I'm practically out of internal storage space and I've only got a handful of apps installed. I'm confused about 'apps2sd' and 'apps2ext', I've tried searching around this forum and other web sites but this has partly added to that confusion.
Firstly, 'apps2sd' and 'apps2ext', are these actually generic phrases that can be used to refer to several different apps / features / methods as opposed to just one app or feature of Android?
Also, I understand that from Froyo onwards some apps2sd capabilities is built in to the OS but this is clearly not enough for probably most people with an S5830i. I've already got the maximum number of my current apps that the OS and apps will allow, stored on my SD card.
So I was thinking of creating an ext3 partition on my SD card for the purpose of moving my apps there. What I'd like to know is once I've done this how do I move all apps, including the data and Davlik cache portions of the apps, onto my SD's ext3 partition? None of the apps I can see on the Android market do this except S2E which requires the CM7/9 ROM.
So can I actually get any apps2ext functionality with the stock ROM at all or is this just not possible?
Can't I symlink the appropriate directories and just move the files? My phone is rooted by the way.
Link2sd works on dis fone.

Thanks I'll try giving that a go when I sort another issue out that I now have!
Link2SD app is the solution for low memory on this sgai. I have now more than 60 apps installed and still 40 MB internal memory. See also www.link2sd.info/faq

i know that we should all try out which seems to be best fitting for our own personal taste, but i just want to know if who uses what the most. so please, tell me: which rom you use and what you use to transfer apps to your partition because i have tried a lot of other scripts and apps, but i just can't seem to decide which is the best. thanks in advance if you would cooperate
I am on cm7.2RC5.2 and use 'link2sd' for linking apps to sd.

I use CM7 RC5.5 with darktremor script and this script.
I'm using CM7 RC5.5 along with s2e.
everything works very well.
I have use s2e and darktremor both are good and working but i think darktremor is the better choise!! Havent try the both other!!
Notice: on s2e app do not sync automatic like weather etc. on darktremor no problem!!

I use cm7.2 rc5.5 with latest link2sd.
Works flawless.
Used link2sd also on other roms. No problems there to.

I see most of you use link2sd. But for those who use s2e, have you already experienced a time when you boot your sgm, you suddenly lose all your apps and you can't check or uncheck the Applications box?

Did not experience this problem. Been using s2e for a long time. You can check the Application data by going to s2e settings and check Advance mode. Restart s2e, and you should be able to check it. But I think its impratical to move it to sd-ext. The developer had it default to not move it. I mean, what's the use of your internal memry if nothing's on it? Afaik, the developer chose not to move it since it needs a high I/O speed and internal mem best suits the requirement. It's only practical to move it if you have a class 10 sd card.. still its the users choice, so..

A sd card class 10 certified is a must if you don't want to loose so much speed compared to internal memory.
Although reading speed is not that prob for many card, writing is the more important factor. There class 10 should give you best results.
You can also gain more speed setting a higher sd read ahead cache size. You can do it via an app (sd speed increase for example) or a rom which supports it (cm7 rc5.5 squadzone for example).

I use emanon V4 and i have try both of darktremor n s2e..maybe darktremor is better than s2e but i like to use s2e
Its not just you who experienced s2e corrupting the partition and destroying all partition data suddenly. It happened to me thrice and got me pissed like ****. Now I removed partition, formatted my 8 GB memory card. Flashed cm7 by subskype. Using the default cyanogen settings options to set default installation directory to external memory i.e memory card. Am done with this partition crap.

To everyone, thanks a lot for cooperating. I think I'd try s2e, link2sd, darktremor, and the move to sd card settings in cyanogenmod each in a week. Then I'll see which one I think is best.

Before... I used to link Dex to SD from the APKs using Link2SD...
But now, it can still link but after reboot, the Dex is not linked to SD but to DATA partition...
This time... I can no longer install many heavy apps such as Quickoffice (Dex 7.69MB)...
Please recommend me a ROM that can link Dex to SD and won't move to DATA partition after reboot...
PS: It seems older MiniCM7 works but I don't know what version...
I know how DEX works but I rather don't need it... Space is more important for me.
EDIT:
Delete all kinds of script interfering Link2SD, this includes, A2SD, Apps2SD, Mounts2SD, S2E init.d scripts... located on system/etc/init.d
I've used link2sd on gdx 18+ and rc1 and it works ok.

Does ODEXED ROMs uses less space on DATA partition? Because I'm using GingerEricsson (Fail) is DEODEXED ROM uses at least more or less 40 MB of the DATA partition on first use... NO user apps installed...
I think odexing uses more /data space. That's how it seems in /system/app. But i'm no expert in this. Let's wait for someone who can answer that.

I've just tried GingerZaraki today (ODEXED ROM), and it seems uses little /data size. What I know ODEXED ROMs' dex are also inside their own folder which is included in the ROM, that could be the reason why it's heavy than DEODEXED ROMs.
I'm still not sure if it's okay to use CM7 built-in apps2sd (ext partition)...

Delete what? Unnecessary crap? Go to system/app and remove things you don't need/want. I suspect that you're a bit noobish, so check out the thread, "Applications that's Safe To Remove", or something like that (just scroll up).

If I understand the question correctly, he wants to know how to increase RAM, not storage. Storage is not a big deal both internal or external. But RAM is only 800+M and mostly 700+M is occupied and makes Note sluggish sometimes. Anyway, this is my first post at xda and greetings to each & every1 of you
Use TB
Just install Titanium Backup and goto Batch mode then scroll down to Un-Install all user and system apps. Then follow this link https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html to see whats safe to remove. Remove all that you do not require and you will find a huge difference in space which will speed up your device as well. Hope this helps.

You need at least noob knowledge of adb (ie copy-pasting commands).
The second command was
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
rather than
parted /dev/block/mmcblock0
I've just done it on my Note.

Flash s2e (in general thread) and move the app to the sd, obviously if you have a partitioned sdcard
If youdon´t have a partition sdcard (like me) you should try moving apps to system to free memory in the data/app . Move the apps to system/app as many as you can but don´t full it.
No i have sd partition and using with s2e have much space but yet when i install it .it shows not enough space .I think adroid 4.2 doest not supports that app

i've got the same conf (rohan007's cm10.1 // annson08's patched s2e // tsf shell) and it works like a charm
[with some other tweaks - not storage related]
everything except app data on sd-ext (but when experimented it worked even whith everything on)
it's probably up to s2e; have you flashed it or installed it like .apk?
hope the above mentioned parameters, or at least the moral support helped
Can anybdy tell me how to install apps directly on my sd card because of the low internal storage I cannot install many apps and my phone is rooted any help will appreciated TIA

the question is how did you do it bro i can't figure out i have sandisk 16 gigs class 10 sd card..so pls tell me..
both of these apps Are free on play store.
Link2sd needs a secondary partition creating I used easeus free windows tools and set to primary. Then open app and select apps you want, then create link.
Folder mount works similar but you need to create a new folder then select which data files to copy across.
Search Google for the how to guides or xda how to use
Try clean master.

Link2SD is for those small apps that dont use /sdcard/android/data or /obb folders. FolderMount is for those huge /obb data and more. Use both for pushing all those files and apps to microsd.
