Random Question & not sure who to ask so i figured the great people at XDA might know.
I'm thinking of buying an electric blanket (My bed gets SO cold in the evnings/night) just to warm my bed up before I go to sleep, But i have no experance with them & know nothing about them. I've searched online & all I seam to find is either horror stories or people saying "Don't buy them, there not safe" etc
Well are they safe to use? & If so what should I look for? Is there ratings or certain safty things I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance guys & girls
I am using one since 3 years and I am still alive. Hope that helps.
EDIT: I actually don't like them alot cause of the wiring inside. I would rather go with a heavy blanket or sth like that. But yeah, when I gets fricking cold, I use them
Glad to hear your still alive! lol
Ahh is the wiring in them uncomfatable then? Would i not be able to put it under my sheet & it be hidden??
Links to said horror stories. Idk, maybe if you get one at the dollar store, the wires might break, but my mom and grandma have been using em for ages. No problems except they might wear out prematurely.
I don't need a sig, but would love a cig.

That is the first one that comes to mind. But its good to hear other people have been using them & are fine.
Any recomendations on brands or is it just avoid the cheep ones?
Water beds have heaters so they don't get too cold, if sleeping on electric heated water is safe I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with just an electric blanket. I would refrain from leaving in on unless your using it, same as any heater.

I think the general rule is that you should use an electirc blanket to warm the bed for half an hour or so before you get into it, but you should always turn it off before getting in. Leaving it on once you are in runs the risk of falling asleep with it turned on; possibly burning yourself or starting a fire

But to answer your question, I would just avoid the cheap ones. Not saying buy an expensive one. But just like anything in life, the cheap ones are cheap for a reason. Testing, materials, ect.

Newer ones have a timer built into it. High/Low switch and a timer that keeps it from running for too long.

Damnit, you're right, LOL.
Get one from Argos, as has been said use it to wam your bed up before you get in then turn it off and pack it away.
Get a winter duvet too. John Lewis have a £1,000 duvet!
For that money I'd want a buxom woman with it to warm the bed
I use one every night during winter. I don't run my heat until I have to and even then not very high. I don't know the brand.... I do know I got it at walmart after winter when they were marked way down one year. Probably about 4 years old and still kicking.
I used to use one during the winter in my old room. Used it overnight and everything, kept me nice and toasty warm and not dead lol. Kinda wish I knew where it was (still in a box from moving), my room got down to like 55 last night. Totally my fault though cause I left the window open, but still lol.

Why is there not some kind of shocking device implanted into cell phones to shock people every time they say something stupid? There is a mic there and speech recognition is sophisticated enough to recognize stupidity so where are the stupid-shockers?

Yeah that's the one. I saw it a long time ago.
So, I had a local deal in trading my HTC Rezound for a Razr Maxx. We kept in contact via text. The trade was my Rezound for the Maxx. Then I was asked what accessories it came with, so I told them it came with screen protector , and they asked, "if you get an extended battery, you got a deal ."
So I said ok to getting the extended battery and ordered it the same day. Took about 4days to get to my house. I contact the person saying I received the extended battery and asked when we could meet. We agreed on the upcoming Saturday. Saturday comes, and the person asks if we can meet around noon , I said ok.
About 15mins later I receive a text saying the deal is canceled as the person is giving it to their father. So I say ok. I check Craigslist about 20 mins later and find the same person selling it. I emailed the person asking for a trade to make sure it was them. Same email, same location, and same number. My conclusion, I was lied to.
I don't have a problem if they decide not to do the trade, but don't say you're gonna do the trade, have me buy an expensive item, then lie to me about not wanting to the trade by saying you're giving it to your dad. Just don't blatantly lie to me that you're nit interested in the trade. The fact that they lied is more of why I'm pissed.
Was I wrong to be too trusting? Maybe.
Anyways, thanks for reading
My head hurts. I need a drink......and maybe a wall to bash my head against.

This is relevant to my interests, please continue......
I will highly recommend two buckets of golf balls as having only one is illegal in some states.
The rule was implemented after a massive horse carriage accident happened back in 1768 in the village of Weinstenstern, England. The initial investigation done by the then forensic team found out that the horses had eaten what appeared to be pine cones causing them severe stomach issues and then passing out due to the internal damage because of the pine cones structure.
After the autopsy they also realize that what appeared to be golf balls have been thrown on the road making it almost impossible for the carriage operators to avoid imminent dead.
So on a referendum the then Mayor of said town made it into a law to carry at least two buckets of golf ball instead of just one in order to keep the balance of the universe and to avoid any more pine cone incidents.
The actual article can be found here www.1768referendumgolfball.org
Hope this helps mate.

Let's share our story of how we almost drop our phone and the mini heart attack it gave.
This is my story. I never drop my phone before and it is just less than half a month old.
I used to hate how it is a bit tight to plug the charger jack into the phone, until....
It was like any normal day, nothing out of the ordinary happen. The sun rise and and my day pass like yesterday. Night came and i needed to charge my phone. So I plug in my charger to the phone as how i always do. I was not prepared for what would happen next and how it would change how I see life as a whole.
I did not notice that the cable connecting my charger to my phone was caught by the edge of the arm rest of my chair. And as i was pulling the chair to sit, time begin to slow down. I begin to see everything in slow motion, how my phone was slowly sliding from the table to the edge as i pull the chair out.
My heart started to beat with speed, as one would experience after a long jog. I could see how the phone drop of the edge, and as that was happening I swing my left hand hoping to grab the phone, but it was not fast enough. My right hand scrambled only to manage to grab on to the cable. Everything happened so fast and yet so slow as i was waiting for sound of my phone dropping on concrete floor, it was about waist level my table but I didn't know what sound to expect. It seems like my heart was just at the edge to enter a cardiac arrest and the sound of my phone dropping is what that will push it.
As my ears were waiting for the sound, it is then my eye notice and i then realize that my phone was hanging on by a thread by the cable. I quickly but carefully pull my phone up by the cable and grab it. With my heart still racing but I start to calm down.
My true story of a near death experience. This all in less than 10 seconds. :victory:
IB4A...
Okay, seriously, I was drunk last night, and I was going to call someone, and while I took my month old phone outta my pocket I obviously drop it. It dropped screen facing to the ground on gravel and I got a crack on the screen.
Kids, what I learned that day, was never take your phone with you when you go out with a bottle of rum...
Sent from my potatato
Any time I've been drinking and am wearing one particular pair of jeans, I miss the pocket and just drop the phone straight onto the ground (luckily it's held up so far). It's become such a nuisance that I just never wear that pair of jeans.
I once prank called someone.

Somehow I drop my phones fairly often, and have yet to break one. I drop them out of my hands, they fall off the desk, the whole car dock falls off of the windshield. No problems.

Just wan to know how many people are turning electrical devices(of any type) off while thunderstorms's. If you don't do that, do you have protections like over-voltage protected power-boards?
I don't turn them off, but I have much protection against the worst case
I usually turn them off, but not all the times.
I have a Tripp Light power supply, besides working as a surge protector (which I have in every outlet I use), if the power goes out I can safely shut down my TV receiver consoles etc. At that point I usually unplug all those things and fully charge my phone and tablet, tether the tablet to the phone and wait until the power comes back.
Only time this was not sufficient for me was last year when all the tornadoes hit us and the power was out for 4-10 days depending on where in north Bama you were at. That was complete chaos!! 7PM curfew and Martial law. Every time I get a chance now I urge people to keep as much gas in cans as possible, canned food for a week, and a few hundred dollars cash in a safe place like your garage at ALL TIMES! Lucky for me I had my bug out bag and a full tank. But it was really rough on allot of people, my parents even left the state. Anyways I got off topic there but its good advice!
Edit: corrected grammar so prototype7's head doesn't explode.

It rarely happens in San Diego either. But our infrastructure collapses with the slightest breeze, so power outages are common. I love power outages, though, because all my devices are off, and its the perfect occasion to put ice in the cooler and get rip-roaring drunk in the dark.

There's thunder here like once a year, so the answer is never.

Lol, are you telling me the last time I saw thunder / heard lightning was yesterday and that it's still raining?? Are you a wizard??
I know a really bad electrician, want me to send him over to rewire your house? Not only would you spend a whole lot of time in the dark but you'd have the added excitement of not knowing which switch/appliance in the house was one day going to fry you like bacon...
Kinda like drunk in the dark russian roulette, with electricity...

Not allowed to tell you about the wizard part, but I was talking about myself. I thought that might confuse you but was too lazy to clarify.

It's a cat 1 hurricane with a nor'easter that's being forced onto land by a high pressure ridge and it's going to hit the jetstream.
I'm in the path of the storm and I think if you don't think it's going to be bad maybe you should refrain from posting here.
I for one, am worried.

Dare I say the Perfect Storm?
Seriously. Calm down. It is a rain storm. If you are worried leave. Don't sit around and wait for the government to get you out.

It's more than a rain storm.
I'm high enough that flooding isn't a concern. Winds however, are.
(That being said I never wait for the gov't to do anything.)
I've already evacuated my pets and loved ones. I'm stuck here because of my job. I'm responsible for pulling all the cabs off the streets and putting them back on road when conditions allow (tomorrow night? Wed?)
