Hello
I have problems connecting to my wireless network with my Milestone.
First of all, infos:
Device: Motorola Milestone
ROM: CM 10-20120823-Nightly for Milestone (last version from here: http://skrilax.droid-developers.org/cm10nightly/umts_sholes/ )
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
now to my problem in detail:
I'm trying to get a working WLAN connection to my router. first, my router wasn't found at all. after some googleing i switched the channel from 12 to 11 (channel 1 to 10 are quite full).
now it found the router and the connection-symbol shows 3 to 4 (out of 4) bars connection strength. when i click it to connect, it either does not get an IP, or it shows bad connection. So to be sure, i told my dhcp to give my milestone a specific IP. But when it shows me bad connection again, the device tells me that it has no ip adress.
i was running CM7 before installing CM10. I had wlan problems with CM7 too, but they weren't that bad. ad CM7, it sometimes did not connect, but a router restart has always fixed that, and once connected it alwas worked until i disabled WLAN.
I'd like to know if anyone of you could give me some hints on how i might solve the problem, or at least find out whats the source of it
Thanks
EDIT:
for some reason i'm connected now. i dont know why, so i tested disconnecting and reconnecting. didn't work the first time, but it connected properly the second try. although i got the connection now, i'm still interested in infos about the problems

I have upgraded the phone to gingerbread and have problems connecting to wifi in school. I can see that it is secured with WPA/WPA2, others have no problems connecting.
I had the same problem with a Hero, it just worked with one ROM (not gingerbread), but those other who can connect have gingerbread.
Wasda problem?!
And it's not rooted. Kinda new phone you know and has warranty.
I have the same issue, my phone will only connect to some routers and other people have no problem getting i wifi connection. I'm using MIUI 1.12.16. Anyone have any idea on how to sort this problem out? Thanks.
I can connect to any routers but if i go to WiFi Settings and see if i am connected, it had a little icon next to the router name. When i am connected and i can get internet on my phone the color of the icon is blue (because of my theme) and if i am connected but i can not get internet the the color of that icon is like grey even if the connection is 100%.
Maybe that's a Kernerl problem? I had the same issue WRXRB320 with my router! I changed wi-fi settings from Wpa2 to Wpa and still not worked.. than changed kernel to vadonka's and installed "set DNS" from market! I don't know if the app can solve your problem but give it a try!
EDIT: The app works only if your device is ROOTED

Hi, i'm on vadonka's ETaNa kernel and my wifi is working now with 1 of the routers in my house, but with the other router when i try to connect to it, it says "obtaining ip address". I will download set DNS from the market and see it that will help me, thank you
I tried the app and my phone was still stuck on "obtaining ip"
Hello
since installing 3.4 I have had issues with this rom however none so serious I jumped ship however I have problems with conecting to my home wifi which is causing pain...
I have set up wifi on my note as dhcp and my netgear router is also set to give ip address via dhcp however the note will only connect sometimes otherwise the message 'obtaing ip address' is shown then the connection drops to remembered and then Im back on 3G. I have tried various fixes including re-flashing the rom providing a static ip address. I have this issue with any dhcp network the note just will not connect all the time...

It happen even on stock to me mate. What I do is turn off wifi,go to browser and navigate to any site(yeah with wifi turned off still and data network off),when it gives you error turn on wifi and refresh the page.
I know its irritating but I have no solution and it works for me
still trying to find a solution to this. setting wifi sleep policy to Never seems to help I also deleted the dhcp_list file which forces the note to reconnect from scratch each time it connects to a known network rather than selecting it from the list. still not a full fix. seems to be a samsung thing rather than rom based. do the modem downloads available control the wifi functions or are they just for radio 3g etc as I will try a different modem to see if that helps.....

Got me a new router from my ISP, of course there were issues instantly! Having problems connecting to wifi. Called my ISP and they said there is a bug somewhere in the router or in android itself. The router is a ZYXEL P-2812HNU-F1. They said I needed to get a static ip adress to each device. I got my Galaxy S2 up and running in no time, however, my HP Touchpad is not being so friendly. It says I'm connected but I get the grey wifi icon. Tried to disconnect and reconnect but no result. Also tried to forget the wifi and so on but no result. Also changed to b/g since it handles /n aswell. I've changed the router channel. In addition, my TP have begun to reboot randomly often in very fast cycles. I've flashed the Supreme mods a few days ago and everything worked flawlessly with my old router. Could the Supreme mod interfere with this maybe? Anyone please, this is so frustrating!
Edit: I'm on CM9 14 July build

The wifi icon color is blue when you're connected to the Google servers. I remember reading something similar to your situation, I'll post a link if I find it. Meanwhile, you've probably tried this, but in case you haven't, try turning the router off for a while, then turn it back on again. You might want to go to a later build, they're quite stable. I'm one of the lucky ones, only had any wifi issues once, and turning the router off then back on solved it for me.
Good luck.
Edit : Try deleting the Supreme mods, they might be the problem.
As you said, I've tried to switch off the router and put it back on but I tried it once again but no result. I've also removed the supreme mods but there is no difference. I still get the grey wifi icon. Maybe should try a newer build, so tiredsome though but maybe the only solution. Will call my ISP for a factory reset on the system aswell.
Edit: Managed to come up with a solution. My ISP wasn't of any help so I had to do something on my own. So, I changed the security to wpa instead of wpa2 and noticed that my tablet got connection! The thing is, I want to use the /n standard and wpa does not support that. So (again), I had to enable a second wireless network and luckily my router supports four. One network with wpa2 (laptop) and one with wpa (tablet). Not a pretty solution but it works!

I did read somewhere that giving the TouchPad a static IP address helped with a lot of WiFi problems, maybe its something you could try. I personally haven't had any WiFi problems so I have never needed to test it.

Made a little update on my previous post. The solution was that I needed to change the security on my network (wpa2 to wpa). But as you mentioned, I needed to set it to a static IP adress aswell. Up and running now, as I type at least
try running an atheros update. i also prefer wifi analyzer for connecting to wireless networks rather than the android wireless settings. It shows you detail and information that android settings do not. Lets you configure channel options for B/G/N and A. plus more. its avail in google play.
I have been facing the problem for the last week or so. I do-not get any internet connection through my phone's WiFi hotspot . The WiFi does connect to my windows 7 laptop , but then I don't get any internet connection ( windows says limited connectivity and I donot have this problem with USB tethering ). Does any body have any ideas on how to go about fixing this issue..?? Thanks
PS : I need WiFi hotspot ,as I often connect my lappy to it while charging and i do have other devices i need internet connection at times
I am currently on temasek's 129 kang and 725 BB/RIL
Anybody any hints or insights into.this one ???

The other devices work? Try reconnecting with different security (open instead of wpa for example). Maybe your Laptop is not configured properly (fixed IP address, wrong network type, firewall, etc).
It is just guesswork on my end. There are too many variables unknown to give you better advice.
Last resort would be a full wipe of your o2x. But that is only a good idea if you have proven that other devices connected to your phone via wlan do not work as well and that your laptop is configured correctly.
Have a nice day!
Got resolved. Apparently I had used adhoc mode on my laptop to make my laptop a hotspot ..Even though I had deleted the adhoc connection , I had not turned off Internet connection sharing , this was causing this .. Blimey .. Hope windows had warned me about this instead of telling "limited conection "
well Dang
I just flashed cm10 Nightly, and cant use Wifi-hotspot,, First i thought it was RIL, but i learnd you dont mess with the RIL in CM10.. and it aint any problem with the computer, it can connect to other hotspots..
The built-in Hotspot thing is hanging in "starting hotspot" and from there i have to reboot to get it going again..and this one isnt even showing up on wireless networks on the Laptop,.. so.
I Downloaded a 3rd party , https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=android.tether
It seems very nice, and it goes saying in the log that it started up Okey, and the laptop can now se the "ad-hoc" wireless it created.. but when connecting and using the password, it aint doing nothing, no IP, no nothing.. and the app have a acces-control, where nothing is showing..
Any hints for me ? =)
Hi folks !
Recently I started to experience some troubles using my WiFis connections. The problem is simple, the connection drops, the WiFi network disappears from all the devices, and a few seconds later it comes back.
At first I thought it was a problem with the router of my work. But then I started to experience the same things at home. Then I decided to test the WiFi without connecting my Razr i to it and it worked like a charm. Now, as soon as I connect my Razr i to a WiFi, it crashes a few seconds/minutes later and keep doing it until I disconnect my phone from the WiFi.
Did someone experience the same thing ? Have you any idea for solving the problem ?
Thanks anyway.
PS : I only use 5Ghz WiFis. I'll try with 2.4 soon but the 5Ghz compatibility was one of the reasons why I bought this phone...
We have also issues with our WLAN at home, which is sometimes (but not always) very unstable in connection with a Samsung 5 Laptop (regular reboots shortly after activating the laptop Wifi).
I did not experience this problem yet with my Razr i, but I will keep it in mind over the next days (we have a complex setup with several computers, phones and Android entities based around a Fritzbox 7390, so error identification and validation takes very long and is not finished yet).
BTW - if you look for help here, please specify your WLAN router in detail as well as your provider and general IT-setup.

Well ! Thanks for the reply.
My router that provides the two WiFis is a Cisco Linksys WRT61N.
My setup is kinda complex but works well. Got another router provided by my ISP, which is the DHCP server. This router is connected to a port of the WRT61N switch. Not to the internet port. Every connection that enters in the ISP router goes to the Linksys, and then is NATed by it. I don't think those informations are very relevant but anyway here they are. That's a complex setup but it works well (needed to do that because I have cable connection, and the cable modem/router have very limited configuration).
The devices that use my two WiFi are :
2.4Ghz : My Razr i right now.
5Ghz : Two iPads, and the HTC 8X of my girlfriend.
I made some other tests, one the Razr i there is an option for switching on or off a kind of network frequency. So instead of both enabled, I enabled only the 2.4Ghz WiFi frequency and connected my phone to my 2.4Ghz WiFi. No problems detected. Stable connection. Right now I'm at work, and everything works well in 2.4Ghz. So there is clearly a problem with the 5Ghz frequency on my Razr i.
Anyway, during those tests, I discovered something very interesting. My battery life had a huge improvement with the desactivation of the 5Ghz WiFi frequency.
Thanks for the details - especially on the 2.4/5 GHz topic.
I am also at work right now, but will check it at home and keep you posted.
WPA2
I had the same problem, I think it was triggered everytime the phone went to "sleep". It was changing the security encryption that fixed it for me. I can't remember what i had on the router as default, and I'm not at home right now to check what I'm running, but I believe it's WPA2. After the change, I had no trouble whatsoever. Hope this helps, good luck!
EDIT: nevermind what i said, i just logged into my router and remembered it wasnt the encryption type settings, but rather the wifi standard used, it used to be 802.11 b+n+g, and now i got it sitting at 802.11 b+g, which equals to 2.4 GHz. Meaning the razr has apparently a problem with the 5 GHz spectrum..
I too have a RAZRi which is connected by wi-fi at home to a Fritz!Box 7390. I noticed that when the RAZRi went into sleep mode with wi-fi connected (keep wi-fi on setting) it would have lost any internet connection on waking, requiring a disconnection/reconnection to reset. More annoyingly there was also a loss of connection (IP address) at laptops also connected to the router by w-fi on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections, which needed a reboot of either the PC or the router to re-establish a connection. The router GUI would show them all as remaining connected.
By using the manual setting on the router to restrict 2.4GHz connections to b+g (not b+g+n), it looks so far as though both problems are avoided, and the RAZRi can be set to use either the available 2.4GHz or 5GHz (a+n) connection on the Fritz! successfully without problems. EDIT big problem is though that disabling "n" on 2.4GHz seems to cause wi-fi throughputs to crash by more than 50% on both frequencies (which for me negates the benefit of having VDSL) - they recover if I re-enable, but then the lockups start if the phone is connected. A hobsons choice.
Thanks guys.
