It's a little sad, but the time has come for me to move on from DarkyROM. He no longer has time to develop, which is understandable and his v11 effort was admirable, but there are too many bugs for me to wait around for another 6 months to get fixed.
So where do I go from here? Anyone have any suggestions? I once tried going from DarkyROM to CM7, but my IMEI seemed to become mostly 0's...!
I'm after a complete package that gets updated regularly. I suppose CM would be good, but I need to know how to flash it without losing my IMEI again.
Thanks

CM9 is pretty good at the moment. Very stable. Otherwise CM10 is a good choice, but it's not 100% finished yet.
If you want ICS, definitely CM9.1 stable.
If you want JB I would recommend Mackay ROM, which I use at the moment as well. It is updated frequently and very close to stock. Haven't encountered any problems yet.

I too came from Darky rom , then Alliance rom. Now i have been using a cm9 based rom, SlimICS for a good while now .. very stable/fast/smooth!

Hi!!
I have been planning to switch to MIUI for a long time now, however I have a few questions before I start. I must add I have tried a Galnet release before, however I decided to revert back to Darky's ROM.
Now I see there are a lot of MIUI releases floating out there and thats whats confusing me.
How many types of MIUI releases are there in all
I found the following.
MCG 5.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992251
(However this seems to be a very old one)
MIUI MCGv7.6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13372250&postcount=10049
(Is this a new version of MCG v5.1 or is there a totally different ROM, also is this latest or is there a new version of this as well)
MIUI 1.9.16: Nothing Fancy V7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241509
Galaxy S I9000 MIUI.us presents MIUI 1.9.16 Pure English
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118682
I'm guessing there are more, coz i remember seeing atleast a couple of more threads.
Now are these all same releases varying only by version numbers or are these totally different ROMS cooked by different Chefs.
If yes, then which one is the best one or in other words the most good looking and stable.
Also, can these be flashed directly on a GB rom without going back to Froyo, coz i remember the last MIUI i tried, it didn't require a FROYO flash.
Please help, I really really want to try this out however i'm currently tearing my hair out, coz i can't understand which one is the one that I should try.
There is only one MIUI, and its Chinese, The ones you see are 'remixed' versions of MIUI
If you are wanting to try MIUI i would suggest GalnetMIUI, I know you have tried this before, But the latest releases have been epic, in terms of speed, stability, and battery life.
There is no longer battery drain with MIUI, its the same as any other ROM, dependant on the users usage..
MCG MIUI is/was Mambo, Currydude, Galnet.
MIUI gets updated every friday, Then the ROM Chefs that 'remix' it have to translate it to english and add their uniqueness. I know for sure Galnet does this, As for the others im not so sure..
And finally YES !! you can flash this over a GB ROM. Galnets MIUI is android version 2.3.5 and requires GB bootloaders in order for it to run smoothly.
MIUI is a great ROM and i have followed it for months now, I have flashed other ROMs but always go back to MIUI within 1-2days.
Which ever version you choose im sure you wont be disappointed
Official miui updates every friday. Look here :hffp://miuiandroid.com/.

Thanks dude!!
This thread was helpful and even the remixedMIUI versions are a must to do the job as we have got many stock modded roms!!!

Yes thats all you need to do.
Make sure its an absolute clean install, I would format cache, dalvik cache, Internal sd card, then top it off with a factory reset. (im obsessed with super clean installs)
Make sure you backup your apps though !!!

I just did a clean install of MIUI 1.9.23 and I must say i'm very very impressed, there have been tons of improvements in this release... I was gonna try out Galnet but it seems their site is down for maintenance, so I just gave this a shot... By the looks of it, i'm gonna stick with this one for a long time... ;-)

Once i tried MIUI i never turned back. As i said before ive tried other ROMs but i just cant live without MIUI
Whats the best rom available right now for the N1? I haven't tested my N1 with anything in a while been running MIUI but I'm finding it to be sort of laggy now with apps installed.
Fastest? Hmm, pretty much any CM7 self-kang.
This one by samuaz is really fast: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416894
Is that the most stable rom available for nexus one right now?
with multiple full wipes to include system both are stable for me
with ICS by samuaz you need to follow op page exactly
Temaseks latest CM7 Kang with scroll zip is BLAZING
I use now ICS by samuaz, it's fast and really stable. But it's an alpha version!
When you think it's important to have a stable rom, then
use CM7. CM7 roms are as stable as stock, but better ;-)
worth upgrading to ICS or JB?
hello. I realize this thread hasn't been active in a while, but I am thinking to bring back my Nexus One from the grave so I can have a backup phone for my daughter to play with in the car/plane. I wanted to ask if it is worth installing ICS or JB ROMs that are out there. I just have the stock ROM in there now and I always struggled with low memory and lag with some newer apps, that's why I've upgraded phones (I've have a Galaxy Nexus now).
I don't have intentions to put a SIM card in there, so I don't really care about phone call features.. only purely from a processing and lightweight standpoint.
Has anybody played enough with GB vs ICS and/or JB and weighed if it's worth upgrading? I'm assuming that it's worth it because so many developers still have Nexus One ROMs... that's why I would just go ahead and install it, but then I'm thinking again if it's just going to bog down the phone if I'm going to only use it for simple games.
Thanks in advance!!
Ken
Hello! I have installed the CM10.1 VJ Jelly Bean 4.2.2 v6.0 that is based on CyanogenMod and Evervolv, and works fine for me. I also have installed all the /data partition in the SD card with the A2SD script that is incorporated in the ROM... it generates some few lags, but I didn't have had any problem of lack of space again.
In my opinion, this is the ROM of JB that best preserves the native Android interface, and in my case is stable (until 7 days without to require a reboot!).
Other JB ROMs that users frequently use are PARANOIDANDROID and PixelDroid.
Thanks for the quick response! That is the ROM I was thinking of as well. However, just as a comparison, I'm thinking to flash a clean version of GB back onto the phone as well. Any recommendations on any GB ROMs as well? Thanks!

Sorry, but I can't help on it. I didn't install any GB ROM further than the stock ROM. In my opinion, I think that a stable, complete and functional ROM might be CyanogenMod 7.2. Maybe other XDA members can help you better on it...

This is my main phone. In several times I though changing to other new Nexus device, but the screen size of new devices is too big for me! I like a screen size from 3.7 to 4.0, that is good to read mails, a brief navigation in the Internet, and other minor issues. For other intensive uses, I have my tablet Nexus 10 or my laptop.
Hello all
so i've heard alot of people here talking about this rom and it's "awesomeness" therefore it got me wondering how could it be that stable without being even an Experimental Mod?? btw i haven't flashed it yet, do you recommend it for gaming??
TGIF! and still there's no reply..
There are plenty of threads like this. CM will never be stable as a stock fw, but it's definitely worth a try. You could've known this from dedicated topic (thousands of posts).
Well, my CM7 was stable but i really wanted to try the CM9 and gaming is the most wanted feature i need.

I think that is often the case but not always. I have run versions of CM7 on my Nexus One that were far less problematic than stock.

They probably started out with some pretty good code. Of course they have been aggressively adding features. I've also been hearing that its pretty darn stable but still lacking a few things, like video recording, for example. I think the nature of "nightly" code changes makes it inherently more risky than what they call a stable release.
I have run CM9 myself (20120402 nightly build) and have to admit it's a pretty good job. Better than CM7, although it's still lacking some features (many placeholders throughout the ui). I suggest everyone gives it a go and judges by himself.
As a side note, I have abandoned CM until we get something more complete, and moved to a Nexus porting. Much more complete, although I am afraid that ICS has to wait quite a long time before it can be defined mature on our phone. In fact, I would like to revert back to GB (miui, maybe). I know that ICS is going to do much of our sgs, and I'm scared that it will be painfully hard to downgrade, having seen the goods that the future brings.
OK thanks everybody, i'll wait for the final release as the video recording is one of my essentials.

Do not even think to downgrade to GB, after you try ICS there is no going back.
I went from ICSSGS back to JW1 and now I am going to flash CM9, I only wanted GB back because ICS drained my battery very quickly, but there's no much difference.
Stick to ICS and save your time!
Cheers.
I flashed the CM9, everything worked just fine, but the battery was the reason for my downgrade, i'll try Miui then flash back to GamerzRom if Miui didn't support gaming.
The AOKP Rom with the Devil kerel has got a greate batterylife
^
link please?
if you want good battery life flash it with semaphone, you will get it as good as JVU or more.
The issues are that the colors seems washed, very low autobrightness and i get overheating while using data (wifi or 3g).
So CM9 isnt for me, i will stick back to JW4 that for me its the best rom atm
Hi all,
I am looking for a good and stable ROM for my GT-I9001. Yes, the list of available ROMs has been provided as a sticky thread in the forum, and a list of available ROMs is also provided in the Wiki for the phone too, but there are so many ROMs... it's very difficult to decide, specially when I am a newbie.
Also, am a total newbie in this area. I have just been using the phone as it is, with the stock ROM for over an year. I haven't even rooted the phone yet. But now, am willing to root the phone, and even thinking about installing a custom ROM.
So, please suggest some good and stable ROM(s) for the phone, preferably with latest Android, like JellyBean, or even ICS. Stability and efficiency is the key for me, because I am not too keen on changing ROMs regularly, unless I being to enjoy experimenting and playing around with the phone .
I was happy with the stock ROM until now, but recently, I encountered a problem with the Play Store, and thinking it was a problem with the phone, I reset it to factory settings. Now, am unable to upgrade the firmware through Kies because of some unknown error. Someone on this forum suggested flashing via Odin... so, I thought that if I have to flash it via Odin, and get dirty, then why not root it, and try some custom ROMs.
Am a bit nervous with all these processes as they are new to me, and also, if my phone gets bricked, I can't afford a new one . Still, atleast the rooting process looks easy to me. Rest, I will and try.
I am fairly experienced with computers and Windows, but Android and phones are a new area for me. But, I can pick up easily, just have to try. Can play around.
Any suggestions for a good stable ROM will be appreciated . Thanks.
No reply yet. Can other fellow I9001 users help me out there please? Share their experience with different ROMs, or just direct me towards a nice stable one.
Looking for the same...
Hi.
I'm also looking for same answers. Haven't tried any ROM yet but looking for a fast and stable one. Hoping for replies soon.
The CM10 port by ivendor (here) is very stable and feature-complete as far as I'm aware (except video-out, which doesn't exist on custom roms).
There is also a CM10.1 port by Xistance (here) of which there are a number of positive comments on the forums lately. However, this isn't something I've tried myself and I actually wouldn't really recommend it as very stable (there are a few things still missing and/or not working properly, such as bluetooth).
Next worth mentioning is arco's CM9 (here) which is pretty much rock solid (RC3 that is) but suffers from SOD (screen of death) issues since RC4 so I don't recommend RC4, RC5 or RC6. Although I very much enjoyed using CM9 for months I would recommend CM10 now though, it's equally stable and performs better (in my experience).
There are also a number of ROMs that are based on another ROM (usually one of those I already mentioned). They're usually comparable to their "unmodified" variant so you can just experiment with that.
Those are the ones I'd personally recommend but everyone has their own opinion on this kind of thing.
Thanks a lot for your reply Marshian, much appreciated . I think I will go for CM10. Will keep an eye on development of CM10.1.
Rooted my phone today.. yippie .
Will now read about how to flash ROMs, and then go for CM10.
Hi there folks!!
This phone dropped on my hands today from a friend of mine you is a excluded in this matters of customizing droid's...
So what I need to know it's the stuff that i should use to root it, like recovery and such, and the best overall rom to put in the phone. IF there is kitkat stable even better... If not Jelly Bean it is.
I'm not an expert, but i workaround pretty well, but i dropped on this forum today, and with so much stuff i don't know where need to look, and don't have the time to read it all.

If none of the current data ia needed, then a nice clean full format to the New bootloader would be a good choice.
Use the AIO tool in the Developers section to format the phone to default new bootloader. you can follow the choices to install recovery, and download your choice of Rom.
The most stable and fully featured out of the newer roms are only the CM 10.1 roms. anything made later have camera and bluetooth issues.
Pengus has his own, Look ma no hands. its an excellent rom. along with his M1 kernel. its the latest you'll get to fully stable.
If you'd like more features, Tonyp made a T-build version 5 currently. use the same kernel from pengus again M1. and give that a go if you like customizing a bit more.
there are later roms. and they are all great, but they are still in development, with many bugs still to really work out.
you can also go Stock and try out the few very well made custom stock roms i believe there are 3 different dev's that have done work on ICS and did an excellent job of it.
Or you can stay on the old boot loader, and stick with GB if you really want to stretch out the battery life, and have every feature working.
the first few pages of the dev section would have everything I've just mentioned. but you could also use the Search for anything your having trouble with.
PM me also if you need more detailed assistance.

New battery can do miracles. LG stock battery is highly recommended.
