Hi all! I'm thinkin' about buyin' a Samsung Galaxy S Plus from someone who sell's it and I want to check the phone before buying to know if it was rooted until then. How to I do this?
If it has an app called superuser or supersu its rooted
Sent via that ninja standing right behind you
let me be more explicit : as samsung galaxy ace, which can be rooted and then unrooted, I want to know if on galalaxy s plus can be possible this action. If the seller rooted the phone and with a few days before selling to me he unrooted the phone, that's what I need to know...
I don't think so you can check if he has unrooted his phone or not

why don't you update via kies? it updated my 2.2.1 to 2.3.5 without any complains and it was really fast and easy.
And uninstalling/installing a program will not make samsung mad that they brick your phone for it, so no worries mate.
Hi,
I purchased a T-mobile galaxy tab in US. I want to root it now. But before rooting, is there a way to take a back up stock rom so that I can reflash it if required?
Also, let me know the steps for unrooting and reflashing stock rom for claiming warranty.

That's are great tutorial.. I like it.
I just can't get myself to root. Anyone else with me? Every phone I've had I never had to worry about losing my warranty, EVER.
Think they will ever come up with a way NOT to trip the knox?

I believe they did it for the Note 3, so why not the S5?
thinking I will hold off a bit to see if any non-knox roots come out... not sure if I can wait that long though... I love messing with my android phones
Unrooting the device though Odin works in restoring your warranty. Doing so make it as if it never was rooted.
atlast I have rooted it successfully
In iPhone, I failed to jailbreak first time, because I updated iOS version 6 to ios7 from my device software update. (OTA=Over the air). Not by iTunes.
But that time solved the problem, by Restoring my device via iTunes. And then able to jailbreak easily..
Now my Question:
Since Galaxy S5 came in version 4.4.2...
But after using 2 or 3 days, an update was installed in my SMG-900H.
Update file size was about 25-30mb.
But still version no is 4.4.2, no change is there..
So will it cause a problem (like- iphone) , if I try to Root my Galaxy S5 first time?

yes you can root, but can't do any more updates after rooting. if you want to update in the future, you would need to go back to stock causing you to lose root, update, and then, root again after the update.
Hi,
I want to root my S5 as soon as I get it (as with all my previous Galaxy devices)
But , the rooting procedure makes the device "custom" and then Allsharecast does not work as far as I know.
Is there a solution to this for S5 ?
On the S3 and Note 8 , I had a modified lib file (libWFD_Engine.so) which fixed the problem of being a custom device.

Do you by chance know how to get a stock ftf (?) file which we can use in case root fails?
I am on UK H3G SM-G900F Android 5.0. Build number is G900FXXU1BOD3.

Guys, this thread is over a year old and is outdated now that Lollipop is out.
Use cf root method from note 10.1 2014 edition. Download the files for odin, flash using odin, and profit!
Is it the smt600 file from chain fires site. Or the 2 files from the note 10.1 2014 edition forum. I soft bricked when I did chain fire smt600 file. How to root.

Did it work for you. Cant seem to get it to work stuck on boot logo. Need to reodin stock rom.
Be mindful of the Knox counter. Knox might be an issue, if resale or return is a possbility.
Don't really care about knox I sold my tab pro for this. Problem is I can't root. I tried at least 5 times with the above method even tried the tab pro 10.1 cf root. Odin is success. But cant get pass boot logo. Is there something I'm doing wrong.
I haven't received my tablet yet. But has anyone tried towelroot?

Play it safe and wait for the Devs to come up with a safe root for the Tab S. No roms yet anyway so why bother?
Don't make a $500 paperweight because you were impatient.

+1, Exactly. I just experienced this. I tried the root method listed in this thread and it bricked the device. (It just remained stuck on the Samsung logo screen), Luckily I just picked it up yesterday and was still well within the return policy at BestBuy. I just got it replaced.
So YES, Please just wait until the DEVS post a root process which is tested functional for this specific device.
Just a warning/heads-up based on my very recent experience

I'd take it even a step further. Don't trust anything from anyone unless they have the xda dev symbol by their name. They are the only ones who have a long track record of putting out quality safe code. If some guy says "hey this is my first rom!", proceed with extreme caution. Might be fine and then again it might not.
These expensive toys break easily. Take this seriously.
I think mod should lock this thread because:
No pic of evidence
No link to the file
OP didn't state which Tab S model who uses.

Agreed. I'm like a cop-show me the evidence!
Had a Surface Pro 2, returned it as a POS and got both Tab S slates in exchange-so I'm anxious for root, but not this anxious! !

How is that even possible with no stock firmware released?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
FYI, I tried towelroot on an earlier firmware and it appears to be patched. Simplest method here we will have to wait till the teams at TWRP or CWM create a recovery for our device and then we can just flash the SuperSU zip once that's out.
Nothing too hard since our devices aren't locked, just need some attention here is all.
FYI, I flashed the TWRP recovery from the Tab Pro and unsurprisingly it didn't boot into it.
I'm uploading latest stock firmware for the 8.4 model and hopefully should have it up tonight.

Rooting any samsung rom running 5.1.1 requires a custom kernel not only the S5 mini
in fact its not kernel but a boot
I've been using the Russian method since it was released without any single problem
i have no idea why people dont trust it :/
also don't USE CF-ROOT IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE
