A few questions for owners - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I am considering in buying a note since the GPU is the same as note 2 .
I just wanna ask how the battery life and screen is.
And I want to know your opinion.
Thanks a bunch

My battery can last for 15-18 hours a day, with quite active usage on whatsapp, xda-apps, facebook, internet browsing, phone, do some stuff on S-memo, polaris office, and email, plus sometimes camera if I find any object for my work purpose.
I don't like to listen music from note, and only play (very very seldom) game.
The battery enough for me to last on outdoor usage (without any need to bring charger).
Screen, as some users has posted on other thread, some of the note device do have a bad blackclipping.
Mine is one of those bad blackclipping screen user.
I did once want to make a complain to Samsung. But damn it.... In front of the service center representative, the blackclipping just gone like that, and I fail to complain. :silly:
After fail to complain, I use the method here (credit to betoNL), to reduce the blackclipping.
And now, on my device, I use the 240 dpi mod, the black clipping issue is actually reduce to the max, almost gone.
But if I were you, I will wait for the Note 2, and compare it on hands before buying it.

Yes, why not? Or cm10 is ok

The battery life on the note 2 will be significantly better and the gpu may also be faster. JUST because it will also be the mali 400 doesnt mean itll be at the same frequency.
The note 2 will be better than the note in every way except screen resolution and pxel density. For most people who already own a mode these improvements are too marginal to really matter. The change from the note 1 to note 2 is pretty similar to the difference between a 2013 car and a 2012. Not worth an upgrade if you already have a note 1 but waiting for note 2 maybe worth it. It all depends on pricing really.

Don't know about stock kernel, but stock 4.0.4 rom and latest Hydracore kernel (OC) is fast on my device. Battery life is similar to my GB experience similarly on my usage.

If u r not in a rush, just wait for a few more weeks for note 2 to publish.
Then u can know the difference without regret.

Note advice

I'm considering getting a Galaxy Note. I have three options: original international, original ATT, or Galaxy Note 2 (whenever it comes out).
I was leaning toward an international, but ATT 3G is very weak here. LTE coverage is much stronger. I know the international Note is quite a bit better spec-wise though.
I don't want to spend over $500ish, so I'm guessing that will rule out the Note 2.
I would buy a used original, but I have reservations since the stock ROM isn't available straight from Samsung. (I'm spoiled by Nexus phones...)
Any suggestions?

Original International would be better choice
Since Note 2 will not be in your budget I think so stick with option 1 But I am going to buy Note 2 soon

That's a bit steep for me. I hear the screen is even larger than the original, right?
I'm still leaning toward original international. 3g is terrible here though...my Galaxy Nexus practically goes into airplane mode when I'm at work.

Thanks for that link. Just to clarify, the international Notes only support HSPA+, right? That comparison lists LTE.

Go for note 1
For me, Samsung "somewhat cheated" on the screen of note 2.. It has a slightly less resolution with a slightly bigger screen size therefore the ppi of note 2 is lower compared to note 1.
720 x 1280 pixels, 5.5 inches (~267 ppi pixel density) = note 2
800 x 1280 pixels, 5.3 inches (~285 ppi pixel density) = note 1
I know its not obvious but I'm pretty sure that the edges of the pixels would be more noticeable if you squint your eyes hard enough.
And for me, the real world difference between these two phones is just the quadcore/dualcore CPUs.
Considering the current market, note1 would give you better bang for your buck.. besides, for me, the dualcore cpu of note1 is enough for my hard gaming and ton of multi-tab browsing. :highfive:
I think ill just hold off for note2 come next year or further down the line if they continue with note3.. for sure note3 would be a big jump compared to note1.
If you will go for note1, wait until note2 fully comes to the market.. for sure the price of note 1 will drop bigtime.. :good:

I noticed the pixel density as well.
I think I'd be fine with the international Note 1. I've been using a Galaxy Nexus, and it seems perfectly fast for the most part. I'd imagine the international Note is pretty quick since it's on ICS now? (It's much better spec wise compared to the Galaxy Nexus or ATT Note, right?)

If you really are not sure if the coverage in your area would give you reliable service on a Gnote 1, try looking for a friend that has one and borrow it for a few hours and give it a spin.. see if its getting reliable coverage at your place..
Im not sure how it is in the USA but here in the Philippines, we dont care about 3g/HSPA+/LTE etc etc.. unless we want to get to the internet.. We never get dropped calls and SMS as long as we got the regular carrier signal.. (is that GSM? not sure how you call it) besides, calls and SMS is the main purpose of having a phone right? LOL
When it comes to performance, IMHO, i cant compare it to an AT&T note since i dont have an idea with that.. I can only testify with my international note1. ICS performance is great! cant compare it to GB tho since i upgraded it immediately to ICS a few hours after i bought it. It lags sometimes when my torrent client is doing some hash checks.. but its no biggie..
I get average 15hrs on a full charge.. regular to heavy use of calls and sms.. when I get to the internet (browsing/downloading/wifi hotspot) i get 6 hours on a full charge..
Im on stock 4.0.4 with notecore v14.1 std in case you want to know...

Still debating whether to stick with a Note. I bought one a few weeks ago, and it seemed somewhat laggy. I was having an unrelated problem, so I returned it.
Do you think the Touchwiz update will help things? What about Jelly Bean?
I'm buying it new, so I'm comparing it to an S3 or Note 2. Still trying to decide if it's a good buy at this point. I really like the hardware build, just not sure about ICS/ Touchwiz.

I own the international note with ics 4.0.3 and I too experience significant lag. Having recently jumped ship from the iphone, the lag is noticeable and occasionally bothersome. Not just on the touch wiz but also in apps like Chrome when scrolling. In fact I can't even scroll down a forum page of this xda app without it going choppy.
I'm going to upgrade to the Note2 when it is released, as the reviews say it runs very smooth.
I think a lot of it has to do with Jelly Bean but also the quad core helps too. I think the note1 will smoothen out a bit once jelly bean comes out for it but who knows how long that will take. Surely Samsung will drag their heels on it as they won't want to lose sales of the note2, from people like me.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
My note is very fast. No lag no nothing. Probably the same as the notes of other members around here that "wasted" more than a few days testing different rom and kernel combinations and trying to f8nd the perfrct one. Its like painting a masterpiece. You get a piece of empty space that can become a great thing. Thats the beauty of android in my oppinion. The Note is really a great device.

Bye Bye Nexus 4 forum

I have learned quite a lot from this forum and may stop by sometime but I have traded my Nexus 4 for an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note II and I am loving it. Once I have had it for a while I drop by and let people how it compares to the Nexus 4 for me.
Farewell! I actually did the opposite. Sold my Note for a Nexus 4. I actually dropped the phone on several occasions due to it's size and that's what made me sell it. I hope you have better luck with it, because I did love the phone at the time.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Sold my note 2 after 2 months use because the difference in fluidity is very apparent to me (nexus win), couldn't have a fully functioning AOSPA rom (Samsung sources not always available), and some of my favorite devs support the nexus (Moles, Morfic, Faux123, Franco). Do miss the battery life, spen, and gorgeous screen on the note 2 though. Both phones are great.

You better be rocking your nexus 4 naked to be making that sort of statement. Most people when they buy a samsung, apple or google phone always have a case on it so whether it's glass or plastic don't matter. And when you break that back glass, good luck replacing it.

I switched not so much because of something I did not like because I didn't know what was better or worse than the Nexus 4 vs the Note 2. I wanted the pen, sd card, otg and the larger screen. I now find I like the larger size as I have rather large hands. So with the Note 2 I don't keep accidentally pushing the buttons on the side of the phone. I also happen to like Touch Wiz as I have it on my GNote 10.1 and I am not really that concerned with quick updates or having the latest versions. I would have gotten a Note 2 in the first place If I could have afforded it unlocked. Which I could not but I could afford the Nexus 4. Now I found someone that bought a T-mobile Note 2 on contract because they could not afford a Nexus 4. They kept their contract and switched it to the Nexus 4. They requested the Note 2 be unlocked. So I got an unlocked Note 2 without a contract. Making it was a win win situation for us.
As I use the Note 2 I find that the calls made using Talkatone over WiFi are much better quality without having to make any adjustments other than to increase the speaker settings in Talkatone when speaking to my wife as she speaks very softly. The Note 2 does not have the mic gain problem that the Nexus 4 has.
I find the screen of the Note 2 to be quite a bit cooler in color than the Nexus 4. I am still not sure which I think is better color wise. Sharpness of text and images is so great on both as I can not see any thing but smooth curves no matter how hard I look. I can not see any dots on either screen so dpi and resolution are fine for me on both.
I don't like for the physical button on the Note 2. I would rather have the center button be the same as the menu and back buttons. Also I think it looks cheap. I love how the back and menu buttons are not on the screen and do not show but light when touched. I find the arrangement of the buttons on the Note 2 better for me. On the Nexus 4 the back button always seemed to be on the wrong side. Of course the real estate of the screen is awesome the thinner frame around the screen makes the phone look even bigger than it is.
I don't like the fact the Note 2 uses S-Beam instead of Android Beam as they don't work together as far as I can tell. My wife has an Xperia Acro S using Android beam and we were able to beam some pictures sometimes between it and the Nexus 4 via NFC and Android Beam but we can't beam pictures using S-Beam and Android Beam between the Xperia Acro S and the Note 2. We were able to beam a Youtube but really that just beamed the link and opened up the Youtube player.

[doubt] htc one and nexus 4

I was watching a video one nexus and m7.....both have almost same dimensions, leave alone the make quality (nexus is crap i know it )
what will be the difference between 1.5 ghz snapdragon s4 pro and 1.5 ghz snapdragon 600 regarding the performance? (pls dont post benchmarks)
i feel blink feed will be the first thing I'll be disabling before anything....(seriously )
pls advise me on technical things as I'm planning on upgrading from my stupid galaxy y.
ive seen reviews on camera and i think htc wont disappoint us......
lack of wireless charging will be another blow on HTCs side.

snapdragon 600 claims a 40% increase in CPU performance, coming from S4 pro. Wireless charging is nothing great, you have to stupidly fix the phone on a particular position on the charging mat. And for your information, One has 1.7GHz
Sent from my DHD
The performance of the Nexus 4 is rather bad compared to other S4 Pro phones, as it suffers badly from thermal throttling - that is, the CPU heats up and the phone makes it run slower to stop it from getting any hotter. So the One should be a lot faster than the N4.
The gap between the One and one of the faster S4 Pro phones (like the Sony Xperia Z, which is very nippy) will be narrower, but it should still be faster for most things. (Possibly only barely faster for games, though).

HTC one. N4 throttles because of the glass back. Gets too hot then cold then bam your glass back is shattered.
Plus HTC one has better specs and features

Depends on the phone. I LOVED wireless charging on my Lumia 920. Position was no issue, and it always worked. it was fantastic.
The N4 sucked at it and I agree with your statement in regards to the N4.

m7 will have more usable screen size due to not using onscreen soft keys (thankfully). Far better build quality. I have a suspicion the m7 won't feel faster (if not slower) than the N4 but that is due to software. It is hard to beat the speed of AOSP regardless of what specs you throw at it. Now that said, with some custom roms (especially if the m7 sees AOSP) the m7 will most definitely be faster. However I would be quite surprised if Sense 5 doesn't feel at least some "lag" Vs. an N4 stock vs stock just due to AOSP vs Sense.
I wouldn't even consider the N4 personally. There isn't really anything I liked about it (I had 2). I went back to my Lumia 920 over the N4. If it wasn't for the Note 2 I probably would have gone back to the GS3 waiting for the GS4/m7/etc.. coming soon. I could list all the things I didn't like about the N4 but that is not really what this is about and there is plenty of that information around .
Having owned all of these phones I fully intend to try the m7 next, regardless of what Samsung announces for the GS4. I like Samsung's products but I look forward to a phone that will look and feel a bit more elegant, something I would be very (happily) surprised if GS4 accomplishes.
As far as wireless charging goes, I seem to be one of the minority that care. I would have loved to see it, though it is definitely not a deal breaker and implementation is key. The N4 wireless charging was a horrible experience, but the Lumia 920 was awesome at it. I could toss it on the pad in any direction partially off the pad and it would still charge fine. I do miss that, but it is not at the top of my list. It's nice not having to deal with the micro usb plug at 1am and your trying to go to bed in the dark .
There is one reason why I'll probably be sticking to the N4 and that's HTC's policy of locking down phones. When I drop £500 on a phone I expect to be able to use it however I want to. They can take my warranty away if they want to but at least give me the choice.

lol when you unlock your device through htcdev you can root, flash ROMs, flash custom kernels and everything. The only restriction is flashing kernel through the phone itself and downgrading hboot and radios... But why would you want that?

Is this definitely the case? Someone in another thread was saying that the hox was only like that because of the Tegra processor and it won't be the same for the one

That's a different story. Achieving s-off on snapdragon has never proved to be a difficult job. Tegra was time taking though

I didn't think s-off was ever achieved on the hox. If s-off is achieved on the One, then I assume you can flash ROMs and kernels without being connected to a pc. That would make my day.

It will be possible to root but it will be an inconvenience having to go to the computer every time you want to switch roms.
just sold my n4 and went back to my old desire s while waiting for
the htc one.
Besides all discussion about performance and rooting possibilities: I hope to
get a physically more robust phone like my desire s is. Had the feeling that
N4 could fall on almost any edge to break and hope to feel better with one.

Is The Galaxy Mega 6.3 Considered An Upgrade Over The Original Note?

Curious if any note owners who skipped the note 2 consider the mega 6.3 as a worthy upgrade over the original note?
I thought bigger would be better until I compared it in the flesh with my note, deffo way to big for a phone I'd give it a week of somone grabbing it from ur ear (as it litterly looks like a brick) or I'd be claiming insurance on it cause I don't have any items of clothing with pockets that deep to keep it in..still a nice phone but there's probably still a market for that size but just not for me..

Performance wise did the mega feel snappier than the note?
I've had my note for two years and I am always up against the low ram as I multi task a lot. I prefer to not have my browser kill itself when I go to use other apps. Also I wish my note was faster.
I was hoping the mega would resolve these performance issues. I love the big screen and the lcd since it will be much better to view in daylight.
Thanks
Unfortunately I couldn't compare speed as it was one those kiosks with the phone but just abit of printed card in display as the phone isnt out until sometime in july, but got a good comparison in sizes..my notes running fast enough for what I use it for with most up to date s4 mods think il be happy enough until the note 3 arrives...HOPEFULLY..

I woild not consider it an upgrade. Specs are low, and iirc its 720p just like the note 2. If anything the kega is a downgrade. Unless your primary use of your "phone" is to watch youtube, its a downgrade. Not saying its a bad product at all here, just i would keep my used, 800p phone over gettimg a brand new mega.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Exactly as ur already unhappy with the ram the mega is indeed a downgrade from note 2
As the note 2 has 2gb of ram and the mega only has 1.5gb and I don't think the processor is as good either so if ur lookin the bigger screen then like myself hold off until the release of note 3..

It would be better of getting the xperia z ultra rather than the mid range galaxy mega which to me is still expensive. The z ultra is bigger, better, faster, STRONGER than the mega and is water resistant too. So if you are a gamer, web browser, video watcher or anyone who plays around with their phone a lot and likes huge @55 phones should not buy the mega. Samsung made the mega mostly for the 'poor' customers who are korean. If they were to make it into a high end phablet then some of their customers might complain. So for those of you who are wealthy here just get the z ultra. Just saying
It's not an upgrade. The Note 2 is of course, but at this point wait three months and get a Note 3.
I believe he's asked in comparison to the original note.... not the note 2!

Yes but we meant don't upgrade to mega as the note 2 has the better specs even for an older phone its the better ram and performance that he's after
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Actually i've been considering of buying galaxy mega and sell my note. It's definitely a good phone even categorized for a mid range (I've played with it for a while at the store) and a upgrade for our note. If note 3 does not come with better design i think i'll choose for galaxy mega since the performance of the mega is really acceptable at leat for me.

certainly an upgrade, when talk about the screen size, but a 6.3 screen with a hardware of N7000, i would not buy it, I am still patiently waiting for Note 3

Instead of pressing quote pressed thanks. But that is ok.
The point is what you said is possible. Seems Sony is bent upon to outsmart samsung, even before note3.
One silly doubt what type of stylus it uses.

The Mega 6.3 destroys the Note 1 in benchmarks and is on par with the Note 2. It's not for me but if you like the size and don't need the S-pen it's a decent option especially since it's priced below flagship level.
As someone who owned an original Note and now owns a Mega, I'll say this: The mega is much, much faster! :good:
It's only dual core but the cores are Krait 300 cores, not A9's like in the Note/Note 2. That means single threaded performance is a lot better - and other than benchmarks and games, most apps are single threaded. To use, the device is as quick as the S4 (snapdragon version is the one I've played with) and nearly as fast as my Nexus 4 was.
As for the screen: Other than being 720p, it's top notch. Colours, contrast, refresh time etc.

Here are the Mega 6.3 benchmarks. In fact it beats the Note 2 solidly on most of them and it would completely destroy the Note 1.

Why do most reviews say it has low specs and is laggy, then?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I haven't read too many Mega reviews. Do they in fact say that? In terms of specs they are probably comparing to the GS4 whereas in this thread we are comparing with the Note 1.

Do you like the quality of the display?

I would like to know peoples opinions on the quality of the display. I myself am kind of put off by the "noise" or grainines of the display, also I have noticed some ghosting on the display. For example if the background is white and there are darker shapes after I scroll up or down I can still see some of that shape for a few seconds then it turns with like the background.
I'm so very disappointed on the display as well. It only looks good when you max out the brightness level (which is what I saw at the phone shop before I decided to buy one). If I'd known this earlier, I'd buy G2 instead.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I usually always max the brightness on every phone I buy. Well when in bed I turn all the way down. I'm not that picky but will have to wait and see it in person to decided if I want to sell my G2. I'm just not using my Nexus 7 and figure why not sell it and just a phablet. lol
From 0 to 10 I'll give 7....only because background noise, which is fine because this is flexible display.
I have been reading alot of reviews and theres mixed reviews of screen quality some says its not that bad and some say its really terrible and alot of pix elation and stuff, little worried on my pre order just will have to wait and see. Either way i change phones every 3 months or so, got to feed my addiction...

Thanks.
Cheers
Not really a flash aholic anymore since phones keep geeting better with software and as you can see from my tag line im giving up my Note 3 for this either way 3 months from now here we go again... ps I need an intervention!

I'm debating between the note 3 and the g flex. It has been a very tough decision......
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium HD app
The display is better than expected in my opinion. The viewing angles are excellent and the colors are vivid. Whites are good from 50% and up otherwise it is grainy but honestly I think it's a great display. My favorite display to date is the HTC one with a 10/10, ill give the note 3 a 9/10, the G flex a 7.8/10.

You and me both,
I just gave my wife my note 3 for the nexus 5 and now I'm going tomorrow for the flex "maybe". I've used it in a at&t store and liked it other than display. But I think over time the display won't bother me that much. I'm mainly going for size and battery.
My wife and dad fuss at me all the time for switching phones. But to be honest if the nexus 5 would've been larger and better battery life I would've been completely happy with it and probably wouldn't be changing for at least a year, well maybe 8 months lol

As far as battery life goes do you have it at full brightness. I noticed at the at&t store that at full brightness the display was pretty great. I can handle the 720p if I left it on full brightness.
Just curious as to how long the battery will last on full brightness. I use Google all access music about 6hrs a day thru Bluetooth, YouTube 30mins-1hr, Google+ 30mins, xda 15-30mins, and searching the web 1+hr a day. I guess I'm a heavy user if that helps. Thanks

U should have no problem with that useage. I have the phone half the time in full brightness and auto the other half for sane reason that u have to have it a full to get best display.

There's a lot of worry about the display since its only 720 p but like u said, if u crank the brightness up the display is just fine. Below 50% the display is still fine except for whites, they become too grainy. But above it becomes white white. Battery life is something you NEVER EVER have to worry about with the G flex, it truly is the king right now no matter how bright you put the display. I was consistantly getting 8 hours of screen time with heavy use ( and when I say heavy I mean watching a ton of youtube videos, downloading some pirate bay movies, phone calls, lots of tapatalk, lots of words with friends....). Dont worry about battery life at all.

The display is horrible. I have the note 3 wanted the gflex very badly went to tmoblie to try it out. Side by side comparison with the same wallpaper. Search g flex wallpaper on play store. The flex display has got to be the most terrible display on the market for a 2014 phone. Its grainy and very pixelated. In short I could not bring myself to get one. Noticeable downgrade just on display alone and the curve is not that curvy. They played it very safe with this phone. Doesn't even have 3gb of ram. Wish it was better.

Besides the display.
The note 3 is a great phone but even with 3 gigs of ram it still falls short on performance compared to the flex. I like my note 3 but purchased a nexus 5 cause i got tired of the note 3 being slow at everyday task like rotation of screen and clicking on apps, not to mention web browsing. Don't get me wrong it's fast but after tying a nexus 5 you'll see what I'm talking about. With that point made the flex is just as quick at the nexus.
My point here is unless the devices are right next to one another you won't notice any difference in display quality. "Minus the grainy look" but as far as pixelated you'll never notice.
Just like you'll never know the speed without them side by side Just like i did when i got home i compared the note 3 to the flex Just like i did with the nexus. The flex is very snappy at everything You throw at it. The only thing i haven't compared is the cameras but I'm sure the note 3 will win that competition.
Everyone is entitled to there opinion though and this is mine.
As far as liking the display yes i wish it was 1080p but for first gen and being curved i like it.
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
I like it too. Display is oled that's why I very happy. It's better than on my xperia z ultra (TFT garbage). On G Flex screen provide beautiful color's. There is some background noise which is not noticeable as people say. This is our curve screen guys thats how is working.
