Can someone please help me out? I am wanting to install a custom boot animation. I downloaded one from this forum and renamed it to bootanimation.zip. I place on my memory card then used Root Explorer to move it to /system/media. I rebooted the phone but no animation comes up.

Galaxy S phones don't use bootanmation.zip they use a proprietary format QMG or something.
Thanks for the quick reply.
any luck??? I have been all over different forums trying to figure this out with zero luck....

negative.. Gunnyman stated it perfectly.. I researched for hours trying to figure out how to decode the QMG format into frames.. and met with no success.
I'm digging into QMG tonight. If there are mac tools for editing them I'll work on it.
please do, I would really like the boot animation from jh2 (not the S breaking into pieces and rebuilding, but the blue and purple shine that runs though it a couple of times.
super sexy imo.

I'm sure you could purchase the tools for several thousands of dollars from the proprietor, Quram Soft.
The price isn't even available on their web site, http://quramsoft.com/solution_e/qmage.asp
The name of the QMG format is Qmage, I've been unable to ascertain if our phones use Qmage or Qmage - F.
See Topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736412 for all the information that we have on boot animations, shut down animations, and sounds.
actually, you can do the bootanimation.zip, one of my co-workers was messing with it today... you probably need to set the permissions on the zip correctly.

i know how you feel my poor phone is only 4 days old. day one 1.2.2a, day two 1.2.3, day 4 1.2.3a lol
After I showed my rooted NC to my brother he had to have one. He went out the day after xmas and bought one, handed it to me and asked me to work my stuff on it.
The problem is that I rooted it with my gmail credentials and now I can't change that or delete them in any way. I did add his, but mine can not be deleted as far as I can see.
Any help? Is a factory reset and re-root the only way I can do this?
Thanks,
Steve
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877195
That should contain the information you need, though I think most people have simply been re-rooting. Also, the apps you installed through Market are tied to your Google account, so if you change to his, I *think* you'll lose access to your paid apps.
I ended up doing a factory reset and then re rooted the NC.
Nothing else would work.

For weeks i have been trying to solve the not working WIFI problem i have been having. I searched around a found a solution an just sharing it here and hoping that it will be easier to find and figure out cz i went through alot to find it.
First you will have to root your device by following this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227938
Next download and install Root Explorer from here http://www.appsapk.com/root-explorer/
Download the Wifi fix file here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2309737&d=1381197765
Put both Root Explorer and the Wifi Fix File on your memory card or phone memory.
Install Root Explorer and grant permissions when asked after opening it.
Copy the Wifi Fix File from wherever it is on the memory card or phone memory and browse to directory (still using Root Explorer) and search for persists folder.
Paste the Wifi Fix File there
Restart phone.
If after restarting the wifi still not working, use RSD and install stock firmware, However it should work.
Any questions, u can ask me, i will be glad to help.
I'm glad it is working now for you!

Have you rooted your phone and install root explorer yet? You cannot find persists folder in non-rooted phone.
is this for stock rom?
Also, what exactly is this supposed to fix?

yes I did that... but persist folder was still not available... I installed some LewaOS ROM and this issues was resolved.... I was still not able to see persist folder in root explorer...
I installed tictactoe version 2.5 ROM and everything was working till I noticed that SIM is not working... :crying:
Now I checked IMEI # and it shows null.... It seems I'm in big trouble as I'm not able to install any of the STOCK ROMS and I didn't take backup of my phone... Please help me...

Thanks for replying bro... It seems experts are too busy to comment..
As I never faced a problem in rooting and installing new ROM's I didn't take a backup of stock ROM... (My biggest mistake)
If I install any of the available STOCK ROMs using SP tools, it bricks my phone...(it doesn't start) I followed advise for unbricking using SP tools and it worked to bring back my phone.... But now if I install any of the available ROMS, either FrontCam, SIM, WIFI etc doesn't work.... (only one of these services dont' work, if wifi works in a ROM SIM might not work... )
Thank you very much
I was fighting with it for HOURS.
The solution works perfectly by using the WCNSS file on the brazlian RAZR HD (running paranoid 4.4.x)
used terminal emulator and unix comands (chmod and chown) as explained in the previous post's and voilá!
Do I need to extract the zip? Or just put the zip there?
Edit: got it we need to put the file

this entirely fixed it for me thank you again! - now, only questions i have, once restarted should we then rm the file ? or keep it in /persist folder? because it's still in there..... also, if format/factory or future custom roms, is this a permanent wifi fix? and lastly, what exactly caused this issue in the first place, and what does this file do exactly to resolve it?
thanks again!!

Hello to everyone!
First of all, english is not my native language, so please forgive my bad english
Here is my current problem:
I was working around with my new Kindle Fire HD 7'' (v. 11....), rooted it succesfully, everything was running smoothly.
So i was reading my way through some new posts in here on how to remove and get rid off the commercials on the Kindle.
One comment I saw was suggesting the following:
"You will need to have root access first.
Remount /system as read/write
Enter /system/app and rename or delete dtcp* (forgot the rest of the name.
Reboot
Enjoy."
After reading this, I did exactly what the user was suggesting and proceeded to delete both files I found in the "add"-folder beginning with "dtcp".
After doing this, my Kindle already started throwing some errors, so I went on to rebooting the device.
After that, I came into my current situation, with a red triangle showing up, offering me to reset the device to factory settings, which doesn't help me either. I'm basically stuck in a boot-loop atm.
I would really appreciate any help with this and thanks in advance!!
Greetings
You need a fastboot cable to fix it, you have to reflash the system partition with kindle fire first aid once it is in fastboot.

Don't know what you did but you will have to wait and see if the bootloader gets any exploits because you have to factory reset that way now. I suggest you see if you can get an exchange. Amazon is great about that. There are no other options for you at at the moment.

Alright thanks a ton for the advice.
I got in touch with Amazon support over chat, and the person talking to me was making almost an interrogation out of it since I think they were suspecting that I had bricked the Kindle by rooting it or something similar. But in the end they decided to send me a replacement device.
In addition, they told me I'd get notice from them as soon as they get to examine the state of the old Kindle. You think I'll have to expect any consequences of this if they get to figure out I bricked it by deleting something on root-level which I wasn't supposed to delete?
I just hope they won't make a big deal out of it.... :/ I just hope they won't say I voided the warranty and make me pay for the repair or something

Not likely. They will most likely check for signs of physical damage and send it back to China. I don't think they have scoping capabilities at the return center.
Oh my bad I didn't see the version 11 part in the op, yea those steps I posted are kinda invalid on a 3rd gen kindle.

**** happens. But I think it would be nice if you could correct yourself in the mentioned post so that we can avoid other people to follow the instructions as well and brick their Kindles that way
But besides that, any idea why my Kindle got bricked just by deleting those 2 files that, afaik, only belong to the Amazon-ads-app?
Is it because the app is actually signed, which they introduced with the 3rd gen Kindles?
If that's the reason, that's pretty dumb from Amazon in my opinion, forcing those ads that hard
Greetings
Hey everyone. Just decided to post this for anyone using the wonderful RaptorRom by LarryBoyG that would like AOSP lock screen for whatever reason.
Get a root enabled file manager such as ES File Manager
Go into system/priv-app
Rename HTClockscreen.apk to HTClockscreen.apk.bac
Rename HTClockscreen.odex to HTClockscreen.odex.bac
Reboot system
There you go aosp lock screen

I did, but that was a couple of days ago. Also, I noticed I actually have 3 files
1)HtcLockScreen.apk.bac (the ? kind)
2)HtcLockScreen.odex.bac (the ? kind)
3HtcLockScreen.apk_bac (the ? kind)
the first one (apk) I changed to.bac
second on I changed odex.bac
the last one (#3) was there like that and I left it as is
Not sure why and not sure if I should get rid of one and if so which one. Hmm
Maybe I will switch back, and try again from the beginning. Bummer

NO, no change the other day.
Im going to try what you suggest. After remnaming files, reboot then connect to computer, run commands laid out in the article and Bam I hope.
Now earlier, the setup wizard started but I got a "google servers failed, blah blah notice" I tried several times again after and never could get the setup wizard to start again. I know Im close, I can feel it.
So after the wizard runs, then what......reboot or should the lockscreen just change. and how do I go about adding the widgets to the lockscreen or are they just on by default?
Appreciate you sticking with me buddy, either way it turns out.:good::good::good:
