I would update your system to .906
Then eclipse 3.0 for a gingerbased rom
Or
Cm9 for ics

Thank you

Also, can anyone walk me through overclocking? Im struggling pretty badly.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk

Actually MavRom 4.5 has overclocking and is much more stable than Eclipse IMO. You could try that or even stick with Liberty (which was great for me) and just find the opptimizer flashable zip on Google for the Droid 3 and learn how to use that and use Busybox installer to run a script as root.
As far as what's new, Hash is trying to get kexec (load a second kernel after the first one boots on top of it) to make a ROM that is sweet but it's taking a while.

List your Steeldroid and Monster ROM bugs here.

The only determining factor on whether I stick with OEM ROM or flash monster/steeldroid ROM is this: do these custom ROMs have a single bug?
So, users of monster and steeldroid ROMs: are there any bugs?
There are absolutely bugs in both ROMs but there are bugs in OEM too. Both SD and Monster run so much faster than stock. You can still do everything youre used to on the roms. CM7 had the phone broke at one point but even thats fixed now.
Thanks.
I've got one more question if anyone can answer it. Do either of these ROMs I mentioned work on the Verizon Wireless Droid 3 or the GSM Droid 3?
I own the Verizon Wireless one (gotta make sure I don't flash an incompatible ROM by accident).
What, DarkDroid not good enough for you? :'(
Anyways, all roms out right now have been made for the Verizon XT862.

Being someone who doesn't enjoy flashing ROMs, I find it hard to tell which ROM does what but I thought I heard that Steel Droid and Monster were the oldest ones which made me assume they are more consistently stable.

Right now they're all equally consistent and reliable. Mine just hasn't been out as long, so less people are running it, but hopefully that'll change soon.

Ever since I flashed SteelDroid 3.0, the market app won't let me make purchases. I tried flashing Market 3.2, 3.0.26, and 3.1.something, and I tried the Root Explorer replace Vending and uninstall update method and nothing seems to work.
Not sure if its the ROM or something else, but very frustrating.
I'm having the same market problem with Monster, I brought it up in the Roms thread, hopefully it will be fixed in the next update

i think you just need to wipe data/cache to get your market to work.
Yes wiping data and cache will fix the market purchases

Flashing with bootstrap Droid 3
I went in to the recovery mode of bootstrap and then went to safe mode to install zip from sd card and i got it to install. Although when I reboot in safe mode nothing starts and when i boot in regular mode it seems exactly the same? I was trying to get the monster rom on 1.2 need help am i missing a step>? I followed the instruction and i did not notice that i had done anything different.........
No issues with darkdroid or steeldroid 3 from what i've found with my own slight notification mods for both, not had any market buying issues with either, flush the cash of the app or reinstall the market, failing that reinstall your roms from scratch.

[Q] Newbie questions

I am new to LG Revolution (trying to install custom ROM on sister's phone). I am coming from 2 different Samsung devices.
I have VZ6, 2.2.2, rooted. Windows 7 64
Here are my questions:
1) Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121952
CWM download link gave me a "recovery-cwm-pr1.tar.gz", so I extracted it with 7-zip and get a "recovery-cwm-pr1.tar". How do I get the .img file??
2) What exactly is ADB shell? Where do I find instruction on that?
I assumed installation of Revolt 1.5 is straight forward after I get CWM on the phone. I am just having a hard time to follow those instructions on CWM tho.
Heya,
I'm no professional at all of this, but I'd recommend downloading the revotoolkit. i;ve not used it on vz6, but that is how most of us went about getting cwm. believe there is a thread about it in development (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144951).
hope that helps you
I would get the GB update. Then root with using the post in development by mtmichealson. Then flash Gingervolt.
is the Gingervolt mature?? this is my sister's phone, so I am not going to flash it every week when there is a patch or update... I highly doubt my sister (technologically challenged) will appreciate Gingerbread anyways.
Gingervolt was just released so there will be more releases soon.
If she wouldn't appreciate it just get stock gingerbread on and leave it at that
Edit: not to take anything away from any the developers here don't take it that way please.

Thanks for the tip. Installed without sweat.
Nice to see people are still working on new ROM on this phone. All devs on Droid Charge have moved to Bionic and left us in the cold.

Thankfully we have dedicated people here, who get excited about the little breakthroughs on this phone. The phone is great, the hardware is fast and responsive, the programming (from what I hear) is a disaster. All the Roms I have tested have been stableish on this phone, a couple force closes here and there, but nothing too intrusive. Gingerbread is perfect, and the Gingervolt from Mtmichaelson is stellar, no hangups, no force closes yet. I would expect themes to roll out soon, and some more stable Roms. I would assume the dream of CM7 is on the horizon now.
In agreement with Haro's comment, you will find that we will not simply give up on this phone, we have been through too much.
No worries, glad I could help. Props to thecubed for that one of course

[Q] Top Droid A855 ROMs?

Hey guys!
So I'm still rocking with my Project Elite ROM right now, but I'm kinda getting bored with it. I know the Pre-Pre-Alpha for the ICS is out, but there are so many updates and such, which just makes me want to wait for the beta stage.
I've tried out the MIUI rom, but wasn't diggin' the "iPhone" look. And most of the lockscreens on it are in Chinese, which, no offense, turns me off, since I can't understand it.
Can you guys help me out with which ROM to get? And can you also leave me some reasons why it's a good ROM to get?
Thanks
~Jin
If people are wondering, I'm flashing ChevyNo1 SS 5.6
Let you guys know if it's good or not
This feels funny, commenting on my own thread. But for those still reading, Chevy's ROM felt sluggish on my droid, and I didn't like the transitions and such.
Any other ROMs suggested guys?

Try CM7 it has a 800 mhz kernel:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/motorola-droid <--- The site is down right now.
Or try Steel Droid.. based of CM7 with some cool improvements and changes and has a 1 ghz kernel:
http://dev-host.org/x4r442cfboec/SD_9.0.0.zip
I'm trying liquid at the moment. But I have a problem with the folders. When I open them, they look funny over other widgets.
I'll try the others?
GPA18/Chevys1. 2lv
Tried em all. Always come back to the GPA series.
I am using gpa 17 with his kernel at 1.1 and it runs smooth
Hi,
I'm newbie in the android world, i just download the Steel Droid Rom, can someone teach me/help me to install it in my Droid A855 :'(....?
I've always loved liquid gingerbread. But I ran ss 5.6 smoothly so I guess just trial and error

ROMS compatible with 902

what custom ROMS are compatible with 902?
Eclipse 2.1 official release should be compatible, according to nitroglycerine33. Tonight I'm going to see if Kin3tix works.
I just install the eclipse 2.1 official on safestrap and its working good with 902 radio
I can confirm that Kin3tix 1.0 is working with 902 no problems at all. If you need help try my instructions.

Tuck, I read your guide. Excellent, and thank you! I wonder if you might be able to answer a question?
I'm currently on KIN3TX with .901 installed. (No Safestrap or anything.) I have not yet seen anything about patched files to use with .902 the way we did with .901. So, to get .902, I'm assuming that I'd have to hit the pathsaver route and go all the way back.
My question is, after updating to .902 and then installing KIN3TX, what system are you on? I know it will be the .902 radio and associated kernel, but won't the KIN3TX installation replace the updated ROM with an earlier version?
Thanks.
DHacker29 has ICS4BIONIC rom with functioning LTE radio. You must be on 901 or 902.

I have not used the safestrap system for custom ROMs so I would be interested in recommendations.
I believe their is a version of liberty that.also works with 902.

I was on Kinex before 902 came out. Before confirmation that it would work with 902, I went with Eclipse that had been confirmed to work with 902. Since then, my battery life has plummeted. Android OS is now the main battery drain, where on Kinex, that was towards the bottom of the list, standby being the main. I'm going back to kinex.

I tried dhacker's ICS4Bionic yesterday. Most people (if not all) who've tried it are not getting stable connections of 3G, 4G, or both. I don't quite remember what exactly dhacker said when he acknowledged that there are issues, but he said he'd assumed 4G would work and didn't really confirm it. Just an honest mistake but whatever, just wanted to clarify that for anyone here.
Other than that, everything else about that ROM is awesome.

I'm pretty sure that Kinex (which was based on 894) just reported the battery drain incorrectly. The new Eclipse which is based on 901 actually reports the battery drain correctly now.
Battery life is about the same, if not marginally better on Eclipse (after updating to OTA 902) than Kinex was (after being upgraded to OTA 893).
hows the battery life on icd4bionic ??

It was draining pretty fast for me, but that's to be expected from an alpha version.

I've been running the newest alpha of ICS for a couple of days now and have held a solid 4g connection the entire time. I know that results will vary, but I would recommend that anyone interested in flashing roms tries it out for themselves. Battery life has also been fine for me.
I think that a lot of the people complaining about data connection didn't read through the thread to realize that you have to *#*#4636#*#*, select gsm only, then cdma only, then gsm/cdma auto to establish data. You have to do that every time you reboot also. Other than this small hassle and not having a working camera ICS has been flawless for me.
All you needed to do was read the first post of the ROM thread... thats all you had to do...

Vanilla "de-blurred" GB ROM?

Haven't been able to find one, but I was hoping someone knew if there was a vanilla GB rom for the Droid 4. I want to get a "de-blurred" version on GB on the D4 until we get ICS. Anyone know of one? Thanks in advance!
There's a few roms that still have Motoblur but with less bloatware, but none that match your description. For a true "vanilla" GB experience you'd probably want CM7, but Hashcode pretty much abandoned his work on it for CM9. That was on the Droid 3, I highly doubt there's anything for the Droid 4 at this point.

Unfortunately, the biggest hold-back has been getting a deodexed version of the stock ROM. I tried deodexing once so far, and my result didn't boot. At the moment, I'm running one of the Nightlies of AOKP that has proven to be particularly stable, so whether I will go back to trying to deblur the stock ROM, I don't know. Honestly, I haven't seen much interest in it. You can try my Motoblur LT ROM for now and see how it works for you, though. I did replace the launcher with Zeam and added the stock Car Home, but that's about it I'm afraid.
I used this to deblur my phone a few minutes ago and it seems fine so far. btw i DID NOT hard reset my phone.
I'm running Eclipse 1.3.4, and it's de-Blurred enough that I can stand it. Intall a launcher, and you'd hardly know there is any Blur left.
Eclipse is deodexed.

Is it possible to build CM7 from source for the DROID 4? Can we use the vendor files the devs are using to build ICS?
Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
We could start with the D3 port, and update it and go from there, but after talking with Hashcode, I was reluctant to work on it because I am not 100% familiar with how Safestrap works. Unfortunately, I rely HEAVILY on my phone for my school and work, and if I accidentally brick it, I am in big trouble.
