If you are using any third party music app,try scanning the music folders
Already did.. Still same. I rebooted already

Check if there was any file named nomedia in the music folders. If it was there, just delete it and scan the music folders again and play the music
Not sure if it works or not
Inspect the file if it has a replicate, the other replicated file is not playable, so the player cannot start. It happen also to me, i had to reflash the rom and format my internal sd.

What folder does my music need to be in? No music on my SD card shows up on my music player

Create a folder named music and put it in there. It should show up. If not, make a folder named media, then open that and make a folder inside media named music, and put your files in there.

What music player are using?
I'm using the stock music player "my music" I put my music on my internal and it wasn't on my music player so I rebooted and then they showed up

As long as there isn't a file called .nomedia in it, your phone should find music in pretty much any folder. That being said, if you're using the stock music player on ICS, make sure that MotoCast process isn't frozen. The stock music player is dependent on it for some reason, even though it doesn't appear to be the same as the MotoCast program that can be downloaded from the Play Store.
Weird question, but I transferred my music to my new One and put it in the Music folder on the SD Card. However, when I open up Music or Play Music it does not find anything. I'm using standard Mp3... . Phone is running stock and I'm not rooted. Thoughts?
Try Rescan Media in the store or reboot the device.

No option in stock music programs to rescan. Final solution was to use HTC sync to transfer music. How stupid is that. Even if I transfer music to where HTC sync does (using another program), stock music program will not see it.

Nacho suggested using an app called rescan media.
It would be a complete battery killer if android constantly looked for new media, so it only does this after certain things happen. HTC sync probably sends a command forcing it to scan. The app suggested forces it to scan also and it's literally as fast as opening the app and you're done. Phones where you had to toggle usb storage mode on/off would automatically rescan when turning off the usb mode. Since this uses mtp, there isn't much going on to trigger this.

why not download es file explorer and find your music click on it and then pick you music player to play a song..i pretty sure it'll scan the file after
Btw, I just transferred music with windows - drag and drop folder to folder. No issues scanning media. Not sure why mine worked just fine and yours isn't.

When i take songs from bluetooth , those songs r saved in bluetooth folder, when i move them to the songs folder they r not updated in the music app when i go to folders tab in music player , there is a folder named bluetooth which has songs but can't play them. And the new folder which i have made that is not present there either
So is there a way to trigger media scanner again??
In G.B it was automatic after every file edit or if we move or delete a file. But in J.B its not automatic. It only triggers after reboot.

There are widgets that do this. Or you can use widgetsoid to make them.

Can you move google play music that was purchased from google to the HTC music app.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
If it's downloaded physically to your phone, (not in cache form, but in actual mp3 form) then the Android media scanner will automatically put them in the local app.
If you change the cache files to a .mp3 file extension they will play fine and be seen in your media folder

How would you do that ?

Go itnt the data folder for Google music, it's /sdcard/android/data/com.xxxxxxxxxxx. find the cache folder using root explorer or which ever app you prefer. Just change each file name in the cache folder to a xxxxxxxx.mp3
The above will work, but unless you're comfortable with a batch renaming tool (command line or otherwise), could be rather painful. If you search around though, I think there was a project called Google Music FS or something similar that (if you were rooted) allowed you to share your music into any local-storage using music app.
You can also download the purchased music onto your computer through Google Music. Then transfer the songs over

Check in the settings of Apollo for searching, if not, perhaps the music is only being saved/accessible by using the app, so move the music to a separate folder on the root of your desired storage and check again? It's working fine for me having the UK top 40 in a folder on my SD card, it's all read fine..
also check if you have .nomedia file in your music folder perhaps
The music files are located on external sdcard under mp3.
I try to copy some of music to another place but don't help.
.nomedia is not excited on external sdcard I under mp3
When I go to tubemate select a video and click on save as mp3 then flash a ROM the music is not showing but under Video Player I see the music video that I save as mp3 format.
Maybe it help to know when I was having my neo and the music are it was not showing I change the mp3 ending to m4a and it was working but now dont work.
