You first need to create main storage. Fat or fat32
Second create sd-ext
Third create swap partition - 128mb good
I respect to the members who respect to the other rest.

Not a good idea..
All roms here support ext4 filesystem which is much faster than fat32 even with swap..
Best never use swap and format the sdcard as ext4 in CWM recovery...

I don't Know what difference will be obtained if i change from ext2 to ext4.
Anyone explain why to do that?
Thank you
It does make a difference if you are using Linux, but for android phones, I am not sure. The following link should clear all your doubts.

Well, I saw this thread and I didn't want to open a new one for almost the same reason.
I'm running CM7 which supported ext4, so I changed from ext2 to ext4. But .... I didn't feel much improvement ....so, I want to revert the process. :/
How to do it?
Any tips?
TIA!

I'm not exactly sure if you are able to downgrade a partition. Converting upwards seems to be feasible, but downwards I don't think so. So long as you have a backup of your SD card, you can just restart the process for creating an ext2 partition.
You can turn off journaling and see if it improves ext4.

So...by typing this you get the journaling disabled?
But, I soooooo newbie in this, but isn't journaling makes ext4 be ext4? ^_^ , I mean if I disable journalimg then I gonna have an ext2 called ext4, ain't I right?

There are other benefits to using ext4 though.
If you used the extents parameter, files won't get fragmented so they would be accessed faster than on ext2.
In the other thread that I linked to, I got into a little debate with somebody who knows more about it than me. heh.
But if you read it, I found that if an app is is 5 mb, you can have it all together in one peice on ext4 (with extents) instead of needing to create the indirect mapping for 12800 blocks (without extents ) which means that the system will need to call the block allocator 12800 times.
Just seems faster with extents to me

As the title suggests, is it possible to run a SD-EXT Partition on a Class-4, 8gb Memory Card?
What are the issues that i may have to face?
Is it reversible?
PLEASE, Do not tell me to buy a new one
Thanks in Advance!

Glad to hear that
I read somewhere that it was irreversible! Thankyou for confirming it as false
Anyway could you provide a link to the complete procedure? Like from partitioning to using a good script? And do you suggest EXT3 or EXT4?
Thanks a lot

Best and quick way to partition would be via ClockWorkMod Recovery and it will automatically use EXT4 which is better.
And I would recommend Link2SD, no problem with it so far for me.

hey.... since your using a class 4 sd card remember not to flash new roms frequently as sd extension gets formatted every time you flash a new rom... and if formatted too many times your card is surely going to get damaged soon ... i'm saying this because i've faced this problem !!!

Formatting has no effect on the partition. Delete the existing partition & create a new one & set swap memory as you need or just reduce the swapiness tendency using the tweaks manager ( if you have it ).

Thx Dude

Copy EVERYTHING from sdcard to pc->
reboot into recovery->
advanced->
partition sdcard-> set swap size to 0MB->
copy everything from pc to sdcard again->
Done!!
Also, make nandroid backup of phone in case something goes wrong; not that it will, but you can never be too cautious!

Internal memory is limited to ~200 MB for user+200mb for ur rom.
U can extend user memory by using ur sdcards space,
All u have to do is
1# creating a EXT3 OR EXT4 partition with PC on ur sdcard, (use minitool partition program)
2# or u can make that partition from recovery (sdcard format)
From advanced menu

I don't use ext partition ,cause I don't really need that.(I use native fat partition for app storage)

Hi, you need partition
take a look here
anyway internal memory is too short to run all the apps you'll want
You can't.
