Hey guys, im using the current sotck 2.3.5 firmware as you can see on my signature. Is it worth it to update to 2.3.6? If so how? Can it be done without loosing no files?

I have flashed from DDKQ6 to DDKQ8 with no data loss.
And reflashing the same rom via odin also does not format!

Some people say its good, other it isnt i just want a SUPER stable rom, with a super stable kernel with super battery life and ram. Thats why im on stock with CF-ROOT. But b84 has bugs with wifi blue and data, gave errors and had t6o reboot so many times. B83 has same errors but hapens 80% less times.. But i think no more supp for cf root and people say 2.3.6 android uses less 70mb ram, more bat life and new unlock screen+answer calls is new.(at least on my GIO of my girl) we are portuguese.

Well, you can always go back to froyo.. the problem is app compatibility.. e.g. equalizer apps won' t work in froyo and a lot other's.. but someone here is comfortable using froyo so you might wanna give it a shot..
Why not flash custom roms?

As far as I understood, gingerbread has better performance
not recommended to go back but you can just download the firmware which have all the files like arm11boot, data.rfs, system.rfs, cache.rfs etc.
Try Andro-ID 3.3.1 / Emanon V6.
not recommended. gingerbread has better memory management and battery... flash to another baseband if u want..or why not try a custom rom. ? andro-id 3.3.1 is gud...

My friend own's a galaxy pop. I roorted it on sunday using SOC and flashed CWM recovery. but whichever rom i try to install, i get the message 'installation aborted'. when i start the phone, it works. but very unstable. random restarts, or the phone remains horizontal (not straight, qwerty keymode). motion doesnt work. Probably because its not installed properly.
I tried flashing the recovery again but no change. tried the latest recovery. also tried the older version of CWM recovery (v4.0.0.5). still no change.
In the end, i flashed a stock 2.3.6 gb rom for region:india. now there is no data connection nd wifi works.
don't know what has gone wrong.
I used Odin and tapps_v1(or whatever) to first flash android 2.3.6 immediatly after rooting. then i flashed CWM recovery. what shall i do????
PL HELP......................

Getting sick of the ICS battery and kernel issues and have decided to clean out the phone and install everything fresh.
I am currently on an unrooted stock ICS ROM (N7000XXLRK) and understand that I should go back to a GB ROM first then install ICS. I will search on here for a guide on how to do it (links welcome ) but am confused as to which ROM I should use of the many stock ROMs posted on here.
Since I am going to do a clean install, is it worth going back to the XXLRK ROM or is there an improved one which has sorted the battery kernel issues out? Which GB ROM can I safely go back to without confusing things before I reflash ICS?
Is it recommended that anything else is added or flashed while I have the hood up? Unless there is an uber stable custom ROM I want to stay stock, but will want to root it.

upgrading to the latest ICS kernel doesn't necessarily guarantee that your deep sleep and excessive battery usage woes will go away.... your deep sleep and battery drain issues are subjective and have lots of factors that might contribute to it.
Don't let the notion fool you into thinking that your issues(above) will simply be resolve by simply upgrading to the latest firmware. Because I'll tell you now.. it will not still. (infact there have been people complaining that upgrading to the latest ICS one have increase more their battery drain than ever before), unusual as it may seem... but it has been complained about already.

First thing I am just wondering why this quoting is broked ? looks like something is broken in this thread.

Third I was just answering him the question he asked in "OP"
Fourth if you are facing deep sleep issues or your device is not going to deep sleep mode then OP can try this..
Turn ON the Airplane Mode.
Switch Off your Phone.
Take the battery OUT for a minute or TWO
Put it back and start your phone.
Wait for everything to load
Turn off the Airplane Mode.
After that you can check the same in CPUSPY

Thanks for that.
I have tried the method you describe and also looked at CPUSpy with BBS and on top of that I have the keyboard lockup issue too in Chrome.
It seems that the quality of the phone is completely lower since the ICS updates with it not providing a full day of use on one charge as well as me having to be careful about bleutooth/wifi usage and time that I use the phone to surf. Quite ridiculous really and I haven't had to use a smartphone like this since the days of the HTC Diamond.
Before I revert back to GB and be done with it, I want to try an nice clean ICS install and give it one last chance, unless there is a custom ICS ROM you think I should consider.

Yes, using pc odin you can flash what you like. If you want good battery, it's worth doing a clean install ie perform data wipe/factory reset to clear any old mess, obviously if you're going onto ics make sure you have a safe kernel before performing any wipes at all.
To be honest though, for ICS you're getting pretty good battery life, I doubt you'll top it except going back to GB.
All the best, let us know how you get on.

Yes, I understand that WipeAll is the best way. But this mean, flash safe kernel = root (or can i just flash safe kernel on my stock ICS via PC odin? )
And root ICS = go to GB directly rooted kernel and....etc.
In my old Galaxy Spica I have change kernel or mod (rom) every month but was always just 2.2 froy. So no worry about it.
And still i am reading all thread of all rom in XDA. No rom is perfect. Its working but sometimes some bugs...so i am tired (2 years with Spica) of looking for the best kernel for my note.
Now i want just one normal working with a little good live of battery
btw. What is your live of battery on custom kernel 4.0.3. ? If you say i have pretty good battery i will not it change

Firstly battery: ics swallows a lot more juice than gb, so what you're getting is pretty good. I'm currently on paranoid android jb beta 1.4 with Beastmode kernel and getting roughly 8 hours with 4 hours screen on. I use it a lot! When I was on pure ics 4.03 I was getting around the same.
Roms and kernels: if you flash an already rooted gb, you can do so now with pc odin and it will automatically root. When you've done that, check to see if cwm is installed as it may be part of the package in which case your good to go, if not just flash a Chainfire kernel. Then you have cwm recovery (vol up, home and power) and flash this rom package which includes a safe kernel.
Hope that makes sense.

I presume these ROMs have their kernels built in.
Would you thus recommend one of these custom ROMs for my requirements over say stock ICS with perhaps a different kernel? I am not really looking for lots of features as I would like to build up the apps on my own, ie shut out bloatware. I would like it to be stable and have at least 15 hours of battery life with 3-4 hours screen time, which is what I enjoyed with GB. How do you think CM9 fits in with your selection?
Last flashing I did was on a Dell Streak which was easy as there was only DJ Steve at the time, Seems with the Note I am starting again from scratch, completely different flash process and loads of ROMs. Sort of blinded by it all to be honest

Paranoid looks very interesting.
Is it recommended that I try it or is it too unstable and thus I should I stick to the other listed Roms?

First thing I am just wondering why this quoting is broked ? looks like something is broken in this thread.
Second thing I didn't advised anyone (not the op) that your issues will be resolved by just doing the things mentioned above. Confused ? Check OP.I am currently on an unrooted stock ICS ROM (N7000XXLRK) and understand that I should go back to a GB ROM first then install ICS. I will search on here for a guide on how to do it (links welcome ) but am confused as to which ROM I should use of the many stock ROMs posted on here.

Hi everyone
I have just gotten a Samsung galaxy mini. I rooted it and unlocked it okay.
But then I wanted to flash rom and stuff, so I downloaded Odin, and flashed cwm, but... When Odin says pass, it press home + power and the Samsung screen flashed twice and sticks.
But the strangest thing is that it can still boot into android sometimes.
I am on android 2.2.1
iBook anybody can help as it is worrying me a lot
before flashing rom or CWM you will need to upgrade to gingerbread either through odin or Kies
and then flash cwm and after that flash rom with cwm
Thanks for the reply
I can't seem to upgrade via kies, can you provide a link that contains stock Roms for my samsung that can be upgraded via Odin.
Is there any chance of bricking at all?
Do you need any other info?
Thanks

Can somebody give me an idea on how to root my phone, again, as i would like to put cyanogen mod 7 onto it
thanks
(sorry if im being annoying)
just flash any custom rom now, you don't need root for that and most of custom roms are pre-rooted

Hello everyone,
I'm used to flash ROMs on my G Ace and reading some threads I've noticed a lot more technical terms that scared the hell out of me.
My question is: There are any difference between flashing on the Galaxy S x Galaxy Ace?
I was thinking to flash the Mackay ROM, and need some guidance to flash it because the ROM that's running have the navigation bar, with the touch buttons deactivated (Back button was constantly malfunctioning).
I want to keep things like this but how do I re-active the Navigation Bar after flashing the ROM?
I did make a research on the Forum but I'm not a very advanced user, so all step-by-step posts were all confuse to me.
Sorry if I sound a bit confuse, English is my second language. Thanks by the patience
The S and the Ace are totalli different devices. Flashing Mackay onto an Ace will most likely brick it.

Totally. I'm using AcePhoenixed on my Ace.
My doubt is: it's just place de Mackay ROM.zip on the SD, fact. reset and flash through CWM? Or there are any other steps to do?
On the S, obviously.
Srry if I was not clear about that

Oh. Yeah, I thought you wanted to flash Mackay onto the Ace ._. Sorry for misunderstanding your query ><
Yeah, if you want to install Mackay, put it in your internal memory. If coming from stock 2.3.6, go GB -> CM9 -> Mackay. Just to be sure you don't lose IMEI. If coming from another ICS/JB rom, wipe combo and then flash through recovery.

Ok. Now about the navigation bar *pic attached*, after I flash the ROM, will it be available to active on Config> System ?
I've already look there on the running ROM, and the option does not appear.
Back touch button doesn't work, so this is the best option for me.
Thx for your help!
Anyone knows if there will any option to activate the NavigationBar??

It's my gf's phone. So I wanted to be sure if there will be the option, since the actual ROM don't.
If you could tell me if in any other ROM the option is avaiable

Mackay settings lets you activate a navbar. No customising though.
