Gps problem - Motorola Droid 3

Hey i have a question. My droid 3 for some reason doesnt lock on gps. Ive tried to change the settings and still nothing. I downloaded gps status and still nothing. If i cant get it to lock on does verizon give me a replacment for this problem.

@arglmr - let us know if RoadToNever's app helps. I'm trying to find a solution for my (remote at college) daughter's D3 that's having the same problem.

Same here. I found another solution on some forum - install GPS Test from Google play, open Settings, hit Clear AGPS then Update AGPS. Use with airplane mode, and power cycle, if it doesn't do the trick the 1st time.
It didn't work for me, but it might for someone else... Will try fasterfix as soon as I get outdoors.
I am located in Moscow, Russia, but the issue also occurred all over Thailand, so it's not about location.

On my droid 3 I have noticed that as of late my gps has been acting up as well.
Since my droid 1 I have been amazed at how good the gps units in the Motorola fones are. But as of late my fone has been fast to see almost 7 satellites right away but it won't lock on to any.
I use GPS Status (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en) and I usually have to cycle the gps off then back on. But once I do that and goto GPS Status it will connect.

Try these GPS settings

Disable (and do not enable even after we're done here) Use Wireless Networks under Settings ---> Location and Security.
Go into LbsTestMode (*#*#1472365#*#*)
Go to Application Settings
Enable MS-Based Mode
Increase Accuracy to 100
Leave the rest stock
Return to the main LbsTestMode menu
Go to SUPL/CP Settings
Select the Serve FQDN Type drop down menu
Hit AUTO Config
Exit to the dialer and reboot your Vibrant twice for good measure.
If the accuracy of your location degrades try using the stock www.spirent-lcs.com settings again.
Now from what I can tell, Google Maps works much better with these settings. The first lock takes 15-40 seconds depending on your view of the sky(indoors/out). You may get a "Location Unavailable" message from the first hit of My Location but it should come around shortly after.
The accuracy is good enough for in-car tracking. Haven't testing walking yet
I'll report back if I find that the GPS eventually ****s the bed and takes much longer for the subsequent fresh fixes.. which seems to be the trend for a new Vibrant. Also, moving your hand away from the GPS antenna will make things quicker. It's to the far right of the camera.
lemme give this thing a shot...hope this works

I must've deleted which MS - Mode but make sure it's MS-Based and not Assisted. Make sure you leave Wireless Networks off completely as well because this will prevent a GPS fix in GMaps for some reason.
Let me know if it works any better!
I gotta say so far this is the best fix yet I did everything but had to reboot a third time cause for some reason I wasn't connecting to data, but after that it was golden I did the satellite test and it got 14 satellites in about 5 seconds so it seems to me that this works the best. Thanks for the find, but what does skyhook do you have the option to turn it on or off what's the difference?
Thanks
Thank you sir for this fix..i just tested this and i got my gps lock with in 10 sec...Cheers!

seems to be some sort of location based software...might be worth a shot
Nice Fix - thanks, works well
will this method help at all with My Location being set to Pawcatuck, CT (when I'm in Houston, TX) while indoors? Problem occurs randomly.
WOW it works took less than 10 seconds to get a signal indoors.
Thanks.

I can't say for sure since I've never had this problem. Maybe someone else has and will try this otherwise, the only way for you to know would be to try it out. If AUTO-Config gives you these problems move back to spirent-lcs

***Most importantly, we have to see if this lasts or not! I noticed some weirdness on AUTO-Config and I'm going to be trying out Spirent for the time being.

I live in Houston, and I get that randomly when I'm at work. I have that problem with the old and new Vibrant. The new Vibrant, locks on my location when I step outdoors though with no problem at all. I'm just testing this FIX to see will it fix the indoor problem, but so far, it just showing me I cant find a location.
Edit: After 5min it found my location... Running the GPS Test and it actually locks on and off 1 Satellite..

Cool, doing the fix now.
For indoor the new method does not get me a GPS lock. For outdoors I didn't have problems using the previous fix.

Samsung has now officially acknowledge this problem and has promised a fix
See:

So I did this change and got 11 satellites in my office in the GPS Test option from those test mode settings BUT GMaps still says unavailable. Any advice?
Man I am so bummed...i really wanted this to work...i don't use the gps sll the time but I use it enough that I am almost regretting my purchase..i hope I can get a gps lock tonight so I can actually find my way...this is really frustrating

What is it with people in Houston all having this problem. I wonder if it is just the area we are all in (I work near the Medical Center.) I want to trade my phone in for a new one but if its going to have the same problem I am not sure it would be worth it. Are you having the problem still after you switched yours out? Is anyone else getting the error of "Not enough space in music database" when trying to listen to music and selecting the "Artist" category?
I'm in Houston and its always saying I'm in Houston and I tested the gps while in my truck and its great but indoors its not that great... but is need it more in my truck anyway so who cares lol
Anyone else having issues with the settings in the LbsTestMode menu not sticking? I was able to implement one of the posted fixes here before, but not this one as the settings will not stay. They change successfully on each screen, but as soon as I go back and then return to the screen, they are back to where they started. I can even confirm the settings did not change at the bottom of the main LbsTestMode menu with the status display. I've turned off the Wireless Networks setting under location before trying this many different times, reboots out the wazoo and at different stages(tried changing the setting, rebooting immediately without checking it again and no go). Also did a 'Delete GPS Data' with no help.
*edit* It appears I can change the SUPL server address and port just fine, but the operation mode change from MS Based to Standalone does not stay.

[Q] Problem with GPS - never locks

Anyone else having problems using the GPS on this device? I've tried several different GPS apps and none are working. The problem is that is finds 2-3 satellites, but never gets locked.

1 - Download "GPS Status & Toolbox" (EclipSim) from market
2 - Enable Location from Settings in order to use A-GPS data.
3 - Enable Use GPS from Settings
4 - Run "GPS Status & Toolbox" and then go to "GPS Status & Toolbox" menu where you can clear A-GPS and then download newest A-GPS data.
If you can't get a fix after this, you might have faulty SW or HW
You could also try "GpsFix" from the Market.

Thanks I'll give them a try.
I've now also tried to pair this phone with my holux m 1000 (bluetooth), but can't even get that to work. I managed to pair them, but it won't connect to the phone.
Is it just mine or is this phone so useless?
i am having the same problem too
Hi,
I'm using Sygic Mobile Maps 10 8.2 and Google Maps (unlocked with navigation). Both work fine with GPS and fix is within 5 sec.
Yet to try my stereo Bluetooth headset, will try in a sec ...
Edit: Headset at work, will try tomorrow...
This phone is very good for gps navigation.
Google Maps Navigation, Sygic Mobile Maps 10, Copilot Live, Navigon and Igomyway are working fine. They give me a lock within a few seconds.
A few tips:
Under Settings - Location and Security:
- enable using wireless networks
- enable GPS-satellites
If you're using WiFi the fix will be faster then without.
Oh yes, and one more thing: don't forget to insert your SIM-card.
For me to get gps fix, i need to stand outdoor without any roof on top of me, this is so bad if I'm indoor and beside a window, i can see a few satellites but it just wont lock on.
Is this software problem? I don't wish that it is my hardware problem

lol its a gps you use it outdoor not indoor. is not designed to work indoor. so i can't see you problem?
Fixed it!
I called LG, and got the recipe for fixing the gps.
Do a "hard factory reset"
Turn off phone
hold HOME and VOLUME DOWN and POWER until you see the android. Then wait.
Done. It now sees 10 satelittes indoors, and uses them all, as opposed to maybe seeing one, and never using any.

thx for helping
LG made a booboo.
There is no gps.conf in /system/etc, so there is no assistance. I pushed the file from a Nexus One (attached) into place and that sorts it.

erm.. sorry... a newbie here... what do u precisely do with this file?
thx
I tried to use gps.conf and supl method but no luck, the issue weren't there. My gps was a jerk, last week i spent 30minutes to fix the satellite while driving in town. Even standing under the sky, the fastest I am able to fix is 200seconds, not to mention there are many times they wont even fix.
But my problem was stopped once i changed from stock to other rom. so I guess there is something else wrong in the stock rom, as the other roms are able to perform well even without gps.conf. (around 20-30 sec fix time).
So I guess only when your gps is able to lock satellite, gps.conf will help to speed it up. At least that's what happen to me

[Q] How is the GPS?

Hi Everybody,
I am very interested in purchasing the Tmo-US version of this phone when it is avaliable and I would like to know how is the GPS on these phones? How fast does it lock and for those who are coming from SGS, can you see a big difference in GPS performance? I am currently using a SGS vibrant on tmo-us and GPS is very bad on it. Thanks
better than thge galaxy s.
First time i used it it took like 10 minutes to lock on lol, but then each time after that pretty much instant (or close enough)!
Not perfect for mine, sometimes under the sky also cant lock any satellite or scan no satellite in car. But other people are getting pretty good result though. That's why i am not sure it's my problem or not.
I edited the gps.conf file for my location (not sure if neccesary, but had the file from my previous HD2 so figured wtf..)
gps locks in 15 seconds when outside
Mine is MUCH snappier than my previous HTC desire
Best gps I've experienced on a phone. Better than my omnia, hero and my wife's galaxy s, which is terrible
Thanks for the quick replies. I am sure with some new updates the performance will improve even better. I cant wait to get my hands on G2x now.
Also extremely happy with the GPS. Using MileageTrac everyday, and the GPS locks within 3-4 secs every time.
GPS is perfect. It locks satellites in 7-20 seconds. Accuracy is 5m.
so a few more uses and yeah still instant. thumbs up!
for those who got fast gps fix time, may I know what baseband are you guys using?
Can it be used for car navigation like the Desire HD? Anyone tried it?
I think I fixed mine.
Solution was (at least one among them)
- push appropriate gps.conf to /system/etc
- modify APN type of Mobile data to "default, supl"
- turn off wireless while aquiring GPS fix
My GPS now fixes within seconds with mobile data enabled.
Have any of you tried GPS Status? It helped alleviate slow-to-lock AGPS issues on my Incredible. If you launch the app, it forces a new download of the carrier's GPS file. GPS lock went from 2-3 minutes on some buggy ROMs to under 20 seconds.
It's not the most elegant of solutions, but it works.

yup, quite a few times works great.
I agree. Use it everyday. It seems more stable than the DHD with better signal lock.
The demo unit at the T-mobile store I went to yesterday had a horrible GPS.
It would freeze up google maps and wouldn't lock AT ALL when the satellite antennae was turned on.
With the antennae turned on, google maps worked, but the circle for your location was huge (obviously).

Did you try GPS on any other phones? Signal could have been bad inside the building.
Being a Vibrant owner, with all its GPS issues, I'm very interested in how the this works on the G2X before I consider switching.
Thanks.
Worked fine whilst I was out today. Only problem was a lack of a data connection.

[Q] searching for gps

Ok please help.... take atrix back i was within my 30 days and got the thrill yaaa love it . Now i can never get a gps lock once i did a half hour later not acceptable in open sunny clear skys.... Now what ive tried to remedy this situation take phone back got new one same thing tried one on display same thing . Went to the market downloaded gps status ,gps fix, rebooted ,data wipe im not rooted fyi hard reset no dice . im losing patience at this point im in sales and gps is much needed i called lg they said send it to them 2week turnaround and they wil fix it or give me a refurb i send new you send me refurb ok lol any suggestions from here would love to try ive searched this forum and optimas3d for resolution none to be found I cant be the only one i tried 4 lg thrills all the same and yes gps is ticked on it locates maps from data but provides no gps just sits there searching and no im not in a cave this is outside not even in the car.
if it helps for a fix i can root
i will root if anybody believes this would help cmon people no ideas at all please .
Do you have data turned on? I gotta ask because a GPS lock can take a while without data or wifi turned on.
Have you tried GPS Status from the market? If you download that and then go to menu>tools>download. It will download new gprs data which will help with GPS lock time.
Sent from my LG-P925 using Tapatalk
Even without Data turned on it should take no where near that long. I always have data turned off and it finds GPS within a minute usually. Now if your going to use google maps you Have to have data turned on which is slightly annoying but eh I downloaded Navigon for that specific reason. Navigon stores the maps on the SD card so I don't need to have active data and Only GPS Fix. Anyway if that is your issue attempt Navigon as it is an "Offline" solution that Only requires GPS Fix.
Yes if tried all of what's been mentioned above even recalibration on my Wifi data everything I can think off Att support wow hard reset is the extent of there support.

GPS Problem on Kitkat

Hello guys.
Recently (1 month ago) I bought a Motorola XT1058, and the phone is really good. But after I upgraded to Kitkat (not exactly after, I don't know exactly when) I can't get a GPS fix, no matter how many time I wait, or weather conditions or whatever.
That said, I sent my cellphone to Motorola, wait about 20 days to it return, and to my surprise, they say there is NO PROBLEM, hardware-wise. But still, I can't get a position fix on GPS. Using High Precision mode, I get the estimated position, by using WiFi + GSM. But I can't get position using GPS.
So, Motorola say everything is fine hardware-wise, but the GPS simply don't work!
Anyone may help me?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the bad English.
have you tried factory resetting? have you tried using the app GPS Status to obtain a GPS signal? Not sure if the GPS is and or can be set to specific regions? but maybe that's all the case and would just need changing?
Can you get a fix in airplane mode?
