Wanted to install this, but Play Store says it's incompatible with my phone. Does it only work with NFC phones?

Google Nexus 7 disabled (shipping never received)

Anybody knows what happens to your Nexus 7 after you reported lost/stolen? What does Google disables? How long does it take for Google to send you a new one?
Called Google and they say the 2 level department that handles losses usually takes 3-4 days for them to reply to you after you reply with "I CONSENT" which authorizes Google to disable your previous device. I am on day 4 so far nothing...
What exactly are they going to disable if I never received it?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
I don't think they can technically disable it. They probably just use the information for warranty purposes in case the tablet is ever RMA'd and so your not held responsible for any unauthorized play store purchases. Now I could be wrong but this is most likely the case.

Thanks for some of the info but still then why do they state on the email it will be disabled? Any other thoughts?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
I would think they remove any association with your Google account on the servers and might ban the device from being attached to your Google email/account.
It takes them a couple of days to contact the shipping company and do an investigation. They need to see if there was any signature, where the driver left the package, etc.
If they find your claim is on the up and up, I'm sure you will be sent a replacement shipment shortly.
Good luck.

Good question. Unless Google sends some sort of signal to the device once it connects to the internet that locks down the device, its hard to see how they could disable it.

Why did you create 2 threads after I moved your other one to the correct forum?

Does amazon instant videos work with root.

Well can you still watch instant videos with the new root method?

Really? Has no one testes this out yet?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
i'd really like to know the answer to this before I go out and pick one up. Thanks for your help.
Just launched a movie from my Amazon library and works fine. Also tested a few trailors, and they work fine also. I have done:
1) Rooted
2) Installed Google Play
3) Removed my ads (unofficially)
Good to know. I don't have prime so I couldn't test out the "free" videos. I was waiting for my mini hdmi cable to arrive before I tested the premium videos with my $5 credit.
Cool thanks

Play store update

Any idea when the new play w store might be headed our way? I heard Google officially launched the update yesterday.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
I downloaded the APK from Phandroid. It installed without any issues. You can do that or wait until it gets pushed to your device. I haven't heard about an ETA.

It's supposed to be pushed to all Froyo and above devices over the next two weeks.

Google Wallet NFC?

Has anyone successfully used their HTC One to pay for their purchase?
How does it work?
I tried to do it at different locations with a wireless card reader thing but it doesn't work for me... People just look at me funny when I try to pay using my phone lol

Step 1: install Google wallet
Step 2: set up a credit card in Google wallet
Step 3: go to a store that accepts nfc payments
Step 4: launch Google wallet
Step 5: match up nfc antennas with the terminal

Exactly what finalhit said except you don't need to open wallet first. As long as the screen is unlocked, you can place the phone on the nfc spot of the checkout register.
You need to make sure you have nfc enabled in your phone settings though.

By accepts nfc you mean those wireless terminal things hooked up on the pin pad right?

You should see a Google wallet logo on the pin pad if it accepts google wallet payments. The only place I've been to that uses google wallet is walgreens. I know other places accept it but haven't been to one yet.

Its faster to just unlock it before you tap it (While the cashier is scanning). The last thing you want to do is hold up the line

Actually just look for the "NFC" or "PayPass" logo, it will also work. Keep in mind that some places may not have it enabled or the antenna may be broken. I have used it at McDonalds, CVS, BP Gas Stations and 7Eleven Gas Stations without issue. Walgreens is installing them but they dont seem to be active yet
My corner walgreens has it working. I didn't know it would work with any nfc terminal. Thanks.

The guy at 7 Eleven looked at me and asked me what the hell i was doing. I told him that I wanted to pay using NFC and he stated that it was just for show and it doesn't work.
Ahaha.

I tried to use it at CVS one time and the lady was like "Uhhhhhhhh we dont accept phones"...... She thought I was the biggest idiot hahahaha
Lol I gave my phone to my friend to buy himself something at McDonalds and he was asking the cashier if he could pay with the phone and they were both confused, luckily the cashier that I paid with helped them out

I've only ever used it at 7-Eleven (with a Nexus 7 no less) but it is slick as hell, not gonna lie. The cashier looked at me like I was from another planet, but it worked perfectly and it was pretty awesome haha. It's actually really convenient too, as long as you have NFC enabled you don't have to launch anything, just hover the phone/tablet over the terminal thingy and it will do the rest.
I used it a couple times, but after trying it... I find it much faster to just swipe my card instead of tapping it, entering pin. Still useful if I ever forget my actual wallet in the car or something, but it really isn't a time saver.

I paid at McDonald's vthe other day. Whipped out my phone and tapped it on the reader and blew the cashiers mind. Best part of it was she looked at me with the sad face and said "my iPhone can't do that" lmfao

The nfc is in the camera right
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Not sure where it is on the One, on the N7 it's in the middle of the device on the back. And on the N7 it works through cases which is a nice bonus too, I imagine it's the same for other phones and devices (not that you'd want to cover up the sexy beast that is the One ). Really looking forward to my upgrade in a couple weeks so I can have a phone that's NFC-capable, using a tablet isn't quite as wieldy or convenient.

I'm personally not sure. I'm the only one I know that has NFC. :sly:

NFC is super slow. So far, Android Beam can only send LINKS, like Youtube, Drive, Play store, etc and small files like contacts.
S beam uses NFC to trigger Wifi direct. But that's only Samsung to samsung.
Unless I'm wrong. In which case please show me the light. I know of no effective way to transfer files from android to android.
Use the app SuperBeam for nfc and qr code wifi direct file transfers.

As of jellybean nfc initiates Bluetooth to transfer larger files but things like links and other small files like u meantioned use android beam.
As gk said I'd also recommend superbeam I've used it to transfer with a nexus 7 and works like a charm it resembles s-beam in a way as it uses WiFi direct

Which leads me to another question... Why in the hell does android have wifi direct but not take advantage of it? It would be so much better... Apple took advantage with airdrop or whatever new iOS 7 feature that is...

I think Samsung might of patented their s-beam which could be the reason y android used Bluetooth instead
