[Q] droid 3 890/906 rooted, gps + camera = unstable cam/vid rec? - Motorola Droid 3

so, i was on 890 and my camera started to blip black screen and back to the cam. in video mode, it would stop the recording and go back as well. thinking that it was cuz i rooted, i unrooted, upgraded to 906, and tested again. same issue. thinking it was camera360, i removed it (why i thought it was that app, dunno), and still did it. after a long time, finally decided to disable gps recording and it stopped blacking out and video recording actually lived for 15 or so minutes. rooted and tether works too now... O_O... anyone experienced same issues? if not, thinking of RMAing it back to amazonwireless... 9 months so far..
Sent from my Droid 3

I have had the Droid 3 since it was originally released. I have used both builds you mentioned extensively and I have always had bad luck with the camera/video apps as well. I have mentioned elsewhere how Motorola's cameras for the Droid series have always been a little lacking in my opinion (I have had the Droid and Droid 3.). I generally have the GPS off and I don't like location tagging so most of my problems with the camera happened with GPS turned off. I ran the 890 build stock for a few weeks and the rooted, updated to 906 and quickly rooted. Under all 3 cases, and still to this day, sometimes when I take a photo it will act like its trying to save then the app will crash and take me back to the launcher. Sometimes it will save the picture, but most of the time it won't.
That being said it may just be a bigger overall problem that this fone just has. Its an awesome fone but the camera has always been a sore spot with me. I have heard the droid 4 camera is a little better but don't have any long term experience with it to report.

well, downgraded to 890 again, and left it unrooted, and camera worked perfectly.. really odd.. no black blips, and hard clanking inside the system. GPS/geolocation works as well.. camera360 app as wel. just recorded 1 hour of nonsense and couldn't do that when rooted ;/
after a while, I decided to up it to 906. still working good. could it be some sort of glitch within the rooting method that causes the camera to go unstable?
this is where, when in camera mode, or in video mode, it seems like when it's focusing, the camera display blips black, there's a hard thunk, and after a few milliseconds, it goes back to the camera/video again - if recording, the recording ends - the video survives usually.
can anyone test? it happens more when the camera is used a lot and/or video mode has been running a bit.

apparently, it's now failing in non-rooted state now. gonna RMA it i guess :] hopefully they'll let me choose a different phone since Droid 3 is not available anymore heh
UPDATE: apparently, verizon doesn't want me easily replacing my phone, they have me in "SAFE MODE" and so far, it hasn't crashed.. wtf...

Camera causing phone crash

Anyone else experiencing crashes when they use the camera app, finish what they're doing, close out, use the phone and then go back to the camera? Multiple times I've used it to snap photos and exit, then come back later to launch the camera app only to have it sit, with the icon lit blue and then crash the phone after 2-3 minutes of sitting
Something similar happened within 1 hour of owning the phone for me, wife was testing out the camera and was not waiting for focus and kept tapping the shutter button, phone made the shutter sound in a continuous death loop for a few minutes and rebooted.
Yes, I have experienced a crash from the camera app too. Later, the camera had an error that wouldn't allow me to open the app at all. When I tried to open the camera it just kept displaying "Unable to initialize camera," it took a reboot to fix it. I think it was caused by opening the camera app and sleeping the phone then waking it a few times. Plus, the panorama function has failed me. It didn't crash the phone, but it just didn't work. Hopefully Motorola will address these bugs in the future but I won't be holding my breath.
Yeah it has happened to me twice

Yeah, I've had to pull the battery out to get it to reboot. Pretty craptacular - can't wait for root on this baby
It's happened twice to me. Motorola has admitted the camera app has a bunch of problems that they're working on.
Happens here too
what a fail by moto how did they release this to the public
did anyone from the moto forum (matt) address this and anything else
phone is very buggy choppy and mine reboots alot too

Yes, Matt admitted that the camera is being worked on by Moto and partners between the crashes and the blue tint problem.
Hopefully its only a software problem that can be corrected, the camera app definitely needs some work. Maybe a 3rd party app can help us in the mean time, anybody know anything that works?
Based on recommendations, I just got Camera360.
So far it seems to be working great!
Is blue tint gone?

When the camera works, it takes great pictures. Unless you're talking about camera360?
This is something that we have to deal with when we buy a new phone. Yes sometimes the phones don't have big issues and sometimes they do. Its the curse of new phones. But im very hopefull that an update is right around the corner.

I mean is the blue tint gone with Camera 360, or is it a hardware problem

[Q] Camera OIS recently started jumping

I've had my N6 since the 8th with no issues at all and suddenly it seems the OIS is acting up when I open the camera. Whatever mode I'm in it jumps all over the place and when in video mode this is then recorded in the same way. Its had no known drops and is in a rugged case anyway.
Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix?
I have this issue while in landscape mode.. Seems like an RMA is the only solution.
I currently have this issue also. Jumps side to side in landscape mode then up and down in portrait mode. Your saying that it's hardware related? I really dont want to deal with the RMA process. I dont have the funds to do so either.
I've used the camera a lot, why has it suddenly started happening? Is there not a way to turn the OIS off? I've never had it before so I wouldn't miss it. I've looked in dev options and I've not rooted since JB so would rather avoid doing so.
Edit: Have any of you used Camera FV-5? I'm wondering if its since I used it as I didn't revert settings before uninstalling.
My camera is having the same issue. It jumps all over the place you can even hear it click. I decided to RMA. Should be getting another one soon.

I use Camera FV-5 and all is fine with OIS on my side (at least for now) therefore I don't think it has anything to do with the issue you reported.

Thanks, I'm happy its not the app as I liked some of the features. Guess its back to Tesco UK then. They should be ok for returns
Did you try with factory reset? I saw a case in which that solved it.

Yeah, I tried it twice just to be sure. I was considering flashing a stock image at one point. I've taken it back for a replacement which should be ready to pick up on Monday. Just sat with my N5 for now and it feels tiny. How do my thumbs even fit on the screen? I was dreading going for such a big screen and now it's like I'm back on my old HTC Desire I had years ago. At least it's proved to me that when it comes to phones, bigger is better

I've never used Camera FV-5 and my phone has been in case (Spigen Neo Hybrid) since I took her out of the package.
Started out couldn't open the camera until after i rebooted consistently after taking pictures and stuffing it in my pocket; then focused like every 6 seconds this was annoying in video mode, then jumped side to side when in reg camera mode and video but not HDR+; but now its so bad that I can't even take pictures and forget zooming in looks like I'm in a fishbowl. Started RMA process today.

FDR (Factory Data Reset) did nothing for me. When I got home today I flashed stock 5.0.1 still have the same issue.
Here is a video I tried at the Texans game Sunday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buzw9WZuHZ0

Just looked directly at the camera and can see the lens moving around inside. Its definitely broken.
I have the same issue. Received on 12-14. Issue began and RMA created 12-22. Moto also has No stock to fulfill rma's with. Mine issue is in panorama mode only.
Video of camera jumping around. http://youtu.be/OkVoTMe1byo
Is there a way to try and FORCE this to happen? I get TINY a mounts of it but I'm not sure if its just the camera refocusing or if its actually an issue.
I have a similar problem that I believe is related to the OIS but instead of jumping it is almost vibrating. It focuses for a second then a blurry vibration look. I was gonna start the RMA process this afternoon.
Same problem didnt happen at first got worse over time, happens frequently now
I have the same problem. It did not happen for the first 5 or so days, then it started every once in a while, now it happens every time i record video.
Camera would refocus itself 2-3 times every few seconds -- seemed pretty rapidly but everyone seems to report this so I just assumed it was normal, but this constant refocusing during video could be an early warning sign that you will develope the OIS jumping problem.
Here is a video of the issue happening on my device:
http://youtu.be/H22vEKbujJk
Im on the phone right now with GPS store and this issue, my N6 camera has major shifting. The guy on the phone is checking if its a "known" problem, its sounds like he doesn't believe me, lol.
Having the same problem. If phone is in portrait, the image becomes incredibly fuzzy like an old television. In landscape, it's normal.

Camera stottering - New rom / kernel a solution?

Hello,
because i bought a new phone i gave my "old" Nexus 6 to my wife. Since a updated to Marshmallow i had problems with the camera. It stuttered while making a video. But i dont often used the camera, so i ignored it. My wife is Snapchat addicted and she can't make good videos with the front camera of the N6....it's like a slide show....the record is not smooth. I searched at the internet and a lot of people have the same problem since Adnroid Marchmallow ....
I flashed her CM 14, because i thought it might be a problem with the stock rom , but the problem remained. So my question is. Because i know i had not the problem at Android Lollipop. Is there anybody who had the same problem and solved it with flashing another rom? Or is it worth to try another kernel? I looked at the "rom forum" and found the "sky dragon 5.0 with a "new" kernel and probably i will try this. So my question is....is it a problem with the rom? is it a problem with the kernel? is it a problem with the hardware? What you expert think its the best way to fix the problem (i tried tips in the internet like diasble geodata at the photos or disable the battery safer for the camera app).
I hope you are able to understand my english. Otherwise i will explain it in other words.
Thank you very much!
Flash a factory image (will wipe the phone 100% but take it back to bone stock). If the camera issue is present on stock rom, stock kernel, with no modifications, then it's a hardware issue.
i have had problems with stuttering camera app before but it was fixed by resetting the phone. not really sure why after installing a new ROM you still facing this issue.
have you tried other camera apps? download a free one from the store and see its the same deal.
My first Nexus 6 had no issues whatsoever. When I had to RMA that one for the massive battery bulge issue, my second Nexus 6 had the camera stuttering issue. It would happen whether I was taking still shots or video. Obviously it was more noticeable on video, but it still made taking stills difficult. I took a video at the time to post on here to see if other people where having the same problem, but actually never got around to posting it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k23njriKiDk
Anyway, I RMAed that phone for the camera issue but then the third N6 had the same issue. I decided to live with it though since (a) Motorola has a really frustrating return policy/procedure, and (b) since two different devices had it I didn't think there was any guarantee that an RMA would fix the problem.
Fortunately, I've noticed that lately (running Nougat now), the stutter has mostly gone away. I'd say that for still pictures it has gone away entirely. For videos, I think it is gone as long as you use the stock camera app. I've noticed that if you use other apps, like Instagram for example, my video still has issues. In that case though, it's more of a constant refocusing issue than a stutter issue.
So moral of the story is... for me at least, it seems to be ok on Nougat as long as you stick to the stock camera app.

Image stabilisation on 5x tele zoom camera not working

Ever since I updated to EMUI 9.1.0.240 (or at least I only noticed this problem after installing that version) the image stabilisation on my zoom camera is not working.
I'm able to take photos, but the lens itself is constantly shaking around causing blur. I can hear it making these movements (like a buzzing sound) and can even see if moving if I look at it in the right light.
Interestingly, videos on the zoom camera are stabilised fine, so I can take snapshots whilst shooting in video mode, but this is far from ideal.
Anyone else experienced this? Do I need to send the phone back to Huawei?
Has nobody else had this issue?
I've never been that impressed with the 5x zoom image quality on mine, I've always found it hit & miss. I can't hear the focus motor 'seeking' for a lock on mine though....but my ears aren't the best, so it could be I guess.
I'm still on Android 9 too. Was hoping Android 10 might improve things when I finally get the update....though not holding out TOO much hope, but ya never know!
Sometimes I experience this issue. I hope to fix it with next updates.
So randomly it is now working fine. I have no idea why. The only things that happened recently were:
1. I went abroad, so flight mode was used.
2. My phone died overnight once - I was in a place with really bad signal and it went from 80% to dead so I wonder if it ate up the battery trying really hard for a signal.
Either way, it's working fine now since I turned it back on. Really weird. It has been faulty since about November.

NX627J_ENCommon_V2.03 Issues

Hello,
As I own this device for month now, I wanted to share all the software issues I have discovered.
First of all, recording videos. When you move around while recording, the video is choppy. That is pretty much big issue for me as it's one of the features I used to use with previous phone.
Second, selfie camera. When you switch to selfie, default mode is Photo with function "Pretty" set to value 2 - sadly this function mostly makes faces look inhuman (e.g. widening the face) and so having this as default setting when opening the camera app is not really good.
Third - random reboots. I didn't figure out why is it really happening, but it's there. Luckily it has never happened during a call or any activity from my side.
Fourth - when turning off one screen, second screed blinks for very little while. That doesn't really look good either.
Did you also encounter (any of) these issues?

So far so good
I've been using this phone for 3 weeks now
( Without google apps obviously)
This phone is really good
The only issue I've having with this phone is that the screen flickers in some part of the display
Like I'm using all the apps the display is fine but when I'm in Gallery it flickers and it's annoying
I don't know why it's happening
Second the camera quality isn't that great it has all this beautification going on but
I do like that camera family thing it's pretty cool

Guys I have a European z20. The system camera crashes when I try to change from main camera to wide angle or zoom on the tip and shoot. In pro mode instead it works regularly. Anyone who has the european z20 confirm it to me as a bug? Thank you
The phone is lagging with this ugly stock rom. I will try to install the chinese rom, I dont like the global rom, its too bad.
I am willing risk and try this rom. I'm on NC627J_ENCommon_v1.03 and haven't got update for months . I'm guessing if I can flash, can I do it locally on my phone in software update? And is it possible to link me to this rom. I would appreciate it.
