if you need to "redo the activation after you install the update" (as per the helpful steps found elsewhere here), does that means all the phone activation steps or does it mean the pageplus activation itself (or both)?
I updated to 905 and lost all service. stock bionic.
I'm trying to get my bionic working on page plus with ICS. So far i've found a guide on the howardforums, but it's not exactly noob friendly, keep getting stuck. Anyone know of a better guide anywhere?

Hi All,
Having trouble with my G1 (see my post below). The only remedy I see is to get past the opening tmobile Google sign up and get to the real home screen. From there...
I tried to do it through wifi but I don't have an att data plan or an unlocking code for my ATT SIM. (I did put ATT APN settings)
THoughts appreciated?
Regards, PK
BTW, why are my posts not in bold?
Your posts are not in bold until you have new reply to it.
Why would you need att plan to use your wi-fi? That part I don't get but neverless
You will need to get that unlock code to use your att sim card, there's no way around it, period.
If you want to use your phone on wi-fi with no sim card and you have root access then you can just go to this thread and follow the directions. If you don't have root access then then you need to downgrade to RC29 (using DREAIMG.nbh) and then follow the info in this thread. After it's all said and done you can either wait for OTA of the official 1.6 Donut or you can root and install the rom of your choice.
Good luck
very good, Thanks,
I did a successfully flash (I believe, sorta,... "bla, bla installation succesfull") with R29 DREAIMG.nbh from unlockr" .com" I say I believe because the only way I can tell is I can type in return, reboot, return and it reboots +it's a whole new opening screen with the Google runaround . The iffy part of "sorta...sucsesfull" of the flash is, I no longer have any access to any SD card and no ability to sync with PC.
As to unlocking the SIM card, no doubt, It will have to be done. Of the some 25 odd android websites I've been pouring over, theres no definitive statements as to just when in the process it should be done. I also don't know which of these guys are reputable Given my track record of half bricking this thing with my first flash, I'm going forward with a good dose of timidity. I'll take your comment as a go.
As far as wifi Google registration with out SIM card, I appreciate the link. I'll have to study it more but, I can't link to to my P.C. right now. I futzed with everything & follow instructions & prescriptions from everywhere for everything: adb, loaded new usb drivers, HTC drivers, android SDK-3, HTC sync (with supposedly corrected vista HTC drivers), Droid explorer, etc all day till 2 in the morning and the phone just isn't "taking calls", (or Sd's for that matter). But I'll keep trying.
Anyway thanks again for the straightening me out and the links.
Regards, PK
P.S. You can safely assume I tried everything every-which- way to get it to read SD's, that rebooting PC and the phone reformatting SD's, trying different capacities, buying another virgin card, popping the battery in and out,,, all a zillion times. Same goes for syncing. NADA.
thanks for ur information
Hi,
i recently bought a new droid 3 from verizon i already sim unlocked it because i live in Europe.
but i'm totally new to the android system but i do know some things about it but is there a guide to help me started rooting and flashing?
or could someone tell me the basics in a nutshell?
my previous phone was a WinMo based phone and all you needed was sspl and you could flash custom roms.
how is it done for android? and what does it mean with fastboot, root? (i asume it is something like linux to be root user?) safeboot? bootstrap? and what is CM7 or CM9
P.S. i study electronics-informatics so you don't need to tell me what linux or windows is
thnx in advance
Can you tell me how you unlocked your phone???
To root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240130
To flash ROMs install Safestrap from here
http://hash-of-codes.blogspot.com/p/android-downloads.html
Go to the android development section to find ROMs.
Liberty, ICS/CM9, MavRom, and SteelDroid are the most popular. Im using mavrom with ICS currently.
I definitely recommend looking into CM9. I just did a bunch of Googling on it today for my D3.
Now I'm running Ice Cream Sandwich and loving it. It's early yet and it has it's quirks, but overall I think it was worth it.

ooh but is there a way to brick the phone? cause it would be darn stupid to brick my 3 day old phone and send it back to america for repairs.
so just root the phone and install safestrap? no worries of bricking the phone? and are there other methods besides safestrap?
if yes what are the differences?
it all looks SO easy to flash roms for android ( in WinMo it was always wait and see) but then again it was Microsoft...
There is always a chance of bricking your phone but fortunately perma-bricking your phone while trying to flash new roms or using safestrap is almost impossible since you can still enter fastboot (m+powerup) from where you can install the stock sbf/rom
You can also flash using the 'old' bootstrap which basically removes your stock rom and flahes the new one.
Safestrap backs-up your old rom so you can try out another rom in another system/partition. Almost dualboot like except you can't reflash the original rom (yet)
Sry no links i'm on my droid3
"Almost dualboot like except you can't reflash the original rom" hey double, what do you mean by this. If you toggle safe system you can use your original ROM again. although i think im understanding wrong lol

You're right but you can't reflash your original rom (non-safe). E.g. i have mavrom as nonsafe/original and ics has safe..now if an update comes for mavrom i can't update it without uninstalling safestrap and going back to bootstrap
Oh I understand you now. And we got the same setup aha.

of what i read is that the MEID is a kind of IMEI number but because there are so many phones with an IMEI number that they needed something new but the unlock is (according what i found on google) always done with the IMEI number.
to what carrier is your phone locked to? and what is the exact type of your phone XT860 XT862? (you can find this in the "about" menu under settings.
maybe it is because my phone was brand new and never used.So it was never activated on the verizon network.
and i don't know if this has anything to do with it but on the box it says that the phone is "global ready".(I personally think it has nothing to do with that because if the phone is quadband it is ALWAYS global ready, if ofcourse the phone is not locked to verizon or some other carrier)
i have an alternative website but it is more expensive i thought it was 23 dollars or so. it first checks if they have an unlock code (never used the site but it looks promising)
sim-unlock.net/sim-lock/75/Unlock_for_any_New_Motorola_Defy_Flipout_Milestone/ (again put the http in front of it)
i hope this helps
I picked up an Sprint HTC One that had been flashed to NTelos (East coast carrier) and would like to flash it back to Sprint. I called Sprint and they verified that the IMEI # was clean and could be activated back onto sprint. Honestly I am not looking to activate the phone on sprint but temporarily to T-Mobile and shortly to a UK Cellular company. We are only in the US for another 12 days and I think that having the phone on Ntelos will potentially mess up the global capabilities of this phone. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Thanks for the info but I have been trying to get root access and it won't let me get past the recovery area. When I choose recovery it doesn't allow me to choose to install any thing, when I choose recovery it immediately does a restart with the red triangle. Please forgive me if I am missing something simple, I am still very much a noob but know just enough to get me in trouble. Thanks for the info.

So I have a fully stock HTC One and have spent all night trying to unlock the bootloader. Nothing seems to work I have never rooted this phone, everything I have read makes it seem as if it's impossible. I've tried the adb/fastboot, htcdev, and changing CID methods. Plus I have read of various other ways that already require a root. Which I cannot do seeing how I am still locked and S-ON.
To be honest I'm at the edge and I think I'm just going to give up. I'm on 4.2.2 - hboot 1.54. I was a previous owner of the Thunderbolt which was not a bad phone, I rooted that and everything no questions asked. Although I do remember HTC taking the longest for OTA updates, not a huge fan of HTC.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to unlock the bootloader I will be fine from there. I'm positive I have all the right equipment and prerequisites just not sure if I really am at the end of the road.
Anything useful goes a long way right now.
Thanks.....

Is urs the AT&T One? Then the bootloader unlock process is different. If urs is the standard international SIM unlocked, then ideally you should see a splash after you run the bootloader unlock command, which prompts you to unlock the bootloader. Please state what exactly ur issue is when u try to bootloader unlock
I'm with Verizon but it just gives me a 1 line error message doesn't run through anything else or load up anything. I type in "bootloader oem unlock" or whatever after clearly identifying my device is connected with "adb device" and nothing happens. It takes about 0.14 sec and says something along the lines of "[ERRORR] ......" after running again it takes 0.00 sec and says same thing, I can screenshot if you think it would be more helpful.
Please help, I appreciate both responses. Just really want this to work.

Hahahaha Verizon is REALLY REALLY BAD when it comes to dev. support. Ideally, you shouldn't be posting this in this forum. Post it on the Verizon forum. But, I can help you.

Download the package. Extract the zip and run the 'soju.exe' program. Please read ALL the pre-requisites mentioned in the instructions tab.
P.S. From next time if you're asking for help, please state that you're on Verizon

Hi
Newbie here
I bought a new 'unlocked' Droid Turbo from a Chinese ebay seller with good feedback.
When I set it up it seemed ok, and picked up a 3G signal on my UK carrier network (no 4G LTE here).
The signal seemed weaker than my existing (old) device, so I went into settings and tried a few changes (from Global to the other options etc)
The signal didn't seem to improve, so after a bit of Googling I downloaded an app called Network and tried a few setting changes,
Anyway, you guessed it I can't get a signal at all now, even after a factory reset
Can anyone offer me any simple help as to what I should do?
Is it useless now?
Thanks in advance

If that app made any changes to the system partition (the OS, basically), a factory reset will not fix it. If you want to get the stock, unmodified software back on it, you can try following section 0, steps 4-13 of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-install-t3292684.

Yes. If you want to make the process even more automated, you could install the Verizon Upgrade Assistant (that annoying popup you get every time you plug your phone into a computer) and select the "repair" option. That will do the same thing as this.

I tried to install the upgrade assistant, and it seemed to install ok, but there's no icon on the desktop or anything under apps (windows 10)
It does appear in the uninstall programs page in settings though.
I then tried the first method, but couldn't extract directly to the folder (error message came up) so I extracted to a folder on the desktop then dragged the contents into the correct folder and double clicked the batch file.
The phone is now showing the battery level, and the command box on the laptop screen is showing 'waiting for device'
Am I on the right tracks, or am I making newbie errors and I should get back in my lane?
Following the steps (as you suggested) has worked perfectly - thanks again.
I appreciate the ultra quick help from across the pond
