[Q] Adding a Language - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
been searching a bit, but could not find a good tutorial to add a language to the Note.
I have the DBT German version, but since I live in Indonesia, I would like to have Bahasa too on the Note.
I have been looking through what is all language related and found the following:
/system/T9DB/ (seems for the keyboard)
/system/tts/ (seems for text to speech)
/system/hdic/ (seems to contain the actual system languages)
(Is there more?)
I am currently downloading the GT N7000 XSE Indonesian Rom, planning to extract all Indonesian language stuff and place it in the relevant folders of my "German" rom.
Naively thinking this should do the trick right?
But maybe some of you tried before, and already know what more needs to be done?
Maybe a database edit somewhere or something ??

Ok, first unsuccessful attempt to add a keyboard language:
added:
phonepad_id.kdb
qwerty_id.kdb
Samsung_611_IDlbUN_xt9.ldb
to the system/T9DB directory
Added :
<!-- Indonesian -->
<lang_id>off</lang_id>
to others.xml
Wiped cache, and Dalvik
Unfortunately Indonesian doesn't show up as a keyboard language

Ok,
added the Indonesian language files to contents.db, wiped cache and dalvik again
Still no luck

WWE keyboard on italian ROM

Hi guys, I have an english k-jam flashed to the italian Rom. Then, using a registry editor, I have edited the keybd/locale value to "0809", but there are still some buttons that do not work right ("blue dot"+n is = instead of *, "blue dot"+b is + instead of =, and so on).
Maybe 0809 is not the correct value for me?
Any hints? thanks!
Italian is 0410 (HEX-value!)
0809 is English UK
here's a list: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/lcid-all.mspx
I have written a language pack that is able to also adjust trascriber, spell checking and so on. Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43680&highlight=
Unfortunately (for you) it's in German. But if you could provide me with the necessary files I could make one in Italian, too.
The necessary files are:
- TraRecoITA.dll (or something similar)
- TraRes0410.96.dll
- TreRes0410.dll
- transcriberITA.htm
- mssp2_it.lex
- sym.txt (a italian one!)
- dictprob_IT.dat
- statdict_IT.dat
concerning the ITA, IT,.. endings of the file names: they may differ, cause I only do know the german endings. These files are usually in the windows folder of an ITALIAN ROM.
Please do not ask me how to extract them - that's kind of difficult and I don't know how. The only thing I know is that the best thing is to dump ít from a ROM backup with viewimgfs.
Hades.

request English T9 files

Hi, I've just installed the TW ROM for asia font support. Only now I realise predictive text no longer works.
Please can someone with English ROM post their T9 files for me? Also has anyone tried doing this and does it work?
While I'm here, anyone know how to change the interface language to English while keeping the East Asia language support?
I'd like to have the german T9-files for use with WWE-ROMs.

Well, to change the interface to English, you'll have to flash the WWE(English) ROM. Keeping East Asian language support depends on what kind of support you need. If you just need to view East Asian languages, you would need to put the appropriate font on the device. If you need to input Chinese/Japanese/Korean also, you would need to install the appropriate IME and SIPs. Since you haven't specified which East Asian language you need, I can't help any further.
excellent, in that case i might just copy all the files i need from the TW rom and add them back after flashing the UK Rom. I need chinese input too so what files do i need to make copy of?
Unfortunately, I don't know too much about getting chinese to work since I don't know chinese. You probably don't even need to copy the files from the TW ROM. Just search for "Chinese Input" on these forums, and I'm pretty sure you'll find threads dedicated to finding the complete solution that you need.

[Q] German Language in V10 &V11 i9000 ?

Modem files have nothing to do with language. Languages usually come from the framework which can be changed by installing a theme, so install a theme that includes German and you will be fine. For example I know for a fact the Black Android theme contains three different versions of German.
Also the default language will often be set by the CSC file, assuming the language is present in the framework.
Thanks, I have Black Android 4.4.2, can i use it with ZSJPG (v11)?
in the threads of the themes is always that they only work for various firmwares. JPY JS5 JS8, etc.

I am using it with v10 (JPJ), so I would imagine yes. Take a backup before applying it, just in case.
Thanks/Danke rschenck,
it works. V11 and Crysis_Revolution_V1.5_r99. boot took a little while and I was a little bit nervous because the Samsung boot logo was to see an eternity, but in the end it went and I could change it to German.
THANK YOU

[Q] Doc&Stefunel's Rom Kitchen: Available Languages per Base-ROM

I searched and read almost every Post but no answer - maybe it is just too easy or i am blind? I hope not!
I cooked a new ROM in Doc and Stefunal's Kitchen yesterday (okay, i admit, i tried multiple times and got language problems i never had when i used the kitchen before.
Does the language or locale have to be included/available/compatible with the Base-ROM you choose or does it just relate to the CSC you choose?
When i tried "*NEW* ZSJPK v11.1 WIPE" after a factory reset everything was Chinese (or Japanese) and the only readable alternatvies i could choose from were US and British English. Ever after i retried with a german (DBT) CSC no german locale was available.
Now i try do understand... Where do the languages / locales reside and what else needs to support or be compatible with a certain language to make it available in the whole system?
Thanks in advance - i hope this is not a stupid question answered a hundred times before...
Languages are usually part of the theme.

The Theme??? Even the Settings-Menus and Stuff? If i can not choose German and the Dialogues are in English that's the fault of the Theme!?
Ok, that was not one of the options i thought of...

Languages are part of the framework and are usually specific to the region of the release. So if a release is intended for Holland it will include Dutch and English.
However the themes completely change the framework, including languages. Since themes are meant to be universal they include as many languages as possible, solving the problem of region specific builds.

[Q] SM-G730A How to add additional languages?

Hi, I have a cellphone bought on ebay. It has only 7 languages, but I need to install Russian (this is a gift for relative that doesn't know English). So, I tried these things:
1) Delete language files (Actually, I don't remember they names, but I found this solution for S4 Active, then my S4 had a set of limited languages too, but after deleting xml file on /sdcard/.... and rebooting all languages have represent). In this case additional languages hadn't appeared. I think I happens because that S4 had build-in russian, but S3 doesn't
2) Use Morelocale2 and other apps. Only a half of the device moved to Russian.
It's rooted. I'm ready to do everything to add additional locales. Please advice. Maybe some locales those contains russian? Okay, say they names and I will try to install
