Hello.
I got a dutch Galaxy Note, with 3.0.15 Speedmodkernel, CWM. android version 4.0.3 build nr im74k. Xxlpy
Now my question is, how do i flash a custom rom, and what rom do you guys recommend? I heard jellybean is a nice rom? I really want to get the best experience out of my Galaxy Note.
Sorry if im not being very clear, i quite new to this..
For flash rom you can use guide from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801686 but I suggest you still stay in custom ICS rom because JB rom still not stable yet. If you really want to try JB rom i suggest you using BlackCNA because SMemo app still working but before flash read the issues they posted and decide weather want to use it or not. For ICS i suggest using "Crash ROM" which is the rom I using now pretty cool and stable. One more thing, I suggest you using hydracore kernel before flash rom it suitable for all types rom and safe for full wipes on all types rom .

Hydracore - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28245219
backup efs first and save across different locations, then do readings above

What rom is best and most stable?
JVT stock rom with the semaphore kernel.
or wait for the F1 Innovation ROM Version 15 which is gonna be released tomorrow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058814
thanks for the reply ill wait for the f1 and see
ICS 4.0.3 rc2.1 onecosmic
ICS 4.0.3 rc2.1 onecosmic
love these rom
ICS from onecosmic ist really cool, but think about the problems.
Some Apps dont run with this rom. For me, there ist no connection with MyPhoneExplorer. Also problems with unsing external SD, because it is rooted to mnt/emmc.
After flashing GOA 6.0 and some other custom roms, i am at the moment on doctorz rom 13.1 with no FCs or any other problems. It ist smooth, all apps are running..for me the best rom at the moment.
First thing you should decide if you want a 2.3.x ROM or a 4.0.x release. Then you can decide which ROM is right for you.
Check the screenshots and see what you like the most. I can advice MintBerry which is very fast and good looking, but since it's not based on a Samsung ROM you're gonna miss the Samsung Apps (as far as you can miss them).
Stable - any stock ROM or Stock Rom based; you can speed it up by using a different kernel (try semaphore) and/or tweaks (Thunderbolt's). I don's advise any ICS based ROM: they are still a little away from what I call ''stable''.
As for best... well, it depends on what you think. My advice is to try several ones. Each user has it's thoughts on what they think it's ''best''.
i want 2.3.x because i know ics isnt that stable and alot of things dont work still..
currently im on jvq 2.3.4 flashed with odin ( i don't have cwm because i dont know if it will void my guarantee :/ )
and a user above suggested jvt but i also saw jvz and im wondering which is better ( both 2.3.6 )
I have tried lots of roms, I found galaxydroid 3.3 gave best battery life, but 5.0 lost it. I am currently using mitrerom, and this seems very stable, nice tweaks, boots very fast and thus far have no issues. I am avoiding any 4.0 rom, as they are still all in beta stages and can still have issues. Best thing to do, is see what you like and flash, flash and flash. You cant do any wrong if you read the tutorials and take your time, oh and dont touch the bootloader!!
Buttwad. Why not to post a link to that "mitrerom"? I can't find it anywhere.

Myhm... someone can.... first post here...
if i want to flash semaphore with odin i put it in the pda ?
it wont break stock jvz?
ANY kernel in Odin -passes as PDA.
JW1 with CWM-Kernel or SauRom ....
so stock jvz will work fine with semaphore 2.4?
bump :/ this is my last question
hi. i love my note. i'm using stock la4 but now i would like to try a custom rom, but i can't decide. someone can tell me which are for you the best rom and kernel.
and another question: using custom rom or kernel, the counter will increase or not?
I think ROMs made of the new ICS leak will become the best , it's supersmooth
Darkys ROM is the nicest with GB i think
I use Rocket Rom v22 and it has been great so far. It uses Abyss kernel 3.6.
Its the only custom ROM I've tried so far.

Hi guys,
I was a bit confused about flashing and many questions stormed my mind.
Ok my current situation is like this --> I have a rooted galaxy note.
I am on stock ICS 4.0.4
I have kingdroid v3.0 and cynogenmod 9 with me.
I know basics of flashing and will be able to flash them.
My question is that,
Is kingdroid rom safe from the emmc chip bug?
Which method is safer- flashing through ext storage or through odin?
If kingdroid is unsafe, then is it really worth flashing CM9?
Thank you in advance.

Kingdroid is based on CM/AOSP right ?
In order to flash that you need to be on GingerBread, GB is safe from the emmc bug so you wont have any issues.
flashing through CWM or ODIN are at the same safe / risk level, Theres a chance you can brick your phone using either.
However, You will only get the brickbug if you are on a Stock ICS kernel, You shouldnt encounter this as you will be flashing from GB.
Just follow the instructions on the ROM thread and you will be fine.

I agree with the azzle.
Steps:
-Dowgrade to GB
-Flash the abyss kernel [which will also "install" CWM]
-Wipe and flash a rom...
-\0/
I dont know anything bout this Kingstuff, but CM9 is great, or paranoid rom if you want the tablet/hybrid mode stuff.

Anyone has any suggestions for any good roms...i want a good interface and a kernal which supports OCing.

Well I would recommend you the Asylum ICS rom in CM9 base or if u want the AOKP go ahead with my rom Half-Illusion
Both are light and fast
Also can try the Paranoid Android rom if you want custom app dpi.
Above all roms are AOSP and doesn't include any samsung features!
Kernel comes with the custom rom. U can flash newer versions of kernel from the kernel repository link in my siggi.
BOOMED from my BOMBASTIC NOTE
Depends what features you are looking for,
If you're just looking for something smooth and stable and close to Stock (With Samsung Apps etc) then check out the ICS ROM CleaNote which comes bundled with the Dev's own kernel.
If you're not bothered about the Spen apps etc then I'd say give Paranoid Android a go..
It's personal preference really, Just have a read through the threads in the Dev section, Most of them have screenshots or a video showing features and installation method..
But, as You're on Stock ICS at the moment, be careful and DO NOT Wipe / Factory Reset on a STOCK ICS Kernel.
Cheers

As u said u ve been rooted y dont u try removing sum non essential apps from Titaniun Backup or Root Explorer App from Play Store as i truely recommend u dont try ant custom rom as non of rom r stable as in sum point....stock is stable and u dont lose ur s-pen apps as well....
but if u really curious den go for custom stock rom wid sum sort of tweaks done.....
First backup efs to multiple locations, use dr ketans tool thread to find out how

Speed and stability
Speed and stability depend both on rom as well as kernel.. most of the sammy based custom roms use notecore these days which is also my personal favorite:good:
I got a i9000 for backup that is still running darky rom 9.5 extreme version, i hardly ever update it but looking to now as my s3 is going in for repair, whats the best, most stable rom for performance and battery that i can install and keep on there without a need to reflash for another year?
Whats the method of flashing a JB rom onto my s1, is there an issue with bootloaders?
I'd recommend latest Mackay 1.5.0. It's rock stable and hardly customized - it's nearly stock JB. Thus it's really stable and reliable.
Flashing a JB ROM needs CM9 as a base, so you will have to flash CM9 anyways first. And be sure to backup your IMEI folder!
Custom JB C-RoM Mix v6 is also highly recommended. Very fast smooth and stable. You must flash a CM9 Rom first to avoid getting your IMEI invalid.
You can flash via CWM.

I flashed the c Rom mix, so far so good, didn't flash CM9, as I read the replies later to this thread but luckily my imei number is still intact.
