i also have the original samsung dock for note 1 with the usb injector but it does NOT fit!!... i almost broke the usb conection trying to fit it in!
Maybe you have the simple car dock which is just a holder..
i have attached a photo to see which one i have.
Do you mean the OEM one with the expanding side arms?
Does it fit in this original dock?
It fits, but you have to align it because of the size difference. You can't just plop it in like with the original Note.
If I keep my Note 2, I'll get the specific dock for it when it comes out.
Corect! DO not use note 1 dock with usb injector.. I have tried it.. it will eventually damage your new note 2 usb lead which is dodgy anyway!

Here are pictures with the Note 1-Dock and -surprise- the S3-Dock (which looks quite similar to the upcoming Note 2-Dock shown at IFA). The Note 1-Dock isn't really perfect, the Note 2 is too small for it.

You could put some duck tape (or other padding) in to make it fit. I'm thinking about applying some myself as it is a rather handy dock.
What about an orizontal dock with usb and HDMI port for connect to external display?

I used 1/16" x 1/2" foam tape, applying 2 strips to the back surface of the original dock and 2 more (cut down to 1/4" wide) down the sides. Slides in perfectly now.

I'm curious, why is it that there was a problem with the USB connector not fitting? Both are microUSB w/ MHL capabilities and in looking at the pictures, both ports are centered and facing the same direction. If anything, I could see the length of both phones being an issue, but the Note 2 is slightly slimmer (width and depth). Ultimately, I could see the top portion of the mount needing slight modification to fit, but I'm a little perplexed when it comes to the microUSB not working.
Note 1
Note 2
-EDIT- Nevermind...I think the picture of the Note 2, is actually a Note 1 (even though it's labeled a Note 2). Now, looking at some other pictures, it looks like they flipped the position of the microUSB, so it's opposite of how the Note 1 was.
This is the original one not yet released. with HDMI out and two Usb ports

Looks to be the same size and shape as the S3 dock with the fold down stand (which I used for my Note 1 and now for my Note 2)..
The 2 USB ports are nice though... I might have to get one and keep my S3 dock at work

Nice. Thanks for that pic...Okay, I'm almost tempted to order one cheap and see if the original dock can be modified to work properly. Since the Note 2 is thinner (width and depth), I don't think that will be an issue, but it's more-so about the length and the placement of the microUSB connector that I'm worried about. It also does look like the placement of the microUSB slot is further towards the back cover than the Note 1, which is more centered.
I wonder if the ATT stores will have the Car dock out in order for me to try when I get the phone next week.
What about the Samsung's Universal Vehicle Car Holder Mount?

Ok, perhaps not 'docks' yet these are viable stands. The one with the adjustable 'gooseneck' is from Wal*Mart in their car accessory section ($8). You can use a section cup only or, in my case due to wood desk, use the included 3M tape 'coaster' that then the suction cup attached to. You WILL have to remove the foam on the inside of the holding 'arms' to make the phone fit. Works great.
The other is a Samsung "Mobile Phone / MP3 Player Desktop Cradle" P/N:ET-CS01SBEGXAR (around $10). On the bottom of this cradle are places to run a cable as needed.
And yes, i know my phone needs cleaning
I can confirm that the Galaxy S dock does work with the focus. I have both phones and becides the camera and outer plastic they seem hardware identical.

So, that prevents the Focus from connecting or just doesn't allow it to sit right? If it's just a problem with how it sits, it may be able to be customized. Maybe you could take some pics?

I have looked at all the docks for the various Galaxy S devices. From what I have seen, I think the Epic 4G dock may just work for us. The Epic 4G has a hardware keyboard and I'm thinking that will locate the microusb connection in a better position to connect with our device.

toothpickj, i looked @ a couple of videos for the epic 4g dock and the micro usb connector is a lot higher up the side than w/the galaxy s.
I really hope they make a good car dock for the nexus s. My nexus one car dock was amazing!
I love having the N1 car dock, but the lack of audio output on that thing really sucks. Several times a day I get to dock my phone *and* plug in an audio cable. I could use BT stereo, but the quality is bad. (And since N1 lacks a dock connector, even if the car dock had stereo output, it would use BT.)
That said, doesn't the NS have a real dock connector on it?
I'm keeping my N1 and upgraded my wife's G1 to the NS. The availability of a car dock is the only consideration in whether I upgrade my own phone or not.

What universal car docks are you using for your NS now?
They could easily use NFC to launch the dock app, and it would be possible to make an inductive charging back like they had on the palm pre.
No dock port so I have to settle with something more generic. I use this Arkon dock currently in my car. It's the most compact looking one I can find.
I've ordered a Vlingo that will attach to the vent, just until I can get a Brodit...
I could really do with a decent univerals dock though, as I change phones every 3 months

That looks much better than the one I'm using right now. For $12 I'm going to give it a shot.
Eh, I wouldn't recommend that Arkon dock. It's a tight fit for the phone. I bought one when I had the Vibrant and I didn't like how tight of a fit it was. If I was ever in a hurry, I'd be afraid that I would break that dock. It's great for the iPhone because the size is smaller, but for the 4" phones, I would not recommend (especially when you're using a case). But that's just from my experience.
I'm currently using this universal dock. It might not fit your needs since it uses one of those "patented" sticky technologies.

Got a free $20 rewards certificate from Best Buy so I used it on that dock. It's actually a very good dock. I haven't used it with any cases though, so that might be a 50/50 thing. You can look up "bracketron" on youtube to see a clip of it. It's worth the $5 I paid for, perhaps not $24 though.

Besides the custom one for vibrant, it's the best looking universal holder I've ever had. I have the another Arkon universal holder that squeeze from the sides, which works well but a bit large and ugly IMO. This has only 4 little legs that can be seen from the front. The legs are angled in, so they hold the phone really well. Due to the position of the legs being on top/bottom, I wouldn't recommend use it side way. It holds the phone vertically perfectly well. On the topic of size, unlike the original iphone 4 version of the same dock, its body at the lower part can be extended to accommodate larger phone. As for the back of the holder, it's the same as the other universal one I own, one hinge at the suction cup and one ball joint at the holder, both adjustable. I'd still get this one if given a chance to go back in time. Everything said is my own personal opinion of course.

Awesome, thank you for the write-up. One more question, in portrait mode, is the microUSB port obscured? I want to make sure the port isn't blocked for a car charger.
It's unfortunate that you don't recommend using this in landscape mode, but I suppose at $12 that's something I could live with. College budget ftl. >_>

I thought that too... I don't know how well inductive charging like a power mat would work with the NFC antenna. I also don't know that you can use the NFC to launch an app... isn't it link driven? Maybe that's something you could do with intents, I haven't given it too much thought. I think the inductive charging is the bigger issue.

Hard to believe no one has a simple landscape charging dock that uses the pogo pins yet, haven't even seen a pre-order announcement.
It probably won't be landscape for the pogo pins seeing as they are quite low down they could fit in a vertical dock. Also seeing as the home screen is vertical I don't see how an official landscape dock would come out.

Be warned, there are reports that this dock has the microUSB port rotated the wrong way so the Nexus 7 would have to be inserted facing backwards.
Am I correct in assuming that a dock is no use except as a paperweight if I'm not willing to remove Nexi™ from his little house?
And yes I'm serious. My toothbrush can charge without actually involving sockety things.

Nothing a new launcher doesn't fix as far as landscape for the home screen, Also I would think for watching movies, listening to music, etc. having it docked and charging would be a good thing and landscape is no problem.
With the pogo pins, they should be able to put two charging points, one for vertical and one for horizontal without any plugs sticking out and in the way.

Today at work ive been playing around with one of the Kensington K33239 docks connected through USB-OTG. All ports seem to work except the audio and parallel ports. i managed to get the serial port working with the help of "Slick USB 2 Serial Terminal" as the only real reason i would need a serial port is for works router. works great, except that its only a docking station solution and does not charge the nexus 7 at the same time.

I highly doubt it since there is no micro USB integrated into it. It's just a piece of plastic so your phone doesn't know it's in it.
Just put an NFC tag on the dock. When you insert it, it will do whatever you programmed it to do.
That dock looks like any ordinary eBay generic piece of plastic, BTW. Nothing special about it, IMO. I have a generic squeeze handle one and it works great with any case. The one in the OP looks to only work naked. Not worth the hassle, IMO.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering since some phone and dock doesn't need to be connected to switch, which confused me on how does the docking work. Anyway I have some NFC tags but so far the is no good app to automatically enable the driving mode without starting S Voice. I tried tasker and I can configure it to switch to the car mode (the icon appeats) but it doesn't enable driving mode (the one which enable the phone to read out events).

It charges your phone and a spare battery in portrait it also has a second micro usb socket for data sync. But atleast it also holds the phone in landscape mode when needed. I have this dock and 2 of the batteries and its not bad.

I had the landscape one for my S3, cheap as well, broke apart and it was so cheap that u could twist it to make it fit with a case
You could infact but this one and remote the stand which has the USB input and slide back into ur liking till it lines up with the note 2 bottom

like you said - it holds the phone in portrait mode and it's not what we're looking for...there is a million docks just like this one out there, including official accessory from Samsung, posted on samsungusa website. This doesn't really help....
The links I posted in the OP are for the type of dock we're searching for.
This dock for original Note 1 can be used in both, portrait and landscape mode. This Indian eBay seller insists it fits both Note 1 & 2....Thoughts?

I have one, and when you plug it in the Note 2 recognizes that it's plugged into a dock, but it's loose. This phone is skinnier than the original note, so you have to be careful inserting it and i don't think it would lie on its side well. Maybe it would fit if you had a relatively thin case on your phone.
bump....has anyone seen any new aftermarket landscape charging docks out there yet?

I'm looking for a dock just like this for AT&T GNote 2: http://www.amazon.com/Charger-Cradle-Samsung-Galaxy-i9300/dp/B008FK65JW/ or like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Multimedia-Nexus-Mobile-Phones/dp/B0050Q4SKM/
Any suggestions?

I want one also. Don't like the portrait kind.
I've had landscape docks before for other phones but this is harder to find.
I don't think there are any yet for the Note II. I just looked overseas.
I can have one made but I'd have to explore how expensive it is.

I've been eyeing this one for my PC replacement setup: http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-Sona...54979999&sr=8-2&keywords=tablet+charging+dock

argh...that's like a home entertainment system with surround sound. we just want a compact, portable dock, which can be plugged in via USB or AC, nothing else

I run DBA Cases.
I have people looking into it. If I can get them and carry them I will since I want one also
Here is a UK seller, which claims this dock is compatible with Note 2: http://www.amazon.co.uk/KitSound-Galaxy-Charging-Compatible-Samsung/dp/B008GJT6ZM
It also has a recent review from a guy, who mentions using it with Note 2. Any takers?
Landscape Dock
Right now all there are is portrait docks.
I can get a Landscape dock made but it's very expensive to make. I don't know what the demand will be.
Would people rather have a landscape dock?
