UPDATE: While the second app, "Paragon NTFS", works it doesn't allow you to download or update certain apps when its mounted. My only work around is to unmount the card via the app then download the app, then re-mount the card. In addition to that you have to manually re-mount the card any time you restart your phone

SD Card unreadable after root

I've rooted my phone and used many Cyanogen roms.. but ever since the last one (4.1.11.1) I can not read my SD card when I mount it to my PC. It says it needs formatting when it really doesn't as I'm using the phone as normal, saving pics.. backups etc.
Can anyone help me with this as there is no way I can get Cyanogen's latest mod without access to my SD Card.
Thanks!
Have you tried to access it in Ubuntu?
Also can you mount it in adb and push an update to the card?
I haven't tried either of those but I will and get back to you..
Thanks!

"Application is not installed on your phone" after moving apps to SD on Froyo

"Application is not installed on your phone" after moving apps to SD on Froyo
hey guys,
first of all i searched the forum but didn't find anything like my problem
(i run Froyo on non-rooted Nexus One)
so, i moved several apps to SD using that ADB command to change default install location from internal memory to SD. everything worked and apps were running smoothly. then my battery went dead during the night and when i switched the phone on in the morning i see icons with green robot for all those apps moved to SD. and if i try running them i get "application is not installed on your phone" error message. thou apps are still on the SD. it seems that my phone erased the part of the data of those apps stored in the internal memory.. which sucks.
anyone faced such a problem so far? i wonder if it's possible to solve without reinstalling all the apps..
many thx in advance.
Cheers.
It happened on my phone too, just removed battery for few minutes.
Looks like a bug.

Forcing the apps to install to SD will break them. In order for applications to be successfully moved to the SD card in Froyo, they must have an appropriate flag set on them from the developer. If the application isn't updated with this flag, it will not work by default from the SD card.
The ADB command should work fine (I think) once all apps are updated, but until then it will just cause problems like what you're seeing.

Not sure, as I'm currently unable to access the market (being deployed will do that). There is a thread on the subject though, which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687659

THanks man!!
I set the installation location to SD via ADB and restored my apps via Titanium Backup. Here's what I found.
Apps will occasionly seem to have dissapeared (from App page + download page from the market) seems intermittent and seems to correct itself.
If you mount the SD card via USB then obviously your phone can't access the apps, after unmounting it takes a little time for the system to correct itself (my recommendation is to turn the screen off and on again).
Keep any widget app you are going to use on the phone's storage (i.e. install app, then move it back to phone via the 'applications' menu).
Shortcuts to apps will revert to a generic green/white robot icon, but they will still work (not when the SD card is mounted via usb though obviously).
Basically any application/live wallpapers or anything else that you expect to run live (constantly) should be moved to the phones memory.

This is how I've been using it, also when you reboot the phone, I give it a minute to calculate the applications on the SD card and load them into the phone memory. (Notice if you go to App settings while you can't access the application, they are all there and being "calculated."

you're going to have to be a little more specific..........how do you mean disappear? and when does it happen? any other side affects (have to reboot to "make it reappear") ?

I mean sometimes I can change wallpapers through gallery and i see my stuff... then like an hour or two later there's nothing there -- it doesn't detect my SD card hence it "disappears"
I have to reboot about 5 times a day to get it back
what does it say when you open up gallery? when i had an issue with mine, it would say "no sd card" or something to that affect.
or does yours just not show any pictures?
edit: is this your external sdcard or your internal one?

Internal SD
It says "no items" when I open up gallery
have you tried flashing a new rom? or possibly do you have a app killer that might be killing some services?

next time you get the error
run that app
if that still doesn't help
make sure you have no file called .nomedia in the gallery folder or the root of your internal SD

if i plug in my phone usb cable in Kies mode
i can still access the Internal and External SD cards in the phone
also in the PC
i find this the most convenient
when using it with the USB Debugging method ON, then i have to manually MOUNT the SD cards for them to work on the PC
but i lose access to the internal SD and External SD when i do that.
that is the NORMAL behavior

check if your SD card is selected to MTP you can do that by connecting to usb and it should give you that option on this rom. or if not try switching apps from external to internal and if that doesnt work you may have to re-install your apps.
hope this helps. keep me updated

Set files to download to SD card

Alright. I have the new $50 tablet with (Sadly) 5.1.1 on it, meaning I can't root. I understand that is a separate issue. I wanted to ask you all about the SD Card, since my onboard storage is almost all gone. Is there a way to route all downloads to the SDcard? For instance, just set up the downloads folder to cut and paste automatically into the SD card? I understand I can't r/w without root access, but I need to know if there is any workaround. I use an app for downloading movies and T.V. shows but it downloads by default to the onboard storage, which doesn't have enough room for the files, so downloading them then cutting and pasting is not a solution.
Any help is appreciated!
I know for fact that all apps you install must first go to internal storage. Maybe try using some other app for shows and movies? There must be an option to change download location.

Download ES file explorer, and when you initiate a download, select to open it with es file explorer. there is no way to set chrome to download to your SD card.

If you install the 5.1.1 FireOS OTA fastboot commands will be blocked. Since we don't have an unlocked bootloader we have to boot twrp from fastboot every time we need recovery for anything. Without fastboot, the device is completely crippled and stuck on FireOS with no way to get any other roms installed.
My problem is big game obb files. GTA San Andreas is close to 2.5 GB and if you manually push the files to external the game wont run.

I assume no. The files are downloaded to the internal by default and you can move it from sdcard0/Android/obb to sdcard1/Android/obb but then the game will not run. It also happens with AVP Evolution.

Usually you can move the .apk to sd card but not the obb file.
If you are rooted and use xposed there is a module called 'Obb2sd' which allows you to move the obb files over to external sd and the game/app will still run.

Dang it... It infuriates me what they did with the 5.1.1 update. I waited MONTHS to get root on fire phone, now I have to do it AGAIN?
Sorry for the rant... I must get pissed she ever I think about it. Rooting is the ONLY reason I bought this thing...
Any tests or help I can provide?
If you are rooted you can use Foldermount to create symlinks to redirect internal storage to the microSD. I use it to redirect the internal Download folder to the microSD card. You could use it to redirect cache folders etc too.
