[Q] ROM+Firmware update for my I9000. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I own SGS I9000 for a long time now and I use Simply Honey 5.1 ROM for over a year now with Android 2.3.4 firmware.
I am willing to update my device after all this time and I really dont know what changed in all this time I wasn't updated.
So, what is the latest and bestest firmware out there available for the SGS i9000?
Also i'd like to here what ROM will you recommand me.
I want speed, battery power and smoothness. I dont care about design. Language: English.
Thank you.

?.

It depends on what android version you want... GB, ICS, JB???

The newest one...?
I dont know what fits my SGS..

I use CM9 stable (4.0.4) with Semaphore Kernel, but the battery life isn't so great. Before, i used CM7 stable 2.3.7 and had no problems.
If you want another rom, you can use SLIM ICS; it's very good, also

OK, thanks.
Any more thoughts?

[Q] POLL- Favorite Galaxy N7000 Rom & Why

Whats YOUR favorite Galaxy Note N7000 Rom?
Ice-Cream Sandwhich or Gingerbread Roms?
I personally use MidNote ICS ROM & Abyss Kernel. I like it a lot i just haven't tried any others yet.
The only non-stock rom I've tried is the AOSP by imilka, and I'm pleased with it.
GINGERBREAD. My own rom, I call it noob rom.
imilka aosp tablet mode v 6,my favourite rom!

Few users here were kind enough to guide me. May be I'll write a guide in general section.
There's nothing in my rom; just stock, deodex, pdroid and thunderbolt.
GB, Pure stock (Root+CWM), Latest
Midnote 1.6 with abyss kernel...love it.

Imilka's AOSP ROM. Why ? Because TouchWiz sucks. Stock ICS is what i was aiming for while getting my Note - and Imilka's ROM gives pure stock experience.

You on LC2? Any noticeable difference with LC1?
I like them all Checkrom, Criskelo, Kingdroid and My favourite rom RocketRom since its my first custom rom flashed into my Note.

None, at least not using stock ICS's software.
Criskelo all the way it's knows for stability, great performance and really nice implemented themes. best for everyday use when we can't allow ourselves for freezes, reboots etc.
Rom is updated only when it makes sense, for example when new firmware brings some changes, some roms are updated just to show off, it can be tiresome for ppl that aren't flash addicts

Both work on imilka's AOSP v7.
LC1 deodexed & rooted. Have tried a few ICS roms but they aren't quite there yet imo.

I've been using MidTeam 1.0 there's no ICS kernel so far but i can say its a great rom and i'm testing ALBa's rom and is quite the same, quadrant gives pretty much same score, the difference could be the theme, MidTeam is more ICS and ALBa's more GB, both are ICS 4.0.3 both full TW working, S PEN and apps are working as they should be.

Just trying out Stunner from Criskelo, love Criskelo's for stability. Stunner is stable so far with awesome customization. Just really miss s-memo, have the substitutes but if that could be added ( i know it cant) would be perfect
havent tried neither criskelo's nor stunner's which one is the one with amazing customizaions that you point out? Care to mention a couple of them?
Thanks buddy

[Q] Any Updates on 4.0.4

Hi,
I am looking for 4.0.4 ICS on Samsung Notes. As wedget and task handling is more simple and easy to use, also if it comes with SVoice that will be great.
Suggest me any Rom with 4.0.4 (Stable Version) for SGN. or any best launcher. At presently I am on ICS (rooted) 4.0.3 with XXLPY KERNAL.

Only CM9 roms are on 4.0.4 at the moment mate. Try them out, if you can live without Samsung apps and s-memo they are perfect.

slim ics 4.2 with seapahore kernel......
stable,lag free with excellent battery.....
Another thread with the same question! ICS333 in my experience is the best, though slim is one of the few I haven't tried!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
I'd also root for Slim, faster than CM9 in my experience and never disappointed me. No need to flash Semaphore though IMO, the stock kernel also is working great.
I dont own the S1 anymore, but before i sold it, i have used "DarkyROM". This was the best ROM i've ever used. Fast, stable and good.
I i would the S1 again, i would install DarkyROM again.
RemICS v1.3
I use it daily and it's wonderful...
I would say cm9 with devil kernel.
I used TeamICSSGS' rom. Was very happy with it but today swapped it for Jelly bean.
for crying out loud, there's about 5 threads like this now .....why don't you people just read? ! :banghead::banghead::banghead:
Well said slappy....
In addition to it, dont ask which one is good as the one good for someone wont fit in your case so best answer it just test roms until you find the one for you ;-)

I want to flash CM 9 nightly build. Which version should i choose? Which is a stable build for daily use?
Also if i want to flash Slim ICS is it mandatory to flash CM9 first?
current ROM - Value pack 2.3.6
Kernel - CF root kernel.
Best and best looking is RemICS!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687727
very smooth and best design of all ICS roms, for me

Get CM9 RC2 which has been released today. Its stable version.
You can directly install Slim ICS. There is no need to install CM9 before installing Slim ICS.

Darky rom ONLY does official Samsung ROMs... since ICS was never officially released for the i9000 , there is no Darky ICS rom for the galaxy S...
Edit: OK so it seems after Darky Rom split and the others formed TeamAlliance, Darky has decided to make AOSP ROMs as well while Alliance doesn't...
Therefore cdwriter was right... there is a Darky ICS...

Best ICS ROM?
I have tried almost ALL the ICS Roms out there. And i can confidently say that i have found AOKP to be the baddest of 'em all. Not even CM9 mind you.
Make sure you use the NEW DataFix script by Windego (the 20120524) and NOT the older one (20120329).
Use the ROM with Devil Kernel (0.79 version) Choose Voodoo Colors or CMC, your choice. Before flashing this kernel, make sure you remove the already included init.d datafix script. (Open the package in WinRAR, navigate to system > etc > init.d > remove file named "S30dafafix)

Yes, DarkyRom is on of the best roms... Hope that Darky will make a JB rom soon
You can try SLIM ICS by karvind. The ROM is pretty fast, smooth and stable. I was using it till Build 4.1 and I switched to JB

You do not have much of an options. There are 3-4 ROMs for our phone. It will not be too much to try, and see it yourself.
P.S. I use JetMOD.

Hope I helped

I use apex launcher and everything is so smooth. Games are working ok, played MC4 with solid performance, there were some lags, but not much.
Hey ! I have tried every single rom for JB which is out here. I'm most pleased with Chuckyrom as well as Supressed rom. Currently i'm with Chuckybean master rom V10 and with CoCore 5. The stats i get on benchmarks are great.
P.S I saw that you've just bought your phone. My concern is if you haven't noticed wheather it's i9070 or i9070P because if it's P nothing will work for you
Cheers :highfive:
JB JellyMod + CoCore Kernel
I use JellyMod 3.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170925
Cocore Kernel 5.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140597
I've just flashed yesterday!
JellyMOD 4.0 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170925
It was already with the Siri Kernel- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931478
The smartphone is now more quickly when switching between menus and apps, more playable than 4.1 stock rom

Ow, thanx for the attention =]
I was with a Xperia Neo V before with a custom rom too and now with i9070, i've bought 4 months ago, i guess, xD. I was going to wait 'till the end of warranty but i just can't keep it with default rom and lots of bloatware!
BTW, i've downgraded to gingerbread last weekend, using stock rooted rom with the Cocore 1.5 mini kernel. I need to study and learn about the I/O schedules and governors, etc
I use JellyMOD 4.0 with ThunderZap 4.1 as Kernel. I very like the JellyMOD Design and the Ink effekt addon. This ROM is based on Chuckybean v9 an is very smooth and stable. The Battery Life is also ok.

Recommend me a rom

Hello, i'm currently in need of speed for my old "warhorse" S
So let's begin. The reasons why i'm needing new rom and stuff are those that my phone is lagging all the time no matter which rom i'm using and so on.
For now, im looking for baserom that is possible to flash with odin, good kernel, and rom that has speed and stability. And yeah, it won't matter if the rom is Gingerbread or ICS or JB, i prefer JB but now im looking for speed so i guess JB won't be fastest.
At the moment im running with RemICS JB v6 with Mackay kernel.
Happy weekend for everybody!
Maybe CM10.1
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
I would recommend slimbean 4.2.2 build 8 with devil kernel for 4.2 builds (not the latest for 4.3).
And with a lil bit of customization and greenify, it's awesome!!!
I recommend SauROM, my previous JB rom f**ed up so I had to Odin my phone.
I must say that it is faster than any JB rom and has a good camera, fast launcher and is stable.

Be warned that installing any 4.1+ ROM will make your phone unable to multitask as there is not sufficient ram. However, you do get enhanced speed and responsiveness, plus more customization options.

CM10.1.3 and devil kernel
Use gamerzrom Legend edition or Mackey Rom 4.2.2 for smoothness and stablity. If you want feature rich ROM then use Roms by Aways or try DU ROM
