Theres an app on the Play Store called No Lock that I believe worked on the original Kindles. I don't know if there are any apks for it that you can side load from. Best shot may be to root and install the Google Play store. Do so at your own risk, I have not tried that app on a Kindle (or the Play store yet).

Hi Stu5797! Glad you worked it out. As an alternative, if you don't mind the screen lock but would rather not see ads (provided you're rooted of course), you can go to /system/app and rename the file dtcp_apk.apk to dtcp_apk.apk.orig. You'll never be greeted by another Special Offer Screenlock Ad again!
Greetz all!

I was confused about this as well. Here is a step by step guide. The thing I was missing was the reboot after moving the apk to system/app.

Working good on my Captivate.
One concern: How do I take off the "minus" marks on the app icons that lets us delete apps right from the home screen (the screen we get when we click on the home button).
I see this as a security risk. I have app protector pro. But then, we can just delete the app protector pro in this mode without even asking for any password or anything, and all my apps are open for everyone to use.
Could anyone please help me take off this option to quick uninstall apps from home screen.
This thread is a joke, right?

Nope. I am serious. So far I realized that unless a person knew how to mod a Captivate, he didn't know how to access protected apps. But now, even a layman can just delete the 'app protector pro' and access all the apps that are supposed to locked by it.

You do know that once you rooted your phone, anyone with a little knowledge can do much more than simply delete apps... just don't lose your phone or give it to an iphone buddy who might wonder what the neat little thingys on your screen do
Bye. What launched are you using that you see this in.... and deleting an icon from your home screen does not uninstall it on any that I have used

Not the icon. Like when u press the home icon, u can see all the apps present on ur device. For user installed apps, u can see a small "minus" in a circle on the right top of app icon, just like in iphone when u go to edit mode. click on that, and it will uninstall the app.

Pardon me if my concern is not really one. I am just expressing myself.
I use Application Protection from the market. Upon uninstalling any app it always asks for the pin. There is no removing the program without it.

Right, this is as long as the app is there. I am telling about a situation where the protection app itself is removed. I could remove it without it asking me for the pin.

Another possible solution is to install another launcher that dosen't have uninstall in the application tray or doesn't work at this time (my LG Optimus below) and use root explorer to remove the two launcher and reboot.

Others have already pointed this out, but what you need to do is dl and install a different launcher from Market and then uninstall the TWLauncher. Problem solved.
Just because TWLauncher is the default in Cog 2.4.1 doesn't mean that you have to use it. Get another launcher. Or you could try never letting your phone out of your sight...

you need to reboot your system after making that change. Assuming you are running a .32 kernel, the build.prop change WILL work.
I am running [Kernel][Eclair][Froyo][CM7] Dalingrin's OC kernel [6/09/11].rebooted, reinstalled still not working.

Not at all. That is set elsewhere. Regardless of what your device think's its model is (HTC vision or Nook), it knows its resolution is 1024x600. There is no database relating specific model strings to specific screen resolutions.

How did you get it to work? I tried and could not get it to work. I'm wondering if I'm taking some of this too literally. I used Root Explorer and changed to this:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
Should I remove the "HTC <space>" that is in front of Vision on the ro.product.model line and leave it simply as:
ro.product.model=Vision
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

zoomy942,
Thanks for the link. I had already downloaded it and was migrating it over to my device when you replied. I tried it and get an error notification when I try to install it. I even tried using Astro and AndroZip to locate and install it since the standard installation app didn't do it. I was able to do it with other apps, but am running into a snag.
The only issue I'm suffering is that Netflix, while it playing audio/video, sounds like The Chipmunks on crack by playing at 2x-3x speed instead of standard. Any ideas on these questions.

It's not even installing. There's no install prompt like in most sideloaded apks. I don't get it. My friend got it to work on his Nook Color, but I'm stumped. I hhave wiped the cache and then uninstalled Netflix, then sideloaded the version on my Droid 2 running Liberty 2.0 and it even updated from the market. Each time I try it I get the 2x-3x speed issue. I will log on from my laptop and try to copy the exact error I get later.
Again, thanks for your help.

Then the only other way would be to obtain the .apk from somewhere other than the play store. And if it's not a legit distributor, it's not suggested, recommended, or allowed to be discussed here. A lot of apps you can find threads for here on XDA or other forums where the apk is provided. Others you can't

Hi everyone. New kindle user here. First off I would like to ask if my kindle is fully rooted? In the current version info it says current version 11.3.1.0_user_310084920. I followed the Root Kindle Fire HD "7" 20013 (KFSOWI) 11.3.1.0 tutorial but the kindle never restarted on its own after the rooting process I had to manually turn it off then back on. The kindle is the new 2013 version with no camera and 16GB of memory from Best Buy.
Also, is there anyway I can install the google play market on this? Or, if possible, dualboot a non kindle brand Android OS on this?
Hi Dan. To check for root I would suggest getting the app Esfile explorer and go into the settings and turn "Root Explorer" on. Then see if you can cruise through the root folders /data or /system and actually see files in those folders. If you see files inside those folders you should have root. Also, be sure to install a super su or superuser app to keep apps from Willy nilly acquiring root privileges.
As of this moment I am unaware of anyone getting google play to work properly. Lots of peeps have it installed but working as its supposed to? Mine isn't. I can browse but there is no searching or downloading. As for a non kindle brand os all I can say is that patience is a virtue. The boatloader its still locked down and I'm not aware if anyone has figured out a work around yet. Till then we are all waiting on the ingenuity of the devs. I would not suggest trying anything until we hear that fer sure someone got it. I for one don't want a brick. Cheers.
