CyanogenMod / AOSP Skin Maker - Android Themes

* I meant AOKP in the topic title, if a mod could change this, I would be very grateful *
Hi guys, I've started work on a skin maker for all ROMs that use Theme Chooser.
Before I continue work on it, I'm wondering if it is something people are interested in, and if so if anyone wants to help me develop and test it?
So far, it can preview various screens (many more previews in progress) based on the default APKs that ship with whichever ROM you choose to theme. This images are then replaced by active project images, allowing you to see the full effect the theme will have, even if you're only changing a single image.
Advanced features so far include decompiling 9-patch images, and decompiling XML files. These two features alone make theming for any ROM much easier, as you can now modify 9-patch images and XML much easier. Recompiling is yet to be added, but I presume can be done via ant (not tried this yet).
The skin maker will then take all the images you have submitted as project images, arrange them into folders, create a manifest, compile the APK and sign it (you will need to define a key store for this).
This should streamline theme creation, and allow themers that have little coding experience to make new themes.
So, in short, if anyone is interested in helping me build this project, please PM me.

Read it very quickly because I'm going to eat, but already bookmarked. I would love to use a program like this!
Kudos for the work already done! Cheers

This is an awesome project!
I don't have time to create a full theme atm but I bet it's a welcome tool for everyone who is interested in creating a theme

Okay, the project is pretty much ready for extra help now.
I basically need help creating the Preview screens, they are written in XML, so anyone who feels confident enough in XML, contact me and I'll send over the alpha version and some notes on how to create Preview screens.

I'm thinking of changing it up a bit so that it doesn't rely on Theme Chooser and instead create my own theme applicator that will work on all custom ROMs. What are peoples thoughts on this idea? Should I stick to Theme Chooser, or create my own?

This will be epic

is this project still alive? I'd love to create a theme, but extracting the image names and creating a manifest and getting eclipse to build the theme is very complicated and about the only thing that is holding me back

You can try this theme editor tool

[Q] HDPI / MDPI ? "This theme is missing assets for your devices's screen size"

[Q] HDPI / MDPI ? "This theme is missing assets for your devices's screen size"
I am making my first theme and I'm editing image files by hand. When I try to load up my theme using the CM7 theme chooser, I get the error "This theme is missing assets for your devices's screen size."
I've also noticed some assets like ONE emoticon and my 4G icon was not included in the theme I extracted for editing.
How do I know if I'm editing MDPI or HDPI files and is there a way to include both in one theme?
I followed the newbie guide here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964391&highlight=faint+of+heart
Anyway I have an EVO and I want to make my theme high resolution.
Another question... I am trying to figure out how to "bake" in widgets and widget placement, and clocks, and that sort of thing into a CM7 theme. I also want to theme apps. How do I extract images out of an app for themeing?
I can't seem to find any threads explaining that. Can someone help me?
Thanks!
no help? gah. is there another good android theming forum?

Sorry I can't help. You are asking in a forum with few developers, but many bottom feeders.
Hope you figure it out.

[Q] CM7 theme manager - resources.arsc?

Hello guys,
I have a small question. I would like to create a theme for CM7 theme chooser, but I haven't found over the internet what happens if I modded an app, and I need to replace the resources.arsc? is the CM7 theme engine able to replace the resources.arsc also?
I hope I made myself clear
I just want to know if I can make CM7 theme engine to support resources.arsc
Thank you for your time and I am sorry if I posted in the wrong section!
Bump because I really want to see your theme on CM7. Love the rom it just isn't very eye appealing.
I want to ported but I have a limited time: only 1 month, after that I will get a job and no more deving. (at least for 2-3 months).
I have started looking into CM theming and making some steps, but I can't tell you any ETA
Take your time. I'm surprised nobody has ported your theme over by now. You have the most professional theme out there.
hope you get it done at some point definitely the most professional theme out there

Calling All Themers

Wondering where all the EH09 themes are at? Do the ED05 themes work on EH09? Are the devs porting themes and just not there yet? Just would like to know, thx.
All themers, please keep up the amazing work.
Most of the people that themed before have moved on to different devices. And a bulk of current users are running mtd roms (VGB, CM7, and MIUI) that include theme engines that have a vast array of theme choices available. I myself run pool party and have the one and only theme released for it. I'm surprised myself that someone that may have been teaching themself to theme hasn't poped up with a release for any touch wiz roms. But notta seems to be the only person posting anything for touch wiz.
And to answer your question since themes incleude rom specific frameworks. It would be a very bad idea to inject froyo frameworks into your gingerbread rom (it won't boot).
good day.
What he said ^^^ Please don't try to flash an ED05 theme onto EH09! Some themes should pop up in a few weeks...
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
There's a well written theme guide here and in the Mesmerize theme section. Go for it!

[CM7 THEME][MOD]Elegant Steel facelift

Hi all!
First of all i want to say i'm new to CM7 and themeing, but i have some experience from other places, not much though. I browsed trough themes, and kinda fell for ElegantSteel by kevin2516. After i installed it, i found it to be, well, not as streamlined as i hoped, so i've decided to give it a facelift. I seeked help in that thread without much response, so i'm going solo (for now), but will not publish before i get a go from the original maker. ATM, i'm working on remaking ALL the statusbar icons and other graphics, using Tokens icon template, slightly modified, but the todo list is long, lol. I will NOT be making custom icons for apps, and the reason is simple; there are way to many, and it doesn't look good when many icons follow a style, but some that aren't supported will stand out.
But, as i mentioned, i'm pretty new to this, and not aware of all capabilities i've got. I wan't this theme to be as complete as possible, so that users(me) won't have to fiddle around with the system files, but instead leave CM7 as stock and just apply this theme. So here are some questions i've got atm:
1. Can i include a status_bar.xml in the theme to override the stock one? This is for changing the colors of the fonts, center the clock etc.
2. Can i include my own custom DriodSans.ttf in the theme to override the stock ones? Simpler than pushing or using 3rd party app to replace, and won't be messy when changing to other themes.
3. Is there any software/scripts to make this job easier and/or organized? I look at files like $theme$/res/xml/android.xml for instance, quite a lot to keep track on (just to mention one file, lol).
More questions will come, but let's not take to many steps at the time All help will be very much appreciated.
I haven't bothered to check my xda threads in a while, still in holiday mode and focusing on other stuff.
Just do whatever you want lol

can you do center clock mod and put it in with the theme chooser apk? i haven't seen this done yet and i have just been editing my own systemUI.apk each time i update.
I don't know, that's why i'm asking. I most certainly hope so, i imagine i can include it like this: $theme$/res/layout/status_bar.xml (as i recall). But that might also be a sensitive .xml to put in a theme...
