I know it is common problem in vibrant and captivate... but in my vibrant when I was in stock it never gave me GPS problems but captivate is killing me whenever I start GPS it shows 5-7 satellites but never locks ....I have used faster fix but it din help ...can anyone say changing settings in lbs test can help? if so can u say what setting should I use .....btw I'm on rooted stock 2.3.5....thanks for helping

For the GPS... Turn GPS on, go into Angry GPS (*#*#3214789650#*#*). Under Settings/ Supl Settings/ Change the Server to supl.google.com and change the Server Port to 7276 . Select Done. Then hit back twice and select Delete GPS Data. Then hit back twice and u should be home. Install the free GPS Test app from the Market and check it. U should be a whole lot better now.

I did this still no change shows 6 satellites but never locks ......

I used to have same issue one of reasons I moved up to JB custom. GPS worst case in the house about 90 seconds after reboot. After first lock normally less than 30 sec.

it is giving me some results when I use Samsung GPS restore app .........it just connects and again within seconds looses connection and it keeps on repeating again and again

It's a hardware problem
The early Galaxy S variants just have weak GPS hardware. They may have fixed it mid-stream on some of the later-built ones, but my early Captivate (from August 2010) has just never worked very well, no matter which ROM, no matter which workaround/"fix". It will eventually lock, but usually take 10+ minutes, and even once it has, it loses lock frequently, and even when it claims to have lock, the location is inaccurate.
I bought one of these and it works well with this app.
I admit it's a bit inconvenient, but the thing is very small-- I even run/bike with it, just tucked into the strap of the armband I keep my phone in. And it's fine for navigation in the car. If you have a later-built device maybe some of the workarounds will help you, but replacing the hardware is the only solution that's worked for me.

okay, afaik, based on my experience with cappy gps, you don't need hardware mods. its just got a gps antenna location that is not so good and bad factory config files.
I'm not aware of samsung reving the gps hardware on cappy, but they did make changes to software but left lousy config files.
if you need gps comparable to standalone gps units, then follow the advice re separate bluetooth unit, else read on before spending bucks.
just correcting the config files has worked great for me.
I think you should:
1. uninstall faster fix, it caused me to lose good gps locks and others have posted same experience.
then:
make sure you've got angrygps app on your cappy. if not, search xda, several folks posted the apk.
look for an xda thread on 'hellstorm gps' and install that fix. for more info, see canovas thread on gps fix.
also:
open angrygps or edit secgps.conf to make sure mode is msbased.
also set agps mode on (=1 if you are manually editing file). the location of secgps.conf varies with rom you are using. mine is in data/data/gps folder.
I like gps status app for testing.
Mine locks usually about 10 sec. Sometimes 20-30 sec if I am moving and gps wasn't started before I started driving.
once or twice a month, google maps or nav goes wahwah and can't seem to get a lock. A quick disable/enable gps toggle in settings and it gets a stable lock again in a few seconds.
liberate your captivate on xda

" Searching for GPS... " forever, on Google Maps Navigation...

I have tried many solutions posted to similar issues in this forum and none are working...
I reflashed the radio
I updated the radio
I also changed roms
I updated google maps...
I installed google voice
I turned the GPS on and off
wiped data and cache
also restarted the phone...
tried indoors and outdoors...
Google maps gets my location fine, but just when I click on navigate it loads and on the bottom of the screen it says "searching for GPS..." and never finds it, the GPS satellite icon shows activity...GPS Test says GPS on...I do not see any other activity at all on the screen though....
this is weird...any ideas? anyone else getting this "error"?
Do you have a data plan or other network connection while trying to get a GPS fix? If you don't, then it can take a REALLY LONG time to get a fix since it won't be able to download the almanac (assisted gps).
Also, some LOCATIONS tend to be very bad for getting a GPS signal. Near tall buildings, for example. Even if you have good exposure to a lot of the sky, the signals can actually REFLECT OFF TALL BUILDINGS and screw up your timings.

Yes I do have a data plan. No I am not near ANY tall buildings - I am in a residential area. I used to get GPS fine here when I had my Nexus One and my HD2 ... but this phone is giving me a hard time....I wish I could get it fixed -I was planning on taking a trip tomorrow and it would be nice to have it working, anyways it should work, I dont see a reason why it should not work...
any other ideas?....
anyone else having this problem? .... please advise me....
If google doesn't know the coordinates of the cell tower you are connected to, it may be sending you incorrect almanac data, which will actually make it HARDER to connect (since the GPS will be making incorrect assumptions about the visible satellites).
Try disabling your data services and reboot the phone.
I had the same problem for like 3 weeks, prior to it, my screen was cracked and i had it replaced at a shop. I finally took the phone apart, and the little cable was not connected. If the phone's been opened since last the GPS worked, check that. If not, No idea bro.

no this phone was never opened, but thanks!...
I have tried all of the suggestions I could find and still have no good results...
any other ideas?
I just checked my logCat and I noticed 4 errors all in a row with the tag "MobileNavigation"... the message says "Network Error! 3 : true". Any insight on that?
Thanks in advance...
so no one knows how to fix this
Did you try to turn off the A-GPS? It looks like your G1 try to connect to A-GPS but it can't connect.
did U find how to fix that cause I have kinda the same problem

My google nav app can t find gps but on the gps status i can fix on1-20 sats. the lock occures almost instantly, sometimes even whithout sats. When indoors (deep indoors) I get lock on 1-3 sats, near a window, at least 8-10 sats.
I d like to know if this is fixable, since I couldn t find another thread that treats this specific problem. I have LG E730 Optimus Sol Gingerbread.
I have the same issue with my HTC Amaze. Looks like there is a huge known problem with Google Maps. This is my second Amaze and both had the same problem. I have tried EVERYTHING. Looks like there is a known issue with Google Maps not using A-GPS correctly. I cannot turn off my A-GPS, so I'm pretty screwed, just waiting on ICS to come out.
I too have been having this issue for some time. This finally fixed the problem:

For my Glacier's Sense ROM, I installed DARKSIDE SENSE v4.0... of course I quickly reverted back to my preferred ROM immediately after completing the documented steps in the instructions. GPS works great... no more "Searching for GPS..." message.

I can't get to that link, can you PM it to me?
I finally found a semi-fix. In the A-GPS app, if you disable "filter GSP Speed" and disable filter strength, it has seemed to clear up the problem 90% of the time. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes to aquire, but sometimes it only take a few seconds and one it get's a lock, it seems to always keep locked on, which is 1000% better than what I was getting prior to this fix.

[q] Using older phone as bluetooth gps receiver

I was reading about someone using a phone such as wm fuze as a bluetooth gps receiver. After doing some search I found some apps for both fuze and captivate. Gps2blue for fuze and bluetooth gps provider for android. The fuze app is supposed to send gps info from the fuze to the captivate which uses its program to receive. However I can't seem to get them to link via bluetooth. Has anyone tried this or got it to work? My gps isn't completely broken but here soon, I am found to need reliable gps.so this would work great.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
wow...i actually have a brand new Fuze sitting around under my bed not being used. This would be pretty sweet. Look forward to see what comes out of this.
I also have an iphone 3g with broken wifi....if the wifi worked, i was just going to keep that in my truck and use Mobile AP and connect the 3g to wifi and use google maps on the 3g. Could you not do the same for the Fuze??
probably, but with only a 200 mb plan, I'm trying to use copilot on my phone and limit data usage. Of course with captivate alone. Gps is hit or miss. Mainly miss
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ok, so I found a way using gpsgate on a wm phone. Works on both my fuze and my tilt. Must say I really love how accurate my tracks are now using a phone from more than 2 years ago. Kinda sux having to resort to 2 phones for accurate tracks, but I love google maps saying my accuracy is 1~4 meters accurate. Even works flawlessly with copilot.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
how about some setup instructions for someone who has not used windows mobile for more than 5 minutes?? haha i have had the fuze forever, but never used it. tips like installing the app, setting it up, etc etc
or since i have an unlimited data plan, what about just using the fuze as a gps anyway? How would that work?
I used my fuze all the time, but I only used garmin on it. Im going to try and find some information on setting up and I'll edit here. I found a similar post and after googling how to do it, I remem hearing the program used to do out was posted in that. Gpsgate is like a 2week trail, but I think its 15 bucks. So hopefully froyo will fix come and I'll know if I'm buying full version.
How to:
Fuze setup:
on the fuze internet explorer, go to www.franson.com where u can download the cab (same as apk for android, but for wm). Install the file. During the first run you should go through a setup wizard. On the first screen it has some search options, I only clicked wired and built in gps. It should find on com 4, whatever it finds i don't think out matters, as long as it finds it. Next is the share setup. I used option 2 and 3, share with nmea and share over bluetooth, I know bluetooth is needed, not sure about the other. Next hit finish. Of course make sure bluetooth is on and set to discoverable. Also so that phone doesn't shut off while navigating, go to power settings and make sure the phone doesn't turn because I'm petty sure if it does it will stop sending gps information (do by going to power settings) That's it for fuze.
For android:
I think under developer settings, allow mock positions need to be enabled. Download bluetooth gps provider off market. On it go to preferences and search for gps provider. Find it device, select it and then back to main screen and hit start, if it fist gps has locked it should work. Should show how many data locked and what not here.
Apps like gps test won't show locked stats but will put accuracy up. Way its done, not sure of how accurate that value is. Seems pretty well.

[Q] new to the forum new to droid, new captivate

Hi everybody, new to the forums and new to droid - I recently upgraded from the Propel to the Captivate and so far I am loving it. With all the reviews and forums I read before deciding to buy most of my answers have been answered, but not all.
My phone was loaded with 2.2 and when I registered it with Samsung it showed a build date of feb/11 so I'm hoping that my phone has alot of the big fixes already loaded. I have noticed that the gps code listed on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732030
Does not work on my phone, I enter *#*#1472365#*# and the last * just clears the code out of my dialer... no sub-menu, no options, nothing. Any ideas how to do gps testing?
Other question, I spend alot of time off the cell network and I need a gps that works - which app would be good to use? Searching the app store there is quite a few ranging in price, most seem to have mixed reviews. Google does nothing for me since it needs the network to pull up the maps. Basically when I load up the gps it shows me in a sea of nothingness and trying to scroll the map gives me an error 'need network connection' type of message.
Also, I've noticed what looks like 2 small led's one the face of my phone, just to the left of the speaker and the ugly logo. Are these notification leds or something else?
I don't plan on rooting or flashing my phone for a while... yes yes I know, stock sucks, but like I said I was using the Samsung Propel a couple days ago and now the Captivate - I've got alot to learn and alot to get used to before I switch things around. Yes, one day I do want to switch off of stock software just not right now, thanks for the suggestion though. lol

Baseband I897UCKB1
Kernel 2.6.32.9

thanks in advance for the help and advice, now it's time to finish reading through the app thread and hit up the store...

As for needing a GPS on without using Data there are a few but to be honest if you need it for reliable GPS, then you got the wrong device. The captivate is known for having terrible GPS and it is unrelible at best. Good enough to help you learn a new town but not good enough to get you where you need to go on time everytime. The led are the light sensors. No led Notifications with the captivte at all unless you rom a custom rom and get BLN from the app store that will light up your 4 bottom keys when you have a message.
I do have a stand alone gps, I was just hoping I'd be able to free up some pocket space with the phone - so far, it just shows a blank screen with a blue indicator and says it's accurate 'within 10 meters'. I was hoping I could find a app that provided maps and maybe help tune it a bit. Next time I'm on the network I'll play around with it and see what kind of readings it gives - even if the gps is low end, I'm still liking this phone so far... a whole lot better than the propel.
Thanks for the update, zelendel

One is a proximity sensor and one is a light sensor.
Thanks for the info, I got a couple gps test apps I'm going to mess around with in a while but, I found a new problem that is driving me crazy...
I bought a usb wifi adapter - Asus n13 (b/g/n), in the hopes of using my internet for data and my phone will not connect to wifi. Even driving around town to places that offer free open wifi, my phone will not connect. It finds the wifi hotspots, pulls up the ssid, says connecting, then gets to 'assigning ip' and freezes. On my pc wifi setup, it shows a new connection and 2 seconds later disconnect.
In the phone wifi settings, it keeps showing wifi -connecting....disconnected, back to scanning, connecting in an endless loop - but it never connects. It has the ssid remembered but I cannot delete it or reset it. WPS failed to connect from either end.
Sleep Policy is off
Use Static IP is off
This is a big issue for me since I'm on the cheap att data plan.. I've tried various settings on the pc side of things, all with the same results, I've browsed the internet and done a bit of troubleshooting (ie, different usb ports, different drivers, turning on/off services, etc etc) - I think the problem is on the phone since it does not access any wifi... maybe I missed a setting somewhere?
For now I'm going to dig through the user manual again...
OK, playing around with some of windows wireless settings I've hit a new roadblock... my phone says connecting... Obtaining IP address... Disconnecting... Scanning...
That is one small step closer I think, because it wasnt trying to get an ip address earlier, it was just connecting/disconnecting.
finally! I figured it out!!!
Just for future note.... You have to go into your windows network settings, highlight your broadband AND wifi together - select bridge... restart your pc wifi software and then connect your phone, it should start right up!

You say you do not want to root the phone. But try Launcher Pro anyways to access the LbsTestMode.
1. Sign up/in to the market.
2. Download and install Launcher Pro (it says Pro but there is a FREE version, so dont worry).
3. After install, go to home screen. Long press and choose "Shortcuts"
4. In menu, choose "Activities" (yellow icon).
5. Scroll down and expand the menu "LbsTestMode". Under this is a submenu. Choose the first "LbsTestMode" under this. Yes the main menu and submenu have same name.
6. Choose Ok or whatever, and the icon will be on your Home screen.
7. If you get this far, then you are good.
Open LbstestMode:
1. At the moment you probably should just leave Application Settings to default.
2. Under "Supl/CP settings". And change as follows:
Server: supl.google.com (no "www.")
Server Port: 7276
Secure Socket: OFF
AGPS Mode : SUPL
3. Return to previous menu.
4. DELETE GPS DATA just to clear all previous data.
5. Run "Get Position Test" on top of menu.....
Good Luck !!

Yeah, Google Maps requires a network connection.....BUT when you go into Navigation mode - via the Directions menu and turning on navigation, you get navigation. YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD VOICE SYNTHESIS from the market to get voice guidance. This a good first try, IF YOUR GPS WORKS !!
Or try NAVIGON for Android ....you can buy it but also check here www.mobilism.org (ahem..ahem). I use daily, and I think it is the best routing....
EDIT: Well...about google maps, I think you need a data connection jsut to open the damn software, so you will need Navigon, Igo primo or similar...I AM ASSUMING YOU WANT ROUTING DIRECTIONS and not hiking type positioning. Then take a look at this http://www.backcountrynavigator.com/content/android-gps-software AND here http://www.backcountrynavigator.com/
Thanks again for the updates, but it seems like either Samsung or ATT has locked out the Lbs Test mode feature, both of the codes have the same result - after entering the last character it clears it out. I did get LauncherPro and am really digging it so far, but even the lbs tests dont do anything, it goes to a blank screen and just sits there... I have the status bar at the top and a totally blank screen. I even set my phone down on a box out in the yard for 30+ minutes and nothing ever came up - using the google and stock settings for the test. I'm guessing if/when I root my phone the tests will work
I started using GPS Test from Chartcross Limited and GPS Status from EclipSim - both show that my gps is accurate between 16.4 and 32.8 feet - depending on which the way the wind is blowing. I've been browsing some of the other gps/map apps but for now I'll just carry around my standard gps when I need it.
Even with the gps issues, I'm really liking this phone alot. I havent really ran into any other problems yet

GPS Settings and Fixes

Due to a pretty high demand of people that have been PMing me about my GPS I would like to write up this short help guide that works for me and many other people that have tried these settings.
1. I would like to point everyone to this thread, the Solder fix did wonders on my phone and many others that have done it, it REALLY Does work and it REALLY does work well. If you know someone that can, or if you can solder yourself, DO IT, you will be very happy with the out come.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878970
I Take no credit for the above fix as it put together by a few people, it really helped many people to get their GPS working properly, the solder step only added to it.
2. This is a step by step guide to MY settings that work on any rom that does not have a broken GPS kernel and always has great results.
A. Head to the Market and download SGS Tools, or search XDA for it.
B. Tuen off your GPS and Wireless Networks
C. Open SGS tools and click on Secret Codes
D. Click on GPS- Test and Settings (LBSTestMode)
E. Click on Application Settings, Change Operation mode to MS BASED
F. Go back one menu and click on SULP/CP Settings and change server to supl.google.com Port number 7576
G. Go back to the main GPS test menu and click Delete GPS Data
H. Reboot
I. Once fully rebooted, turn on your GPS ONLY, do not check use wireless networks.
J. Go outside, REALLY GO OUTSIDE, dont be lazy if you want this to work, Start up maps, or Nav and give it 3-5 minutes, you should have strong lock.
K. If you STILL CANNOT Get a lock, proceed to the next steps...
L. Head to the Markget and down load GPS Status
M. Open the app, click options, click tools, hit manage A-GPS state and hit download.
N. Let the app sit, WHILE YOU ARE OUTSIDE, you should now see a lock within a few minutes or so...
Anytime there after if you cannot get a lock, open GPS Status and redownload the A-GPS State and it should see a lock everytime. These are the settings I have been using for months and they work flawlessly on any rom I have been onm, as long as the Kernel allows it. Give it a shot, even if you dont apply the solder fix (But I cant stress enough to give it a go, it sounds a lot scarier then it really is and it will do wonders for your phone. Feel free to PM if you have any other questions and I will do my best to help
I think solder fix is not required for GPS devices after Oct 2010.
Anyways, what's difference in results for MS BASED and MS ASSISTED ?

thats what i want to know too
THis is what Google/ Wiki turned up
Standalone - The handset has no connection to the network, and uses only the GPS satellite signals it can currently receive to try to establish a location.
MS Based - The handset is connected to the network, and uses the GPS signals and a location signal from the network.
MS Assisted - The handset is connected to the network, uses GPS signals and a location signal, then relays its 'fix' to the server. Which then uses the signal strength from the phone to the network towers to further plot the user's position. Users can still maintain voice communication in this scenario, but not 'Internet/Network service', (i.e. Web browser, IM, streaming TV etc.)
MS Assisted/Hybrid - Same as above, but network functionality remains. Normally only in areas with exceptional coverage.
Great work Sols and Wood!!
Just in case anyone was looking for SGS Tools because I am not seeing it in the market. There is an SGS Toolbox in there but that is slightly different that this one. Do yourself a favor if you use GPS. Use Sol's settings and it will drastically improve your locks. I tend to drive on some backward country roads that don't have names, but rather numbers and the GPS always gets me right to the front door of my destination.
If you download the apk, click the thanks button. This isn't in the market anymore, fyi.
Thanks Woodrube, your the man!
Thanks Woodrube for popping in this app

Thanks Woodrube for popping in this app, when I am at the market after I download my paid apps (87), it is hard to remember all of the free apps that I need to download as well.
I'll give this a try when I get home tonight. I can get GPS locks on Froyo, but on GB or ICS roms it takes a long time to connect, if at all. Sometimes I have to reboot the phone (not really practical) and it'll give me a lock instantly.
Shame sgstools fc's when trying to access secret codes part for GPS.
I also tried to access lbstestmode settings from the old dialer numbers options but doesn't work for ICS.
Shame.... Would love to take a look at this.

Same here, running ICZ.
SGStools doesn't work for ICS ROMs. Never had and probably never will. Need to use something like AngryGPS or the like.
any suggestions on getting this to work on ics?

I'll test that when I get home, I just want to test it because I want faster locks. Last night I was testing the gps on paranoid 2.5.0 with Devil kernel 1.7.5 I these are my results. Again I need to know if I do this will lock the sats faster. Thanks in advance for this info!

For me "GPS status" (market) helps in these situations (topogigi says the following in the FAQ of his thread, but it should work for you as well):
"If you want a quick fix, you have to sit down in an open space with a large slice of visible sky above you. You should have already installed on your phone a really valuable app called "GPS Status". You haven't got it? Fire up the Market, search it and install it: it's free for everyone. Then turn off wifi and turn on wireless data. Ephemeris data download and position data based on cell triangulation are available only with wireless data enabled and they are inhibited by a special setting in the gps configuration file when wifi is on. Tap the app icon, then look at the status bar: is there a small icon radar-shaped blinking on the status bar (upper part of the screen)?
CASE 1) Yes, I see it! It's blinking continuously!
CASE 2) No, nothing changed.
If your fall in CASE 2, there is really something wrong with GPS on your phone. You can try the following workaround, but if it doesn't work there's no remedy other than filing a bug alert in the thread and patiently wait until the bug will be solved.
WORKAROUND:
- Enter Hidden menu typing 1809#*990# on the phone pad
- Select "GPS Test"
- Go to "SULP Settings" and create a new SLP Server with the following parameters:
name: Nokia
slp address: supl.nokia.com
port: 7275
leave certification file and TLS settings as blank
- go back, and flag "SLP Auto provision" as enabled
- select your APN for SLP from "APN Settings"
- go back 2 times and select "Get position"
- select menu-> start
- at this point, you could notice that no satellite appear. Dont't worry, carry on....
- select menu-> Settings then change some parameters as "Session Type" and "Oper Mode"
- go back and select Stop and Start again
- repeat the last three steps until you get a fix and the gps icon in the status bar remains steady after the fix.
If you fall into CASE 1), look at the yellow bars indicating the number and the signal level of each satellite. When the bars will be more than 4 and the length of each bar will be enough to get a fix (the longer the bars, the stronger the signal), the bars will turn into green and you have got the first fix (how lucky you are, huh?). The time it will take is not fixed, though: it depends on weather, correct download of ephemeris data, radio interferences and so on. So, the bottom line is: BE PATIENT! There is no rule of thumb for measuring the time a fix will take. In some conditions, you will get it in a few seconds, in other conditions it will take minutes. Now that you've got a fix, try to move a little bit around. The radar-shaped icon should be steady now and the bars should remain green. If you see the icon disappearing after the fix, you are falling into CASE 2). Try the workaround mentioned before and if it fails, file a complaint into the thread.
DO NOT FILE A BUG ALERT ON GPS WITHOUT HAVING ALREADY TRIED ALL THE PROCEDURES LISTED ABOVE! It will be simply ignored."
Your device is rooted? Then you could try this with CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066933
Ive had this problem too, on Stock GB ROM.
what I did was installed the 2.1.6 MIUI ROM and edited the GPS settings from there.
The settings I copied was from a Nexus ONE MIUI ROM.
Now it works like a dream.
Thanks for the answers I'll try gps status

And no surprise I have got this issue to, since I updated the stock rom (oh joy, thank you so much LG). However, it would get a lock, then drop the lock (within seconds) then search again for a few minutes.. get a lock maybe.. then drop it within seconds.
Now today in the open air, I cannot get a lock.
So.. I downloaded "GPS Status & Toolbox" and because I cannot stand adverts.. I donated the small amount for the program patch to remove adverts ('GPS Status Donation').
I'm now just running this on my phone (but by a window.. to try and get a lock).
Hopefully I can get it working
Many thanks for the tip, I'll let you know either way #
EDIT: Well... it seems I may have been hasty, as I just turned off the wifi and I think that was stopping the GPS from working lol. But anyway.. is there a hack to get the wifi and GPS working together?
hi
I had the same problems as you, with GPS (and some other) issues - I have always been on stock Rom.
then I got fed up with this and decided to try Temasaks Cyanogenmod7 Kang ROM last week - and have not looked back since!
GPS is working within seconds, new cool lock screen, and everything is running much more fluently! Other problems I had are also gone.
battery time is equal or better, as stock!

Well... I don't know what I've done... some fiddling with the GPS options in the hidden menu, and now it is working flawlessly.
Also... I'm on the google supl, and not the nokia one... and it still works fine.
I have made some other changes anyway.. but regardless it basically just seem to take some fiddling with it to get it to work. I now get locks within about 5 to 10 secs even indoors (10 sats seen, 6-8 locked INDOORS!). Hopefully that won't change if I reset the phone.
My settings are:
GPS session type: 'Tracking' (not single fix)
Oper Mode: MS-Based (to help with initial lock, but then use GPS completely)
Horizontal Accuracy: 30 (Stock was 50.. I think this is in metres)
SLP Auto Provision: Enabled (I don't even know what this means!!? lol)
SLP Server Setting: OPEN(Google) (Although I added the nokia one as well)
Auto Cold Start: Disabled
UPDATE: You know what... I thought it was working... so I reset my device with GPS off. When it came on, I tested GPS, and it showed that it was working and see's the satellites. BUT.. in GPS Status Tool, I see that the GPS symbol dissappears, and the 'update' time does not update. So basically.. it's relying on the cell towers rather than the GPS towers. I turned the phone off with GPS enabled... turned on again, and now it's working correctly with GPS doing it's thang. AFter my experiences in being in an office with a terrible signal... I reckon that there is a setting in the code somewhere that doesn't allow the GPS to be used, or it's forcing it to only use tower's and wifi as a means of location, and ignoring the GPS. Very odd. But it works now, as everyone has seen, it's just a shame that what really is quite a fundamental feature of the phone, LG decided not to fix.
It works, thanks. It is wery cloudy but i got gps in 15sec

try this too,
turn on your GPS.
reboot your phone (with GPS ON)
try again. see if it can lock faster.

That's what I suggested in the update. It's obviously a flaw in the code (thanks LG) that you have to turn the phone on with the GPS enabled for it to work. Now major issue really to leave it enabled anyway, hardly takes any power when not in use, I just wish I knew why this was the case, that you have to have it enabled at power on time. Bizarre.
It's not about being able to 'get a lock', it's about it working at all. If you use GPS status, you will see that it can see satellites and attempt to get your position.. but I reckon what it thinks are sat's are actually the cell towers (When you haven't enabled GPS at boot time).
