CyanogenMod 9.1 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

** MOD EDIT: Thread closed at OP request **
hi all
now that i have instaled cm stable 9.1 version
is there any script to flash or kernel for better performance and battery consumption?
and what about memory do i need to install any script?
i'm new with this device any help or tricks would be appreciated.

I suggest you to install the Datafix app from Google Play and move some apps to /data partition because if you install many applications the /datadata partition it will get full and you will see force closing apps. Also install Root Uninstaller or something similar and get rid of the unnecessary system apps. If you do this your CM9 experience will be a pleasant one. This rom is very stable and bug free.

You can try Semaphore kernel 1.3.0 (latest version). It's very good!

Most common problem and its solution

Hey im using this phone for 1 month and im impressed by the performance. I downloaded few heavy games and apps like shadowgun and galaxy and few compilers and photo editing softwares. After installing them they were running smoothly. But after sometimes the app starts lagging. When i check the ram used i came to know that even i close the apps the app process is still taking some resources from ram i know its necessary for multitasking but the apps which you dont want to use further should be able to remove from memory. I tried with advanced task killler but after sometime that apps come back in the ram please tell a solution for and i think many users must have ezperiencing this. It is using up the memory unnecessarily.

use cm7.2 kang and use antoher kernel like vadonka, iron kernel.
vadonka provides 32mb ram hack and non 32 mb ram hack.
ironkernel provides 32mb, 64mb, and 96mb hack and non ram hack.
or you can install miui which is faster enough too.
or stock rom but already tweaked with another kernel such as horse power kernel which is nice and so on
just look the development section. LG rom is suck!!
If you have ram issues then you could also try to freezer these apps with titanium backup for example. Also, you could flash a custom kernel with ram hack of course...

Naaaahh... Just kidding!
CM7.2 Temasek KANG P204-30
Ironkernel (Vadonkas KANG)
Have your rooted and installed a custom ROM? Or are you still on the stock LG ROM?
Still on the stok rom
Heard the custom cm7 rom camera app is bad so waiting to get the ics. Should i install cm7? advise..

Hello!
The behaviour you describe in you starting post is quit "normal" for the LG stock rom - it is a known bug - stock rom has memory leaks and you need to reboot the phone from time to time get all ram back.
The camera app from CM7 is ok in the latest KANGS.
CM7 has a better ram management and using a cutom kernel can speed up things even more (considerably).
But you could also install a custom rom based on a stock rom rebuild like i.e. Guestes or Manouches roms - they should work better than standard stock and are based on newer(leaked) sources...
ICS will come, but CM9 needs still some time and the ICS build from LG won't be here before next winter...
Err... im confused my friend. Cynomod is a custom rom rite? and what is a kernel ? can you change kernel in your stock rom? please tell.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Yes cyanogen is a custom rom.
The kernel is a script that allows software to access the hardware. It's easy to change and there are many threads in dev forum about custom kernels. However I think you have to read some guides before

Improving speed

Hey people. I would like to thank you guys for teaching me how to root and beibg patient with me. Yes i have done it. I succesfully rooted my phone. My next question would be, how fo i fix the lag on my phone? I tried olcf, which does not works on my phone as I am using gingerbread 2.3.3 . What are the methods to fix the lag? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
U should try minfreemanager from the market. It kills apps faster by it self and improved my phone's speed.
Dl. "Easy cache cleaner" from market, it's developer is bazinga and just clear your cache once or twice a day.that will usually fix most lag.
Yes you could clean your cache but why don´t you flash a good rom? if you want to sty on gingerbread than you should check:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344489 and flash the latest semaphore kernel
If you want android 4.0.4 you should check: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572705 and flash the latest semaphore ics 1.1.1s.
This are my favorite roms, because the batterylife is very good, they are very fast and there are no lags.
And you should download a taskkiller wich kills annoying apps in the background. This makes your phone faster and the batterylife is better.
Oh. Thanks for your advices. However, can someone please help me overhere? I know that flashing a rom increases your phone's speed greatly. I followed all the instructions from youtube, however when I was about to install the .zip file from my phone in recovery mode, it got aborted everytime it begins. Please help me.
dont use any task killers as it runs in the background and drains your battery. the best way is to flash a new rom.try out the slim ics rom.
Is there any link that you could provide of flashing a rom for my gingerbread 2.3.3?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
If you whant a gingerbread rom then you can use odin it is easy
in this thread you can see how you can flash with odin it´s only for gb roms --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17485710
you must have 4 files: a pit file, a code file, a modem file and a csc file you can see this at the thread i used this gb rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344489 it was fast and had a great batterylife with this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
but this rom looks also nice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626068
If you want a ics rom then you should flash a semaphore kernel, because you need a new recovery mod and then you can install the zip from your sdcard
I use this Taskkiller: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.liveov.rebooter&feature=search_result
it doesn´t run in the background and kills all uneeded apps and you can reboot your device fast when you have root

Hmm. A lot of threads to read in the development section for you there are. Answers you will find.
-
But as I am kind:
I think the best beginner roms with great benefit are darkys roms. But since u have to flash cm9 to flash darkys v11 black, you can also stay with cm9.
I think the stable 9.1 is a good choice with either semaphore 1.3.0 kernel or devils 1.0.3 kernel.
Cm10 is still too unstable for me, but I am sure there are other opinions.

In CM, you are flashing kernels, modems, mods - via CMW (flash zip from sdcard).
I think ICS - based roms don't need any memory tweaks.

CM9.1's stock kernel works well.
IMHO If you're not looking for specific tweaks, you don't need to flash a different kernel.
what's about memory(storage)?
do i need to install anything to expand it?

Storage is physical memory. You have to buy a external microSD card or delete apps to get more.
If you are talking about ram: there are tweaks in the kernels mentioned above.

As for a rom I will recommend this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1793511
I personally uo ICS because it is more stable but also JB can be used every day.
i think you should try the slim cm 7 rom + adrenaline engine. it is the most stable, smooth, and light rom i've ever try.

i flash normaly, or first return to stock and than flash?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956127
go there and you can choose one of them. i prefer the cm7 because it didn't have any noticeable bug, it fast, and it battery friendly. it based on the mebitek's. you can flash it from any rom as long as you have CWM. the step to flash it:
1. download the rom, gapps, and the adrenaline engine (and the additional pack if you need them). put it on /sdcard
2. you can backup your app, message and callog by titanium backup or any backup apps.
3. restart
4. enter the cwm
5. do nandroid backup (for the worst case scenario)
6. do a complete wipe (system, partition, dalvik, battery)
7. flash the rom, gapps.
8. mount the /system
9. flash the adrenaline engine
9. do complete wipe again
10. restart your phone
11. you can restore your app, message and callog after your phone fully working.

Read this.
If you want a fast device then try Mackay ICS.
For gaming try CyanAOSP (Jelly Bean), CyanAOSP (KitKat).
For customizations try Cyanogenmod or Cyanogenmod based ROMS.
Also Omni is pretty good.

That's a good choice. To take advantage of the Semaphore's kernel features download Semaphore Manager from Play Store.
If you want to overclock your device choose 1.2 MHz and the ondemand Governor. Also for 400+ MB of RAM choose the s Semaphore version and also download the Bigmem libs.
Can i Overclock the cpu more than 1.2Ghz ?

Yes you can but not with Semaphore kernel. Mackay kernel supports up to 1.4 MHz.
Keep in mind that with clock speeds over 1.2 MHz you will experience a lot of crashes and reboots, your device will get hot etc.
Now i understood thanks!

When im installing the rom (CyanAOSP) and the kernel (Semaphore) is it need to have installed custom 4.3 or 4.4 ROM first ? Or i can install everyting from the stock rom ?
Sent from my PAP3540DUO using XDA Free mobile app
You might lose your IMEI if you install 4.4 straight from stock. The right way is to install ICS first then JB and finally KK (or you can install KK straight from ICS).

Install the ROM first. Make sure to choose the correct Semaphore kernel for your ROM.
Can you tell me what kernel i need for cyanAOSP JB or mackay ics and then i want to install cyanAOSP KK.

You only need to flash a kernel once you install the final ROM, in your case KK.
Thanks

Hi to all
After to try upgrade my GT-I9000 by KIES (realy bad choice) my phone crash and can't coming back in original without any issues.
I was going and in samsung service to setback but the problems are still there.
Boot freezings and random of sorry the android.process.media has stopped. acore, keybord etc.
I try to fix them first by cache or apps settings but no luck- i was try everything.
Next step for - i had a feeling my phone is not dead and i can't to use it like this - is try to fount a rom in all net.
To many rom's and installs clears with full format or not - with xp,7 or 8 - but all they have same problems (slim,paranoid,etc.). Full of Sorry's that service or other has stop and press the ok every sec.or rom apps crash down or freezings and next black screen or freezing and many reboot's auto.
2 weeks try and try again. It must to save my phone.
And yesterday i try another rom.
1. set (must have) the I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA by ODIN 1.83 with repartition s1_odin_20100512.pit
1st reboot auto and freezing again (many auto reboots) but final open the phone in settings.I didn't stop so must see the next step
2. Set Kernel by Odin again CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.
The phone reboot but boot over and over without go in. Again i didn't stop so i go in recovery (other way to take the install file) and mount usb (i can't go in phone) and take the ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_I9000 rom in internal sd (no external sd and no sim in the phone).
3. Clear the data/factory, reset data cache and dalvic cache and install it (i can say the install it was slowest by the others rom's and more stady in the load bar).
No extra gapps files to install need.
The phone auto reboot and i wait with hope again.
Boom. The phone open in the setting without single problem.:victory:
The Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 is there all works perfect !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I save my phone and is realy fast because the phone have a realy good hardwear.
So the Final answer is the rom must fit in your phone
I hope to help i wish a nice day to all.
