Hi guys,
i always wondered why the "x" on the back of the nexus 7 doesn't come in the nice nexus-colors...
So i did some modification to color it, and it looks really great!
This is just a quick how-to and i'm sure anyone can do it, too.
First of all, i thought about how to color it, and because i didn't want to get some permanent stuff on it, in case anything goes wrong, i decided to use tape for it.
So i ordered some tape in the matching nexus-colors, and made sure that the colors fit properly (light blue and green).
Cutting it out was actually pretty hard, because i had to do it very accurate, but i managed it.
After i attached it to the back using a tweezer, i looked awesome, but check it out, exactly how i imagined.
Its not perfect yet (red one is a little to big) but it seems to hold pretty good so far.
Cutting it out with a laser would be perfect, looking for someone who could do that atm...
But anyway, it looks so much better to me than the dull black, and i'm sure you like it, too!
In case you can't see the thumbnails, try this: http://imageshack.us/g/1/9778350/
Very neat! If I had the tape I would do it, pero but I wouldn't really order it on purpose.

That's awesome! Quite a bit of work, but it looks like it played off. I may just have to try this.

75 cents each, no shipping costs, was really cheap, and i can use it for other projects...
Why google didn't think about it?

I wonder if it would be easier using Acrylics paints. I think I am gonna give it a try some other day.

Normally you should see them, but sometimes this seems to be broken...

Thought about that, too.
Make sure to work very accurate, and tape off all the area around the "x", then this could be great. (I would paint 3 layers to make sure the color is well covering)
That looks very nice. I want it but cant be botherd doing it. Maybe some other time, probably when i am drunk lol.

If you try it make sure to post it, if it sticks well i have some acrylic paint lying around that could be used
OK, I tried the Acrylics paints, but I failed terribly. The ditches of the X were so thin the paints ended up everywhere. I even used a sewing needle to work with it but no go. So I think OP using colored tapes is a smarter move.

Cool. Might do this on the "x" of the official Asus cover.
Imagine if someone filled in the little dots on the back to create a nexus 'x'

Did you already order it? If not, forget it and go with the blurex ultra slim case, that's really the best one you can get and it's even cheaper!

Try clearing your cache, page history and whatnot. I suggest Ccleaner.
On Topic: I love the idea, but alas I am too lazy to look for the tapes.

So I got my Nexus 7 and was excited to see it up close and in my hands. Once I received it I fell in love with its design and feel. But one thing was missing on the back. The back was just to plain and boring for me. Google could have at least colored in the Nexus logo to spice things up. So instead I went ahead and did my own coloring on the back of my Nexus 7. See the pictures below. If you guys want I can make a tutorial on how I did it and what I used. Thanks!

That's pretty smart, I like it. It would have been a nice idea to have a line of coloured backs ready to upsell on eager new owners, but I suppose they don't want people jimmying off the backs to replace them
BTW, yeah, I'd like to know what sort of paint you used, acrylic?
It looks good. I'm holding out for the custom backs sure to come.

Very cool paint job. I dont have one yet but I assume that the logos is carved in the back and you just used some paint to paint in the spots?

Looks pretty sweet... If I were to do it I'd only do the Nexus.
But yeah, what did you use and you'll have to update on if it holds up.
Cool... Mine will be in a slim case soon, but I could get my Daughter to do that (Graphic artist with all the paints and tools).

I used Elmers Painters Neon Pack from Amazon. I bought them just to try this out. I wouldn't really recommend these because the tip is to big to get the paint into the engraving and it took me awhile to clean it up. And it doesn't seem like the paint would really hold up that long. Im going to try to take out all the paint and re-do the color with some better markers.
This is really cool! Definitely makes the back look much more enticing and, I think Google and Asus should've designed something like this to begin with.
I'll be trying this out for sure! Nice work!

That looks pretty cool. Although people, be careful if you want to try paint on your backing, it might not be very easy to find a new one if you screw up. It seems to have the NFC antenna on it as mentioned on this xda unboxing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=iNWRto0Vf0M#t=316s

I just don't see this happening (nor do I really see a point to it - I've had tablets with cameras, useless). Anyway, if you really want a camera for your tablet, here:
http://www.looxcie.com/
Small, works over bluetooth, compatible with a bunch of devices, and a reasonable cost (buy once, use for many years). Who knows there may be others out there too, that was the first one I found in a 2 minute google search. >_>
EDIT: Actually now that I think of it this is probably more ideal than having a camera in the device. This way you don't have to look like a tool trying to angle your tablet for a shot, you can just move the little camera around and leave the tablet on the table or whatever as a view finder. Seems a lot more flexible... I might get one to play with...
Yes, thank so much for that, i think your idea about camera out of device is great, same my idea. Because im vietnamess, so this camera it difficult to find and buy it. Ha ha im apprecia about that. Nice to talk to u. Thank

wow, i've never seen such an intuitive design!!! this is gonna be SO useful! thank you so much!!
The tablet can clearly have a camera, all you need to do is find the compatible one, solder it in and hope that the traces are there and that it can be supported in android. Start looking at other asus tablets with rear cameras.
This will be the device that your camera comes from.

Hi XDA Members,
I was doing some cleaning and found an unopened purple hard case for a shift my wife was going to buy, then didn't. Since I have no use for it, I'll be willing to mail it to the first person who asks. I'm too lazy to take a picture of it, but its just a standard, hard, 2 piece case, solid purple.
First person to PM me their address gets it. Consider it my good deed for the day.
It's basically this case:

I don't have a use for it myself, but that's pretty awesome of you man

It's kinda weird. It has some kind of glue, which makes the skin able to be removed and added again. I don't know how to call it, but I liked it, since it's really easy to put or to take off. I recommend it if you liked it.

Did a quick Google search and it looks like there's a place online who makes some, nothing to the extent of the custom vinyl though.
Some to Purchase: http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/samsung/exoskin-nexus-10
How to install: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq9NbUVH2BA
If anyone else has a site that has better one's please post them, this is a great idea with how easily the back gets scratched due to the material.

You'll be lucky if that lasts a week. Note even at the end of his video the corners of the back piece are already wrinkling back up. The side pieces are a complete waste of time; there is so little contact area they'll peel straight back off the first time you touch them.
The only bit that will stay in place is on the glass, which needs no protection anyway.

I just received my new N4 from an RMA and noticed that there are now what appear to be two small bumps at the bottom of the just beneath the glass back. At first I only saw one and thought it was an imperfection but then I noticed the other in the exact same location on the opposite side. My old N4 doesn't have this. I'm guessing this was done to keep the glass from making contact with debris when it's laid on it's back, thus reducing potential scratches and damage. So is this new or did I miss something? Anyone else have these on their device?
