[Q] cannot use *#7465625# after CM9 mod - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just upgrade my Captivate to CM9 ICS from GB. When I enter *#7465625# to check the lock status. Nothing happens. I remember it worked fine when I did this prior to the upgrade. Is it nornal? or did I break anything?
Thanks.

You didn't break anything . Pretty much all the special codes I've ever used stops working on ICS and JB. That being said I'm guessing you're wanting to check your GPS lock status. Download GPS Test from the play store and that should show you everything you'll ever want to know about your lock status.

I might not be very clear in my question, Sorry.
I actually want to vertify if my phone is locked or unlocked after the upgrade; like using *#06# to review the IMEI.

I wasn't able to find a good solution for this either (did an unlock a couple weeks ago). I had to just try it with a SIM card from a phone on another network.

Once unlocked ---- Always unlocked.
And the reason those USSD Codes won't work...basically from what lil I know...is because they are either Samsung ussd codes or Carrier Specific Codes and therefore you need to be on a Stock Firmware for them to work (like m1batt1 was pointing out). --- Although some may by chance work.

There is a flashable zip that will restore the *#*#2263#*#* code on the Cappy which let's you change modem frequencies but I don't think it restores that code. Browse through the Slim threads. I'm on my phone and cannot link the zip.

i think my captivate got an automatic update.
How do i know the nvdata.bin file has been deleted?
is there anyway to unlock if the nvdata.bin has been deleted ?
FYI I ran the market app from " DaGentooBoy" which also not able to find the unlock code. am I screwed ?
Why do you want to unlock?
Are you planning on switching to another GSM carrier or going overseas?
Are you planning on selling the phone on eBay and buying a different phone?
Or do you only want to unlock for the sake of saying you have an unlocked phone?
If you answered no, no, and yes (in that order) to any of those questions then you don't NEED to unlock.
Also, it was documented that upgrading to JH7 or JI6 deleted the nvdata.bin file from your phone, thus eliminating the possibilty of unlocking after you upgraded. You should have done it straight from JF6 when you got the phone, and backed up that file for future use. It pays to read and research.

boi.. i guess ur screwed then.. well there was a method to reset the unlock code to anything u want but u gotta search for it yourself in the forums here......dunno if that worked out for anyone....
also try searching the forums.....the nvdata.bin file i guess doesnt get deleted but the place where the unlock code is written gets filled with buffer values...
again, i guess i read somewhere there is a method to get past that but even that only worked out for some....
i could search the forums for ya, but im in office an cant do so now....
just keep on searching in the forums...ull surely find the solution....
also, this is what ive read only in some forums that people pay around $25 to get their cell phones unlocked by giving their IMEI number or sumthng of that sort......am not from the USA so really have no clue about it.....

One way the unlock code could have gone missing is if the owner of the Captivate flashed to the leaked Froyo build and back to stock. As it is a leaked build it couldn't have been automatic afaik.
mine is a JH7 phone and i got the unlock code =D. at first i couldnt find it by the PC method. it wouldnt work. it gave me an error sagint the nv_file.bin wasnt there. and i searched for it and it wasnt. i thought i was screwed so factory reset, then i rooted my phone, enable sideloading using unleash the beast. After all that, i went to android market and search for "froyo" and supprisingly i found a unlocker that worked. (looks like a padlock perhaps 5th in the list) i installed it and ran it, IT FOUND IT!!! was so happy since im not even in USA and i can use it on any provider =D

You are correct. T-Mo's 3G frequency is different from AT&T's. T-Mo uses the 1700/2100Mhz range for their 3G while AT&T uses the 850/1900Mhz range. The only frequency range the companies share is the 900Mhz band which is 2G

[Q] Just bought a captivate, No Signal is displayed and baseband version is "unknown"
Please, I need your help, I just bought a Captivate for my GF, we live in Honduras, Central America and the phone was supposedly sent unlocked, she inserted the sim card and the phone did not asked for any code, but, it has no signal, it is currently displaying "no Service", and when she goes to look at her baseband version, It displays "unknown"!
It has a crappy ICS rom, since Im an Nexus one owner I dont know a thing about this phone version!
Can you PLEASE! help me?
Can I just flash a CM nightlie over this ****ty ICS rom?
Do I have to upgrade or downgrade anything else?
Please, any help is welcome!
I assume you probably have, but are the APN settings correct?
You can probably flash a CM7 nightly over it. Worst case, it doesn't work and you have to flash back to stock first and try again.
It sounds like you don't have a working modem. If flashing CM7 doesn't fix it, flash a CM7-compatible modem and see if that fixes it.

Lolz good advice...just in the wrong order...
I would flash the modem first....cause it is the least invasive (doesn't wipe anything) and most likely will work.
Roms contain modems, so if fishing as ROM didn't fix it fishing a modem after that is just spinning your wheels.
BUT, since op doesn't even like the ROM...just flash to kk4 stock.
I would also make door that the phone is actually unlocked...but aosp doesn't have the same dialer codes to just dial and check, and i don't know those.

I agree that it is less invasive, but he already said he wanted to go to CM7 so I figured he could skip a step if the flash actually worked. He bought the phone this way so who knows what the previous owner did to it. Both ways should fix his issue though (unless his phone is locked, as you pointed out).
If you flash to the most recent nightly or a kang, the Samsung dialer codes work to check your lock status.

So, thank you guys for helping me, heres what I did:
A friend told me that since I had ICS on it, I had to flash a compatible modem on it, I flashed I9000BVJJPD which is used on cm9.
When it turned on, It asked for an unlock pin, I tried to generate it with the SGSunlock app but didnt worked, so I downgrade it to cm7 (2.3.7) and tried again but with no success...
Tomorrow morning Ill take it to an unlock shop so it can be unlocked (hopefully).
Does the modem that I flashed is the correct one for a network that uses 850 bands?
I heard that some captatives erased the imei causing the "unknown baseband" issue, I dialed *#06# and it retrieved the imei code so, it isnt ****ed right?
any help is welcome, Ill let you guys know how it goes.
thanks!

No such thing..every phone acts differently, not to mention the signal at your location is a huge variable we can't factor in.

I know, but, for example, developers say that the lastest is the best, but, you only can say if you test them...
But, have you test some of them? Which gave you the best result?
I always include jk4 in my roms as a good standard.

I understand your dilemma. You look at a list of 50 modems and go, "Where do I even start?"
Personally, I have tried lots of different modems, old and new, and I always come back to KP1. I think it's worth adding to your list of modems to try out. I would also try JJJV5 and KG3.

Note re-locked again??!!

Hi, folks...
After a long time, I have a problem with my Note...
Many, many weeks ago I rooted and unlocked my Note, and all was going well... It is just in the recent day, or two that I noticed that suddenly I don't have access to SMS service, calls, or Internet... I thought it was provider's fault, but after inserting other network's SIM card I got the same problem...
I think I might have re-locked itself somehow... I tried again using Galaxy S unlock method, but it changes nothing... is it possible that the phone unrooted itself, or that some update (no ICS, I am not touching that yet! ) messed up something?
Awaiting for your helpful response...

I don't think it may have auto locked.
You are on GB ROM then try
-Factory reset
still dont work, then
-Reflash ROM
This shud work, if still doesn't work then reason to believe it has been locked.
Is your IMEI still showing correctly?

Locked, as in SIM locked.
Will try factory reset in the evening (London) and see what happens...
What do you mean if my IMEI is still showing correctly? How should I know what is wrongly showing of IMEI?

I am having the same problem or at least similar. The phone was running fine on both paranoid android and chracks rom. I flashed Crash v7 yesterday, still fine. I decided to go back to Chrack since there was an update. When I did that, safely, the first pop-up I got was "enter network unlock code key" message. I tried the galaxy_s unlock, didn't work. The only backup that I had left was the Crashv7 so I restored that. I got the same message now but galaxy_s unlock DOES work on it. Though, I never had to use it before. I have been at this trying to figure it out for over 8 hours. I believe it has something to do with the new roms and the CSC regions. I have been searching the forums all night and now today I see more people experiencing problems.
I would like to ask a few question here,
Why do we need to change the CSC regions? Other than Kies updating, what difference does it make? I have not found the answer anywhere. I am in the US and have never had to deal with this b.s. before. Web searches I have seen seem to all refer these to Samsung phones. Are they the only company that does this?
My N7000 is from Sweden, NEE(XEE) csc. The rom that is working for me now has a csc of: EUR. I was under the impression that with custom roms it didn't matter what the csc but now I am starting to doubt that.
Any true help out there? Anyone in the states or anywhere else suffering from the same problem? I just think it strange that the phone would re-lock itself but only stay locked on newer roms(any after July 25th) and the unlock app only works on the older roms.
Sorry for this long post.
Edit: When the sim unlock app doesn't work, imei says "unknown"
Edit 2: Looking at other threads it looks like this isn't isolated. I guess there is a problem with the new lrk or whatever it is. It's re-locking units and galaxy_s unlock isn't working.
Yeah, I would also say that some time around middle of this week, this issue became apparent to me... I really didn't use the Note much for the last two weeks, so when I wanted to send an SMS, I thought it was the network playing up (2, or 3 times a year it has problems with service, which is ok with me, since they give a great deal for £10, and I don't need a non-stop connectivity...
I am knackered after today's ride, so I will try and deal with the issue tomorrow...
Oh... I did factory restore and rooting and flashing and the whole procedure of installing busybox and galaxy s unlock app and doing everything I remember doing the first time I unlocked my Note, but unfortunately it keeps saying "Network not available."
Has anybody got any idea why some Note re-SIMlock themselves, even though this method of SIM unlock is supposed to be permanent...
What should I do now? Install other stokk GB firmware, or risk it with some custom ROMs?
I am so sad...

I have found that any custom rom built on the LRI/LRK radios do not work for us users with sim-relock. Best to stay on older roms that aren't built from those sources. Sucks, I know. :crying:

AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW.....
A week and a bit back I had this sim lock problem with the Note, tried stuff in this thread, nothing worked, just fo find it today, when I picked it up to go and try flashing God knows what I'd pick, and turn it on, and IT IS UNLOCKED!!!
I was like a small pig when you give it some corn...
Phew, that is a stone off my heart...
But, how? Is it possible that maybe some Kies update, or some other app update brought about the re-locking of the NOTE?
Still, what made it work now, after so much time and failures?

Need to flash stock rom from cwm

Hi, here's the story, I flashed CM10 but because I'm new with this phone model I didnt new I had to bacup my eff folder, so when I flashed CM10 it changed my imei, now I cant make any calls or whatever that requires network, I read in here and other forums that I can repair that going back to stock gingerbread but the thing is that I suddenly I can't enter download mode, I tried entering through "adb reboot download" and it only reboots, I tried with the volume +/- pluging usb cable but it still doesnt works, the only method I havent tried yet is with the jig, which I would have to buy or make myself, so I was wondering if I can flash the stock rom from cwm, I couldnt find any zip of that rom, only the odin ones, could you please tell me if I can do that? or gime me a link to the stock cwm flashable rom?

I'm in a similar situation for a different reason. My USB port is broken (bought phone used and it came with a beta CM9). Having problems with not getting any mobile service so I want to flash back to stock and start there. While I'm a software developer, I'm new to smartphones so I want to make sure I get this right.
It seems I can't just download the one-click because it needs USB. You said above that "Mobile Odin" could be used with the one-click if you have root. I assume I do, but what is the tell-tale sign of that? From all my reading so far it seems you can lose it also. Anyway, so if I d/l Mobile Odin from the Play store and d/l one-click with root onto my SD card, I should be good to go - just run the app, select the file and follow the instructions and I'll be back to stock Froyo?
Thank you!

If you are on CM9 then you are most definitely rooted. However if you want to check go to your app drawer and check for a superuser icon or Super SU icon. If you have either one of those you're good to go. I've personally never used Mobile Odin but I would have to say what you described sounds like the right steps. My question to you is why not go to gingerbread instead of froyo?

Yep, I have the icon. Why do you sometimes lose root when flashing a different ROM? I wouldn't think simply having that app is all there is to it. Anyway, I noticed after I posted my query that the Pro version of Mobile Odin has "EverRoot" so you never lose root apparently.
I figured I'd start with Froyo since that is what my phone should have shipped with and what my new carrier expects. If I still don't see any mobile networks, I figure I'm down to a SIM or hardware problem. I can get wifi on my home network fine, but I live in the middle of a city and see nothing show up when I do a Search for Network Operators. Perhaps I'm wrong being new to these, but I would think I should see at least AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile appear on a list when I search.
The odd thing is when I do Automatically Select a network operator is says I'm "registered on network" yet there's no signal (-110+ dbM and 0-1 asu) and phone status shows me as unknown network and disconnected.
If it does work with Froyo, I'll work my way to GB and ICS and back to CM to see where it breaks.

Well pretty much every custom ROM you install is rooted from the start. If you were on a stock setup you wouldn't be rooted unless you had done it yourself.
With your current setup go to settings>about phone> status and compare the imei listed there with the one under your battery. Also check settings>about phone and look for your baseband. If your imei matches but your baseband says unknown then you are missing a modem and that's fixable without going back to stock. If the imei doesn't match then your efs folder has been erased or corrupted and you will definitely have to go back to stock.
Also if that's the case once you get back to stock backup your efs folder to prevent future issues.

So flashing back to stock WITH bootloader keeps the root (but then you're not technically 100% stock since it didn't come that way).
IMEIs match.
Baseband is I9000UGKG3. I'd also thought of trying a diff modem but this one works for others obviously. I'm in the Midwest if that makes a difference.
Other Status info...
Network: Unknown
Mobile network type: GPRS:1
Service State: Out of Service
Mobile Network state: Disconnected
It does list my correct phone number
IMEI SV: 09
Another newbie question: whenever I do finally get service, how can you tell what speed the data connection is?
Thank you for your help.

So flashing back to stock WITH bootloader keeps the root (but then you're not technically 100% stock since it didn't come that way).
IMEIs match.
Baseband is I9000UGKG3. I'd also thought of trying a diff modem but this one works for others obviously. I'm in the Midwest if that makes a difference.
Other Status info...
Network: Unknown
Mobile network type: GPRS:1
Service State: Out of Service
Mobile Network state: Disconnected
It does list my correct phone number
IMEI SV: 09
Another newbie question: whenever I do finally get service, how can you tell what speed the data connection is?
Thank you for your help.

Actually stock with boot loaders is just that. Bone stock with the boot loaders added into the flash package you won't be rooted with that package.
The fact that your imei is correct and you have a modem but still have no service is concerning... are you using it on att or are you trying to use a different carrier?
As far as data speed when you're up and running use a speed test app from the play store.

I'll worry about figuring out root stuff later if needed.
Phone was supposed to be unlocked. I'm using it on an MVNO that uses T-Mobile's network. I get no errors or messages when inserting the SIM card so assume I am indeed unlocked. It does load 3 APNs that happen to also use T-Mobile but I must manually enter the APN for my carrier, which I've triple checked with their support.
I'm leaving now to swap SIM cards from the same service on a known good phone to see if mine works in that phone or that one works in mine.

I could be very wrong but it sounds like you're not actually unlocked. Or as you're checking your sim is messed up

Hmmm, is there some way to check other than throwing in a random SIM? Unfortunately, my SIL's phone is newer so she had a smaller SIM card
Most people seem to get a card locked message if they are not unlocked and install a non-AT&T SIM.

It's not the easiest thing in the world to do but I couldn't come up with a different way... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
That is actually a link to a tutorial on how to go about unlocking it. The way I see it is if you follow the steps you'll know if it was already unlocked and be able to unlock it if not.
I know that the process works because I followed it to unlock my own captivate.
Edit: I did the manual way and did not use any of the apps listed.

Well if your imei is correct, you have a modem, and you verified you're unlocked... the only thing left is either bad sim or hardware issue with the phone

Seems that way. I'll still try to wipe as clean as I can back to stock and see if there's something wacky in the software that's preventing signal.

Check the sticky thread in the development section for the one clicks and flash back to kk4 stock. It is bone stock and then you can move back up from there. It will not touch your unlock though.

I picked up another used Captivate and this one works. It came with KK4 and a good USB port. I'll flash something onto it soon once I learn how to properly back up everything.

[Q] i9000 Emergency Calls Only

Ok,
Before I get flamed... I've read 30 or posts about this.... both here and other forums, so here we go:-
It's a i9000 from Orange UK. I paid my £20 and got an unlock code off the internet, and it's stopped complaining about the O2 Sim in it now, but all I get is 'Emergency Calls Only'
I've tried stock roms, ezbase recovery, CM9 and CM10 and no matter what, I get 'Emergency Calls Only'
I checked:-
SIM connections are clean (and SIM in the right way round!)
IMEI matches the one on the phone.
Settings reports:-
GT-i9000
Android 4.2.2
Baseband I9000XXJVT
Kernel 3.0.78.g69c9cbc
Works fine if you stick in an Orange SIM :'(
Ready to bin it and buy a cheap Android from Tesco....
Go back to stock to test it. If it still doesnt work then you have been ripped off
