[Q] What's the best kernel for S9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Iv'e installed Pure Galaxy ROM, and since then phone crashed all the time and 3G never works, and more issues.
Right now I have:
Android V.: 4.0.4
Baseband: I9000XXJVT
kernel: 3.0.8-g4577fdf
Build number: IMM76I
I'm not very into ROMs and kernels, I just need some directions on what's the best kernel for this phone right now. Something simple and that works
Thank you

If ur ready to change roms.. i would recommend SlimICS+ Semaphore 1.3.0, 100% stable, havnt had a single problem after install( a couple of months ago)

ok, just installed this to revert back, and now works as originally. To install semaphore, I place Semaphore_2.7.4.tar in the root of the sdcard, rebooted in recovery mode and used install from sdcard / update.zip and it says it can't find nothing...
Can I use odin or ezodin to do it?

.tar files are flashed with Odin, it seems you are trying to flash a gingerbread kernel on a ICS ROM, so go here and select the ICS kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468795

tried with any of the semaphore .tar, the 1.2.6 and 1.3.0 (s or not) and always the same, once it reboots it stays forever with samsung logo, bbut wont go further.
Now I have:
Firmware V.: 2.2.1
Baseband: I9000XXJVE
kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build number: EZbase v2.00
how do I know if I must use gingerbread or other kernels?
thanks

It seems you have downgraded to GB 2.2, so just update it to GB 2.3.6 by flashing a JVU + Root from My Android Collections, link below, after which you can upgrade it to CM 9 ( follow directions of chosen ROM) and Finally to CM 10 ( follow directions of chosen ROM)
Remember to save your EFS folder before flashing any custom ROM

Why use non stock kernel?
What is your reason for installing a non stock kernel?
Special features or performance?
Or ...??

nice question...
I'm not very into this stuff, don't know what's stock or non-stock either just wanted to install something that works.
Since I've unlocked it, have been playing with ROMs and kernels but all of them have problems, either with the 3G, either with the Wifi
Right now it looks very similar to original samsung with the following:
firmware: 2.3.6 // Baseband: XXJVU // Kernel: 2.6.35.7 // Gingerbread
and everytime I try to connect to any wifi, it seems to be connected, but no access, no nothing (and the wifi router is working fine...)
any opinions out there?
(what's stock kernel, by the way)

(Q) darky rom

Hello, guys i am on blockbuster rom with telon kernel installed! I want to change my rom and kernel to darky rom and darkcore. What would be the method? A very brief method would be appreciated. Thanx
here you go!!
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...wm-sgs-cappy-darkyrom-xxjvr-10-3-beta-1.4508/
If i was going back to a darky ROM on my SGS I would flash 10.2RE through Odin and then simply flash 10.2.1 or the JVS base through CWM. Followed by my kernel of choice if i didn't want to stay on darkcore.
I don't think I would bother with the10.3 beta

Hello Galaxy S Community, I have just purchased a Galaxy S and its coming with android 2.1 stock. I wanna know, whats the fastest and most stable rom for the Galaxy S and whats the fastest and most stable kernel for the Galaxy S?
Edit: I just updated it to 2.3.3 JVN Via Samsung Kies but I am no noob with odin, i just wanted to update via kies .
For stock rom the best kernel is the Sempahore kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
Form CM7/MIUI you can you the glitch kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041532

I definately dont wanna stay on stock touchwiz cause i dont like the interface. What do you think about the 4.0.4 roms? Does all the hardware work or is it in alpha/beta? What about ICS Kernels? Should i flash ICS or flash a Gingerbread rom (CM7, etc)? Sorry about all the questions but there are so many roms/kernels that I just have no clue which one to use.
You could try latest CM9 nightly with Semaphore 1.2.2 or latest mnics or Devil kernel.
After 3 or 4 circle battery charges I'd think it will offer to you good performance and good battery life, but I'm supposing it.
Try them and after that tell us about
I hope it helps you!

Flash the ROM with.pit, let it reboot then boot back to download, flash the root kernel, let it reboot and you are on rooted ROM, copy nightly, base, essentials and gapps to sd card, then follow instructions for flashing sequence, after, if you want semaphore download and flash that, make sure you use the s version as slim has the large ram patch

From Samsung ICS to CM10

Hello,
Right now, my Galaxy Note is running a rooted version Samsung ICS:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version: 3.0.150N7000XXLPY-CL474507
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPY
I'd like to try CM10, but I've been reading a lot of issues from people flashing ROMs from Samsung ICS. What would be the safest way to install CM10? Should I downgrade to a Samsung Gingerbread ROM first? What procedure would you guys recommend?
Thanks,
Tiago
It is important to downgrade first to samsung stock GB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO93XJ2C8pc&feature=plcp
Follow his instructions to a tee and you should be good to go.

Don't forget to hit the 'Thank's button if I have helped you in some way or the other.

you can flash the pre rooted GB rom by Chainfire...then flash the cf kernel....do a full wipe and then just flash CM10. Find the procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Go to section 1.3 and u find the way....hope it helps....:good:
Flash it to stock GB
here's the other link for the video.. again all courtesy to the creator of that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc
There's also the links of the ROM (choose checkROM GB or RocketROM) and the kernel you need to download.
Just follow his video bud, (I'm following his video for flashing roms and I never miss going back to this video to downgrade to GB)
Cheers!
I see. So flashing Abyss kernel from Samsung ICS (LPY kernel) using CWM is actually safe? I just want to be sure because I've seen many people advising not to use CWM at all if you are on a Samsung ICS ROM.
abysskernel is not an infected kernel, that is why mostly when your going to downgrade to gingerbread.. most flashers will tell you to flash first to abysskernel then flash the GB rom after.

OK, I flashed Abyss kernel (worked fine), rebooted recovery, made a full wipe, flashed Rocket ROM and rebooted the system. I see the boot animation, but after that, nothing happens (blank screen). I've waited over 5 minutes, but the ROM doesn't boot. Anything else I can try?
I'm f*cking tired of explaining this over and over again...MY GOD!! You could've just read the CM9 installation instructions, CHECKED OUT THE STICKIES, ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
THE ONLY 100% SAFE WAY TO GET RID OF AN INFECTED KERNEL IS TO FLASH TO GB THROUGH PC ODIN!! Why the F*CK does everyone prefer to flash abyss and take that risk...!?
IF!! You're confident that RocketRom flashed correctly, you could probably full wipe (AGAIN) from recovery (you'd be on a safe kernel) and that should solve your problem...
Wait for a 2nd opinion though...

Flash latest Notecore kernel using pc odin, it will root and install cwm recovery as well, once you are on this safe kernel you can flash any custom rom via cwm recovery. No need to flash GB for this.
Note- you have to use triangle away to reset binary count after flashin custom kernel.
You can also follow flashing guide on your selected rom thread after flashin custom kernel.

Whenever you change the base like cm9 to ics then it is recommended to flash gb to be safe. But you can use shortcuts too like abyss or direct wipe and flash from cwm. The first way gives you full performance with extra juice. No fcs and sods.
