ZorroGPS (ZGP) has become avaialbe at http://www.zorrogps.com/US/download.asp for free download and trial for one week. Maps for other countries may be availalbe by clicking on "Your Country" on the upper right corner. ZGP has the dowload version that allows for direct installation onto the Internal Storage of the Diamond. No tweaking is needed. It offers the newest map in the market, NAVTEQ MAPS edition April 2009.
I have installed ZGP in my HTC US Touch Diamond (stock ROM and radio) and tested it. It works very well with the Diamond, no lag of course. Strengths of ZGP include the new map, a lot of functions employing modern technologies in GPS guidance (Expert and Business versions purchased separately but included in the free download/trial version), fast/accurate routing (at least in my area), frequent software updates (May27, Jun03, Jun06, and Jun10 so far; with Jun15 to appear next week), fast lockups of satellites (indoor, too) and extremely responsive helpdesk that has been enthusiastically working with the users in resolving their problems/concerns in a timely fashion. My concerns raised since the May27 version, for example, have been successively accommodated in three June versions released. The dynamic response from ZGP is truly a fresh experience to me after working with the support/serivce departments of several GPS companies over the past decade.
There are several wrinkles that remain to be ironed out, including the 1.6GB download (expanded into 3.01 GB after installation on the internal storage) that will take about 1-1.5 hours to download and install. Much faster software updates only (same maps) will be available in a week, according to the helpdesk. The way in which ZGP has been working with its customers, and their desire of incorporating all the guidance functions adopted in major competitors, is very encouraging and promising.
I can't, no matter what I do, get a decent offnetwork maps program to use with gps location. I had andnav2 working using trekbuddy tiles created in the andnav format and ever since I used the rom (not a cooked rom) I can't seem to do anything correctly. Andnav2 will no longer recognize the tiles I create for it...for some reason the gps consistently, no matter which program I am using, believes I am still at home when I not. I can't find a decent media player that allows me to fastforward aside from MXzing lite but that is constantly trying to use the gps, which is fine if I disable it. My main problem though is the offline maps thing I mentioned above. I just can't get it to work, anymore. Is there ANYONE that is using an offline maps program that allows gps tracking? I don't care about turn by turn nav...I care about having offline maps that will show me my gps location and follow me; which I as I said worked when I first tried but I can't repeat what I've done and the only difference I can see is the new rom. I guess I'll wipe and try the old rom but if I can't use the new rom and have andnav2 work (or any GPS app that will show accurate data) then I give up and will sell the phone to some one on this board....seriously, this shouldn't be this much of a headache when it wasn't before.
CoPilot 8 Live - Perfect - as good if not better than TomTom and much better value for money. Also will move devices with you provided you are still on Android and ask CoPilot to change the codes to link with new device (They did this for me no worries after I swapped my handset) No network needed, and maps stay on SD card. Worth the money.

I 2nd Copilot! IT is really good, and what the android desperatly needed!
can I download entire maptiles for the US and use them offline (no wifi no data plan) and have the gps pin point my location on the offline maps? As I said, andnav was doing this (for free) but now I can't get it to cooperate at all and the developer has abandoned the project. I'm also looking for a decent media player and I thought mxzing would be it until I found that it autoloads at start and constantly accessing the gps for some reason.
I 3rd co-pilot.
A good media player is Meridian Evolve.
I am using Rmaps and I made my own maps using TrekBuddy Atlas Creator.
It is working great and I have the GPS following me very precisely.
But of course it is not a navigation system like CoPilot. It is just an offline map and it is free.
I would go for http://www.sygic.com/index.php/en/android.html when i have some money
You can of course try out CoPilot as with any software from the market an d get an immediate refund if you don't like within 24 hours. Recent copilot update has great improvements including qwerty keyboard!!
I'd say try it out and if its not doing what you want, sell your android. we won't cry.....
I'd love to get Sygic when they include Malaysia into the maps.
IMHO Tomtom is still the best there is.
However both CoPilot 8 and nDrive are both very very good alternatives and both are available for Android from what I've seen/heard.
Tom Tom is good, but you pay a premium for a little extra over the rest. CoPilot IMO is just as good but 1/3 of the price. go figure.
And yes you download the entire maptile pack and use it offline.
Thanks for the suggestions....with a huge sigh of relief after weeks of testing and search, rmaps and meridian are the solutions I needed and thanks to this thread I now have some good alternatives for turn by turn. I have no idea how I missed these two apps in my hours of searching the market but whatever, my torture is over now

I think the one decent person you spoke to at ALK must have left; I've tried to contact them to do this numerous times now and have simply given up on them ever calling / emailing me back. I would not reccomend the product if you expect any kind of customer service from them.
A quick google search shows I'm not the only one fed up with them for precisely this reason, moreover, I don't believe they make it clear at the outset that you cannot transfer the product between devices without doing through them - it's made extremely clear that's the case in the minmo version but not the android one
wher can i dl the capilot application??
thx
google for copilot, or search in the market.

Today (28/06/2011) was released on Android the new "copilot live" based on version 9.
Anyone tried it yet?
Comments on features, compatibility, customization, etc...
wasn't there an online shop earlier ?
I don't want to use google market just for this one app. I know im paranoiac
standard version is 3 bucks for a week..... can't beat that...
For a week? HA! That's awesome, you can use it only when you're on a trip

I'am interested in comments too. I'm using version 8 and happy with that version until now.
I've bought the european premium version yesterday for my HD2 and Galaxy Tab.
As far as I can say already, it is working absolutly brilliant on my HD2, but on GT I have some graphical issues, mostly caused by the 7" resolution.
I haven't had much chance to test the navigation itself but as far I haven't seen any issue beside some missing german translations with HD2 and CoPilot Live 9.
Upgraded from v8 to v9 Premium and glad that I did
When CoPilot v9 was first released, I refused to buy. Because there was no way to transfer my ActiveTraffic subscription and the reviews on Android Market were looking pretty dismal. But ALK came up with an easy way to transfer ActiveTraffic subscription within v9. And I did see some favorable reviews over time, although it seemed most reviewers did not like it.
So I took the leap and purchased CoPilot Live USA Premium (v9 premium). I've used CoPilot Live v8 on WM on my HD2, moved over to CoPilot Live v8 on Android when I switched to running Android late last year. Now that I have v9 Premium myself. I am glad I didn't listen to the nay sayers. The bottom line is this, if you LIKE Copilot v8, you'll likely enjoy v9. And don't get the Standard version unless you want to be limited on features. The Premium version is an upgrade. But if you go from v8 to v9 Standard, you're really going to be taking a downgrade. Because the Standard version does not come with features such as 3D Maps and Text to Speech. V9 has everything built in with the only exception being that you have to transfer or buy an ActiveTraffic subscription, and it also does not come with gas prices. (Gas prices cost an extra $4.99 if you want that. ActiveTraffic cost $9.99 if you don't already have it.) I'm a no ethanol guy, so most places I get gas from don't spend to report gas prices digitally anyway, so I don't need gas prices. And you who have v8 already know the gas price reporting stopped working in v8 long ago.
Upgrading to v9 Premium, I've got all the features I had in v8 and way more. There's now Bing local information you can pull up for an area you're in. It's literally the "Local" features of the Bing app built into CoPilot. It also has Wikipedia information for local attractions. It has a feature to find your parked car. It has a means BUILT IN to the app to report map errors. So now they've made it super easy to report any map errors and get them updated. You point out the error directly on their map and tell them what the error is, hit send and they promise to fix it .
CoPilot never had the world's most up to date maps, you're not going to get anything different in regards to maps from v9. But I do feel the built in means to report map errors will help v9 to get way better than v8 ever was with maps. I've already reported issues in the maps that I've known were in my area. Some issues I never reported before, because it was never this easy to report them before.
You can't import your Favorites or anything from v8 into v9. So with the move to v9 you do have to setup your favorites and such again.
There's a lot more in v9 that I'm not going to type all out here. But I'll be happy to answer questions. I'd recommend if you have v8 that you make the move to v9 while it's still just $9.99.
Using at the moment. Works great
New In Tunnel Mode.
Found out yesterday when I entered a tunnel, that v9 has an "In Tunnel" mode. So you don't get errors about GPS connection being dropped. It tries to estimate your time through the tunnel and continues the moving graphic as if it knows where you are at .
Can any one upload it ?

No. It's not freeware and was not developed by an XDA Developer. So you have to buy it.
Changing to a new device can be a pain with CoPilot
I just upgraded from an HD2 running a NexusHD2 ROM to an HTC Sensation 4G (T-Mobile USA).
I got temp root on the Sensation and restored CoPilot from Titanium Backup. I had already copied the entire copilot app folder from the old SD card, to the SD card in the new device. When I started CoPilot, it was not registered. (That alone was a surprise, since usually on my HD2 no matter the ROM I could restore from Titanium Backup and CoPilot would work.) I tried to register with my CoPilot account and got a message saying that the registration was already with another device and had to be deactivated there before I could activate on the new device. (So I feel they must be storing a unique device ID when you register. And it seems that must be checked in the app every time it's started up.) Given the issues on my old HD2 (Nexus) deactivating was not an option.
I had to contact CoPilot support, tell them my Nexus One is dead and I need my account and license keys freed up so I can use them on the new device (Sensation). They asked for my license keys, which I gave them. They then told me things were freed up and should work, but still nothing would register. Contacted them again, they said they freed things up (again) and to try again. I was able to activate CoPilot, but my Live Traffic subscription would not transfer over. Had to contact them yet again, they freed up the Live Traffic subscription and I was able to transfer that over to the Sensation.
So it took some back and forth, but I finally got everything working. Keep in mind, this thing is a pain when you have to change devices. They really need to improve the method that has to be used when changing devices. But at least their support staff didn't give me a hard time once I explained the situation.
Also it is completely stand-alone... Not using the phone service. I switched too. Love it
Works fine! Have it on my HTC FLyer en HTC HD2 with rom NexusHD2 gingerbread v2.8.
You should be careful though. I bought it when it just came out, and it worked fine for a bit, but after the latest update to 9.1.0.119 it doesn't work anymore, and customer support is non existant. Try and take a look here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/copilotlive/topics
It's their official community driven forum. Just take a look at some of the problems that people are having. Both software based and with the support.
I've always received good support when I open a support ticket with them via their dedicated support ticket page.

I opened a ticket 10 days ago, and got an answer yesterday, and that was just some standard installation procedure mail they sent me. They didn't even bother to read my issues and respond to them.
5 days ago I opened another ticket, demanding a full refund, as the product doesn't work on my phone (which is on their compatibility list btw). They haven't reacted to that as of yet.
And they promise answer within 48 hours.
Understand my frustration now?

Yes, they must hate you .
I submit a ticket and get a respose usually in under 24 hours. And they charge way more for your version of their app than the US version. You'd think I'd be the one waiting...
"transfer" Licence between Devices / ROMs
Attention to all ROM "changers, testers, updaters ...":
in CoPilot Live Premium (v 9) there is no possibility to de-activate the licence to "transfer" the licence to another Device (ROM). You have to contact CoPilot CustomerCare to de-acticate your licence and re-activate it on another Device (ROM).
I use dungphp's Pyramid HTC WWE 1.35.401.1 - Real 3D [V2.3][RAF 1.9GB] and had this Problem while upgrading from 2.2 to 2.3. Normally, I chnage the setup-script so it will not delete my personal stuff and settings - but this time I deleted everything to do a clean update. CoPilot won't activate after this again!
So I contacted CoPilot CustomerCare about this. I get an answer within 12 Hours, that they have de-activated my licence in i can activate it again. I asked them where I can de-activate my licence before i change the ROM - the answer was, that there is no possibility to de-activate the licence within the software - you have to de-activate your licence over CoPilot CustomerCare.

Use Titanium Backup. You can backup before flashing a different ROM and when you restore to the new ROM you'll have everything working just fine and activated.
Hi guys..
i live in india....i would like to buy Htc HD7....i have few doubts...can someone clarify(those who uses hd7 in india)..i am switching from Android to WP7
1. Tell me about Zune... how well it works in india....asking about updates and syc with vids and songs..also about air syc....also tell me about zune pass..(since we don't have any contract with network...how we can update the updates from MS)
2. i would like to know about xbox live...how well it works in india?
3. ms exchange syc...how well it works? i am frequent flyer so i need to syc frequently to update my office mails.
4. how about the market place....is it all the apps visible....since my android phone does not show everything...
5. how about the bing map...is it covered all the cities in india?
hope to see your answers...thanks in advance.
cheers
Surprised...no one is helping or answering .....or i don't know no one is using hd7 from india...
lets wait...
i have ordered HD7 through ebay...lets see.
cheers
I dunno If this helps
I recently got an HD7, my old HD2 (running android) broke so my carrier was willing to give me a brand new HD7 at a discounted rate.
1. Tell me about Zune... how well it works in india....asking about updates and syc with vids and songs..also about air syc....also tell me about zune pass..(since we don't have any contract with network...how we can update the updates from MS)
The zune software is just a means to sync your music, videos and podcasts between your device and the computer. It's not carrier specific so it doesn't matter what type of plan you have, you should be able to update the software on your phone. I think zune pass and air sync are not carrier specific aswell
2. i would like to know about xbox live...how well it works in india?
Again, it's not carrier specific, so there shouldn't be any problems
3. ms exchange syc...how well it works? i am frequent flyer so i need to syc frequently to update my office mails.
It works well, but I don't think it's "push" based, like android's gmail app, so you'll have somewhat of a delay from when the email reaches your account and when it actually gets synced to your phone
4. how about the market place....is it all the apps visible....since my android phone does not show everything...
I'll be in mangalore in a few days, I'll get more info about that for you... If you had a rooted android phone you should've have been privy to all the apps in the android marketplace
5. how about the bing map...is it covered all the cities in india?
Not sure, I'll get back to you on that
Sadly, I'm not a fan of this Windows OS, it may be a touch smoother than the Android OS, but it just doesn't seem powerful enough.
hey thanks xxvtcxx ....it was great help....i understood after reading your description....thanks for spending time for me...
Actually almost a year i was using android phone.....few things i felt very sad...
1. not able to udate the latest version like other phones...i could manage to update unofficial versions...but didn't work as official version.
2. its very slow...more than 2 year i was using iphone..it was better in speed....but speed of the android hurts more.
3. its not stable...some days it works fine some days not......slow hangs in between and restarts automatically...
4. i have rooted my phone but i am not able to see or add the black market applications...
after seeing some of the review of hd7.... i was impressed....so i though i can try...
once again i would like to say my thanks...also i would like to know which network provider gave you hd7?
cheers
From an HD7 user
Hi,
I live in Nagpur, India and use an HD7.
So some updates:
1. Zune works perfectly fine.
You can see the apps on the marketplace only if you have the latest version i.e. Mango, but it is available only to developers currently, but there is a hack for Zune on desktop through which you can install apps, its no biggie.
XBOX live works perfectly fine.
BING maps are pretty good, very detailed, even for Nagpur. But the local businesses are not mapped out, you can download a Google maps app and work with them though.
MS Exchange will work fine for your scenario.
Let me know if you have more specific questions.
Great help manishkungwani....i am now very clear about xbox , zune and market...thanks for your detailed descriptions....your help much much appreciated.
Cheers
