Hi,
I have a SGN and CM10 nightly, and updating daily.
The only bad thing for me in this JB based ROM is the heat and the battery drain (almost can see the energy flying away the battery )
As I have been reading a little bit, I think, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the KERNEL can change some equipment behavior...
Question:
Do I have to stay with the kernel of the nightlys?
If not, what options do I have, and what are the main differences between them?
If I change it, do I have to re-flash it every time I update to the new nightly?
According to your help... I'LL BE BACK!!!!
Thanks a lot

The new cm10 kernel uses updated Mali display drivers. Currently there are no alternative kernels with these drivers so you're stuck with the stock one.

I guess you have a rogue app misbehaving. I can clearly remember when I had this problem as well: battery drain and heat.
You might install the following 2 apps, to see whether your device enters deep sleep, if you already haven't.
- better battery stats (1.11)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15869868 and
- CPUSpy (0.5.19 beta)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28045183
Then, after you checked "deep sleep or not?", you could go to this thread concerning wake locks&battery life, a very informative thread by ahalford - and he is being very helpful!

Uf, you should consider then some other OS. Not sure what we can run on the galaxy though. Search the forums. (maybe ubuntu?)
I know you mean the process . But this is seriously funny .
There was a thread in which this process jumped up when using screen filter. Check that out.
You are using an unreleased version of Android which I don't think has even been included with phones yet and you shouldn't expect it to work well.. It should come as no surprise that the battery drops like a brick. There are probably many other bugs too. It doesn't mean the official copy is buggy, and it doesn't mean the final version of Samsung's copy will be either. It's like stealing a bike which is only half assembled off an assembly line and complaining the seat is wobbly.

Come on Auzy . That has nothing todo with "unreleased" besides http://goo.gl/FnGjR
This is the thread I meant http://goo.gl/AP6z3
I got 58 hours standby(2:20 Hours of display, all network on) that ROM is so far BEST for battery LIFE.
An a side note to you. Please check how many bug reports you got on eclair, froyo and now gingebread and then state those "facts" about unofficial, unreleased and many bugs.
What happens when i deleat the Screen filter app?
And how can i deleat it?

I had the same problem as yours. On my first install, Android OS eats up most of the battery that my phone could not last for a day in a single charge.
But when I installed CF-root kernel, that issue was gone and Android OS is back to normal.
I suggest you try to flash the original kernel only using odin and see if it works. If not then try to install CF-root kernel.

Okay than the problem comes From another reasen :-(
In order to fix your battery life, there are a few things you can do to improve it:
1. Recalibrate your battery:
- Charge it till it is full;
- Completely drain it, till your phone won't turn on again;
- Completely charge it;
- Go into CWM -> advanced -> Remove battery stats
And done!
2. Make sure WiFi and GPS are turned off when you're not using them!
3. Download SetCPU. Enable profiles and set following profiles:
- Charging: min 1000, max 1000
- Screen Off: min 100, max 200
- Normal: min 100, max 1000
4. Download Voltage Control and set 100 MHz to -150 mV.
Your battery life should improve now! This fixed my battery problems on Froyo 2.2.1 atleast
Without reading wha the guy adviced up. My Android OS process spiked up too. And it got so far that it froze the phone . Had to take the battery out.
It seems it was done either by a game (Cordy) or SetCpu I ran it but not allowed it in SU. Android OS and the Events ate it

had the same problem. seems to be a wifi issue, even when wifi is off. i think i fixed it by setting the wifi-sleep-policy from "never" to "sleep when screen off". don't know why but it helped me. didn't even lose 1% in the last hour and Android OS went from 82% to 71%.
Okay thank you i try it, but i have this problem also if wifi is not on.

i know i did too. but by changing the policy the problem disapeared. dosn't matter if it's on or not.
Ad-hoc needs a lot of power, always at 80 mA, this is Wifi very weak.
Can I use wifi from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3?
Hi i have read to fix the problem do this:
System settings - applications - Applications - (rider) ALL software update - "delete data"option.
I really look through any more.
My battery is now 2 days was okay and now it starts again at the the Android OS will look into the level I like the battery is eer.
The only thing I've done is I've added in the preferences WhatsApp account so that my contacts will automatically update itself.
But I looked to the APP watchdog and think nothing which time the battery.
It says only Android system and mmmcps?
use ti backup to made a back up of "software update" and samsung account 1.0" then freeze or force delete them. never had the bug since

Hello all-
I wanted to start a thread to discuss battery performance across the various ROMs available:
1. Nookie Froyo (including NookieComb based on Froyo)
2. CM7 (Latest build)
3. Rooted stock
1. What ROM do you guys use and how is the battery performance?
2. How do you maximize battery performance? Kindly list the settings if you can.
Thanks,
mg

Phiremod is completely based on CM7,it's just a themed version. So I actually doubt there's any difference.
I have a question too. Has anyone tryed battery calibration? I'm not sure this app supports tablets though.

I never tried it but that would make only your battery readings more accurate. IN CWM its also possible to recalibrate i heard. Never tried it though.
Most ROMs have allready been tweaked pretty much. I'm on Nookie Comb (2.2) however just because there is still a bug in gingerbread (w/ or w/o CM7) preventing 'deep sleep'. So the device is still active when you press the power button. That cost me about an 2% and hour equals 48% in a whole day. (just idling). They (devs) are looking into it ATM.
Honeycomb preview also has the deep sleep bug.

In the past, I've just cleared the Battery Stats in CWM when flashing CM7. Be sure your battery is fully charged for the most accurate readings.
Ah, that's why CM7 drains battery. Did not know about that bug. Hope they fix it soon.
I did an over night battery test with only the released CM7 on the SD card and it was draining about 0.8% per hour using the built in battery meter. I don't know how accurate a test this is but the result was better than the 2% drain that I saw posted else where.
Hey All,
My Milestone running MIUI 1.6.4 doesnt go to sleep when I turn the screen off. This is leading to poor dormant battery life. The battery drops by about 10 percent for every 1 hr, when the phone is not in use(ironic, cos when the device is actively used, MIUI seems to have the best battery life). I checked the built in battery usage chart, and the thread that keeps the device awake is Android System itself. Is this a known issue? and are there any solutions available?
Had same problem!
Had exactly same problem a couple of months back and posted question here but no response.
I was able to initiate deep sleep but had to do various things such as reboot time after time until successful, open up a variety of apps, use a task killer, etc., to try and resolve problem.
I was using CM 6.0 initially and even updated to the latest update of that build by wiping everything but all to no avail. I was beginning to think that it was a hardware problem when I flashed an entirely different rom - MIUI 1.2.25 and hey presto problem resolved.
I suggest that you may have to do likewise and try another rom entirely. BTW the battery life of 1.2.25 is very good indeed. I also recommend using CPU Spy found in the market and/or CPU Stats found in the Themes/Apps section of this forum to monitor deep sleep status.
Hope this helps

Hello everyone!
I've installed few days ago the onecosmic's ROM RC3.1, beatiful, perfect, smooth bla bla.
The problem is: i'm seeing so many post of people saying that with full charge, phone can stay alive for an average of 1 day- 1 day and an half (24-36h) with a normal use.
My phone can last 13-14h staying most of the time in standby and it's the 5th cycle so should be "stabilized" now. 1st cycle was awful, 8h (didn't expect anything else), then things got better but i've reached this cap of 14h.
I've tried Fugu kernel at first but i didn't get much improvement so i switched to paul kernel and changed modem too (jvk->jvt).
Still can't reach the dreamed 24-36h, i mean, i don't care about having 2 days of battery life, i would like to use the phone without having to charge it in the middle of the day.
btw nstools installed and set Deep Idle on, which seems to works just fine for me with the paul kernel.
(can't post outside link -.-)
nstools stats:
h*tp://i44.tinypic.com/6duvzb.png
does these stats means it's working?
i'll post also CPUspy stats:
h*tp://i43.tinypic.com/35052qf.png
is it everything ok here?
On standby there's no battery drain effect now, but when i'm using it, i get 1% down every 1-2 min.
What do you guys suggest? do i need to try other kernels/modems? shoud i try to flash again?
p.s. on 2.3.5 stock i used to have 24-36h but there's no way i'm going back to GB, i love ICS.
I used to have 24h of battery life, but I don't know what happened, after a week or so now my phone is draining 20% every hour, dead by noon...
Tried NStools with undervolt, and it didn't change anything.
It's now an useless piece of junk... this is retarded, either i will try reinstalling ICS or im going back to GB.

maybe your problem is caused by an app, or more than one, which are using push notification, you sould try uninstalling some...
Tried undervolt too, i got maybe an hour more.
Update: i just flashed again with RC3,1 and paul kernel. Situation seems a little better, gonna update again after few battery cycles.
What thing is in the battery status menu?
If it is media server: settings-->apps-->all--> Mediastorage-->force stop(dont wipe data)

sure! with the new paul kernel the battery life is better! amd now i'm trying the last glitch...my phone seems to work better...!i will hope to have also a good battery life without hard drain (with didle support maybe it's possible!)
actually, there was a lot of "Android OS" usage, maybe something went wrong from the beginning, the phone wasn't going to deep sleep state when put on stan-by and use more cpu than necessary when active, that must have been the main issue.
As i said, installed RC3.1 again this morning now everything is gooood
Lots of facebook, whatsapp, camera and 1 call, still have 67%. When put on standby battery almost doens't drop at all (checked on battery graph).
I think it's solved
I've the same problem. my battery life sucks...
Now my question. Where can I find/download the paul kernel? I#ll re-flash it too .
And my second question, do the "devil - der teufel" kernel do a great job too?

dunno about devil kernel, i read that for someone is even better than paul and it solves also "green screen" issue that appear when you lock the phone. I'm happy with this config so i won't touch it until RC4
I confirm that ,now, when my phone is in stand-by, battery usage is almost 0.
btw paul's kernel can be found here:

(sorry about the "*" in the url but it won't let me post link 'til i get 10 post -.-)
is also in the first post of the Team ICSSGS rom btw
I have flashed RC3.1 yesterday, it lasted for 8 hours. I was using it heavily to check all the features, syncing the contacts etc. I have drained the battery fully now. Will charge it upto 100% and see how long it last now with normal usage.

Battery Drain
hello everyone - I have been searching a lot abou this i9000 battery drain on ICS. I am using ICS and Devil karnel and battery lasts for around 11-12hrs. My usage is pretty normal. I dont use phone for most of the time but still it reaches to 12hrs mark. If I check battery stats then Android OS and Display (brightness is very low) are consuming most of the battery.
Please let me know if there are any ROM Tweeks or any other way to increase battery time. Or I will have to go back to GB because I hate charing battery two times a day.
Thank you.

That actually depends on your usage. Since you are on stock, your battery should be awesome, but weird that it isn't (especially when you said that it is unrooted).
it could be that your battery has finally reached its state of dying. The way to confirm this is to try another ROM, but that is your decision
To answer to your question, it may make the issue go away.

For the sake of troubleshooting, would you like to root your ROM?
If you do, install Towelroot app on your stock (I am assuming 4.3 Jellybean) and root your device. Afterwards head to SuperSU on Google Play and install it. And proceed to updating the su binary to the latest one.
After your root setup is complete, reboot and install Wakelock Detector. Give it a root access and a refresh for the first time.
Allow your Xperia SP to drain its battery like how you would normally use it. After hours, please screenshot the content of the app and upload it here so I can inspect it
if i use my phone with something like wi-fi ,whatsapp .....etc (not heavy apps) how much time my battery must hold it?
thanks.

You might wanna give more details like what apps you got installed, your usage, your brightness level etc. Also wifi, whatsapp does drain battery. How much screen time were you getting before with the same config? How bad's the drain when the screen off? Like someone mentioned above, you could root your phone and try Wakelock Detector to see if something's constantly preventing your phone from going into deep sleep.
Also your battery could be a dud but like you mentioned you haven't had your phone for long so that probably shouldn't the issue but you might want to make sure of that before switching roms. No point rooting/unlocking your phone and flashing a new rom only to find out that the issue still persists but if you wanna try a LP rom nevertheless, you could always give it a shot.
Much like yourself, I am suffering from rather poor battery life myself but my issue is most likely a dying battery. I am telling you this cause I have tried about a dozen roms and it makes zero difference so changing roms isn't a surefire solution. I use Greenify, PowerNap, keep the brightness rather low plus use a bunch of other battery tweaks but it hardly matters. My battery drains rather quickly either way (screen on or off). Even when my phone's in deep sleep, I still get bad drain so check thoroughly before you make the switch.
Did you check which app or feature is draining more the battery?
Sometimes, doing a factory reset will solve the problem. Have you tried it? Make a backup first.
