Hi there
I've got my Galaxy Note and unfortunately it has developed a hardware fault and needs to go for repair. I want to reset it back to factory conditions, with the original TouchWIZ UI from Cyanogen Mod 9.
Can someone please guide me in the right direction? I'd assume I just need to locate a stock ROM, load that in and install it onto the phone and all will be back to normal, but I can't find a stock ROM online for Galaxy Note N7000.
Help would be appreciated!
Matt

Where can I get this firmware from?
Also, just in addition, the hardware problem is with the micro USB port so I'm hoping I can put the ROM into Dropbox and download it to the SD card of my phone (giving the same end results as transferring via USB).
You can get stock firmwares from sammobile.com pick one for your region. I would also flash from odin pereonnally t9 remove all traces of root etc regardless of fault.

If you have micro usb problem and you are not able to connect to PC then how you can flash with Odin?
Do this
Find first link on my note 1 signature
Go to post #2
Download GB ROM. You can directly download on device and extract it to sd card.
Install mobile odin (lite will also work because you don't need root after flashing rom)
Flash new rom using mobile odin.
And wipe cache and data after flashing (this step is dangerous on ics so I have asked you to flash gb rom)

Thanks for that
Two questions:
Could you give me the direct link for the Gingerbread rom for the unlocked N7000 in the UK? I can't quite understand the list!
Where do I get Odin lite from? I can only find the pro version in the market.
Cheers
You are unable to download from hotfile?
On play store mob odin pro Page you will find discussion link of xda, you will find lite version there
Remember you need to flash a flasher file manually (pro auto install) but not. A big thing
You will find it on first few post.

Thanks so much for that.
Now I've just got a query. I've downloaded the add on flash kernel and it's trying to open in ROM manager. Is this correct? Surely it should open in Mobile ODIN? Am I OK to let it install in ROM manager?
Matt
Rom manager?
No need to open that flasher
Install mobile odin just, if you have kernel flasher it shouldn't pop up to install it.

Just after flashing rom successfully, just reboot to recovery and wipe cache and data. You will get completely stock rom.
I am not visiting q/a section much frequently now, as I have moved to note2
PM me if any issue, but can reply in morning only coz here 2am so may not be available after few minutes.
Good luck
If everything okay, then put comment here

I've just PMed Dr Ketan about this, but just in case anyone else knows:
I've followed the instructions and the phone rebooted to the Samsung intro graphic, then went to the glowing Samsung logo.... The phone now keeps replaying the intro motion graphic, then back to Samsung logo, then back to intro graphic, then Samsung logo. I left it a good 10 minutes and thought something isn't right, so I've taken the battery out and put it back in. Then I saw the Galaxy Note logo, then the intro graphic, then the Samsung logo, and the whole process as before is repeating and repeating. I'm really not sure what to do here.... Any ideas?
Matt
Just in response to my previous message..... I misread the instructions and all is now working fine.
Hmm, you must forget to wipe cache and data. After this it should fine.

Hi
I am helping on behalf of my friend with his phone. He told me he had rooted and even flashed a custom rom which I assume when he told me he doesn't have touchwiz.
Now the problem is that when he hangs up a call the screen just goes completely black and needs to talk the battery out. Sometimes even he has problems booting up into android and gets some random script.
Now I would like to know if I could solve the problem if I flashed a custom rom via clock work mod? What other tools would I need?
Thanks

Try doing a factory reset!

I forgot to tell you in the original post that this was all triggered after doing a factory reset. Any ideas?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Yh just flash a compatible rom via recovery or Rom manager. Just make sure you read the thread first to see if there are any problems/bugs and what is required before hand. Best to do a complete wipe before flashing though.
Before flashing try to do another factory reset and see if that solves the problem. Along with that delete the cache and dalvik from recovery (3 button combo) and fix permissions. If after all that the same happens then flash the rom. If your not sure of what you are doing then find out before you do start. Just in case something else goes wrong.
I talked to my friend and he told me the phone isn't rooted. He's using android 2.3.2. Is there a guide to rooting for this device?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
There are loads of guides for rooting, look in general section most of them are pinned.
I suggest he reflashes the same rom that way there are minimal chances of any bugs but if he wants a custom rom then make sure you look for one that is very stable. Unless he wishes to learn how to flash and everything that comes with it. I warn it will become addictive.
For the stock roms go here and make an account. Then click on firmware. And follow the clicks... You can also find guides on there of how to do it. Basically how to navigate on the site, how to flash the roms on the site etc all on that site.
If you still want root and only root then search for cf root in android development. Chainfire has an extensive list of rooted kernals, the first post should explain everything, you may ave to read it twice
Edit: Link
Edit: I just understood what you meant by that PM... I suggest you/ your friend sticks to stock and use the first link. However if you really want a custom rom, start with this[ (link arrived...) It is a Darky Rom from their website. Really all you will need is the DarkyROM 10.2 RE Odin ROM and you will be rooted. From there you can flash anything. However the link i provided is to their latest rom i believe and is meant to be fairly stable.
May i remind you that once you flash you will have lost warranty and support from Samung etc. Until you flash stock firmware back on. Also when flashing be careful and know what you are doing, it is all at your own risk

Can you give me the name of the firmware you DL from samfirmware, and if possible the link..
BUT really all you need is a .pit file and asingle .tar file. There may be 3 .tar files (code, modem and csc). The instructions should give you the information of where to put each or the files should be clearly named..
Apparently there was only one tar file. I already flashed the stock rom yesterday and flashed cf root. I also instructed my friend how to flash custom roms. It is all good now. Thank you!

Are you able to reboot into.recovery? If yes then check you have stock recovery, if not try flashing stock kernel (it wont raise counter), and even on factoryfs stuck you may b able to.flash kernel.
And then send to service centre(if available different one)

what about theys traces left on my internal memory ?
As such they should not concern what you store on storage. But anyway if you want to remove it use aroma file manager, which works with recovery, use that cwm.zip to execute aroma (which is flashble zip)
Note: here i m advising cwm.zip b'oz device is bricked already n no other alternate available, n i have seen file on picture, no one should follow my advise to use cwm.zip, whose note is working. Otherwise it can brick device.

Nope, GT-S5570i needs firmware splitting. Cause only Odin V1.85 can detect this phone, and needs all package not one package.
I was updated my note with official JB 4.1.2 using odin pc and got pda from samfirmware.com
It has been 4 days since updated and now my note get laggy-performance (gsming, tasking, graphics) and drain battery fast. Bad graphic while play a game and 'unexpected error is occured' pop-up shown are make me mad, regret with this jb update.
I had asked this before and get some advices, such as get kernel (a lot of it kinds), custom rom, etc. I dont even know about that at all. it just make me more confused. So, please tell me about some stuff around this problem and kernel-rom-etc.
Thanks a lot for your coming to notice and help me any futher.

Stock firmware is the original samsung firmwares not edited not rooted not tweaked nothing
ROM could be many thing TW is like samsung based firmware but has a few extra touches like rooting some tweaks and apps that requires root stuff like that
And another kind is on CyanogenMod this sort of roms offers speed more smoothnes and lot better performance than touchwiz but still with it you cant use s-pen features like on the stock and some other bugs
And there are AOKP they are similiar in looks like CyanogenMod but with a really masive customizations available in there

you can try wiping /system /preload /data /cache /dalvik cache and flash the stock rom again or you can try custom roms of your choice after reading from here. (dont ask which is the best, just read reviews, watch youtube videos and decide for yourself)

Look, you're having problems with the stock ROM, after the update. Now u have some choices,
1)Going back to ICS using sammobile and ODIN.
2)Flashing the PhilZ kernel using the link given by treacherous_hawk and then doing those wipes and again install JB using ODIN, like you did earlier. yes it'll wipe all the data so better back up the phone on PC before doing the wipes.
3) Use custom ROMs. You can read about the custom ROMs in the Android development forum, there are methods to root with the CWM recovery and then how to install custom ROMs.

you got the yellow exclamation mark because you used the .tar file for philz kernel. if you use the .zip file and flash it from stock recovery you automatically get root and no yellow triangle. You can remove the yellow triangle using the "triangle away" app from play store( paid version, if you consider donating) or search for free version on XDA. use that to get rid of yellow triangle.
That is the yellow triangle you've got. Don't worry mate. It's just a symbol, if u wanna get rid of it, go to the Android development forum here and there will be a thread for how to remove yellow triangle, read that. The sign is nothing to be worried about. Now you have rooted, you can flash the various custom ROMs and be extremely carefull to follow the instructions in the ROM thread before you flash.
Hmm okay guys.
So um, what should i have to do first? Wiping data and then install new stock rom or reinstall kernel firstly or what?

if you are not on safe kernel, you should install safe kernel first like philz (which i guess you already did) boot into recovery mode and do all the wipes (if you do not want to save any data). put the phone in download mode connect to computer, open pc odin, click pda select the stock rom from save location and click start. Once finished put the philz kernel on ext sd card (the one corresponding to your stock rom) and go to stock recovery and install zip from ext card and select the philz kernel .zip file and you should be good to go.

Thank you,
C

Use the guide from here by nirogu325 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137
It has all that you need. And when in recovery, it's not necessarily 'apply update from SD card'. Just choose the zip file that you have to flash to gain root. I suggest that you use TWRP recovery on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602188
Thanks for your help, I will try the instructions although they look a bit complicated for a near novice like me. My problem with the zip file is that when I am in recovery mode I cannot select any path leading to the SD Card root folder where the zip has been uploaded. It drives me nuts, it seems to work for everyone else but me!

The original gingerbread recovery had an option to flash zips. The ICS recovery did not. Rooting was way easier on GB because of this. The only way to root ICS is to install a custom recovery to flash a root.zip file.
Make sense, something to keep me busy next weekend...

Didn't know that. Never touched the original firmware that came with my tab. It was only when I upgraded to ICS via odin that I started tinkering with it.

Instructions from the guide are relatively easy to follow. Just read the whole lot. I think it would be better if you upgrade to ICS first if your still in Honeycomb.

Right, honeycomb, not gingerbread. I got my sweets mixed up. I don't think this tab ever had GB.

I am on ICS, I think this is why I cannot simply use the zip file with the standard recovery options. Will try the instructions and report.
Thanks all,

You need to install a custom recovery with odin. Then you flash the zip file in the custom recovery.

Yes, the guide tells you that you need to flash custom recovery before you could flash any zip file.

Ok, I think I need some help. I cannot flash zip drives from the standard ICS recovery as I do not get the option of accessing the SD card (see photo attached) so I can't either root or flash CWMR zip. As suggested I have tried Odin but there are no instructions on how to flash a CWMR zip in the tread, only how to flash ROMs. I have tried to search with the PDA or BOOTLOADER buttons but I cannot load a zip file in Odin. I am really not sure what to do now?
can you help?
Thanks very much,
C
You need to flash a .tar.md5 file in Odin. See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602188

CyanogenMod instaled and unusable, I have installed GoogleApps separately but they do not show up anywhere. The browser does not work so I cannot try to access gooleplay. The PC does not recognise the tablet any more and I cannot transfer files. Well done me!
I suppose I could go back installing a stock ROM with Odiin, the problem is that the only post I have found with stock ROMs has links to Hotfiles.com which is no longer in service. Can anyone direct me to any other link where I could download a stock ROM for P7310?
Thank you.

Done! Not without drama... At first the system would not reboot, had to flash custom recovery, wipe everything and flash the ROM again and then it restarted. Not sure I am going to mess up with my tab again! Stuck to ICS forever it seems...

Well yeah I didn't mention that you should do a full wipe first because I thought you already knew that
anyway, hopefully messing up with your tab won't be necessary, cuz stock ICS is the best, personally I use this tweaked one:
[ROM][ICS][STOCK][P7300/P7310][LQJ/LPV][Deodexed/Odexed] Final Build [14/1/14]
It is the best!!!:victory:
Cheers, what are the differences with the tweaked ROM you have?

Agree, I've tried the 10.1.3 and 10.2 CM versions before. But IMHO, overall performance is not on par with stock ICS.

It's a matter of preference, actually. In my case, I used the original firmware on the thread and tweaked it to my liking.
