I find here this emmc bug is killing everyone.
I bought this GN just 2 weeks ago.at begining it came with GB installed.i recieved ota update in the same day for ics.so i did it.
After updating i did factory reset the device without knowing that there is a danger to damage the device.
Then i tried to root and installed some other kernels with cwr, which was another mistake.and finally flash it again with stock rom.but this time no wipe!
So the phone is not in clean state.
I read that one way to avoide damaging the device is to flash it with GB rom and then wipe then flash it again with ics one.all by pc odin.
But my problem is i cant find the original GB Rom to do it.
Is it important to flash with original or i can do it with any stock GB rom?
And is there any kernel based on stock kernel which has no mod no tweak and stuff but safe to wipe?i mean with mmc earase disabled.

Here's the link where you can find stock GB (Courtesy of doc Ketan) ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 Find your Stock ROM (based on your region)
Let me clear out some wrong notions spreading before.... you can safely WIPE your phone even on ICS as long as you have installed a safe kernel on to your device. You don't necessarily need to go to STOCK GB and do the wipe from there. It is already safe WIPING your phone on ICS just as long as you have the safe kernel installed on your phone.
Safe kernels to mentioned are SpeedMod, HardCore (that is if your in ICS), AbyssNote (if your still on stock GB)
Again no stock GB rom from my country.funny i went to samfirmware before and nothing there also.but for other region there are many!
Current ROM is N7000XXLRI
Which is the only FW from my region.

If you can't find any stock GB from your region then don't fret , Download a direct rootable ROM closest to your region and flash it from there. Remember, your goal is not to say long in GB right? so after you've downloaded a direct rootable GB ROM.. Download back your stock ICS ROM thru PC Odin, ROOT it thru Doc Ketan's thread still and then do a FACTORY wipe after.
P.S. Don't worry about the triangle mark on your boot up screen. You can safely remove that thru ChainFire's TriangleAway app (when your rooted already)
I'll try this.
After all, what do you suggest as a daily driver rom or kernel on GN which is safe and stable to flashing wiping and stuff?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I'm using stock LRQ (for now), but I've cooked it and made some big modifications to the ROM itself and now everything's working and my phone ''flies'
For the kernel.. SpeedMod is my truly one option... Stability and battery performance... It never fails on me still.... Any cooked ROMs I'm making or flashing one from our good ROM cookers here on this forum.. This kernel is still my best bet... but hey... this just me okay... if you want other safe kernels out there, feel free to try them out... it's your choice anyway...

Hydracore can be used on all ICS and JB roms (TW, CM and AOKP) another is Speedmod for TW ICS roms, these two are safe and can be used as per your rom. Most of the roms are stable now, it totally depends on you, which one suits your requirements
Edit- letters_to_cleo your invisible status always confuse me, lol.

Cm kernels will not work with tw based roms, only with aokp/aosp, and vice versa. You'll have to read up on the kernel pages themselves on which rom types they support.
So flash to gb first, perform full wipe, root and install cwm, then you can install custom kernels and roms from there. Never install from ics kernel, only downgrade to gb to be safe.

Most of the rom files split down into three files but If you place the original tar file into pda, odin sorts out the partitions correctly for you.
All stock gb kernels are safe from emmc superbrick bug, safe to perform wipes.

You can't flash another ROM from any ICS-based ROM. Some Samsung ICS kernels cause a so called brick bug, which causes your device to brick (read: it won't boot anymore) because Samsung ****ed something up with the internal memory. If you do a full wipe while on a stock or aosp ROM, you risk bricking your device.
The fastest way (it's not really fast tho) to flash other ROM's at this moment is to revert back to a gingerbread rom, root it, get CWM (clockworkmod recovery) and flash your ROM from recovery or odin, whatever you like.
You're now on a ICS based rom (CM9), which means if you attemt to flash another rom now and you need to do a full wipe, chances are you'll end up with a bricked phone.
Try the "revert back to Gingerbread" method to be sure you will not brick your device. There are plenty of tutorials around here to help you along with this method.

No, it needs to be flashed with cwm. You'll get an unsigned zip error if you try with mobile odin and flash will fail. Follow instructions on all roms and you won't have any problems.

Woah im a lucky guy that i havent bricked my note.
Hello,
Right now, my Galaxy Note is running a rooted version Samsung ICS:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version: 3.0.150N7000XXLPY-CL474507
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPY
I'd like to try CM10, but I've been reading a lot of issues from people flashing ROMs from Samsung ICS. What would be the safest way to install CM10? Should I downgrade to a Samsung Gingerbread ROM first? What procedure would you guys recommend?
Thanks,
Tiago
It is important to downgrade first to samsung stock GB.

you can flash the pre rooted GB rom by Chainfire...then flash the cf kernel....do a full wipe and then just flash CM10. Find the procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Go to section 1.3 and u find the way....hope it helps....:good:
Flash it to stock GB
here's the other link for the video.. again all courtesy to the creator of that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc
There's also the links of the ROM (choose checkROM GB or RocketROM) and the kernel you need to download.
Just follow his video bud, (I'm following his video for flashing roms and I never miss going back to this video to downgrade to GB)
Cheers!
I see. So flashing Abyss kernel from Samsung ICS (LPY kernel) using CWM is actually safe? I just want to be sure because I've seen many people advising not to use CWM at all if you are on a Samsung ICS ROM.
abysskernel is not an infected kernel, that is why mostly when your going to downgrade to gingerbread.. most flashers will tell you to flash first to abysskernel then flash the GB rom after.

OK, I flashed Abyss kernel (worked fine), rebooted recovery, made a full wipe, flashed Rocket ROM and rebooted the system. I see the boot animation, but after that, nothing happens (blank screen). I've waited over 5 minutes, but the ROM doesn't boot. Anything else I can try?
I'm f*cking tired of explaining this over and over again...MY GOD!! You could've just read the CM9 installation instructions, CHECKED OUT THE STICKIES, ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
THE ONLY 100% SAFE WAY TO GET RID OF AN INFECTED KERNEL IS TO FLASH TO GB THROUGH PC ODIN!! Why the F*CK does everyone prefer to flash abyss and take that risk...!?
IF!! You're confident that RocketRom flashed correctly, you could probably full wipe (AGAIN) from recovery (you'd be on a safe kernel) and that should solve your problem...
Wait for a 2nd opinion though...

Hello, Im on jellybam and I get games little laggy. I done full instal, full wipes, full formats. Everything is clean. And I heard that ICS stock ROM is for best performance and games running very smooth. Is that true? If yes, which one Stock rom I have to install. Im from Lithuania, East Europe. Do I need first downgrade to GB and then write ICS? Or easiest way would be flash GB and try upgrading vie Kies?
I was on JellyBam and have went back to a stock-based rom, but I installed Sammy stock roms first. The process is simple...
1) Download GingerBread rom for your model from here
2) Get Odin, and follow the instructions on the thread to flash GB.
3) You can now either download a stock ICS rom from that thread, or do an OTA update, it's up to you. Using Odin will not increase the counter as it is an official rom.
4) Flash ICS using Odin/OTA
5) DO NOT WIPE ON ICS UNLESS USING A SAFE KERNEL. Personally, I'd go for Philz kernel, so download it and follow the instructions on that thread.
All you need to make sure is to be on a safe kernel whilst on ics. So you can flash ics using odin and the install a safe kernel and do a reset to get going.

Re: Help.... Firmware frenzy,
Make a backup with titanium but dont restore system data or settings only user apps.
Flash a kernel from philz the 4.88.4 is the latest i know of. Then flash whatever rom you like.
When flashing the rom the kernel will also be overwritten.
Rr v12 ics is fast and stable. I always used hydracore 4.3b oc.
Or try a samsung original jb rom but flash a philz kernel after the rom to get root.
The choice is up to you.

If you're on a safe firmware try installing cm9. You'll love it. It's quite stable and it's way faster than the touchwiz bloatware

Thanks but Cm9 not for me.. Haven't a good experience in my i9003 and game and app compatibility is usually a lil risky.
I guess I'll try to go for the philz kernel JB route and if you have aosp rom in mind lemme know..

I would say if you want to use a custom jelly bean rom then i will recommend you slim bean instead of cm 10.1
If u want a good ics custom rom them cm9 is for you
For tw based ics custom rom, Criskelos rom is the best touch wiz rom.

The Most amazing AOSPA ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115167
I had used it, but I wanted some AOKP mods, so i shifted to the AOKP version of it.
The Dev is constantly updating this with more and more goodies. Give it a try
