Hi and sry if my post is like many others, but i need strait answers for my particular software version.
So i am running Galaxy Note N7000 is rooted and unlocked with Galaxy_S Unlock apk i think (was locked on SRF France)
Android Version :2.3.6
Baseband version :N7000BUKK1
Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKKA-CL726566
[email protected] #2
Build number :GINGERBREAD.XXKKA
My question is:
Can i upgrade the software from the phone menu Software Upgrade? it is always asking me if i want to install or not.
Can i brick my phone using this method?
If i manage to get ICS on the device will i still be able to use unlock .apk on 4.0.x ?
I use vodafone romania sim
Should i use Odin or Kies or phone upgrade from menu?
Ihave downloaded all the stock roms for my country and carrier (Vodafone)
BTW mobile odin said there is something wrong with my partition, and emmc check will leave black screen and crash after a few seconds (is this something to be worried?)
What method do you guys recommend ?
Thanx in advance !

from the phone it becomes OTA and lot of chances that the phone gets screwed up

if emmc check crashes or hangs that means there are corrupted blocks.

it is best to upgrade via odin .. then comes kies but i am not sure if installing it will lock ur device again.

So i should go ahead and put the stoc ics firmware for my country and update with odin over my rooted gb 2.3.6, no harm will occur?
Should i put the .pit for 16GB when using odin or just put the fw in PDA and hit Start?
I asked if the unlock apk is compatible with ICS also...but i will find out soon )
Thanx
Just read first line on my signature and flash ICS using Odin
I recommend go clean(first wipe cache and data before flashing ICS) and don't wipe once you are on ICS stock kernel
After this find second link on my sign and use method 1A/1B to root.
No need to use pit, though detail instruction is there on my thread

Let me get this right:
1 go to CMWR and clear data and cash, then exit, reboot
2.go into download mode vol - + home+ power
3 connect odin and select the rom into pda
4 hit start and let it do its job, it will reboot into the new ics after that.
then my phone will probably have ICS running but no root and so i cannot use unlock apk, only if i IMEI unlock it so i can stay on stock all the way.
So after i flash stock ics using odin i shall never do a hard reset on my phone even if i do not root it?
thanx for patience and help
correct me if i am wrong at any steps.
thanx again

1. yes You are on GB ROM, so safe
2.OK
3.OK
4.Not probably but it will boot to ROM which you have flash.
If you have network lock, then you have to Root your device to unlock it.
For that use 2nd link on my signature to root it.
Again here one more thin i have to clear
If you select ICS 4.0.4 to flash, then direct network unlock won't work.
For this refer to 'Toolbox' in my signature and follow tool No 18 and then 17
In case of 4.0.3, Tool No 17 only will be fine.

Should i flash Hydracore v5 kernel with odin after my odin upgrade to stock ics just to be sure that no brick bug will happen to my note if i ever do a HW reset?
Yes safe kernel always safe.
Flashing kernel with Odin raise flash counter.
You can flash phillz kernel (which is also safe) from stock recovery. If you want to flash hydracore or any other later you can flash with phillz recovery without raising counter.

Is that possible to unroot my note by flashing a stock rom(with no root and no CWM) using odin?
I rooted by galaxy note few weeks ago by flashing a rooted stock rom(with cwm installed) using odin. Afterward, I flashed rocketrom through clockworkmod.
I am wondering if it is possible to unroot and restore back to stock by simply using odin to flash an unrooted original stock rom(please note i am currently running rocketrom).
I know there are several methods provided in this forum like unrooting by Easy Rooting Toolkit( I know this is not possible which may result in broken system) or CF root(I doubt since i did not use cf root to root my phone), so i want to know whether unrooting by odin works. If not, please provide me any viable solutions, thx!
If you flash a stock version smartphones become like your just bought
Make wipe all before to be sure of the result.

If your ROM(which u r going to flash) is wipe version, it will wipe off all data, in case you have to backuo it first.
If you dont want to keep root, then nothing more steps required. Just flash any stock rom with odin

So by Flashing Stock Rom; Root+CWM will be wipe out too?
No need to unRoot?
But from your Root Guide, you mention
"Now How I can revert back to Stock ROM/Unroot (In case of replacemet may i need)
If You have Root + CWM - then first find out original stock kernel (zImage file)
Now place this file in zImage folder, n repeat procedure(Initial CFRoot Flasher), which you have done at time of pushing CWM by selecting I am rooted already
Now unroot with above said unrooting tool."

This is for whom, who wants to remains on existing ROM. You just can understand stock rom requires 550 mb data to download, while unrooting tools just few Mb.
So who wants new stock rom + unrooting, just flashing new stock ROM with odin is enough.

Thx for your help! Do I need to wipe data/factory reset before going back to stock from rocketrom? Recently there were some ppl saying that they bricked their phone when they tried to go back to stock using odin, this really scared me.
I dont believe note can b bricked by changing rom. Yes it can cause bootloop if you tranafere custom to stock some time. Just xlear cache, delvic cache is enough to solve it. But if you can hard reset b4 changin rom, it is always gud.

-Mobie Odin needs Root
-It keeps your root intact
PC odin can't keep your Root intact, so if you are flashing a ROM, which if newer n not directly rootable, you can't get Root after this.
PC odin gives triangle, n raise flash counter if you flash custom ROM/Kernel
Both are safe.
I have searched at the development page but I am not quite understand what to do for rooting LA4. Expect downgrading the firmware, is there any other ways to root N7000? I have already brought the micro USB resistant which can reset the binary count.
Baseband version: N7000XXLA4
Kernel version: [email protected]#2
Builder number: GINGERBREAD.ZSLA2
have you tried this???
Well, if you don't mind getting the yellow triangle and tripping the binary counter, the simplest way to root LA4 would be:
1. Download CF-Root LA4 kernel to your PC
2. Start PC Odin
3. Boot your Note into Download Mode (volume down + home + power)
4. Connect your phone to the PC
5. Wait for the drivers to get installed and for Odin to recognize your phone
6. Click on PDA and navigate to the CF-Root XL4 kernel
7. Click Start
It'll take about 10 seconds and your phone will be rooted. However, your binary counter will show 1.

I have brought a JIG (301ohm) Micro-USB. It can reset the counter, right?
Switch off the N7000 and reinstall the battery. Then put the JIG in the phone and remove it after getting download mode. That's all?
If it can do so, I will root by the method you provided.
Thank!!

Yeah you are going to use your hong kong rom.You cant root the rom which you have now.You have only three options:
1.Download and flash a pre-rooted stock rom and flash cf-root kernel to get cwm
2.Use Dr.ketan's method.Downgrade to rootable rom,use the script, upgrade to any rom using mobile odin
3.This method only can make you stay in your current Rom.Thats the method chasmodo said.Flash a cfroot kernel through PC odin. But by this method you get triangle and increase counter.
You cannot reset counter or remove triangle with jig as such. There is a sticky in Dev section for it.

Rooted and flash back the original rom successfully with half an hour!
Hi,
I am new to Android Phones. I tried to root my Galaxy Note using the above method
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark
-Downgrade to Rootable GB ROM and Root it. OR Download This pre rooted GB ROM and flash using PC Odin
-Wipe cache, data and delvic cache from recovery
-Install Mobile Odin Pro
-Copy ICS ROM file in .tar (you want to flash) to Internal SD card (recommended, but you can have it on EXT too)
-Download Odin (.tar) version of custom kernel like Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function. If newbies have confusion to select, here is one for example Notecore V12 std kernel. You can use this. But newer version can be found on link mentioned above.
-Open Mobile Odin Pro
-select open file
but i run mobile odin without downloading the odin version of custom kernel (I got confused, I thought I needed to do thisafter running mobile odin) and now my phone is stuck in flashing mode for about 45mins switching on and off.
What should I do?
Thank you in advance for your help...
Christina
Flash Pre rooted ROm again Wipe cache and data and repeat procedure, that will be safe.
It worked! Thank you!
Just a quick question...
I followed all the steps mentioned on the thread up to installing mobile odin and copying the ics rom....
but I am confused with the odin version of custom kernel...I am trying to find the correct cf-root kernel through the link you provided but I can not find the KJ1. I downloaded the one you have attached below mobile odin screenshots. Is that ok?
And also where do I copy the kernel? Internal or external sd? Should it be in a specific directory in order to be detected by mobile odin?
Sorry for all these questions but I looked around and there is no specific instructions anywhere about this part.
Thank you...

Since I am new to the android platform phones, I think it will be better if i explained what my objective is so I won't confuse you too....
I want to be able to install and use rooted applications like titanium back up. I read that in order to do this I have to root my phone.
So what I want to do now is to root my phone in order to use ie titanium black without upping my flash counter.
Also I do not care to have a custom ICS, I prefer the stock one for now until I become more familiar with all these.
I followed the steps but the customn kernel things has confused me.
My phone is as mentioned before a galaxy note with ICS 4.04 before I started the procedure, now I have Gingerbread 2.35.
What should I do?
Thank you

Thank you for the quick reply!!!
Just to be sure, when you say first method you mean the one below
1. Short, easy - requires to reset counter
-Download Odin (.tar) version of custom kernel like Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function. If newbies have confusion to select, here is one for example Notecore V12 std kernel. You can use this. But newer version can be found on link mentioned above.
-Flash it using PC odin for PDA tab.
-You will get exclamation mark and raised counter, which can be reset with Triangle Away
-First time opening triangle away application, it will ask to download file(flasher), let it complete. then choose to reset counter, it will restart in special recovery an finish job.\
If yes, then this brings us back - almost - to my original question....how do i use the custom kernel (cf or notecore) with odin? I know it uzips to a zimage etc but how do I use it which odin? Also which cf kernel -if iuse this one- is correct for my phone? Is there a link you can provide that explains all these?

I switched the phone off and i went to download mode and flash the phone back to stock ICS 4.04 because the mobile odin flashing was stuck ( i watched a video and the flashing wasnt the same, mine kept switching on off the phone like it was missing something)
Any ideas/suggestions about what i should do now?
Phone wotking fine now on 4.0.4?

Hi,
I'm a newbie/noob here in xda-developer.
I used to own an s2 and now i have a galaxy note International Version GT-N7000. Both of them i have rooted. Anyway, i used my old external SD card in my note (came from my s2). I have installed a custom rom in my note (Half - illusion) but noticed that it doesn't have the S Memo and S Note so i decided to switch back to a previous rom i have installed before. My bad that i got confused that I installed an S2 custom rom (Foxhound) instead of the other custom rom for s3. now i'm stuck.
i can't go to download mode. (vol up + home +power). when i turn on the phone, it will only show the galaxy note screen then will eventually fade (my screen will turn to gray with lines).
Please help. is this hard - bricked? is there a way to resolve this? maybe there's like an "odin" that i can just erase the installed s2 rom and install the right rom.
Thank You in advance.
You never mentioned recovery ? does it work ? I assume it wont.
You should try the USB JIG, you can make them or buy them of ebay, That should force you into download mode and allow you to flash a stock firmware FOR THE GALAXY NOTE and get you back on track.
if the JIG doesn't work, try to claim under warranty and blame it on a factory reset / brickbug, Or claim on insurance (if you have it)

got kind of confused between recovery and download mode. which is which?
one thing for sure is i can not open my phone.
power + volume up + home --> screen becomes super blurry and turns blueish gray.
power + volume up&volume down + home --> goes into odin mode. only says downloading. do not turn off target
when i say factory reset to samsung, that means when i did it inside my phone through settings --> backup/reset --> Factory Data Reset? do you think it is possible rather than saying i was asked to upgrade to ICS?

Download mode is Vol down+ home + power, if you can enter it then simply flash Gingerbread stock firmware using pc odin and everything will be fine. Check original dev sticky by Dr.ketan to download stock GB rom for your region and flashing instructions.
Also, stock ICS kernels are not safe to wipe in recovery or in setting, don't do it, it will brick your phone.

thank you for this information. However I would like to know why you mentioned GB rom? is this on the assumption that my phone is still running in Gingerbread? how would you know if a phone is still on stock ICS kernels?

I mentioned GB, so that you can safely wipe if required, you cannot do it on stock ICS roms because of the brick bug, check this. You will be on stock ICS kernel when you update to official ICS rom either via kies, OTA or pc odin and havent changed the kernel to some safe custom kernel yet.
Edit- yes, it's the same thread, check post #2 for GB roms. pc odin is used to flash stock firmwares (except few custom roms) and does not raise custom binary count if you flash anything stock. after flashing stock rom using odin you will be unrooted again so doesn't matter if you are rooted or unrooted now.

Thank you. is this the link you are referring to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997&highlight=dr+ketan ?
i think i read in another forum that pc odin is used to flash custom rom from an official samsung rom. The wya i understood it, since i am already rooted and was running in a custom rom, then this isn't for me. otherwise, it will do something with my binary counter and will void my samsung warranty.
Wait I am updating here
Just don't do anything if you have download mode working

Yep, just make sure you download the latest version (2.3.6). The country and what rom you flash exactly does not matter. This is based on the assumption that you don't have a carrier locked device.
Ok here is steps for you
-Download pit file (it is for 16Gb, if your device isn't 16Gb but 32Gb let me know before proceed)
-Flash with Odin for PDA
-Download KL3 India ROM
-Extract it (pw is samfirmware.com)
-Flash using Odin
here you have to select both file
pit file for pit tab and ROM tar file for PDA
-After successfull flashing reboot to recovery and wipe cache and data
Hope this should work
feel free to ask if you have any confusion.

I need to downgrade my Note from stock JB (N7000OXALSZ Germany) to a rooted GB and then upgrade to another version of JB (N7000OJPLSA UAE) to make my phone localized and rooted. I need step by step guide.
My phone is not rooted and doesn't have safe kernel(I've tried to flash a GB rom with pc Odin and got bootloop after that).
Go to dr ketans thread original development section step by step guide there

I saw that thread but i couldn't find downgrading method(s) there. he just mentioned we should downgrade but didn't specify how to downgrade. and as i said my effort to downgrade was unsuccessful.
Easiest way if you can't figure it out is just use mobile Odin...

I Can't. because my phone is not rooted and mobile odin need rooted device.
Why don't you flash philz kernel for your current ROM(LSZ),do the wipes, and then move on to UAE?
AW: Downgrade from JB to GB
Than use odin for pc to flash GB.
Oh sorry, I have just seen you have already tried this. But maybe you have taken the wrong file.,. Or simply root your phone with Philz and flash the rom you want. No need to go back to GB in my opinion.

Have your flashing to GB was successful?
Anyway reboot to recovery and check how you can make selection of choice, if it is gb recovery then you have to select file using home button while on ics and jb it uses power button.
So if your flash to GB successful and recovery is gb then wipe cache and data. It should boot normally
After this update to jb with odin

Thanks for replies,
I've just flash stock GB(from your list), not a safe kernel or anything else and it was unsuccessful(got bootloop). then i re-flash JB(Germany) to make the phone alive again(and it was successful, so i'm on JB right now), after all of this i decide to ask you what should i do for safe and successful downgrading to have rooted device on JB(UAE)?
Successful means odin was successful to flash it. Don't worry about bootloop, it's common after downgrade. So Reflash gb, if it remains successful to flash then reboot to recovery and wipe cache and data (you can confirm gb recovery by trick said in previous msg)
But if you just want to update other gb rom, then no need to go for gb, just flash jb rom of your choice, don't worry for bootloop
Flash safe kernel
Wipe cache and data
