Broken Power button - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi..
One of my friends has a Note but his power button is broken. He hasn't really contacted service center for repair coz he didn't really miss anything about the button..but now if he wants to root...flash rom etc..is it even possible to do that without a functional power button?
Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app

there are mods for ics .. like a toggle for reboot .. which when u press gives 3 options (reboot / recovery / download).
but i dont think it will be possible to boot in to recovery without the power button if the phone has a bootloop or stuck at startup.

You can flash roms but it would be really dangerous
If anything goes wrong after flashing a rom and got stuck, you cant enter recovery or download mode

No you wrong,
If its Custom Rom may you can use RomManager And Reboot into Recovery Mode,Then Advanced,Reboot into Download....

its possible to enter recovery, download mode without that button, but if you get bootloop you will need it so send it to repair

Safe mode in stock roms.

Did you know that there is a safe mode in our OB, i don't know why its needed but i guess if you have installed an app which has caused your phone to crash you don't need to wipe everything and install the rom again, you can just boot into safe mode and uninstall the faulty app and reboot your phone into normal mode.
none of the user installed apps show up in the safe mode, just the stock apps LG pre-installed.
When turning on your phone keep pressing the G-button and you will boot into safe mode.
Hit the thanks button if i helped in any way.

Not really! I said the safe mode not the recovery mode. Plus the OB has no key combo to enter into recovery mode.

Are you SURE your rom is pure stock?
Because there is G-key combination to enter recovery mode while booting on custom roms. I could never get a 'safe mode' on stock roms...
Maybe I'll try this later when I'll goto stock rom again XD

You can manage installed application, when phone fail to boot due to any buggy application.
"Safe mode" remembering me those old days on PC, when playing with shareware applications then it refuse to uninstall. Then this Safe mode was only the way...

Galaxy Note 7000 Home button Issue

hi everybody
I bought this phone and the home button not working
first i want somebody to tell if have a custom rom or is the original ICS (See attachment)
Second, how can i check the button, like before boot
victorlht88 said:

you can try flashing another rom via odin, i've faced the same issue before when i removed certain apks in custom roms before flashing.
else boot into recovery mode and see if your home button can function when you make the selections.

Stock Recovery !
The G-Note has a stock recovery function as well. Just turn off your phone and hold the volume-up + Home + Power to enter into recovery. if this is successful then your home button functionality is good.

[Q] In reboot loop with no access to recovery mode

Hi,
I was trying to install 2.3.6 DDKQ6. The Odin process finished successfully and restarted the phone. But now the phone is in a boot loop. It keeps getting restarted after 2 seconds. I can't get to recovery mode.
I can access download mode but flashing even again (different ROM) doesn't work.
Please help me
Edited 10-22-2012: Still no solution found. I have tried many ROMS and even tried to flash stock recovery. Senior members, please suggest next step
Please, anyone has a solution to this problem?

Make sure the rom is in your region. Dont install a rom from another country. Try get to recovery mode with button combination. Search for more tutorials.

As long as ur phone is bootlooping, it can enter in stock recovery. So, take out battery, re-insert it, goto STOCK recovery & do "wipe data/factory reset" & wipe cache. It worked for me & for most of us too!!

I have tried the recovery button combination a lot of times. I believe recovery comes after the logo screen? But my phone keeps rebooting before even showing the logo screen.

I think
first comes the Samsung logo (no matter which ROM u have installed).
then comes your device logo (varies with the kernel installed).
then boot-screen.
If you press home+power button u will enter into the stock recovery console(if cwm or other recovery is not installed).
And if you don't press the home+power button then you will boot normally.
Be on the safe side
Press home+power button until u see the recovery console.
Most of the boot-loops can be solved by wiping up cache and factory reset.
Hope this will solve your problem.
Edit:
Try some after market ROMs they are way more fast and efficient than stock Samsung GB ROM. Try Apocalypse or
Democracy.
Just hold the power button and home button... release it when you see SAMSUNG.. flash the rom again if still you dont get any help...

I think you have bricked your phone... if its a soft brick then you need to be able to boot to Recovery... To check whether you can Boot to Recovery or not, Hold Volume Up Key + Home Button + Lock/Unlock Button (all at same time) to boot to Recovery or Download Mode... if it works then Reply me

Anyways op just flash a 9070p rom through recovery mode and you are good to go. And i am not going to post any links to guides or shizz. Search yourself. Also do not pm me.

I was also going to tell him the same thing you told...
To the OP (Mohammed Ghanem)...
If you can boot to recovery/download mode... that will be a good news for you... just go to sammobile and download i9070p firmware with proper PDA and region code and also download Odin.. (this will take some time)
Then connect you phone with your computer and boot your phone to recovery... then open Odin, flash the firmware...
This should fix your problem...

How is download mode inaccessible ?
Recovery and download mode are two different things. Recovery is in kernel. Dl mode is the bootloader. How in the world did you manage to mess the bootloader ?
Try pressing all the hardware buttons together. And make sure that the battery is working/charged.
Sami : As i already said, recovery and download are different things. Please get your facts straight or you will help someone to brick.

Put your phone for at least half hour on charger. After that press those buttons in the same time: Volume down, Home button (the one on the bottom of the phone, hardware one) and Power button. See if the Download mode comes up. Just like you did when you flashed this wrong fw.
@shaan: Lol i know the difference between Download Mode and Recovery Mode
I was telling the OP to try to go to any of them... I wanted to see whether he can access them or not... i assumed that he's rooted so i thought that he can obviously go to Recovery (as twrp is added to the rooted kernel here in xda)...
sorry if he or you misunderstood

Maybe it is not reseting our binary counter because we have locked bootloader.
Edit:
Samsung’s latest firmware disables the USB Jig binary counter reset, so the best thing to do after rooting your latest firmware is to install the old bootloader then use the Jig tool to reset the binary counter and remove the yellow boot up warning thingy.

You can do it yourself, he said that you lost your boot. So you can download your original firmware, and flash it with odin. As you did first time, with wrong one.

Wow .. Your solution is easier than mine I should have known that method earlier ... Usually .. when I stuck in bootloop ... I will Force the phone to enter Recovery Mode ...
1.Press the Download Mode Key Combination ( VOL down + Home + Power )
2.After that, the phone will warn you right ?? Choose cancel (VOL down)
3.After you pressed Vol Down the phone will try to reboot .
4.When the phone try to reboot, press the Recovery Mode key combination BUT without pressing power button. Press ONLY the three button.
5.The phone will enter recovery Mode.
6.Full wipe the Phone and/or restore your backup.
It works for me EVERYTIME ..
If it is not working for you, just try again .. Your timing in STEP 4 must be PERFECT !!
