480p, It is useless to watch 720p video on a 480p screen....
On youtube it is another story, the bitrate of youtube 480p is too low to be consider as "clear video"
But If you would converting a video, 480p & video bitrate between 300 (low) to 1800 is the range of our x8 without any lag

[Q] Galaxy Tab wifi Only dont want play any 720p video

Hi everyone.
I am a user of a Galaxy Tab Wifi only Euro version (gt-p1010).
My problem is:
I can't play any mkv/mp4/wmv file in 720p with the stock player or others (rockplayer, arcsoft, etc). I tried several files (more than 15 files).
It's very stange because in the box yo can read that it can play HD video (only 720p).
Can anyone have this issue in my model "wifi only"?
Thanks
Wifi tab's graphics chip is weaker than gsm/cdma tabs'. Try playing low profile videos

720p is actually quite generic. My guess, based on the picture you posted, is that it can handle 720p in mp4, like for example a 720p divx but not the most common type of hd video: h264. That one requires plenty of power, and so far no mobile device can handle it if decoded via raw cpu power, even the P1000 can't... and that's where hardware decoding comes in to save the day.

Thanks¡¡¡¡ You're absolutely right.
After your answer, I've tried to play some files in h264 ( resolution between 720p or lower and 720p divx / xvid).
The results have been very enlightening.
The "galaxy tab only wifi model" can decode 720p if the file is NOT H264.
With that compression the galaxy's stock player cant play any file(At very low resolutions they can play via software decoder in rockplayer at +-30fps).

In Quadrant, there is a part where it tests the H.264 decoding of the CPU (at least on my GT-P1000, there is)
Takes my device about 6 seconds to finish @ 1400mhz

Uh, consider a better custom rom or kernel: takes two seconds or less on mine clocked @ 1ghz.

Galaxy Tab not only can play h.264 720P mp4 files, but also can play 1080P h.264 mp4 videos.
this is my test video file: http://hotfile.com/dl/115124852/a85f679/1080p_30000bitrate.mp4.html
Edit: I am lucky, I have bought GT p1000, not galaxy tab only wifi model

Guys I'm having problems playing MKV files on my Galaxy Tab. If I use the standard player, Vital Player or RockPlayer the quality is absolutely OUTSTANDING, but no sound!
Whereas apxf888's mp4 file works a treat.
Any suggestions?

[Q] Video watching screen resolution

What's the optimum size resolution for watching videos on Xperia X8
What I mean is that I convert my HD videos into a 320x240 resolution to view it on my phone. I convert because my stock video app does not let me play those "big screened" videos. But both the audio and video quality decreases considerably.
I don't wish to use any 3rd party app to watch those HD videos , rather watch them on stock app (Converting into small resolution saves me disk space as well )
What screen resolution should I use to watch good video quality on my X8 ??
Also , any tip to improve audio quality ?
Specs :
Xperia X8
GingerDx V021
Stock Kernel
you can try on 480*320 resolution at bit rate of 1082(around) and 25frames/second and in audio 93kbps bit rate and 48kHz sample rate.
hope this will help you....
P.S. - you are using a custom rom right? so why don;t use try something like MX Video Player? so far it seems to be a good player on stock 2.1 for me. (just sharing my experience mate )
I watch mp4 videos at resolution 640x360 with the mx video player..
I try convert any blueray film with :
- video : H.264, 480*320, 25 fps, 900 kbps bit rate
- audio : aac, 44100 Hz, 2 channel, 128 kbps bit rate
smooth and clear playing in my x8..
try wondershare video converter.. you can googling it.. cheers..

[Q] hd videos 1080p freeze

hi i recently purchased my lg optimus 2x in general i am very happy with my smartphone the only issue i have is when i try to play hd 1080p videos either with mx player or mobo the videos go very slow i tried the same thing on a samsung galaxy s2 and the videos worked flawlesly any recomendations how to fix that issue?
did you install mx player codecs for tegra 2? (you have them on play store as well)
yes i installed MX Player Codec (ARMv7) these are the ones anything else i can't believe that i am the only one who is experiencing this problem
Same problem... Codecs are installed for tegra 2 but video framerate is catastrophic.

Try to clear memory, hold home button then 'stop all'.
You made the mistake of buying this phone.
Anyway try Dice player, I find it superior to all other players

Did you try with standard LG Fotocamera? I never had fullhd problems with froyo/GB/CM7/ICS
Nvidia tegra 2 cannot decode x264 or h264 formats @ 1080P resolution. Try converting the videos to MPEG-4 @ 1080 Resolution.

Yes, i do encode and decode movies. SO AFAIK, tegra 2 cannot decode h264 codec.
Tegra 2 can decode 1080p coded in low profile. Medium and commonly used high profile are not supported. You can google what choices you can set up to have low profile video. Very good SW for recoding videos is handbrake. I wish you good luck with searching best encode configuration.
i downloaded the iron man 2 trailer 1080p hd video here's the LINK
i'm using mx player, temasek final build rom and stefan final symbiosis kernel
the video is sluggish to play and the sound is not matching when stark open his mouth for now i didn't using ICS rom or cm10
i also try to play the video in different decoder included on the mx player but it doesn't work
You can run 720p or 1080p fluid.. spawndk from the eepad transformer forum:
"The Tegra2 chipset are designed as a mobile sollution chipset - to support web 2 standards. The highest encoding profile used here (Youtube 1080p) are 1080p baseline and this the Tegra2 chipset will both record and play with no troubles. As well as 720p baseline and main profile - but only upto L3.1 with some limitations. It doesnt matter which container is used (mkv, mp4, m4v, avi etc) and it doesnt matter if resolution are 1080p - its only a matter of the encoding profile used to encode the supported video format H264
Tegra2 will NEVER be able to decode High profile L4.1 encodes - it's not a software issue, neither in terms of Honeycomb or Nvidia libs, its simply a limitation of the abilities of the hardwaredecoder in the Tegra2 chipset and this will never change. It is also not a limitation in the Transformer specifically, but a limitation in ALL Tegra2 based tablets and mobilephones.
This is the same reason why some mediaplayers like the Boxee Box that was originally intended to use the Tegra2 moved on to an Intel chipset before launch.
In short the Tegra2 chipset will support playback of videos encoded in 1080p or 720p resolution, using the H264 video codec and AAC audio codec - as long as the video are encoded after the baseline profile standard
It will not now or ever - play 1080p/720p encodes encoded after the high profile standard."
So basically, you have to reencode videos just like on ipad..
you should reencode to low profile, high profile is for blu-ray device or PC. don't know maybe exynos 5 can play high profile [email protected] with handheld.
Thread moved. Please post all question threads here in Q&A in future where they belong.
Thanks

I only recently started watching movies on my phone. DVDrip avi files work smoothly and have pretty good quality too. The 720p mp4 files don't work too good. The audio lags and sometimes the video too. Only minor lags but its still irritating. And you probably wouldn't even notice the difference avi and mp4.
i cant but no problem for this
720p video play well in 844mhz and performance governer but 1080p video lags a lot... but able to play all video... but lags hd...
720p works for me..... thanks...

[Q] Can it play high bitrate 1080p videos?

I am thinking of getting this phone. I would like to know if it can play high bitrate MKV/MP4/TP/TS video files (like music videos of 1GB size). Anyone tried this yet?
I would also like to know if it can handle 10bit videos as well though I think this will be based on the app/player....
Thanks!
4sashi got loads of HQ music videos which you can try
Video quality in this phone is satisfactory. I'm playing some 1080 HD videos/movies with MX player and Movies app with no problems so far... Out of topic..can you give me a site which has HD quality pictures?
Sorry i dont have a site for that. Would you mind if you download something from the bluray mvs from 4sashi and try it out in sp?
cmon guys
need your help on this
The 1080p videos recorded by the SP are of 20mbps bitrate (much higher than most movies/tv episodes) and they play back just fine
I watched some game of thrones 1080p episodes, 2.2gb in size each and they played fine

You can play videos with 40mbps bitrate,
but 1080p 60fps videos are freezing and bouncing on stock player
i am really interested to know if it can handle music videos (1 gigabytes in file size)....
I have a couple of TS and TP files with file sizes of 1-2 gigabytes and based on media info, they have an average of 36000kbps bit rate. (note they are only music videos of around 3-5 minutes in length)
i am just too lazy to convert my video files thats why i am asking this.
even my e8400 is suffering from frame skips when trying to play them :cyclops:
anyways im off to check this phone for myself hehe

ok so i went ahead got this phone
it just cant play some of my videos hehehe
i used mxplayer by the way
oh well just need to convert them again...
thanks guys
still i am quite satisfied with this phone
now i need to root my phone..... and some other stuff
Plays 1080p
I have Xperia SP,I've tested a couple 1080p videos that I downloaded,ran them pretty well;no problems

I've had a Galaxy mini 2 and I rooted and unrooted it,but My new SP;don't think that I'm gonna root it
After a year using this phone...
1-Support 720p & 1080p up to 40Mbps bitrate(BluRay.ts using MX player with custom codec)
2-Support 720p at 60fps without lagging both on MX player or Stock player (Bravia might not working,Work only on first 10 second)
