Hi.
I´m from germany, so no easy way to buy the AHD vehicle dock.
Wonder if the razr dock will fit anyhow`?
Any ideas?
ordered the ahd dock from us..
best car dock i ever had!:good:
Off subject but your car looks awesome

Thx..)
I have the RAZR vehicle dock and I tried using the ahd in it. The only way it really sits in is by removing one layer of the plastic Bezel that is specifically designed for the RAZR. Once that is removed the ahd does fit and charge but there is a few mm gap all the way around the phone so it is loose and puts a bit of a strain on the charging port to hold it in place.

I noticed in looking at the most recent Bionic pic's that there were prongs that indicated wireless charging capability....so of course I took the back of my D3 and I see prongs there too.....so I have to ask....does the D3 have the same capability?
yes, you can buy the charging pad and get the required back cover from Verizon.
Don't quote me on this but I believe it is also possible to use the moto inducting backplate with a Powermat or an energizer pad.

It definitely works. I have bother the wireless charging pad and the inductive battery cover from Verizon and it works. The only problem is that it adds a bit more thickness than even the extended battery cover.
This is why I have been holding off on buying one.. I have a powermat, but I don't feel like buying it online and having it not work, been waiting to check it out in store then be able to take it home and take it back if it doesn't, though like you said I also believe it is possible.. Looking forward to my local VZW store to get them in... They don't have crap accessory wise around me..

Droid 3 inductive backplate is not compatible with Powermat.

This is confirmed. I asked the Powermat twitter account if this would work and they said no.
It appears Best Buy has the Nexus S dock on sale right now for $19.99 instead of the normal $39.99. I picked one up for my Nexus S last night. Be sure to check out your local store if you are in the market

I bought one. It will be handy St work. Decent price I think at $20?

Yikes, just read the reviews on Best Buy's website. Seems that this is not a multimedia dock, but just a piece of plastic that holds your phone while it charges. No speakers or audio input on the dock, nothing multimedia about it.
Then don't buy it

It clearly states in the description that it is designed for you to use the speakerphone and media player while charging the phone. Think of it like a kickstands that charges your phone.

The Nexus S Dock is a bad joke. No comparison to the great Nexus One Dock. I don't want to have to fit in the usb slot every time I put the Nexus into the Dock. With the Nexus you just put the phone on the Dock without fiddling around. I think every Nexus phone should have such charging contacts like the Nexus one did...

Its working perfectly for what I need it for at work. Headphones, charging, and standing. Just wish stock had landscape homescreen like CyanogenMod

I picked one up. If nothing else, it's a cheap OEM charger. They also had an open box Samsung Nexus S car dock for $22.99.
Both work great, especially the car dock. It's nice to have something made for the Nexus S, even though the dock isn't powered (you have to manually plug in the cord). Not a big deal as I've been doing it all along anyway when I get in the car.
yeah this dock is kind of a joke compared to the nexus one dock. i hope the nexus prime or whatever they call it has inductive charging or at least charging contacts like the n1 did.
Hello fellow users- does anyone know if the car dock allows any case to be left on the phone? I'll be in and out of my vehicle a lot with this phone but don't want to have to remove a case each time I dock it. thanks!

Part of the dock is removable to allow clearance for a very thin case. Not sure which ones work, prolly the incipio feather ...

My incipio "steel" style case I got at the AT&T store fits in the car dock with the backing removed.

incipio feather case fits but it's very loose, makes me worry if it's gonna shake while driving. haven't driven with it on yet.
It looks like the droid4 oem moto car dock attaches to the base with a ball joint. Can someone who has one disassemble it (should just be able to unscrew the tightening ring) and measure the diameter of the ball?
Also, can you post some pictures of the dock from the back? It's possible that the dock clips onto the ball somehow, rather than having that part built-in. I'd like to know that if possible.
I'd like to put together a permanent installation dock for my wife's d4 for christmas, but I can't find any pictures of the back to see how this hooks up. So I have no idea what adapter to buy.
Alternatively, anyone have any luck with any other docks (d4-specific if possible, I hate those big ugly universal clamp docks) and can tell me how those mount?
Thanks in advance
I have a RAZR car dock... should be about the same I'll take some pictures for you when I get home as its in my wifes car...

I don't have a ruler or tape measure on hand... sorry

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I see it never got an answer.
Almost all of these phone/gps mounts use 17mm as the standard ball size.
Yeah I didn't even bother measuring as I never got a reply from the pics...

I really liked the fact the dock could do audio out and charge via the pogo pins, so I figured that would be perfect in the car. When I got the dock, I couldn't find a good spot to mount it....until now. The completed setup works awesomely!
All you need for this project is a metal bookend and some JB weld.
Bookend
Dock attached with JB Weld
Piece removed from the cover bezel
Wires fed to where the back of the dock will be
All I did here was wedge the bookend between the radio and dash kit, and then attached the cables for power/audio
BACK TO THE PRIMITIVE!!!!

Why must be you guys insist on doing these butchered-up installs?

What's so bad about it? At least I don't have to plug anything in or butcher my nexus like most "clean" installs.

I don't see anything wrong with it, it looks clean to me. There isn't any damage or anything sticking out...

I guess his idea of contributing is going into threads and complaining for no reason.

Nice ... as long as you do not drive ..
Works fine when driving. The pins actually make better contact if the tablet is pushed slightly forward, so I bent the vertical part of the bookend to keep it slightly forward. Plus the rubber on the rear of the nexus making contact with it seems to create enough friction to keep it from popping up.
WARNING: Turn down your volume.
Good to know this works. I was planning on doing something a bit similar, but slowly building it up to be cleaner in the end. The dock will be an integral part, though.
Do you have any trouble keeping the tablet charged? I know people have no problems if they use one of the recommended chargers from the charger thread, but I wasn't sure if the dock may hinder or slow down charging any.
Awesome! Thanks man

Well I have it set to keep the screen awake while charging, so it does still drain the battery. It really isn't bad though. Barely goes down. The speed of the charging seems equivalent to charging via usb connection, rather than the wall charger.

I get really bad sound distortion using the tablet with the dock in the car, did you have the same issues?

Sorry for not responding for so long. I did have a bit at first when going over bumps, but over time it stopped. I think it's because the pins springy-ness calmed down over time. Also, the bookend helps keep the tablet from moving, because the rubber backing of the tablet makes contact with it and keeps it from too much. So over time, this setup has ended up working perfectly.
I have the same setup. Do you constantly have to enable media output to dock? When I start mine up each time I have to go into the sound settings and fix this.
