Device doesn't point to the right direction - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I use Google Maps, my inbuilt navigation pointer doesn't point toward the correct direction. I have tried the gyroscope and the horizontal calibration but that hasn't solved the issue. Does anyone else experience this and know how to fix this?

hey there,
I got the same issue as you have.. and I would suffice to say it is your ROM that is having this issue.
I'ved used Kingdroid (latest version) before to CleanNote and to Classic ROM just lately.. and all of them are pointing to the wrong location where I'm in.
What I did is, I've flashed the latest stock LRQ firmware (and put some customizations imported from other ROMs) and now My GMap is locating accurately on my location.

It seems when I have GPS on, it does point in the right direction. It doesn't work when I try to find direction using wifi alone.

[Q] Rogers Captivate running stock 2.2 with SpeedMod kernel k12l bluetooth static?

I recently updated to Rogers stock Android 2.2, flashed the speedmod kernel k12l so that I can have the BLN and now when I try to do voice over bluetooth in my car all I get is static. I've done a bunch of reading and this seems to be due to the use of the stock i896 modem with the i9000 based speedmod kernel, correct? (Even though the kernel page seems to say this is based on i897, I've read elsewhere that it's actually based on i9000)
So, in light of this, what modem should I be using on my Canadian Rogers Captivate i896? I understand that there are lots of differences between the modems, but is there a general one that just works (perhaps not squeezing every last drop of performance, but at least works)?
Thanks
Jason
You can try tljl3 I found it much better than some who suggested NKP1
i'm currently in the exact same situation right now, i just got my rogers captivate i896 couple days ago and i've already flashed the latest voodoo SpeedMod Kernel (K13E) cuz i want to apply the lagfix. now i'm getting all static noise whenever i'm using a bluetooth headset.
I'm wondering if the op did eventually solve this issue (bluetooth headset static noise) and how did you do it. Also i'd like to know what is the issue with the different modem driver that the OP mention in the first post?
i'd apperciate if anyone can point me to a direction as im very new to all of this.
Thanks

I897 modem/kernel on I9000 rom.

Quick question, can I use i897 modem and kernel on an i9000 rom?
Just curious.

This actually seems logically possible.
If we can use a reoriented i9000 kernel + i9000 modem on a captivate rom, why can't we use a matching captivate modem+ kernel on an i9000 rom?
I thought the important thing is to match the modem and kernel...

You're right. As long as they match it's fine.
Well experimentation if the spice of life.

Well, accidentally I ended with this configuration:
ROM: Apex 9.2 (JVR)
KERNEL: Talon 4.4.22 (JVR)
MODEM: KH3
Teoretically this shouldnt be happening but everything seems to be working O.K. No Force Closes, WCDMA 850, average battery life, WiFi, etc.

you have always been able to run mix/match, until you need to make an actual phone call. no voice.

Yes I ran that combo until I got a phone call and the other person could not hear me and the volume was cutting in and out flashed back to JL2 all is good again
Running Dlevs 5.0, and latest talon kernel, modem JL2
As you can see from my signature I am still running 2.2 ROMs. I just prefer the stability, and have zero issues with both that I am using now on different captivates. One of them, Continuum 4.1 is and i9000 rom, using Onyx kernel with jk4, the other is the i897 Cognition, cog kernel, kb1.
I think, based on what I am reading here, I will try to intall the i897 modem and kernel on the Continuum 4.1 ROM. I really like this ROM but REALLY prefer the sound quality of the i897 roms because of the Audience chip.
I will experiment this weekend and report back. As of now, I prefer not to do this kind of experimentation with the GB roms. Anyone else interested in seeing how this turns out?

Hi Jack man,
if you are still considering flashing i897 kernel & modem , my captivate is still Froyo 2.2 stock (rooted), with the uckb2 modem and kernel 2.6.32.9. I already have a dump of the kernel (I checked is working) and could send you a dump of the uckb2 modem (unchecked, I'm unsure about flashing this one back, since I have the 100% battery shutdown issue and still considering a RMA) if you are willing to try.
Let me know,
Angel
Well, I experimented. Here's what I used and how it went.
I installed Continuum 4.1 (a froyo 2.2 rom) then flashed the Exist kb1 kernel along with the kb1 modem. I thought everything was going to be fine. Calls worked fine, data seemed ok but slower than I was expecting, but when I went to turn on wifi if just didn't work. I made sure it was't the router - my wife's phone was working fine on the router, along with a laptop on it.
it would also not connect to the neighbor's router either. Flashed back to Cog4.5.3 - wifi worked fine.
Too bad, because I really like the small features of Continuum 4.1
If anyone has any ideas to fix the wifi in this setup let me know. I would love to keep it.

Why does the Apex launcher lag on screen preview?

When I pinch in on the home screen to see screen previews of all my screens, the Apex launcher lags so bad it makes me cringe. I've even selected to keep Apex in memory, but that doesn't help with the extremely laggy screen preview. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

1.Had you try to enable force GPU rendering in developer option at system setting sir? and reduced the Window animation scale and Transition animation scale to 0.5 ? maybe you can try and see the different
2.Had you try it on other launcher and same result?
im on Criskelo v11.2 too did try apex and have same problem, you can try nova launcher everything good :victory:
Flash a aokp based rom and problemo solved!
interesting, didnt know that returned. It use to be an issue on earlier roms of ics.
You can try deleting data of Apex launcher, uninstall then reinstall freshly. That might solve it.
Yoi can try jbroid in recovery to clean maybe kernel issues and flash speedmod back afterwords. That way any kernel issues should be resolved.
Lastly, dependant upon your install patch of the ics rom it may be last option. Ultra clean instal: on speedmod kernel in recovery, factory reset, wipe cache, then in advanced dalvik cache. Then format system, data,(never efs and beware of idiotic mapping of sd card sometimes to external card, sometimes emmc to, best to take external card out).Note device now will not boot, all data and lingering files from previously installed roms are lost, thus no crap can hinderer normal operation from rom to be installed. Then head into download mode and reinstal rom through pc odin. Then install speedmod(note binary counter, annoyingly will increase giving exclamation mark) throught pc odin. Remedy anoying exclamation mark with chainfire tool, forgot name.
This way you, as a last resort you will have optimal situation for rom, but will have lost all data and installed applications.
You see most roms are nonwipe, thus files that can hinder operations are still there when updating ota/kies or by flashing non wipe rom throught pc odin. This causes almost all unexplained battery drains, weird foreclosures, etc that some experience and some not.
note advice is based on tips from other users and experience, all at own risk
also, never wipe and perform these steps on stock kernel, or stock kernel recovery, but always from safe kernel, or safe kernel booted recovery, like speedmod

To all the above posters:
I'll try what zentord suggested. I don't plan on using any other ROM our launcher, of course, as I have settled on what I want.
AOSP and AOKP ROMs are not suitable for a device like the Note because they don't support the S Note and Memo.
Wiping everything for the animation to work properly is not worth it.

Have you eventually resolved this issue without wiping?
I came across this too in S2 with Apex 1.2.5 (pro) on XWLPT and XWLPU stock based ROM.
Would be interested in how you resolved this. If I revert Apex back to version 1.1.0, the animation works perfectly.
There is even an option to change preview animation under Home Screen Settings with version 1.1.0.
However, as soon as play store upgrade it to 1.2.5, that 'preview animation' option disappear and preview animation becomes really chunky.
Revert back to 1.1.0 and it's fine again.
I will try asking the developer to see if this is a known issue, quoting this thread.
It's the icon labels. They eat a lot of performance on both apex and Nova. In Nova launcher it makes my home screen transitions laggy and in apex the overview. I don't use the overview often so I chose apex. If you disable the icon labels everything is butter but that is not something everyone likes.
I hope they fix these issues in the future!

If you click the apex launcer pro in the setting there is a help there that says you can put your apex apk in the system/app, see if it helps, read it yourself there to be sure. I never try it myself because my apex is just fine, do it at your own risk friend.

I believe that was the solution for widgets, not the whole theme, correct?
