Galaxy ACE - not able to wipe data/factory reset - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I rooted my galaxy ace and everything was fine running with custom firmware.
Recently my phone started to show trouble , so i tried installing new cyanogen ROM but im not able to do so since it is stuck with data wipe screen.
Im running recovery 5.0.2.6. , In the recovery im able to format system but when i select either format data or cache , the device hangs and i have to pull out the battery to restart.
Tried all possible ways to troubleshoot this issue , i have also flashed new firmware but no luck.
Im afraid that my device might have been bricked or could have a fault in the phone memory chip.
Please help .

it probably recovery fault, because it out of date and cynaogen mod is ext formatted, while stock is usally rfs try flashing 5.0.2.7 recovery

hmmm , im not able to find recovery 5.0.2.7 , can you please send me the link

When you say " flashed new firmware" do you mean with Odin? If you haven't done that yet, you should

Help! Meday!! Phone Reboots into cwm

Hi All,
I am in desperate need of help.
I have a nexus s. rooted, with cyanogenmod kernel and slimbean rom.
My friend has a galaxy s1 that had unrooted froyo.
A friend of his rooted it, and put gingerbread on it. I wanted to put slimbean on it for him.
I did so.
Except, that his mobile network wouldnt connect.
I googled, and found that this could be because the kernel is not compatible with the rom.
So I downloaded cyanogenmod kernel and flashed.
But this didnt work, because I think the download was corrupted or something.
I tried to re boot into clockwork, but it just got stock on the first loading screen.
Since then I have tried everything and have been googling for hours... I dont know what to do. I have tried so many different things.
Please can some guru help me figure out what to do?
My friend is pissed as hell at me, I told him it will be painless quick and easy. Thats how it was for me and i assumed same for him.
PLEASE!! I need HELP!! :'(
Edit: I reflashed semaphore and it now goes into cwm. But now when I flash the rom and reboot it, it just reboots automatically into cwm again. Anyone know where to go from here?
Thanks in advance,
Zeddicus

It appears to be a bootloop. That means flashing messed with boot partition and you have to reflash boot. Is this phone i9000 or i9001?
Search for similar topics like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590747
If you can get to CWM or download mode nothing bad happend - you can repair everything, however it would be wise if you had backup of previous, working ROM
Calm down its fixable first you try to fix it without Odin by
- flashing slim bean again don't forget full wipe flash i9000.zip twice the first time it will reboot half way through at least it did for me
-then pull out the battery and boot into cwm
- flash both slim bean files
- this should get the phone starting again after that to get network working flash this file in cwm http://www.mediafire.com/?fbgxblhbip7bkuv it should get network running credit goes to pwneman for that
Let me know how it goes

Try to format your sdcard in fat32 filesystem (through Windows/CWM or any other various ways if this won't work)
Also try other sdcard...
If formatting card doesn't fix the problem try to reflash CWM via Odin in Download mode.
ok i did a hard reset and left batt out for a good few min and got the sdcard back again.
i followed the steps u said latrop and it didnt fix it... still booted back into cwm...
since i now have the sdcard back i am making a backup zip file of it just in case lol
@divibyzero
i followed that post but it didnt fix the problem
OK you will have to flash with Odin I'll get back to you with instructions

Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961959/ then once that's done phone should start up if it does follow my previous instructions

Wait, before you odin flash:
Let me get this straight, your rom .zip is on your external sd card? it has to be in your internal sd card.
From the recovery main menu, go to mounts & storage. From there, plug in your phone to your computer and select "Mount internal USB storage."
You'll be able to then copy the rom file into your internal sd card. While you're at it, I'd recommend X-Bean, as it's currently faster and more stable than SlimBean. Then, unmount your phone and return to the recovery menu and select install zip and choose the file you've just copied.
Please let me know how it goes.
@kngroo
thats what i did.. ive flashed tons of roms and kernels before on my nexus s...
its this galaxy s 1 that isnt working for some reason... it was meant to be a quick and painless proceedure which has turned into a nightmare
gonna probably have to format the sdcard now :*(
Hi All,
I wanna give a SERIOUS thank you to latrop.
This guy is a freaking legend. He just sat with me for almost 2 hours helping me sort out the phone. We did almost everything you can think of and then some... But ultimately it was latrops great experience and knowledge that helped save my ass here...
Phone is running full on slimbean rom with great reception etc.
Latrop... you are a legend!!!
Just wipe/factory reset and wipe cache
its work for me and maybe it would work with you too

Have you format system and mount system after do all wiping? Because many people forgot this step and got same problem as you. Read the installation guide carefully next time.

It may happen if you are coming from a custom ROM into another custom ROM
It happened to me when I changed from Mindcr ROM to BouDzDroid ROM but I managed to solve it via odin as I already have my stock ROM and the phone opened in download mode

I think it is better to go to stock rom before flashing any custom rom in order to avoid dependencies, of course I'm a beginner in this

[Q] Can't mount!

Please read the whole thread!
I know there have been some posts on this already, but I feel like there isn't a solution, and I just want a straight answer as to what I need to do, because I have no idea!
Hiya guys, sorry about this but I'm seriously new to xda and flashing roms etc.
Back a while ago I decided to root using superuser, I then tried to flash a cm7, and to this day I still don't know what is compatible with what..
Unfortunately for the next few days I don't have access to a pc cable, because one never came with my S5830.
Another quick question, what other recovery mods/roms can I get to use, because I have read some posts that say there are bugs with CWM, and haven't been able to find any others (because I just don't know what to search for apart from recovery roms, and that just gives me OS roms)
I then flashed CWM6.xxxxx to my phone and it seems to be working, I have 2 or 3 SD cards, and every one of them I put in it says:
"E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/ (Can't read, goes off screen)
"E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/ (Can't read, goes off screen)
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/ (Can't read, goes off screen)
"E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/ (Can't read, goes off screen)
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/ (Can't read, goes off screen)
When I go to "mounts and storage" on CWM v6, and try to mount any of the /cache,/data,/sdcard,/system,/sd-ext, they all give me the same thing:
"Error mounting /xxxxxx!"
Do I have corrupted SD cards?
I've tried flashing CM9, and it seemed to have worked, got caught in a bootloop, which I then redownloaded and reflashed, then it booted up but:
At startup, I was told the encryption was unsuccessful, and the "Reset Phone" button to fix this, doesn't work at all.
I keep think this is a problem with my SD cards.
I've tried partitioning my SD card to fix this problem, using FAT32 and Ext2 roughly half and half. (I don't know what either of these are but I just tried it anyways)
Do I have to have a specific version of CWM and CM in order to make my Ace work again?
I will be able to get a cable in the next few days, then I will use Odin to try and fix it, but here is the important part:
I don't actually remember what specific version of gingerbread my stock rom was, because I just jumped into flashing, didn't think about anything, yes I know. Stupid move.
I've tried flashing a few different CM version, all of them I wiped data/factory reset AND wiped cache partition AND wiped dalvik.
By the way, when I wipe the dalvik it literally just blips and does nothing, don't know whether that means something?
I have a 4GB SD card and a 2GB sd card, my 4GB is partitioned 3:1. They are both a standard version, I've looked around and have been told to get a "version 6" SD card. No idea why, probably something to do with transfer rate?
I have literally spent about 12 hours searching and flashing/reflashing/wiping, not finding anything really useful as to why this is happening..
I was thinking I need to flash to stock (whichever stock it is!!!:'(, and then start from square one). Another question is, does it matter which version of gingerbread I flash stock to? That's if it decides to actually work.
I really need help guys, could someone please tell me which version of CWM and CM to use, and how to flash through SD card for the moment, as I haven't got a cable yet.
I have looked at threads telling me I should wipe everything FIRST, and I have also seen ones that tell me to wipe AFTER I've installed the ROM. What's the difference?:/
All in all, I'm not very clued up when it comes to this, and I don't know whether this is soft bricked or hard bricked, but I can still access the recovery mode, ramdump mode (whatever that is) and download mode.
If anyone could help me it'd be a godsend.

Thanks for getting back to me!
Thank you so much! I'll give everything you said a try. It's actually quite sad how the Galaxy Ace has such pathetic RAM.

What Do you mean by "keeps restarting" Bro, Is it stuck on the bootanimation?
If your phone doesn't get pass boot animation and reboots, then there's only one way to fix it. Your personal files and data would be gone but I'm sure it's backed up with your google account. Watch this and follow the instructions. Installing a stock firmware using ODIN. Hope it helped

Are you currently using a stock rom or a custom rom? Anyway you can solve this problem by just flashing back the stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check the "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
If your PC cannot recognize the phone, its usually the drivers. Once installed, go to recovery mode (hold power+ Home button) and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace. Just flash them from the recovery mode (choose "install zip from sdcard" and then select the zip file from sdcard).

The Apocalypse you are referring to is the custom rom that is installed in your phone. When you bought you phone, you had Samsung's version of Froyo/ Gingerbread installed in your phone. That rom is called stock rom. Custom roms are build by developers using cyanogen mod sources. Now you keep having restarts and since clearing data and cache from CWM didn't solve it, I suggest you install another rom. Now this is where you have to make a choice. You can either install a stock rom (stable, nice battery backup, etc) or a custom rom (fast, performance oriented, customizable, etc). Before you do install another rom, backup all app data using Titanium Backup. If you choose Stock rom, then follow my previous post on how to install stock rom on your phone. Now if you choose custom rom, then first we need to update CWM 4 to CWM 5.
CWM 5.0.2.6 fix for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830
Download the CWM 5 zip file to SD Card and reboot your phone to recovery mode (Power off then hold Home+ Power button). Now choose "Install zip from SD Card" and choose the zip file. Done! You have successfully installed CWM 5. Now time for you to install a new custom rom. Refer the following guide for all the custom roms for our device,
Know your Device:Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 ~Root~Odin~CWM~ROM LIST
For time being use any Gingerbread roms. Download it to SD Card and then reboot to recovery mode. Now choose Wipe data/ factory reset, Wipe cache partitions, Advanced> Wipe dalvik cache, Wipe battery stats, Mounts & Storage> Format /system. Now select "Install zip from SD Card" and choose your rom zip file. Reboot and you can use your new rom. Whenever you want to install any new custom rom, just follow the same procedure. Now as for the low internal memory problem, we might have a solution. But the catch is it requires a rom with init.d support (something all custom roms have and stock roms doesn't ) and an ext partition on SD Card. First backup all the SD Card data. Now go to CWM> Advanced> Partition SD Card> Size (Max 1GB, anymore and system will lag)> Swap (0MB) and wait for it to say "Partitioning done". Now download and place CronMod script (try INT2EXT+ as it is the most stable of all) to SD Card. Now again go to CWM> Mounts & Storage> Mount /system then flash the Cronmod zip from CWM. Reboot and you are good to go. Now go to Settings>Storage to see the newly increased internal memory. Here is the link,
CronMod-INT2EXT

First of all, read the forum rules in order to post your questions correctly...
There's a great Q&A Thread please use it to ask for help, this the General Thread, we must all contribute to maintaining our forum in order.
Next time, post it in the correct section, thank you for understanding it
Follow @mahithm instructions to flash a fresh STOCK rom and the next tine DON'T USE CWM 4x, it's outdated, there are several recovery systems based on CWM 5x, they're the most stable for a daily usage and they're required to flash most of the custom roms

i9305 Bootloop & Strange Issue - Help Required

Edit: My problem has been solved, I tried to flash recovery again through odin but still issue was there.. then I download stock firmware from sammobile and then flashed the same through odin... and wolaaa... phone rebooted and issue is fixed now.. thanks @Pheoxy for your guidence...
Hi All,
I am having serious problem with my S3 i9305. I was using Amcha ROM version 2.20 yesterday my battery was dead and phone went powered off while I was sleeping, when I woke up I tried charging it but it turns on and stucked on bool logo I accessed recovery mode and tried to wipe cache and dalvik cache, but the issue is when I select wipe dalvik cache and then phone restarted it self and than stuck again on bootloop.. further when I tried to do factory reset through recovery than phone again restarted and then stuck again on boot logo..
I also tried flashing Amcha 3.0 version by putting it on external SD card and through recovery when I selected flash zip than AROMA started and then suddenly while installing ROM phone again restarted and then as usual stucked on bootloop.
please suggest me the way forward, phone is just working fine.. and then......this issue.. Please help as I am in serious issue...
Partitions might be buggered some how. Use Odin to flash recovery again to make sure and then flash stock ROM before android 4.3.
Do a wipe like you would switching Roms and restore backup if you can or flash whatever.
