Hello all,
Relatively new to the XDA scene and trying to root my N7000 running on Meteor network in Ireland. Yesterday I upgraded via Kies to LQ2. I'm trying to follow these steps to get root +CWM:
Root instruction
Download the Files first and put in your SDCARD [CWM zip][ SU-Busybox-Installer.zip][ SU-Uninstaller-signed.zip]
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage. (use vol up/down to select, power to enter)
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD(Now use touch function to select choice)
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted
But when I try to "Apply update from external storage" I get this error: "E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)". I have checked the storage and it is definitely in there when I look through Settings>Storage> Misc files. What am I doing wrong here? I have looked for similar threads but didn't find an answer.
Currently on:
Baseband version - N7000XXLPT
Kernal version - 3.0.15 - N7000xxlq2 - cl605927
Build number IML74K.XXLQ2
Cheers.

I understand WHAT I'm supposed to do. I just don't understand HOW to do it.
Am I meant to do this using my pc?
My sdcard is external storage(?), while my phone is internal (if I understand correctly). I do not know how to save the 3 files once downloaded to my pc onto my internal storage. Based on the thumbnail provided some posts up it seems I already have the files in my external storage.
Thats the internal SD card folder. The external show as ext_sd on the phones file manager. You can copy then there using either the internal file manager or via pc.
On pc it shows as sd card though. It can be slightly confusing.
Hi guys,
I want to root and flash custom roms on my Galaxy Note that is currently on stock Touchwiz rom with android 4.0.3.
Do I really need an external SD card for some reason? Can't I just install the files for rooting and flashing custom roms on my internal storage (and in which folder should I put them?)
I've rooted my HTC Magic and HTC Desire Z in the past, but have no experience doing these things on a Samsung device.
Thanks!

No need of External Card. You can do all the things from your Internal SD Card
I just tried to root my Galaxy Note using this method http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...on-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-no-computer-required/.
I used an external sdcard as shown in the video and did everything he did in the video.
I just got into the stock bootloader and managed to install CMW.zip from there. But once i’m in there my phone just can’t seem to find the 3 zipfiles that I’ve put into /sdcard/external_sd. When I got in CMW and I clicked “choose zip from sd card” and then clicked the ‘external_sd’ folder I got the message ‘No files found’. When I clicked “choose zip from internal sd card” I got “E: Can’t Mount /emmc/”.
What’s the problem? I already tried unmounting & mounting my sdcard in CMW.. I also see the 3 files when I’m browsing through my system and storage folders..
Thank you!!!

In some CWM version, internal and external SD location is swapped. Maybe you can try opening internal SDcard to locate your external-SD card.

Hello everybody.
I'm searching for a way to swap between the internal sd storage and the external one on my Galaxy S3 Mini because the internal storage is not enough big to install games and other big apps. I've seen there is a way for the S3, but I don't know if it's possible for the Mini too...
So, please, if anyone can help me...
EDIT: I've found a way to do that, and it only needs to have a Galaxy S3 Mini i8190 rooted.
Okay let's go.
I took the method from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886091
But it's not exactly the same on the Mini.
The following quote is the instructions taken from the thread with the improvements ( in red ) for the i8190.
NB: I can't answer to questions since I'm not expert at all, I got it working so I give you the solution, that's all I can do.
1. First, I'd recommend making a Nandroid backup of your phone.
2. Next, just to be extra safe, I would backup your internal SD card to your PC. While you are doing that, if you have data on the external SD card, back that up too.
3. Next, I would format your external SD card to fat 32. (You could probably use Ext format too, but I didn’t test that.)If you already have it in that format, and have content on it, this won't affect the content, but back it up just to be safe. It’s probably better to have the Ext SD blank to begin with, you can always copy back its content from your pc.
4. Next copy the contents of the internal SD to the External SD card. This is to avoid confusion about apps and such.
5. Next install script manager free from the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...anager&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
It will show up on your phone as S manager ads.
You MUST install BusyBox too!! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
6. Download the mod from here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6305/SD Card Hack SG3/11extsd2internalsd
( save as ) And put it into the /data directory of your phone
7. You must edit this script for it to work on Mini. Change /mnt/sdcard to /storage/sdcard0 and /mnt/extSdCard to /storage/extSdCard
(This vary depending of your phone, so check where is located internal storage, it was /storage/sdcard0 for me, and the external SD, it was /storage/extSdCard for me.)
8. Open the script manager app, and select Browse as Root in the config screen. Tell it to remember this setting.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6305/SD Card Hack SG3/Script manager browse as root and save.png
9. Using Script Manager, navigate to that file in the /data directory. Press and hold the file name until the menu pops up, and click on properties.
(Unix geeks set them to 777, and everyone else copy the picture below. Click OK.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6305/SD Card Hack SG3/Permission settings 777.png
10. Click on the scipt now.. Click on the “Is script” button.
11. Now tap on the buttons that say Su, Boot, and Save. The file name will come up in yellow after the save.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6305/SD Card Hack SG3/Script manager setting after save.png
12. Reboot your phone and you should see the swap working and be able to access both internal and external SD cards. The external card will show up as sdcard, and the internal card will show up as extSDCard. Your apps should now install to the external card, since your phone will think it's the internal card. Is that confusing? It was to me too!
Good luck and please share your experiences specifying which ROM you used, so that others can avoid frustration.
Thank you’s always appreciated.

for big apps or games you need to put a additional "external" sdcard in your galaxy s3 mini..... for example i have installed the game "Need for Speed - Most Wanted" 1,8GB of the game is on my additinal "external" sdcard and the rest (40mb) are installed on device.....

Please take a look at my first post. I edited it with the solution.
Hi Jalubyc
I've just tried your solution above and my phone is showing under storage
Device memory Total space 4.54GB
Available 378Mb
SD Card Total Space 29.71GB
Available 27.12GB
So it looks like my first attempt didn't work
Problems I found were firstly at step 6, I couldn't download the mod on phone. I was using chrome and there is no (save as) option. I can only save the link. On PC I saved the page as a text doc and edited the sdcard and extsdcard bits before saving the script. Where is the /data directory? Am I supposed to create a "data" folder in the root of my internal sdcard or copy to the data folder in the android folder? I put it in the android/data/ folder and it didn't work.
Once this is working is it safe to delete the contents of sdcard0 to get my 4.54gb back. I also take it any ROM updates would revert everything back

Oh no you're totally out of the solution. The /data directory is at root of the phone, so not in a sdcard. Use chrome from your PC to save as and put in into your sdcard before putting it into the /data directory with ES Explorer or another file explorer that's supporting root.
For the ROM updates I don't know because I've never tried.
I still cannot save the script using 'save as' as I don't have the option. I have 'save link as' which saves it as a text document. Edited it as stated.
I've found the data folder but ES explorer wouldn't allow me to copy my script to it and is showing the folder as blank.I got root browser lite from the play store which worked okay in allowing me to copy to the data folder. I used s manager lite to do its stuff and rebooted. No success - .
I'm using Android version 4.1.2/ Build number JZO54K.I8190DXALL3 .
Are you positive about the /storage/ change to the script as I remember when using directory bind it was /mnt/extSdCard/ and /sdcard/.
There is a /mnt/sdcard/ too which contains the same files as other location so possibly script can run unchanged. Getting a bit frustrated now as I have an old HTC Desire with over 300 apps (70+ games) with internal memory of 137Mb out of 148Mb and 10Gb free on sdcard out of 32gb
---------- Post added at 02:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:42 PM ----------
Ok working now. Your script changes were correct. Device memory total space 29.71GB with 27.12GB free. Sd card total space 4.64gb with 800Mb free.
Now to get my full 4.64Gb back which folder contents do I delete? I think deleting the contents of extsdcard in my files. Thanks you've changed my phone from a very limited phone to something much better.
It is a bit strange way to solve free space problems.
I have 8GB version with 4.5GB free the box. When I installed all games and apps that I needed there was something about 800MB free.
My solution is simple:
1. install Directory Bind
2. Make link: mount="/sdcard/Android/", source="/storage/extSdCard/Android/" with "Transfer Files" option
3. Wait till the end of process (can take alot of time depends from your data)
4. Enjoy!
After this simple manipulations I got 3.6GB free in internal memory, installed 2 additional games (including Need for Speed Most Wanted with huge data) and it shows 3.4GB now.
You can make as much links as you want, of course. But moving "/sdcard/Android/" to external SD is enough
I tried directory bind and it just copied the contents of my internal sdcard to my external sdcard. It didn't move the contents as it was supposed to. I ended up with a copy of the files on both sdcards. If I tried to delete from my internal sdcard it also deleted the contents of my external sdcard. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what I had done wrong as I'd followed the instructions as far as I could tell. Now my phone is seeing a massive internal sd card and a 4Gb external sd card. I still can't get spiderman total mayhem to work though it throws up an error while downloading the game data
you should not bind root folders via directory bind. And it makes symlinks so it will looks like content does not deleted from internal SD but it shown from external SD already.
flashable zip
Hi!
Do you think that is possible to install the mod via a flashable zip?
Many thanks!
Yes it is possible. Take a look of the post for the galaxy s3, it is explained. But you must edit the script to make it working.

Not possible, we do not have a unlocked kernel, therefore we cannot load unsigned zips.

Sorry I don't understand what you've written. What do you mean do not use to bind root folders? What's a symlink? Are you saying the folders I'm seeing on sdcard0 are dummy folders and the contents have been moved to extsdcard? i have two questions:
1: What do i have to do with this data:
#!/system/bin/sh
#extsd2internalsd is a modification that allows to switch internal sd to external sd and viceversa. With this you can use default internal sd only for app storage #and the external sd to store all apps resource and all others stuff. The resut is a very big increase of installable apps on gs3

Symlink
symlink in human words is just a folder redirect.
For example, you have symlink that links folder "/storage/mydata/" to folder "/sdcard/mynewdata/"
When some application, system or user will try to get data from folder "/storage/mydata/", the data data from "/sdcard/mynewdata/" will be shown but folder path will be not changed.
You should not link root folders such as "/sdcard/", "/" ... coz it may prevent problems.
First of all reboot your phone to Recovery Mode then go to Advance option and then partition SD Card and select any size you want I recommend 512 MB as it can hold most of the things you want to install. Then wait until it finished partitioning process (REMEMBER TO BACKUP ALL YOUR SD DATA BEFORE PARTITIONING AS IT FORMATS YOUR SD IN THE PROCESS) and then download any of the scripts I recommend CronMod-INT2EXT+_signed (Download it from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124 ) as it supports EXT 2/3/4 filesystems and then copy it onto the root of your SD then go to mount settings in Recovery Mode and then mount sd-ext and then select install zip from SD Card then select CronMod-INT2EXT+_signed.zip and flash it then just reboot and you should have increased internal memory.
Here is the link to the video in which I flash Ultimatum The "A" Factor ROM and then increase the internal memory of Samsung Galaxy Ace S-5830.

THIS IS NOT THE CORRECT SITE TO POST THIS TUTORIAL...
Try my new method it is guaranteed by me to work... If it doesn't jump off a building...
when I try to install it, it gives me Status 2,

First of all reboot your phone to Recovery Mode then go to Advance option and then partition SD Card and select any size you want I recommend 512 MB as it can hold most of the things you want to install. Then wait until it finished partitioning process (REMEMBER TO BACKUP ALL YOUR SD DATA BEFORE PARTITIONING AS IT FORMATS YOUR SD IN THE PROCESS) and then download any of the scripts I recommend INT2EXTV2+ (Download it from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124 ) as it supports EXT 2/3/4 filesystems and then copy it onto the root of your SD then go to mount settings in Recovery Mode and then mount sd-ext and then select install zip from SD Card then select INT2EXTV2+.zip and flash it then just reboot and you should have increased internal memory.

Partitioning SD Card to Increase Internal Memory
Hey Guys,
(For this to work your phone must be rooted)
To increase the Internal Memory of Galaxy Ace is really easy. You don't need to do all these time killing steps. Just do as I do.
You can do this by Partitioning your SD Card. This means having a separation in your SD Card to store apps. Follow these steps :
1) Download Mini Tool Partition Wizard 7 on your PC.
2) Connect your SD Card to PC by an SD Card Adapter or connect your phone to PC by a USB Cable.
3) Open Mini Tool Partition Wizard.
4) You'll see a Disk 2 Region. In that you'll see your SD Card.
5) Right click on it and select Delete.
6) It'll show your SD Card as Unallocated.
7) Right click on it again and select Create.
8) A new Window opens.
In that, put the data as the following :
Partition Label : (As you wish)
Create as : Primary
File System : FAT32
Cluster Size : Default
Drive Letter : (As you wish)
Size and Location : Put Partition Size as the size of the SD Card you want.
The Unallocated size will be the size of your Partition.
9) Click OK
10) You'll see the Apply button on the Top-left Corner. Click on it. (Don't put your system in Power Saving Mode)
11) Wait for the procedure to be completed.
12) Now, Download Link2SD.apk on your system and move it to your SD Card.
13) Close every thing and Switch On your phone with the SD Card in it.
14) Install Link2SD.apk and open it.
15) Follow every thing as it says and restart your phone.
16) After that Select the app you want to move to the Partion.
17) Click on Create Link.
18) Move as much apps as you like...!
Hope that this helped you guys. Thanks :fingers-crossed:
Go and make your own thread the reply functions is provided to comment and ask questions and not to show some other method which you know of and which is not guaranteed... My guide is 100% guaranteed by me...

Exactly. Link2SD always worked better than any script for me.
Also, you can get it from the android market.
This worked great for me.. thanks for the help.. but I have a problem, I wanted to flash a kernel (from MHNK to BE1.6) but after flashing the kernel, I lost all the partition and my installed apps, I only wiped cache partition and dalvik cache in cwm. Do I have to do anything (like mount sd-ext) before flashing the kernel? But luckily I backed up my rom before flashing the kernel thus got back my partition. Help me please..

I would recommend that you mount everything except USB Storage and then try to flash the kernel... If it still doesn't work please don't be shy to ask me... :good:
i'm going to try this, i already increased my internal memory but the script was already on the rom
Hi
I have the Samsung galaxy S Advance (DULP8) and I want to root it. I followed the steps to root but when i copy the root.zip into my external memory card and then go try to flash that via stock recovery(update via external storage ) i don't see it ? in fact there is stuff that dosent belong to me like some song folders and such
I even tried copying the file in internal and external still no luck . I had the device earlier and it was running gingerbread then it got messed up and i sent to Samsung to repair they repaired it and returned with jellybean 4.1.2 installed :highfive:
I don't know what to do i am so frustrated and cofused about where the hell does the folders come from which i have no clue about ?
Also in the storage in settings there is three tabs
1.Device memory
2.Internal Storage
3.Sdcard
When i select update from external storage in recovery it dosent even go to my external sd ?
From recovery choose "install zip from external sdcard" don't use update.

Is there install? Or apply update from external storage?
Ok, I did not use stock recovery for a long time - I do not remember what is exacly. If you do not see anything from "update from external storage" you will need to REPARTITION your SD card. This is not formating, this is erasing partition and creating it again. Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
You will lose data from it, so I suggest you to backup it to a computer.
Sometimes you pasted your zip on a folder that is down below than those that stock recovery displays
So what you have to do is: go to your file explorer (personally I use ES file explorer) and enable display of hidden files, then some folders with . will appear so try pasting the zip on one of those folders
If stock recovery doesn't show anything when apply updates is pressed, then you'll have to do what shut_down said
Stock Recovery does show things in External storage

You need to put root.zip on EXTERNAL SD. It is not shown in INTERNAL.
This might work but first you need to backup all your data: from ext-sd and from usb storage.
Then factory reset you phone. After that format your ext-sd with sistem file "FAT32" . When done with that put only the "root.zip" on the sd.
After all above is done try to install the root file with stock recovery.
P.S If this doesn't work you might be stuck on the stock JB for a long time.
