I have a stock GT-P1000, locked to Vodafone Portugal, with firmware 2.3.6, baseband P1000BUJQ1, kernel 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2 and the compilation number is GINGERBREAD.BUJQ3, can i root with CF-Root from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885734) ? which file should i choose ? if not, how can i root this device ?
still can't find any rooting method compatible with my setup, been searching google and xda, and everyday i have more doubts about this ... any ideas ?
if you want to consider an alternative that most people use: overcome method.
the links are in my signature.
It is a two step process and will wipe your tab;
Download from the links 4 things:
-Gb-stock-safe-v5
-the guide (PDF)
- overcome kernel tar
Jump to guide page 7
Follow the picture to flash GB-stock-safe rom
after that, follow the picture to flash overcome kernel tar
and you will have CWM recovery.
You won't have root yet, but using cwm you can flash ICS or JB roms.

thanks for you suggestion, i've already seen overcome kernel and some of your posts, but i think this kernel isn't the most adequate for me, because it has too many mods. i want a kernel that is as close to the original as possible, like CF-Root kernel. Besides, i still don't know if i can flash the overcome kernel on top of what i have ...
Can't help you much, sorry.
I don't even know how the kernel mods in overcome affect me when I was using it.
I just use it it a while before moving to red pill kernel.
Again, I don't know what mods were in that, just like the stability, speed, and battery consumption.

Hey people. I am wondering how to flash roms on my phone. When I downloaded Cyanogen mod, I booted into clockwork mod recovery, when I apply the update, it says "E: signature verification failed , E: .... aborted. "
I am currently using 2.3.3 . What are the ways I can do to flash roms? I want my phone to be faster and to lengthen the battery life. Thanks you for your help.
You need to root your phone. This should be done with something like cf-root. If you have rooted your phone using something like superoneclick you will get this error. The error is from still having 3e recovery which oneclick rooting tools do not remove.
You can find cf-root in development forum. You will also need odin to flash cf-root. All instructions in first post.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using Tapatalk 2
Or you can go to wiki page of cyanogenmod for galaxy s and there are clear step by step instructions to follow.

You could also just flash an Odin flashable rom like Darkys JVU RE. It comes with rooted kernal and then you can go to almost anything from there.

Actually not a bad plan the download gives you everything you need, the tutorial/guide gets you started with a basic understanding and from here you can start flashing whatever you like.
Get Darky Resurrection here...
IMHO, the documentation for how to install Cyanogen Mod is crap. However according to the developers there's a good reason behind that. They don't want newbies to flash cyanogen mods. As arrogant as that sounded, it's a reasonable argument. AOSP roms are as far away from vanilla roms as you can get. It's better to start with a modified version of a vanilla rom instead, get comfortable with using Odin, then move onto CWM roms.
Guess that may be for some but i used the cm guide with ease to flash my first rom and kernel. cm7 and all instructions were there step by step.

I followed the step by step wiki and they always gives me the same answer. Verifying package..... Installation aborted. Ok so how i do i flash the darky's rom? My firmware is 2.3.3, Baseband I9000DXJV9, Kernel version [email protected] #2 Sorry but i am a newbie. I dunno anything about cf root or kernel and all. I dont understand the post made by chainfire. Please please please make it as simple as you could. Thanks for your help. Cheers!

And yes i did use superoneclick. So how do i do cf root with the information of my phone stated above?^^^ I am not sure of what is to be downloaded from the chainfire post.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
If you go to the section about your phone there is a build number... It may be something like gingerbreadxxxjvt for example. What you need are the last three digits so in the example jvt. You then download the jvt version of cf-root.
You will need odin and cf-root. Odin and stock roms can be found at sammobile.com. You must register but it is free.
Another option is to download darky resurrection rom 10.2 just search on google and follow link to darkynsite. This has one download with everything you need. Once you have this you can then flash anything else you like as this has root.

If you follow instruction on cm wiki you should follow instructions for root first. The error you have here is from presuming you have root after using superoneclick. I know this because i had the same errors as you when i first started out.
Cf-root is easier and once complete the wiki instructions work fine.

I would suggest first move to value pack 2.3.6, then use cfroot and then you can flash any rom of your choice.

thanks love you guys. I succesfully flash cm7 to my gt-I9000 and I love it. But I want to ask something, I updated to 2.3.6 XXJW4 , But why on my phone it says 2.3.7? Now I am unsure which rom can i choose.
Hi all,
I own a Galaxy Tab P1000 bought in UK and not sim locked.
I bought it in Carphone Warehouse.
Now I wonder if I can install ICS on my Tab.
I know nothing about kernels in general so please do not come up with install this kernel, that kernel.
I have a stock 2.3.3 ROM updated via Kies and I rooted it.
I just want to keep all my features working on my Tab (camera, data, voice and so on) after the upgrade so I am not interested if some stuff is not working.
If these requirements are met I wish you could come up with an upgrade procedure for dummies with the link to all files needed.
Again I know nothing about kernels so please try to explain what I am gonna do.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Federico.
Well, too bad.
Samsung won't make ICS for this tab, so no L
kies update for you.
And yeah, we all will tell you to install a kernel+cwm to flash it.
And no spoon feeding either...
Go to overcome site
Http://www.teamovercome.net
Read the guide,
Missing pictures can be seen here.

Follow the picture step by step.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have Gingerbread JQ1
You can continue with the rest, and you will get Overcome 4.1 and you won't regret.
From there you can then try AOKP or CM9, all requires you to have Overcome Kernel with its CWM recovery to flash.
Links are easy to find in their individual thread.
Come back here after you have overcome rom, come back here and I am willing to guide you further.

I am reading some information. It looks like there are stability problems with custom roms. Endless loops with one. Wifi disconnecting on the other. When I was using a sony ericsson x10 I used to install custom roms. Just all had bugs and I always went back to stock. Thing is that the tab is more complicated and I am not willing to brick it either.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
P.S. Cwm is already installed on my tab. Just not the kernel.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
You need cwm 5.x to be successful I think.
Btw, gtab is quite hard to brick, as long as you didn't screw up the boot loader.

Steps should be to:
- Install GB-stock-safe-v5.zip (Odin) (I have 1.85 is that ok?)
- Install Overcome 4.0.0 Kernel (Odin) (I have 1.85 is that ok?)
- Install Overcome 4.1 ROM wipe (via CWM, should I use wipe or no wipe?)
Once I am done with that I can use CWM to install an ICS ROM if I wish.
I think I got this correctly didn't I?
Ok, I am now lost about which specific ROM to try. CM seems more stable but is there any specific release (more stable) that I should be looking for? Could anyone please link a post to a stable ICS CM release for my tab?
I recently got a T-Mob Galaxy Tab T849, and have been reading to update to GB or above. Problem is, everything starts with Overcome, and all those links are dead. Mirrors are dead, and alternate sites all go back to the dead links. I have the Overcome Kernel 4.0.0.Tar though. So here is the question. Can i simply flash the kernel via Odin like I would on a phone, then use the included recovery for flashing ROM zips, or do I have to use the stock.safe.v5 that Overcome states before I can Odin that kernel? If the Overcome method has to be followed, does anyone have a reliable mirror to the files, or is there an alternative that I am missing? Any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated

Thank you very much for the direction.
Been looking around the forums not sure If I'm not looking in the right places or just blind But looking for a safe kernal such as Hydracore to flash in my note, was wondering if there is any new version available.
[Please keep it noob friendly]
Georific
Hydracore 7 is stable so no need to update it. There is a hydracore reborn too for Touchwiz jelly bean roms.
Finally there is Phils kernel too which is safe stock but with added Cwm features.
There are more, but them 3 are the most popular

Thanks for the quick response, mind linking me some of the threads that have the downloads and also one more thing, do you know any step-by-step tutorials on how to flash a kernal and roms to the galaxy note. I followed one a while back and links are outdated was wondering if you link me a noob friendly tutorial.
I seriously think you should not flash anything if you cant even find it yourself...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
That's hydracore 7 can't really link things using xda app its a pain in the ass.
Anyway, find the kernel you want, if its a Cwm flashable one then place on your sd card, reboot recovery and flash it (install zip from sd, choose zip from sd)
If it's odin version (.tar) then load it into pda section of odin and reboot into download and hit start.
Same applies with roms, just load em on your sd and flash in recovery, read the OP for detailed step by step install instructions, some require wipes of /preload and /system

Hello, I have been reading for a long time now on threads all over this forum and there is simply too much for me to take in. So I thought maybe I could ask for help and one of you clever people could help me.
I would like to update the firmware on my tesco samsung tab gt-p1000 wifi and 3g to anything 4.+ oh and suitable for the uk. I'd like to still be able to make calls, use gps text and wifi general stuff. If some one in the know could suggest all the downloads I would need and point me towards a guide that suits those I would be very greatfull. p.s I think the tablet has been messed about with before as it has no serial number but I don't know.
Please don't just post ''read this thread'' I'm asking for some one how knows this information and just say ''use the modem LINK, this rom LINK, this software LINK and follow this guide LINK or similar.
From my research there are other people looking for the same build. If there is already one out there. link me up please.
I maybe looking for a complete odin build !
currently firmware is 2.2, baseband version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 , FROYO.XWJJ3

Thanks for letting me know that.
So how will I do it?
You can follow my signature to overcome method.
Your have froyo, so you must root your ROM to enable you to check if you have protected bootloader.
And if you do, then to patch it.
Gingerbread doesn't have such issue.
But all that is in overcome PDF guide.
Once you have overcome kernel, it gave you cwm recovery.
With that you flash custom ROM.
