ever since updating to the cyanogen 4 series of roms i have been getting 3g issues. by this i mean that sometimes it doesnt want to connect to the internet from any program, like the market, google voice, or the browser. sometimes it does work, but sometimes i have to reboot the phone or just turn off 3G in order to browse the web. i am running haykuros spl with apps2sd with a 800mb ext4 partition. and im running the latest cyan mod.
can any one assist me in this?
what can i do to fix this?
do i need a new g1?
I dunno if wipe helps have you tried that? boot into recovery, wipe (alt+w)
if not, jacxrom is a good alternative to cyan, i guess...
but chances are your phone's hardware itself is fine, and you won't need a new one.

has anyone else experienced this and how did u fix it?
ive had the same thing happening lately. i had it happen tonight with just my edge connection i had to reset the phone. I also just wiped and reformatted my sd card for a linux-swap partition before flashing this rom so i know that isnt the problem.

Try re-installing the radio.
I had to do a second wipe after installed to fix the 3g problem. Since then I haven't noticed any problems

I dunno if this is related, but Ive been having bluetooth issues since the latest few updates, bluetooth has never been perfect for me, but when I listen to mp3s over bluetooth it almost constantly stutters, like its dropping the BT connection, because the music seems to have been going on playing while I don't hear anything.
what is with all these questions in the wrong forum? where is Mikey when you need him?

Mod request to delete thread: fix for BT and 3G issues
1. power down the unit with the red key. Wait a minute. Power back up.
2. Try reinstalling the radio
3. Try reinstalling the ROM, and then reinstall the radio again
5. You shouldn't have to, but wipe, re-create (not just reformat) your ext# partition (you can back it up and refill it, but occaisionally stuff gets left behind) reinstall the ROM, wipe, install again, install the radio, full power cycle.
5. (Last) post your issue
This actually belongs in the ROM forum, but not until these basics have been tried.

i tried this but still no cigar,
=[
I don't believe this to be a problem with a ROM or radio. I've had similar connection issues recently. i noticed it after flashing a Hero Theme to Cyan 3.9somethin. I thought the rom might have been the cause of the issue but a buddy of mine that i work with has a stock G1 and has similar connection issues. Also a customer came into the store who had a Samsung Highlight with similar problems, i figured it was a problem on Tmobile's End. It still hasn't fixed itself so i plan to give customer service a call in the morning and see if they have any resolutions or if its a recognized issue. I'll post back with what i get tomorrow.

no signal..
As of late my phone was good... but now it says no service all day why.. an what can i do to fix... i was running cyanogen 4.0.4... i beive i hav the latest raido.. spl dont know... the wifi still works thou.. help please..
Hi,
I have a strange issue and if someone has seen it I'd be very grateful if he/she can provide me with a resolution.
I was using Energy's rom Standard from 28th of May until the other day I decided to flash a new rom hoping it would have some of the bugs fixed.
I did it the same way I do it every time: downloaded the latest version, moved the BLACIMG.nbh to the SD card and flashed from there. Passed the initial setup and then do a hard reset and do the initial setup again.
This time after the first initial setup the HTC Sence refused to start. Whatever is on the screen where the Sense should be stays there. The Start menu is working, wireless is working, File explorer is working, SD card is working, GPS is working ( all of the above accessed through start menu ).
I thought it was a 1 time thing and did the hard reset - it did nit fix the issue.
I downloaded another rom ( from 1st of July ) - same thing. I tried my previous rom ( since I kept the install file last time ) but I got the same issue. The phone says Starting HTC Sense ... and it stays like this forever.
Whatever is on the screen - stays there frozen.
Also I somehow managed to get it working for a little while by connecting the phone to a PC via Active Sync ( HTC Sense is working fine - tried customizing it - wokring ok ) but it does not survive a reboot.
So if anyone has seen this please let me know.
Thanks
Hi,
Have you sync any kind of info like contacts, emails, etc?
Have you imported PIM or config data through UC?
You can try to hard rest your device and start it without the Micro SD inserted.
Did you try a Task29?
I tried restoring a full backup ( with SPB Backup ) over the new roms as well as the old one that was working - no success.
Will try to boot without the SD card when I get home ( currently @ work )
@Smobbo - sorry but what is Task29 ?

Use Task29 to format your phone memory. it will delete all the data in the phone memory before we flash new rom. it is to make sure the old roms information flashed in our HD not left in our phone. it will make our HD clear. it is good for our phone
well I did try a flash and before the first boot I removed the SD card - it fixed the issue.
thanks guys.
So apparently the official 2.2 Froyo is rolling out. I haven't checked yet but I will when I get home. I have some newb questions.
I got my phone and haven't touched a thing to it. Just added lots of apps. No root. No lag fix. Nothing.
My question is, if I upgrade this officially via Kies:
1) Do I lose my contacts / stuff ?
2) Do I lose my apps ?
I heard people saying that once you upgrade to do a hard reset of the phone -- why ? What happens if you don't ?
With this in mind, how and what is the best way to back up all my apps ? I haven't rooted but i DO have Titanium Back up. Would Z4root work for i9000m ? can anyone confirm ?

Why is this stupid update corrupting internal SD's left and right? Bell better get me a new phone! Cause this one is bricked(I think) it goes up til "S" logo and then nothing but blank screen. If I touch the button, they light up but still nothin on the screen.
I should have gotten a different phone to begin with, but too bad Canada doesn't have all the good phones US has like D2 DX HTC Evo etc. Going up to Bell tomorrow for an exchange.

A lot of people have been complaining that their SD cards have been screwed. Luckily mine went through without any problems and hasn't given me any trouble so far.
Froyo is insane tho, before the phone used to lag a bit, now the moment i touch it it opens. No need for lag fix in my opinion, everything works blazing fast as is.
One thing to watch out for is the WIFI. It was working normally at the beginning but after 3 hours it just disconnected for no apparent reason and has trouble connecting back.
Good luck

Yep, but for optimised result, this is a must do!
You can probably have it work without doing a factory reset, but you can encounter weird behavior, bugs and stuff!
Anyway, you might end up doing it anyway to solve the firts boot issue
I'm one of the users who upgraded to Bell Froyo (from stock FW with root and lagfix - undid the lagfix before upgrading) and then encountered the broken internal SD card issue. I ran Volume UP/Power/Home(middle button) to reformat everything and it is up again. Inside the OS, I ran the internal factory reset again. So far so good. *crossing fingers*
I updated mine last night. However I've had major problems since. Initially it would just freeze up randomly and require removing the battery to get it back up and running.
Today I decide to reset it to defaults which seemed to go fine, although shortly after getting it all setup again, some Samsung app of sorts came up with an error and had to be forcefully closed. Then I was left with a black screen and only the notification bar.
Powered off the phone and went to turn it back on, and now it just loops through the Samsung GT i9000 screen (white writing). Not even the colourful S logo comes up.
I'm able to get it into Download Mode but not Recovery Mode. I'll have to do some reading about this Odin stuff tonight. Hopefully I can revive it, otherwise I guess I'll had to send it in for repairs. No idea if Virgin Mobile repairs will go through Bell or if I take it to them directly.
This is my first Android phone and I've only had it for just over a week. I thought I was making a good decision, but now I see it has quite a defect with the internal SD card failing.
Slow after upgrade
I upgrade my phone last night ( as per bell and Samsung) It is now slower than before. Quadrant Standard has it under 900.
Any ideas how to fix it?

try a re flash of another ROM preferably a stock ROM then start all over again, similar thing happened to me earlier, i am quite new to all this but i dont know if its the kernel or lagfix i had what caused this...
i re flashed back to froyo and then installed darkys ROM then re installed my kernel last.. all is good (for now)
worked for me first time but when i went to sgs tools to upgrade your apps ie gallery, camera, it said no busybox installed but went ahead and done fine in v8.0 and i see that cwm changed from red to green too went to market for busybox to download it but when it goes to install phone just reboots all the time mmmm...
Easiest way out of cycling boot:
pull battery
place it in
bring phone in download mode (not recovery!)
prepare Odin with a stock ROM
connect the phone to your PC and give it a kick thru Odin
When done feel free to switch again to Darkys (8.0) with wipe (you will loose data) and afterwards upgrade to 8.1.

YES !!! i agree, it is a pain.. but we love our phones and we would do anything for them its always best to flash back to standard FW if you ever get a problem...
I myself experienced this. Whenever I installed a new software, it would just boot. I got fed up because darky's forums are also down and there is no discussion. flashed doc's rom. Now everything is fine.
...mh... but it's not caused by Darkys ROM. This cycling boot feature may appear at all ROM, at all lag fix actions and so on. It depends how proper you interact with phone- and ROM-features while configuring. A lil disturbance during your session (by you or battery issue or whatelse) or a not so well prepared basic from where you start and your unlimited-feature-wishlist-and-paint-it-golden-one-click-action is enough to interrupt the whole thing and run into trouble.
It was and is all the same - since DOS or C64. And it will be the same, even when iPhone is on level 12.x or Android will be able to beam you elsewhere thru the barcode scanner.
It's a game. Nothing more. And game means lot of fun - and in the beginning a certain thrill when your phone stuck first time and you are thinking: "... f*ck... bricked..."
yup same for me
cycle boot thing
didnt enable download mode before that....
can get into debug screen thou but wiping it doesnt help

Thanks guys for all the replies. Now I did try flashing a stock rom but with no results. Was still having the same thing happening to me. If you guys can give me the link to the files you used to solve this problem, that would be great. Also just for your information I have a Bell i9000m unlocked running on fido. And NO its not an sd card failure lol.
As for DarelSteilz85, I did make one of those JIG usb for myself. It easy, just get the micro usb and strip it bare to the point you can see the pins on the usb which usually are connected to the wires and get a resister to connect one pin to another. Now for which pins, I remember it was 4 and 5 that you had to connect through the resistor but double check as I am not sure. Also the resistor has to be a certain level which I forgot so double check that also. Good luck.

Hey everyone, after a year of not caring about any mods or hacks for my galaxy s I thought that I should get one problem out of this world.
I am talking about the constantly flashing led buttons...so I stumbled upon BLN control which needed a special kernel, so I downloaded the promoted Kernel Flasher and the .tar file of the manual site of BLN (the site i was linked to via my mobilephone when opening BLN).
That tar file was called something with odin in it (not the "update" version). I used odin back in the days I remember...anyways, while in kernel flasher i inserted that tar file...and the kernel was installed, auto-reboot and since then it restarts on loops. Loads the desktop, checks for sd cards...you can scroll around a bit...then after 8 seconds it gets black and restarts.
I am really desperate here, because my exams are coming up and due to my carelessness I have this nasty problem to solve on top of that. Arghh...
There are some appz with important information in it (like notes), a clear swipe would be the absolute last resort here.
Can I recover my old kernel (didn't backup my old one), or replace/update with a new, working one? Through the recovery menue?
If you'd be so kind to step by step explain how it should be done? and I will cease any modding, hacking after this one. -_-
It is a rooted 2.3.3 Gingerbread kernel, as far as i can remember.
Can you go to download mode ? if so flash the .tar file as pda in odin. MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT KERNEL FOR YOUR DEVICE.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App. i helped? hit the thanks button. Thanks
Thanks for the tip.
This morning I played around with this bootlooping phenomenon a bit and found out, that when I immediately close any wlan or phone signal my phone works normal...just that I cannot phone anyone, or be phoned, or surf the net.
I manually did a backup of all my important files now, phew.
When using backup programs my phone resets immediately too.
Ok, long story short, I got my firmware, kernel info now, so you might be able to tell me which kernel, firmware would be appropriate for me (didn't update for a year now, so I am not on top of the news).
Kernel/file that screwed up my phone:
i9000_jvh_backlightNotification_v3.0_odin.tar
My actual Kernel Version:
2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #51
Buildnumber:
Gingerbread.XWJVB
I am able to enter the download mode, but which . tar-file should I use in your opinion? What's a good one today?
Ah, I see the light, maybe I once again will be able to phone again.

do you want to use a Samsung stock kernel or do you wanna give a try to Cyanogenmod stable or something like that?
Last time I saw samfirmware sites I saw that 2.3.6 was avaible for Europe...
Well... that's your choice!!!
Will I be able to keep the functionality of BLN, that keeps those led-buttons at the bottom turned off?
With a Samsung Stock-Kernel you will loose the BLN-Feature. You can try flashing another Kernel which has implemented this feature too. I used the SemaphoreKernel which has this feature. (works on all GB-Roms)
If you try Cyanogenmod you will loose BLN too. But Cm has a feature called "LED-Notification" which does the same as BLN does.
So, I downloaded update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS-signed.zip should I go on with this manual? http: //jjpda.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-install-cyanogenmod-71-on-i9000.html ?
Or do I have to go back from a root to apply this new one?
Which program do I use on PC, and which one on my phone again? :O
Search in Cyanogenmod wiki for i9000,you will find all the steps to follow..
You need 1st TO root the phone, than install ROM manager, install CWM, place CM7 zip on internal SD, remove SIM And ext. SD,reboot into recovery, wipe data, cache and dalvik, flash CM7 zip and reboot.
Don't forget:
-fully charge your phone before starting
-read CM7 wiki page
Hope this might help you.

But what can I do now? I re-flashed, wiped already, with no success, my sim card is still absent in cyanmod. :\

Can you post a screenshot about info of your phone with CM7?
(long press power button and select Screenshot when you are in the info menu )
Here some info for your amusement. Have fun!
Supposed we get to a solution, so I can use my phone for communication purposes again, I wanted to format the internal sd memory of my phone.
Can I just format it, then just leave the flash files on it, to reflash again?
How does that work?
Also, I flashed that googleappz package rom too after the cynomod flash, as I was supposed to by wiki manual.
But I cannot find google maps, android market etc.
I wonder if there is any connection to my initial sim card problem.
But first things first I guess...wanna do some calls :\
Thanks so far for all the good souls trying to help me!

What is the difference exactly? Includes a radio option?
Does it also have the option to turn off the led sensor buttons?
Has it an option to do phone calls too?
PS: I cannot seem to find any cyanmod radio file...hmm

I found that in some cases might help.

I wiped everything possible in recovery mode, flashed that ominous JVC rom, then googleappz. At least now I can shop in the android market. But the sim card still is in the land beyond imagination.
Has my sim card been...bricked?
Which other flash files do you suggest me to try out now? Or should I get me another sim card from the store?
Everything's solved! And the solution was too easy to believe...
Checked the sim card slot more deeply and found out that the sim card wasn't placed in correctly. I seem to have taken it out through the flashing process and in all the "commotion" quickly put it in wrong. Sorry for the big fuzz, everyone.
At least now I got some training with flashing.
So, should I reflash the first cyanmod again?
no you don't need to reflash the rom, cause you already flashed twice plus wiped all possible options...!
I just didn't want to ask you to check if the SIM card was insert properly,
but that would solve your issue faster...!
Enjoy CM7!
Well, I had some time to try out the performance and stability of this mod.
Games definitely are running with a some lag (also reaction time of the sensor to control your game, makes them unplayable).
I tried to uncheck the Cyanmod setting option "Dithering" and "JIT"..also put the cpu settings to "performance".
To be sure I formatted internal SD and external SD.
My phone had some problems finding my external SD, but some guy on the net told to go to Cyanmod settings, applications, use internal memory...and now I use my external SD for everything I guess?
Maybe this is because everything is in slowmo?
Maybe the firstly flashed mod was more...stable?
So, my question would be how to use my internal sd card, maybe it gets faster then?

What about changing to kernel infinity?
