Display Broken, please help! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
Please i need help! my screen broke and i have important information backed up in my internal sd card.
I tried to follow a suggestion of another tread to enter recovery mode (i have semaphore kernel and slim rom 2.5) and mount the sd card by pressing 5 times button up and down 2 times up it seems that the phone connects to the pc as windows makes a noise and shows an icon that says the galaxy is connected.
The issue is that i don't see any new "removable disks" in the Pc, so the phone is connected but i cant access the files
am i missing something? is there something else anyone could suggest ?
Appreciate your help

If its mounted, your windows will start reading the SD cards, most likely the key press combination may vary according to CWM version..its http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/images/3/3f/Onix_kernel.jpg this is for version 2.5, so try and find out the exact combination, for it to work

Than you for the reply xsenman,
In windows i can see an icon in the bottom that shows the phone is connected, the thing is that the sds are not showing/opening for me to be able to copy the content, so it looks like is mounted but not working.
For example i tried to "disconnect" usb with right click of the mouse and i see 3 things
The galaxy phone
Internal sd
external sd
But both sds are grayed out, so like is reading but i cant access (im not an expert or developer so i dont know the language for this)
do you have any idea what could be the issue?
in other hand i have tried to find the screenshots of CWM 6 without success.
do you know where i could find this screenshots just in case?
thank you

This simply means the USB connection with the phone is active and good, but your SD cards are mounted to the phone ( so you cannot open them on PC) , you need to unmount them in USB storage mode , like I said the you need to get the key combinations correct for PC to mount them

I already gave you what I had, anyway in the screen shot i posted earlier its 6x down > enter and 11x down> enter to get mount USB storage...but be careful to verify this as you could end formating your SD card , if it is wrong
You need to search for the CWM Ver 6 key combination, to make it work, maybe someone with CWM Version 6 can type out , how to access their USB storage mode in recovery?
ANYONE willing to help kartoshka22???

xsenman thank you for the help, now its clearer, i hope someone can help me finding the right menu.
Anyone please?

I checked on my i9000, cm9, cwm6.
It is 5x down, click, then 3x down and click to mount SD card

For mounting USB storage it is five down, click, then thirteen (13) down, click. Make sure you go to13, the options above it are for formatting!
Good luck!

[Q] How to flash a ROM with out USB

I started this thread in the "General discussion" section about this but I'm starting to think my problem might be more SGS specific.
My problem is that my phones USB connection stopped working then I foolishly reformatted my system partition with out having another ROM with which to replace it. I still have "ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3" installed but am unable to find a way to install another ROM. Most people seem to say flashing from an external SD card is trivial with CWM but I can't work out how to do it. Does anyone know a way to flash a ROM from the external SD card with CWM v2.5.1.3 on an SGS, or any other way I could get an image back on my phone that doesn't require a working USB connection?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Go into update from zip as usual then scroll down to external sd... if that's not working go into advanced and check if external sd is mounted

You may need to update cwm, I don't think the earlier versions hadan option to flash from Ext sd

Yeah, I think that might be the case. There is an option to "mount /sd-ext" but I don't think that actually mounts the external SD card. I think it has something to do with an "extended" or "extra" partition. In any event, when I select the option I get this error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(File exists)
Error mounting SDEXT:!
Also, I can't see an "external sd" option under "update from zip". Under "install zip from scdard" there is an option to "choose zip from sdcard" but this doesn't seem to access the external card.
Any idea how I might be able to update to a later version of CWM?

No worries (it was pretty stupid of me).
Called a repair shop today, it will cost $80 to get the USB port replaced. Trying to decide between forking out $80 or donating it to landfill.

Have you tried pushing files to sd card with adb?
Since the phone is worth over £200 I would get it fixed you should look online and see how easy it is to fix you might be able to or know someone who can fix it at a cheap price (that part is most likely on sale online for way less)

Well, here it is: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-...Parts_Tools&hash=item2571b036fe#ht_1558wt_952
Just have to work out how to do it now.
I had the phone in pieces the other night trying to clean the port and that socket seem pretty firmly attached. Have to see if I can turn up any instructions. There are lots of sights saying they'll do it for you but haven't been able to find any instructions on how to do it myself yet.

[Q] ADB pull /sdcard not working?

hey
I've a question I try to save the data of a friends phone whos screen is broken and dont respond.
Everytime I use
Code:
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/ C:\Android
it responds with
Code:
Code:
pull: building file list...
0 files pulled. 0 files skipped.
What do I wrong??
Thanks for your replies
Does really nobody know it?
Or does anybody have a solution the save data from a phone which screen is broken (black) and touch screen doesn't work either and last but not least usb debugging isn't enabled.
Without USB debugging enabled, you can't connect trough adb, try doing "adb devices", wich will probably show nothing, what means that you can't use adb.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda premium
I've rooted the phone blind and in the recovery my pc shows the device in the list, status = recovery.
Oh okay, then try to mount sdcard and try again, if that doesn't work, try to unmount it again and try again.

thank you very much for your replie, i tried it with my phone (i9000) and it worked
the problem is that my friend has a Galaxy S3 and i don't know the structure of CWM 5.5...
Well there isn't that much difference between the cwm versions, if you look at it it almost explaines itself
Sent from my awesome fridge
there are some diffrentes between the versions and because i don't see what i do, it's very important to know in which order the things are coming
At the moment the situation is the following:
All the data on the sd got erased (i dont know when), but i have now access to the sd over the pc. The problem is that the S3 doesnt support usb mass storage which means that recuva etc to restore the files wont work.
Are there any other ways to restore the data or to activate usb mass storage?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
not unless you have a TitaniumBackup...if you have CWM 6.0.1.0 mounting USB storage option is in recovery itself
also i have no intention of high jacking this thread but off late i am facing certain weird issues with adb myself Error mounting SDcard
My dont have a TitaniumBackup but that is anyway useless cause he need his pictures etc. Do you have read the whole thread? Because at the moment the problem is that i cant restore the data from the erased sd card cause windows dont detect the Galaxy S3 as a Usb mass storage. And because the screen is broken I also cant try a solution from xda ^^
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Well, the data on your sdcard is gone, if adb won't recognize it. But what files do you want from your sdcard? 'cause when you only need the pictures, it might be auto-uploaded on dropbox or google drive etc
Sent from my awesome fridge
I think you missunderstood ^^ first the pictures arent uploaded to dropbox etc. And the problem first was that i couldnt get access to the data cause he had a pin to unlock which i cant tip in without screen. After flashing a 3 file fw the pin was gone and i could access the data. Unfortunality it also formated the whole SD.
The same Problem happend to my phone and i could restore my data with the program called "Recuva".
The problem now is that the S3 don't have a USB Mass Storage like the S1 and the PC dont detect it as a hard drive so Recuva wont recognize it either
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Well you can always buy a USB stick with sdcard availability, or use another phone with that sdcard to wich does have mass storage enabled.
Sent from my awesome fridge
The problem is, i need the data from this Phone. Accidently it formated the whole internal memory on which everything was (Music, Pictures etc.).
With a Tool called Recuva you can restore deleted files. But Recuva doesn't recognizes the Galaxy S3. Because Galaxy S3 don't have Mass Storage anymore, I thought Samsungs uses now MTP or something like this. And now i need a Tool or something to restore everything from the formated internal SD.
Try searching for that on google.
Sent from my awesome fridge
I did for nearly 5 hours
you're my last hope
All wouldn't be a problem if the screen would work or if my friend enabled usb debugging
Is there any possibility to get into recovery mode and flash a Rom? If yes, you could use a Stockrom with a modified build.prop so USB debugging would be enabled.

Hi All,
I'm newbie to this area and I just flashing my P1000 into CM10.1 with JB 4.2.2. Everything is work fine for me and I love the PDroid Manager function very much too!
The only problem that I encountered now is the USB mass storage function. When i plug in the USB cable into desktop computer, it only shows external SD card drive but internal SD card drive shows nothing whereby lots of data were stored into internal SD card.
Does anyone help to enlightening me on how to get back to live for my internal SD card drive?
Thanks in advance!

Connect to your PC?
You are not being clear.
You connect it using the USB cable.
If you meant to say the PC can't detect it, you still have to tell in what way, as storage, in Odin, etc, etc?

Hi All,
Same problem comes back again after I've done factory reset to my GT-P1000. Besides this, I discover that the radio keeps telling me no service but I still can access my mail using mobile data network (not WiFi).
Other than these, my GT-P1000 will reboot itself automatically. Please be informed that I did flashing this from original GB to this ROM directly.
Is there any advice can be taken? I don't wish keep factory resetting my GT-P1000 in order to access the internal SD again.
Another issue need to find out is how to switch the picture storage location from internal SD to external SD after camera snapped?
Please help, thanks!

I used a 32GB sdcard. I think it is a Patriot. So you mean, it should be possible to mount an external sdcard with TWRP and install from it? In the meantime I could solve it using the advanced options. There was nothing under /sdcard but the install-image under /emmc. So I copied it with TWRP to /sdcard and then thank God the installation worked after a few tries.

for two days now i've been trying to get jellybean 4.1.2 onto my galaxy s plus. i used odin multi-downloader to do the things suggested and when i get to the part involving the zip file on the sd card everything goes south. it gives me a "cannot mount" message and now basically the phone can either be put into downloading or recovery mode. i'm making a last attempt to get something going using the pda button and a zip file. but it's been over an hour now and i don't think i've resolved anything. got this message initially "<1> setup connection..." but the clock just keeps on ticking away.

that message is normal, you have the roms in external sd or internal? if they are in external sd you have to search with "internal sd" option (is an error, internal sd shows you the content of external sd and sd shows you the content of internal one). make a factory reset and then try to flash one of the rom you have on your sd (if you can find them), if you want 4.1.2 rom i suggest you ivendor's one

error occurred when trying to save the file. it will be not saved.
so i tried the other ways but i was not able to get the phone to communicate with the computer throw the usb connection not even using usb debagging.
so i went back to google my good old friend and found this thread about a similar problem on that thread that solution was offered:

hello xda!
i have flashed om my mam's phone cm 10.1 cuz she was not satisfied with the htc sense, she claimed that the sense was working to slow.
my problem is that when ever i open the camera or tring to download a file from the internet the phone shows this message :
" no external storage available "
i have googled for solution and found this guide : "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863222&__utma=248941774.1679602437.1405625169.1408291047.1408296975.3&__utmb=248941774.1.10.1408296975&__utmc=248941774&__utmx=-&__utmz=248941774.1408296975.3.3.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=(not%20provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=33189693"

No it shouldn't as it could format the SD card by it self. Unplug from computer and format in recovery and also. There's a sneak peak for a upcomming ROM for sxl

i found the solution. if you did a backup it will work. in cwmr you navigate: backup and restore and confirm, than navigate to advanced restore and confirm. you will get a backup file, confirm on that file, now navigate to restore sd-ext and confirm and wait.after done, reboot. now works with no problems. i had same problem,i downloaded 5 roms for htc from this site(developers) and all have same annoying thing with external card. if i restore my whole system always work.so problem are those roms, something is not made it properly sigh.
