernel at the eclair while you have locked bootloader, you will have bootloop(it wont boot, but you can easily fix it),if you have unlocked your bootloader it will be fine
As for your second question, you unlock your bootloader, you flash the kernel(which contain cwm),you enter recovery(cwm),and you flash the rom.

No he's got it wrong.
1. You can't flash custom kernels on a locked rom flashtool won't allow it.
2. Flashing a custom kernel on stock 2.1 will cause it to bootloop, what you'd normally do is enter recovery and flash a rom that works with the kernel.

No,users have reported that custom kernels work with stock rom(I remember very clear a user who used naa kernel with stock rom)
Maybe older versions...
If I'm wrong then I apologize

[Q] Which better version on GingerDX?

So today i'm trying to download GingerDX it seems too most famous ROM on xperia x8 ever. I just wanna know which version is better with less bug V31 or down.
I am using V31b for STOCK KERNEL and I haven't find any bugs so far
If you have your bootloader unlocked install v31b for custom kernel
Try GingerDX V31b with nAa-kernel.The latest the better ;D
