Hi, my samsung galaxy s 2 recently broke and I'm planning on using my old phone until my galaxy is repaired. I have my old htc incredible s, but the only problem is that it's locked to Virgin Mobile and I'm with Fido now. How do I unlock my phone so that I can use my Fido sim card on it?

Contact Virgin Mobile and ask them for the SIM unlock code. If they will not provide you with it, then you will have to resort to one of the paid services that will sell you an unlock code.
Are you certain it's network locked? From my experience Virgin generally don't lock their devices - I've had a few different phones from them and they've never been network locked.

In Canada, Virgin Mobile is owned by Bell mobility, and these phones are locked. Without unlocking the phones the only sims which can be used, are those from Bell and Virgin.

I have a Three branded Galaxy S but stuck an O2 PAYG SIM in the other day. The phone didn't ask to be unlocked but just worked with the new SIM.
Does this mean my handset is unlocked? I haven't done anything to unlock it - it's bog standard 2.1 as it came from Three.
Sounds to me like your phone is factory unlocked, I purchased mine from Bell (but the phone doesn't say Bell on it anywhere.. weird eh?) And I had to put in an unlock code once for my Rogers SIM.
Interesting question I've also got the same idea.
I've got my phone on contract via Virgin Mobile but it has Optus Apps.
Virgin is not associated with Optus but uses its satellite system. The phone also works with Optus sim cards (tested).
Does anyone know?
I got the feeling its a Galaxy S (I9000) from Optus' inventory but it has been factory unlocked so that they can let it work with the Virgin plan.
PS I live in Australia

Hey everyone,
I recently bought a HD2 for flashing fun, then I realized it was locked to one of the telcos that I don't use.
I just wondered if an app exists like on some other phones to remove the sim lock. Or flashing a file or debranded rom will do it.
Thanks so much

I don't believe there is a program or app that you can use you to SIM unlock your device.
You need a IMEI code to unlock it. Search the internet for a company that does it and compare prices, usually costs between $10 -$25
I used this company over a year ago to unlock a AT&T phone that I bought so I could switch it to TMobile, which was the service that I had.
They sell you the IMEI unlock code and then you insert the new carriers SIM card or one from an already activated device, restart the phone and enter the IMEI code. The new service has to be a GSM network for it to work. You might have to setup your APN to get internet working properly.
This is the company that I used and this is the link for the HD2.

Here's another one that does it.

I believe the answer to this is "no", but:
I have access to an AT&T SM-G900A that is not being used. My daughter is about to move to Germany for an extended period.
First, can the phone be used in Europe at all?
I certainly wouldn't want to pay AT&T's probably-exorbitant rates, so then: can we buy a SIM card there to use in it as is? (pretty sure the answer is "no")
If I unlocked the phone (by buying an unlock code), could it then be used with a Europe-purchased SIM card?
I suspect this is all more trouble than it's worth and I'm better of just finding a used unlocked GSM phone of some sort.
Much thanks.
if you can use it abroad unless you unlock it first.
I have a galaxy s5 att and I am using it with another carrier here in south america.
only bad thing is that the wifi hotspot will not work for being a simcard from another operator, only work by usb tether.
It's working well. I bought an AT&T Galaxy S5 from USA and now I use it in Romania.
The WiFi hotspot is not working, but all the other features work very well.
Probably, after the bootloader will be cracked and we will have the opportunity to install a custom rom or an unbranded rom, the hotspot will function as well.
Enjoy your gadget !
All answers are correct. I was formerly in the U.S.Army and took an old T-Mobile HTC Dream over to Kuwait with me. I called T-MO and got a sim unlock code for free. Upon getting overseas I established service with a GSM carrier over there and popped in my sim card and whallaa! My phone completely worked in Europe and the middle east.

Hello
I have an HTC one which I bought from outside of Canada.
I'm currently living in Canada and I would like to have wind service working on my phone.
I bought wind SIM card and it tells me that SIM card is not supported.
Are there any apps or roms that make this possible?
Btw my phone is rooted and the boot loader is open.

your phone is probably carrier locked. You will need to sim-unlock the phone to use it with another carrier (i.e wind)
There is already a few threads on this, you might to take a look:

Need to sim unlock my htc desire 626s
well i had success unlocking my phone with this website w.unlocklocks.com/ though i ended up paying 34.99 for them to unlock it ,now its unlocked
Well if you connect it with Metro PCS they can give you an unlock code right away, since you didn't buy the phone from a store.

The HTC Desire 626s (like the other new models from T-Mobile/MetroPCS) is locked by the "Unlock Device" app that connects to the T-Mobile/MetroPCS server and asks for unlock.
This phone cannot be unlocked neither with code or by playing with the files in the System.
The only way to Unlock it is by buying a service, i bought one for MetroPCS for about 25 bucks in ebay.
I also have unlocked 2 Desire 626s from Boost Mobile with this service: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252348223935?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
The same seller has another listing for Virgin Mobile that I have used before to GSM unlock my 626s. The guy gave me a discount just when I asked for it and everything was pretty easy!
Maybe you should ask him to see if he can unlock yours
The unlock app worked for me. All it did was check with the carrier or something and it was approved. The phone restarted and a notification said the phone's unlocked. The app also uninstalled
