Hi
My friend wants to buy new phone. He is confused between Galaxy S (S-Amoled) and Nexus S (S-LCD).
The price & specifications are almost the same.
The most important things for him are the screen clarity and the touch sensitivity.
He thought about Nexus S (S-Amoled) but it's more expensive than S-LCD and can't buy it.
So, Which one of those is better in the screen clarity and the touch sensitivity? Galaxy S (S-Amoled) or Nexus S (S-LCD)?
Both have good displays, though the Galaxy S might have the upper edge in quality, the Nexus has a contour glass which is better in ergonomics, added it's a Google phone so it'll get updated almost instantly

You mean the screen quality of Galaxy S is better?
And in touch sensitivity and response, which one is better?
Nexus S have not cartridge for an external card, but Galaxy S have it...Its pretty different.

Yeah, I know that. But my friend doesn't care about storage. He says that 16 gb internal memory is enough.
OLED hands down IMHO, better colour and no back light sucking up power!
Amoled VS SLCD
Amoled - better black, more saturated colours, too vivid for some people
SLCD - worse black, natural colours, worse contrast
I think the best is to see those screens and then make a decision
I saw some videos and I noticed the amoled is too much better than lcd. Lcd screen is too bright and the colors are bad.
I'll choose amoled for sure.
Thanks everyone.
I do have both I9000 (galaxy S, S-Amoled) and I9003 (Galaxy SL, S-LCD) Aside from the black and viewing angles, its not much difference. Personally if your friend dont really care bout the extra sd slot and display differences,Nexus S seems like a good choices too Nexus S at least has a LED flash for it's camera.

IMHO Nexus S.
Google Phone and camera with flash LED but if you're asking about the two screens .. it's not easy
There are the differences :
Galaxy S
+ SAMOLED screen
+ Memory expansion slot
+ FM Radio
+ 3G video call support
+ HD Video recording (hopefully this would be added later for Nexus S)
Nexus S
+ Google Support
+ Flash light for Camera
Though Galaxy S have several advantages over Nexus S, Google’s software support is a big plus point for Nexus S, you’ll be sure to always have the latest and greatest. On the other hand Samsung’s official firmware support is very poor, however they have shown some improvement over the past few months. They recently released 2.3.3, but whether or not we'll get any future updates is not clear. Picture quality of SAMOLED is better, but SLCD is not too bad either. If your friend don’t care about the hardware advantages of Galaxy S then getting a Nexus S is not a bad idea. If screen is a big concern, then why don't you ask him to go check out both and compare ?

Which has better (wider) viewing angles?
Hi
My Galaxy S got a permanent screen burn-in after 6 month use.
After got a service, I think I got a LCD instead of AMOLED.
So, I'm wondering if galaxy s (i9000) can use LCD(probably for i9003).
Anyone know this? I'd like to complain about this.
Because, I bought Galaxy S to get OLED screen.
Thanks in advance.
anything is possible tho this sounds very unlikely to happen.
try to compare it to another SGS and see if theres a difference (and dont forget that a poor screen protector can change colors)
if u r still unsure u should send it to a lab to get it checked
Dude, believe me if you had your phone for 6 months and got a LCD display, you wouldn't be just thinking it wasn't AMOLED - you would have already sent it back for replacement. Just look at the display at a steep angle from all the sides and if it doesn't fade to white you've got AMOLED.
Would the amoled screen on the rogers vibrant s work on the T-Mobile t959 phone? I have the t959 with a cracked screen and can get the rogers phone with a bad internal SD for about 40 which is cheaper than buying a screen new and I know how to swap I just don't know compatibility anyone have an idea?
Can i putt a lcd on my galaxy s1 amoled version?
Touchscree iz broke, realy bad but still works.
So i need a new touchscreen.
And i cant find one without a lcd screen
Has anybody had chance to play with one i dont really care about pixel destiny over 300 what i care contrast and brightness last year best display was htc one x even one x+ wasnt as bright as one x

hi i have already read that but want to be 100 percent sure
can anyone please confirm is brightness as bright as iphone 5 ot one x cos i live in very sunny place i need bright screen before purchase
Its not as bright as the One x..iphone 5 is the brightest out there at 650 cdm..But it has the best contrast. Saw many youtube vids mention it..So, in essence its the most accurate display.

All I know like the one x, it is too bright for my eyes. I have brigthness at approx 35% and it is brighter than the xperia z at the same level. I wouldnt be able to tell you about iphone 5 as I am alergic to crap phones! which is why I was suffering with the curve 9320 but suffering is now over.

yes i think like phonearena reported its slightly lesss than before
which is sad the One X was super bright at 25% so you still had a long way till 100%
but battery complaints and nagging all the time with samsung only using half the brighness at full, must have driven them to reduce it a little
I'm from England, so it doesn't exactly shine here, but under bright light it was still very. very good. Sound for music is very good, except for max volume it starts to get distorted, but still a lot better than anything else out there. call quality is simply perfect.

I played with it, couldn't tell much of a difference between it and my Evo LTE
I have a difficult choice to make between choosing the three 2013 1080p flagship smartphones...
HTC One:
-subpar camera
-4.7" screen but with thick bezels so size of the phone is actually same as the 5"ers (The curved back makes it easy to
handle one handed and thumb can reach other side of screen very easily so I think a 5" would be nice)
-removed the 3rd softkey and put a HTC logo there??? (wtf)
Xperia Z/ZL:
-bad screen, bad screen viewing angles
-horrible battery life, but that comes from the bad screen thats too power hungry probably...
Galaxy S4:
-Pentile Screen, Nuff said
I really wish there was a 1080p 5" compact (ZL/S4) RGB stripe screen flagship with good battery life (8+ hours screen on, video/browsing)
If the xperia had 8 hours instead of 5.5 hours i'd probably get that despite bad viewing angle and contrast ratio of the TFT screen...
I think I am just going to get the HTC One, what do you guys think?
I know this is the HTC One forum, but some unbiased opinions would be cool,
Im still scared if i buy one i'll get a unit with the gaps problem some people are reporting...
Judging from your negatives, I'd say the SGS4 is your best bet. Pentile won't matter at 448 PPI, you just won't be able to see the difference.

ANY 1080p phone will be very sharp, I'm not saying you won't notice a difference between them. I'm just saying the difference is going to be in the type of panel used.
Amoled = blacks, vibrant
IPS = brightness, neutral colors
TFT = washed out, poor viewing angles, light bleeding on edges of screen
If it was up to me, the Sony Z would have no business being compared to the One and the S4.

I agree and feel the same about 2013 devices. Just stick with the note2 and see what the note3 brings.

Samsung switched to RGB stripe with the S2, but they decided to go back to pentile cross hatch bs with the s3 and now s4...
They realized that overall it wont really hurt their image that much since majority of users don't even know the full specs
of their own phone...
Overall they cut a lot of cost in manufacturing and profits skyrocket...
Sigh, there needs to be more competition, which will be good for consumers.....whenever a company dominates a market, consumers lose out =(
Samsung could have made the S4 Aluminum body and RGB stripe, which will give their company the image of a premium smartphone maker, but they dont need to because their profits will be a lot higher if they keep doing what they do...
by adding a question in your title, this should be in the q&a section.
but anyways
if your looking for battery life, the s4 has a better standby time.
But both devices are great. You decide on which device you want.

Why not wait a bit for what Google and Motorola are cooking? Based on your post, I can (ALMOST) see into the future and see that you will be complaining about one thing or another no matter which of these three devices you'll get. No offense intended, okay?
Larry Page did say that Motorola would be launching a phone with an "unadultered" Android experience, and people would start to not need to charge their devices every day, worry about kids spilling liquid on phones, and drop their phones without getting worried. And rumors say that the next Motorola phones (or probably just the X Phone) would have a camera based on the technology that Canon (or was it Nikon?) uses.

I wonder how the new pentile layout looks, instead of the RGBG in the S3, now the subpixel arrangement in the S4 has the green subpixels on a diagonal axis to the red and blue subpixels....hmmm
motorola will release tiny 4.3 inch phones . Even though i saw the petition on gsmarena. I like the 4.7-5 inch sizes. 5.5 is fairly large, but that should be the limit on phones. Hopefully phones that are being released at the end of this year and next year will improve on software optimizations (also KLP) on making android super super smooth, and manufacturers working on their skins making it optimized. Even though sense is somewhat heavy, its good on battery life.
Being on stock android is boring imo.
This design on the htc one is phenomenal, hopefully next years htc will build upon this and hit every sweet spot.
Getting really bored of my Samsung Galaxy S4 and am looking towards the HTC ONE.
What do you guys reckon?
Whats the battery life and camera like?
Does the metal body chip or bend or damage easily?
I also switched mate. S4 is nice but the One is even nicer.
The quality and design feel alot more premium than the S4's design and the screen is absolutely gorgeous.
Super LCD 3 is waay better then S amoled in my opinion.
Be sure to convert it to Google edition
Just do it, you wont regret
I had the s4 it was the worst phone I ever touched. From lag to cheap plastic to unoptimized software and Samsung using half of the storage I couldn't deal with it. Switched to an HTC one and never looked back and I am on att.

Battery life is slightly less than S4. The edges will chip with rough use but the metal doesn't bend. You'll feel a performance drop [reduced framerate] when playing graphic intensive games like MC4. S4 is smoother with such games. Again, ever so slightly, but noticeable nevertheless. However, overall smoothness HTC>S4. Camera... it really depends. Check out some of the camera reviews here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167592. HTC One screen >>> S4. If you're coming from the 16GB S4, you should enjoy the 32GB of space.
And oh oh Boomsound! You should hear the speakers on this thing man. They're on a different level... just amazing!
My verdict... wait for the HTC One Max.
Didnt samsung fix the lag in there latest update? Anyways this phone feels more high end all around, hardware and software wise and also things like the tv remote seem to work better and have cleaner interface

Main thing that concerns me is the camera
I've seen samples and the S4 is much better - is this really the case for those who have switched?
Also, I can root the S4 in seconds, is it the same with the HTC?
Go to a shop and try the One M7 in your hands and see how you feel, i bought an One M7 over the G4 for the stereo speakers for when i watch a movie and it is glorious, and the screen is so good amazing detail, but i would still like an S4 if i had the money

My honest opinion on the HTC camera,,, with Sense its great in low light, but its nowhere near as good as the 8mp shooter on my missus iPhone on regular old daylight pics, id even say my old Samsung Droid Charge took better pictures..... and once i went Google edition i think its worse again, kinda grainy, why not just convert your S4 into a Google Edition, im seriously thinking about going down that route, camera has been a bit of a letdown for me on the One

there are plenty of sites comparing them both. they will give you much balanced review. and no most of them never gave you a balanced view. just 2 of them did .
The camera, in my opinion, is just fine for 99% of typical usage. If you're gonna print out copies, the One will not be as good... but if you just keep them on your phone to share, text them to other people, or upload them to social media sites, the camera is more than sufficient. The low light performance is a plus as well.
Battery life is pretty damn good in my opinion. I haven't done anything to optimize my battery life, and it lasts me a whole day of medium usage. With some tweaking, people are seeing 5 to 6 hours of screen on time. If you use your phone more than that in a day, it's likely you're in need of a new job or hobby, haha.
Hardware is simply untouchable. The screen is beautiful and converted me from a huge loyalty to Samsung amoled screens. The body of the phone is gorgeous and feels awesome in the hand. The dual front speakers are not just hype... they are truly astounding.
Software was a nice surprise for me. I've always hated Sense, and thought it made phones ugly and sluggish. Sense 5 is neither. Though I use Apex launcher, HTC really impressed me with their refinements of Sense. Like others have said, the phone flies through pretty much everything except intensive gaming.
Overall, in my book, HTC won this round of flagships. They won't sell as many, but it really is a much better phone.

If you happen to live in the US and also happen to have a T-Mobile S4, I will trade with you. Mine is 9.5/10 condition wise. Only reason I don't give it a full 10 is because I've used it. 10/10 for me would be unused.
Anyway, if you want to swap, PM me. It would have to be a T-Mobile S4, though.

They are very different phones in a lot of ways, so there is no one answer as to which is "best". It depends on what you use it for and how you use it.
I went with the One because I liked the look and feel much more. I just don't like plastic phones anymore. Playing with them side by side, I just found the One smoother and faster.
My phone is heavily optimized, but I have no trouble going 36 hours without a charge.
The camera issue is quite polarizing. It depends a great deal on what you use your phone for. If you take photos mostly for texting and social media, the One is superior because of it's better performance across all conditions. If you use it as a replacement for a point-and-shoot camera, or expect to be able to blow up/crop the shots, the 13MP camera on the S4 is a better choice.
This is a very tough phone. I haven't bothered with a case or screen protector, and it still looks out-of-the-box new. My screen does not have a single scratch. CNET threw their test unit out of a moving bus and it survived with no more than a ding on the corner.
You may be able to root the S4 faster, but the locked bootloader on some models has inhibited development. Development on the One could not be more robust--some rom threads see 200-300 posts a day.
So, as an owner of the HTC One i'l give you a honest thought.
FIRST OF ALL - I don't know how much money you have to spend and I'm not going to get into your life, but if I was in your situation I wouldn't recommend buying the HTC One if you have the S4. It doesn't even matter if the One is a bit smoother and has an aluminium body over the s4's plastic body, at the end of the day they are both top android phones with similar specifications. I moved from the old Galaxy S1 to the HTC One, Now its just amazing how different they are I cant even explain, the HTC One is probably the best phone I've seen out there, but at the end of the day? they are just similar, running the same OS and they both are used the same.
So After giving you my opinion let me tell you this:
1. First, the HTC One is definitely the smoothest android phone I've ever seen - including the Galaxy S4. and By the way the phone runs MC4 and whatever game you pick smoothly.
2. the HTC One has the best screen I've seen, comparing to the Iphone 5, the Galaxy S4 and others - its absolutely beautiful and stunning. Moving from the S1 was a shock to me.
3. The camera is pretty good, it has nice pics though I think I would pick the S4's camera - to me its not a big deal.
4. I know its all about opinions, but the HTC one is just the most beautiful phone ever, People see it and stay with their jaws down. The thing is I might be a bit paranoid, of course after paying alot for it, I cant go commando with it so I've put a protector that should protect it the best, so I cant see how nice it looks.
5. Speakers are just crazy, but seriously, who doesn't use their headphones? and If I've talked about the headphones already I must say that the headphones that come with the One sounds amazing using the phone!!!! I never thought that I could hear so good with the phone/heads.
6. Battery Life - I must say that the battery life is amazing for me!! I'm not a heavy user at all, but my Locations and 3G/wifi are on all day long I use facebook, play some games, whatsapp, Internet, waze and the battery won't end! I usually charge the phone every second day.
So after pointing all these out, the htc one is pretty amazing and its stunning, but If I were in your situation I would keep the money and stay with the S4.
Good Luck,
Thanks guys
I'll have to have a play with one to compare
