I love my vivid but every once in awhile it'll freeze or get sluggish and you need to reset it. So I do, but everytime I reset it, it goes to a screen saying android is updating like its downloading ics all over again? What's happening?

Lol its not downloading or reinstalling ICS all over again...
What happens is when you reboot it clears cache (too much cache can cause problems...like slow down apps) because the coach gets cleared it has to re optimize the applications
So all that's happening is the apps are getting re optimized...
If you don't want this to happen then you have to get a deodexed ROM, because this is just a feature of stock ICS roms...and stock ROMs are always odexed...but any custom ROM will be deodexed for the most part...there's a rooted deodexed stock ROM if you want to keel it stock

After rooting my phone and after using it fire about a week something weird happened to my phone, on Sunday the phone restart it itself and when it booted up the phone was stock on the Samsung screen after the metro pcs boot animation. I took out the battery several times but to no avail. It was dead. I finally took it to metro yesterday and they have me a brand new one. I'm more sure if i will root it again though.

Setting phones on fire usually kills them.
Did you try CPR on it? Check if it still has a heart beat.

You would have root/unlock bootloader... Then install a recovery... Then flash a deodexed ROM

It's not a problem... It's the way ice cream sandwich works
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
From what I understand, this is completely normal, Gingerbread used to do this every time it booted, what it is basically doing is building/updating the DALVIK cache for the JIT compiler. ICS does the same thing but it actually shows you what it is doing instead of just making you look at an emotionless boot-screen.
Go to menu then power then enable fastboot. From then on ice will only optimize after a cache wipe. Or fresh install and such

Just curious. Why go out of your way, to possibly screw up something that is working? It does take about an extra minute or two to boot up, but what would you be doing with that extra time.
Yea you got a point thanks ill leave it alone lol

It's actually not a normal Ice Cream Sandwich thing (on every boot), but rather a bug in the ICS release from HTC. It should only do it once on first boot up or after a dalvik cache wipe. As far as I know, it's been reported to them many times as a bug. Who knows when they'll fix it.
But yes, a de-odexed ROM would get rid of this.

Download RE Explorer then press the little button up right "R/W" to gain write privilege and then go to:
system/framework and delete "com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar" and the below .odex file then go to: system/etc/permissions and delete "com.google.widevine.software.drm.xml"
That's it! Restart and the issue is gone...say thanks please
Note: if it doesn't work your system rebuilds the files on start up, do the same from the file manager of your recovery...guaranteed!

Happened before and a factory reset fixed it. Just tried to install the kangbang custom kernel (I have S-off'd my vivid) and it's happening again. Any ideas why/how to fix it? will factory reset fix it while letting me keep the custom kernel?
I thought kangbang didn't work on stock roms. I would try flashing a different kernel

Read through and it seems you're right. Just tried a different one that says it's compatible with all vivid rooted stock and custom roms... which mine is stock rooted... and same thing. any ideas?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575568 < kernel i tried
I see a bunch of instructions that include going in to some folders that dont exist on my phone.
I'm done with this crap, where can I download the stock kernel and just use the phone like it was meant to? this isn't worth the hassle it's giving me at all.
KB is still screwed up on Holiday base. Don't waste your time; even if it boots, you won't see a lot of its performance benefits.

Hello all here is the issue. My girlfriend has the HtC vivid and I have rooted it and obtained s-off with the wire trick. After I was done with this I attempted to find a good ROM for flashing there are very few. I decided on Virtuous Inquisition after installing VI I was fairly happy with the outcome no sense is the goal here. After the flash I noticed the signal bars not working like descired in almost all the non-sense HtC vivid ROMs. This seemed like no problem because the phone still technically had service right?
-well after using it for a few days my girlfriend disconvered that her text messages would fail to send sometimes actually sending them sometimes not. It would take serveral attempts to send the message and once it finally sent the recipent would sometime recieve for than one messages even though the vivid says it only sent 1. The same thing occured with phone calls she would have to try to call someone four or five times before it would go through. It also works the other way and sometime she will not get messages or calls for long periods of time.
This all occurs in VI and in [TEAM CODEFIRE][ICS]De-Sensed Rom by Wajee 1.6. I have tried using the stock kernel and the provided kernel with both of these as well. I have also used several different APNs and they all do the same thing.
I just flashed the stock kernel and ROM back on to the device and I am seeing if she has any problems. Could the wire trick have damaged the phone? I have not heard of anyone else having this problem.
What else can I try
Both of the desensed ROMs have plenty of issues. Wajeeh's is probably the better bet if you wanna stick with no sense. Otherwise Google wcx illuminati and go with that. It's the best ROM for the vivid by a LONG shot.

Well I think I found my problem. I unlocked the boot loader on the phone the first time I flashed a ROM but re locked it. I just noticed it was lock so I unlocked it and installed wajee 1.6 and so far so good.

Disclaimer: Flash this ROM at your own risk. I am not responsible for what you do on your device. I left this stock to provide a base for anybody that wants to use it. Mod this rom how you want. Just please remember to give credit where credit is due.
This is a pure stock rooted rom. It has items like busybox, init.d support and so forth. No apps were added or removed. Both Odexed and Deodexed versions below.
This is using stock unmodified kernel from HTC. Kernel source can be grabbed from HTCDev

That option was there before too, but it reset it to "off" after updating. It's off by default in the shipped rom too, for some odd reason.
