[Q] For root enabled owners - LG Optimus Black

HI Friends, i have a doubt in my mind.
Suppose i have already rooted my device and clockwork mode recovery is there.
Since i tried a lot of ROMs , my SD card is full of unnecessary files.
I want to format my SD card within phone setting.
After Formatting the SD card my clockwork mode recovery still be there and my device will be still in rooted.(This is what i want)
Please let me know.

Yes if you wipe your SD you will still be rooted with custom recovery. Same as if you take out your SD card, you are still rooted
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda app-developers app

Sure as said these things are in your ROM not on the SD card. Ever tryed to connect your phone to PC or maybe better take your SD card out and connect it to the PC directly to backup things first before reformating? I always store my nandroid backups and more there and than delete the oldest ones.

Yes, you will be rooted but ROM backups will be removed, if there is any.

Thanks to you guys for your quick response. Really this forum rocks...
Currently , i am using zeus 6.39, Now i am going to format and flash zeus 7.1 ROM.

I just updated to Zeus 6.4 on friday and will probably try 7.01 in a few days.

Zeus 7.01 is very nice and fluid but only thing I don't like is the dark color in messaging.

[Q] sd card wont mount

Hello all,
Trying to restore my sd card to working order and im kinda stumped.Ive googled the problem and cant seem to get anything to work.
This happened after flashing cm6 blue rom and this was the first rom ive ever flashed. I used the universal androot method to root and rom manager to flash the rom. The rom works beautifully and I was able to go into recovery and flash ggaps even though phone isnt mounting to sd card. When I go to sd card in settings and click mount it say preparing sd card and then reverts back to safe to remove sd card. Any help would be great! thanks
Take the card out and Wen ur phone is on pull the battey out wait a few min reboot the phone back up with out then repeat this again this time wen the battery is out put the SD card back in reboot in recovery the home and power button way then wipe file ext and reboot might work might not worth a try

Do you have a SD card reader in your PC? Have you tried taking the SD card out of your phone, putting it into your PC, and formatting it? Copy everything that's on it to your desktop first, then format it, then recopy the files back to the card after the format. Then try putting it back in your phone. That may solve your problem.
Also , if you're recovery is reading it to flash gapps, then it may be the rom install. If all else fails, try a compete wipe and reflash

Thank you for the replies, I'm gonna head out to best buy and pic up a card reader and then ill try your sugestions. Hope this works!ill keep you posted.
Thanks again!
Its All fixed! The formating took care of it. Thank you guys for the help

[Q] Safe procedure to format internal SD

Hey guys.. I have flashed a few roms to my Raider now, but my internal SD is a mess - lots of old left-over install folders, leftover app bits..etc. When I'm in CWM Recovery, I found an option to format the internal SD card. My question is this: What will that wipe? Everything?? Does it wipe out my CWM and the installed ROM as well?? I'm scared to try it, bc I don't want to brick my phone. I'm not real familiar with pushing files to the SD card thru ADB (actually I just know its possible, no idea what the commands are) so I don't want to have to go that route, but I'd REALLY like to wipe my internal storage and clean it up.
Ideas?
I recommend going into your settings when your booted into android. So long as you have no apps installed to the I.internal sd card you are safe to format.

i would not use the CWM option to do that, it is a port and not fully supported and i know on some other devices (not sure about vivid) but that would soft brick the device
I always use the windows format and change the allocation size while I'm at it. Just backup what you need and copy it over when you are done. Since there are a lot of leftover bits I'd recommend not doing a quick format. The method in which you format probably doesn't matter but I like working from the computer when it comes to this stuff.

And formatting the *internal* storage from USB storage mode in Windows won't clear out my HoliRaider ROM? I just don't wanna brick my phone its running awesome now thanks to bananacakes.

No, the rom is installed on its own partition. I've formatted with no issues after I rooted and debloated my phone

How to eliminate everything? Restart

Hi guys,
Sorry for the question. I have my moms note. I am good at flashing but I cant seem what went wrong here. I was on official ICS.
I upgraded to leaked Jellybean, all worked wonders, I was on LS7 with Philz kernel. But then I lost root, I read there was a fix for that but then I discovered the problem I need hel with.
I CANT COPY ANYTHING TO INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL STORAGE!!! I tried everything. Wipes, reflash, fix permissions, etc., even format the sd card. But I can´t copy anything....I have checked if they are mounted and no problem. Camera can write to sd. Cant even open Gallery because it says INSUFFICIENT MEMORY. But the phone and card are empty!!!
This had never happened to me....Can anyone help me?
Owww....I so sad...
Just tried with another sd card andd couldnt flash philz new kerenl....signature error....
Im on JB installed via Odin.
Tried installi rocket rom form stock recovery..... starts, android appears and reappears and then it boots back in recovery....
I had the same problem (not enough storage) with Rocketrom and Philz Kernel. I switched to Hydracore V7 and Utackas Paranoidandroid with a full wipe and had no problem ever since. Don't know what caused the problem.

when you flashed the rom again, did you do proper wipes? If not very much concerned about data and apps, the try
make sure you have the rom in your sd card
boot into cwm philz recovery
mounts and storage
format /system
format /data
format /cache
format/preload
then go ahead and install the rom again. restes
Use es file explorer, go to sd card, tap menu then settings then file settings and select show hidden in files, you should now see a folder called. Trash100 it will be full of all your deleted items, although your sd is empty the files are still there just hidden
Delete that folder and reboot. Same applies to external sd too.

Welll apps weren`t a problem since my moms uses almost none LOL.
I went all the way back to 2.3.6, upgraded to 4.0.4 via KIES, rooted with stock recovery, nandroid backup here. Up to here everything working. Went to flash JB and could only flash TWM build. All still worked. I wanted to flash rocket rom but i still get same error of "Installation aborted".
Actual setup is working, without Snote (cant flash fix) and without airview (ditto).
Still missing to try to flash via Mobile Odin.
you couldn't flash rocket rom over ics?
may be the downloaded rom was corrupt. download again

xxls2 is available in TAR format... on sammobile.com.. you can flash it using mobile odin or PC odin.. the others .. you cannot use mobile odin

[Q] Installing directly on external sd

I think the internal SD card of my i9000 is corrupted. I've tried everyting: wiped/factory reset, reinstalling Cyanogenmod10, installing Stock ROM, installing stockrom with re-partitioning on etc. Nothing works. I'm using odin to reinstall the stock ROM. Flashing the stock ROM to my phone goes well, but then when I restart and android is installing, I get error messages like:
/can't mount sd card
After reading a lot on XDA, my conclusion is: broken internal storage.
Now I want to install everything on my external SD. So I bought a 8GB cat10 SD card.
Found this XDA-post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1893354 Seems very promising, but I seem to get stuck on '-- Extract initramfs from zImage ( https://github.com/mistadman/Extract-Kernel-Initramfs )'. I;ve got a virtual machine running Ubuntu. When I start the script, nothing happens..... the terminal just closes.
The easiest solution for my problem would be a ROM that is altered to directly install on my external SD. I red somewhere that ROMS like that exist. Can't seem to find one though.
Well.. thanks for reading my post, and accept my appologies for my bad english. You can probably notice I'm not a native speaker.
Does someone have a solution for me? Maybe know of a good thread?
Thanks in advance!

also formatted my internal sd through adb...doesnt help either
You need to search for a data/data file that you can flash in Odin that will fix your internal SD card. I had same problem. My Android soultions helped me. Try searching for that also

Install stock rom JVU in ODIN, then flash this kernel
How do I have to flash? With repartitioning checked or unchecked?
Do I have tot restart and let android try to install after flashing? Or must I flash your kernel directly after flashing the rom...

I will like to install a new version for 4.0 or 4.1 but dont know how to change this kernel to work wit another 2.3.6 like jw4 or jw9

not able to restore backup using kies

Hello guys. I have a Ace S5830 in CWM 5.0.2.6 and just flashed Maclaw's CM 9 RC3. Now i'm trying to restore my backup to the SD card. I connected the USB and opened kies but it's not recognising my device. Then i went to the removable disk and it says please insert a disk into F:/
So how can i restore my backup to the SD card?? thank you
Go into recovery, click mounts and storage, and then plug into computer. Then, mount usb mass storage and device should be recognised. also, make sure you have the correct drivers for your Samsung.

But is there no other way to do it? I mean i've used kies for backup and restore until i used this ROM. So because of this ROM kies isn't recognising my device?
Ac. to my knowledge ur phone is rooted n the warranty is expired so Kies wont recognize ur cell.
hit thanks if helped
Chuck that Kies !
Dude ! Kies has always sucked !
Why don't you just forget that !
and the reason for kies not detecting you device might be because your device is rooted.I'm not sure about that !
But you can go to CWM recovery ....then mounts and storage and select "MOUNT SD CARD"
Then select "MOUNT USB STORAGE" and connect it to ur pc and transfer what ever you want.
That's the Quickest way ! :good:
Also, next time, try to back up with the app called titanium backup as it is universal for all phones and highly recommend.

Hey i did all that and i found that i already had the files on my SD card. I'm able to access music and photos but not apps! And my contacts are gone. very confused
I did what u guys said and i copied the files in my backup to the F:/ and it started copying and while it was copying fruit ninja.asec from .android secure and then it hangs. Then when to access F:/ it says there is an I/O device error. So i tried again and same thing...Any suggestions?
kise sucks, the only purpose of kies is for our phones to be detected, we needed the divers of kies..haha never to use it as to back up..CWM is the best when backing up sytem and image
If your contacts were saved onto your Google account, they should sync automatically when you sign in. If not, you have to have backed up the contacts by exporting them to either the sim or sdcard. If you did not do that, then you cannot get them back. Also, im not sure about the app sync problem, but if you go to play store and sign in with the same account as before, you can go to my apps and redownload them from there. Hope i helped

But before flashing the ROM( that i currently have) i backed up all the data to the PC! I checked on my SD card and found that all the data was there but the apps weren't there on the phone! So then i recopied the backup (on my PC) to the SD card but then i had tat problem i mentioned above.
Well i had 2.3.6. stock before i rooted and got maclaw's ICS ROM and i partitioned 256M of my SD card using CWM. Does that affect anything?
Thx a lot! Sorry i'm very new to all this

I guess you din't get it right ! Read the below carefully now and hit the THANKS button if you understood and if it was helpful
See since you din't sync your contacts to Google Account or moved it to the SIM card it's gone forever ! Nothing can be done !
It was useless backing up with kies ...so next time just don't open that idiotic software !
You should have backed up using CWM Recovery ! But never mind ..you are new to this
You are able to access you photos, songs and other stuff because they are stored on your SD card and by rooting or flashing a ROM ..nothing happens to your SD card !
After flashing a ROM ..your apps wont remain there ...because you factory reset your phone before flashing a ROM !
But still your app data will remain in SD card ...meaning ...Suppose before flashing a ROM u used to play a game on ur STOCK firmware and u had completed 5 levels of that game and that gets saved on your SD card ..now if you install that same Game on ICS AOSP ROM now ..you will find those 5 levels completed
So you need to download your apps again from Google play ! and partitions dont cause any problem
Wohaa !! That was the Longest ..I Have typed on XDA ;p
No it shouldn't affect anything, but just to clarify, what version of clockwork do you have? Also, were you able to reinstall the app from play store?

See to restore your backed up data ..you don't have to move those backed up files to ur SD card that won't do the job.
Since you have backed up using kies you will have to restore through that software only !
